In 4-dimensional General Relativity, there are several theorems restricting the topology of the event horizon of a black hole. In the stationary case, black holes must have a spherical horizon, while a toroidal spatial topology is allowed only for a short time. In this Letter, we consider spinning black holes inspired by Loop Quantum Gravity and by alternative theories of gravity. We show that the spatial topology of the event horizon of these objects changes when the spin parameter exceeds a critical value and we argue that the phenomenon may be quite common for non-Kerr black holes. Such a possibility may be relevant in astrophysics, as in some models the accretion process can induce the topology transition of the horizon.  相似文献

We show that an extremal Kerr black hole, appropriately lifted to M theory, can be transformed to a Kaluza-Klein black hole in M theory, or a D0-D6 charged black hole in string theory. Since all the microstates of the latter have recently been identified, one can exactly reproduce the entropy of an extremal Kerr black hole. We also show that the topology of the event horizon is not well defined in M theory.  相似文献

We consider nonuniform black strings inside their event horizon. We present numerical evidence, that the singularity touches the horizon as the horizon topology changing transition is reached.  相似文献

Static vacuum spacetimes with one compact dimension include black holes with localized horizons but also uniform and nonuniform black strings where the horizon wraps over the compact dimension. We present new numerical solutions for these localized black holes in 5 and 6 dimensions. Combined with previous 6D nonuniform string results, these provide evidence that the black hole and nonuniform string branches join at a topology changing solution.  相似文献

The Cauchy problem is considered for the scalar wave equation in the Kerr geometry. We prove that by choosing a suitable wave packet as initial data, one can extract energy from the black hole, thereby putting supperradiance, the wave analogue of the Penrose process, into a rigorous mathematical framework. We quantify the maximal energy gain. We also compute the infinitesimal change of mass and angular momentum of the black hole, in agreement with Christodoulou’s result for the Penrose process. The main mathematical tool is our previously derived integral representation of the wave propagator. Research supported in part by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. We explore time-symmetric hypersurfaces containing apparent horizons of black objects in a 5D spacetime with one coordinate compactified on a circle. We find a phase transition within the family of such hypersurfaces: the horizon has different topology for different parameters. The topology varies from S3 to S2 x S1. This phase transition is discontinuous--the topology of the horizon changes abruptly. We explore the behavior around the critical point and present a possible phase diagram.  相似文献

We generalize the Kodaira Embedding Theorem and Chow's Theorem to the context of families of complex supermanifolds. By using the path integral method of Gibbons and Hawking, the entropy of the Kerr-de Sitter black hole is investigated under the microcanonical ensemble. We find that the entropy is one eighth the sum of the products of the Euler number of its cosmological horizon and event horizon with their respective areas. It is shown that the origin of the entropy of the black hole is related to the topology of its instanton.  相似文献

A new supersymmetric black hole solution of five-dimensional supergravity is presented. It has an event horizon of topology S1 x S2. This is the first example of a supersymmetric, asymptotically flat black hole of nonspherical topology. The solution is uniquely specified by its electric charge and two independent angular momenta. These conserved charges can be arbitrarily close, but not exactly equal, to those of a supersymmetric black hole of spherical topology.  相似文献

We investigate the influence of the first-order correction of entropy caused by thermal quantum fluctuations on the thermodynamics of a logarithmic corrected charged black hole in massive gravity. For this black hole, we explore the thermodynamic quantities, such as entropy, Helmholtz free energy, internal energy, enthalpy, Gibbs free energy and specific heat. We discuss the influence of the topology of the event horizon, dimensions and nonlinearity parameter on the local and global stability of the black hole. As a result, it is found that the holographic dual parameter vanishes. This means that the thermal corrections have no significant role to disturb the holographic duality of the logarithmic charged black hole in massive gravity, although the thermal corrections have a substantial impact on the thermodynamic quantities in the high-energy limit and the stability conditions of black holes.  相似文献

We examine background solutions of black hole type arising from the string effective action in five dimensions. We derive the unique metric — dilaton vacuum which is a Schwarzschild type black hole. It is found that it can be extended to incorporate electric charge without changing the topology of the three space. Kalb–Ramond charge may also be introduced if the three space is closed. The basic features of the cosmology induced on a three brane evolving in this background are also discussed.  相似文献

We construct a time-symmetric asymptotically flat initial data set to the Einstein-Maxwell Equations which satisfieswhere m is the total mass, is the area radius of the outermost horizon and Q is the total charge. This yields a counter-example to a natural extension of the Penrose Inequality for charged black holes. The research of the first author was supported in part by NSF Grant DMS-0205545.The research of the second author was supported in part by NSF Grant DMS-0222387.  相似文献

The “complexity = action” duality states that the quantum complexity is equal to the action of the stationary AdS black hole within the Wheeler–DeWitt patch at late time approximation. We compute the action growth rates of the neutral and charged black holes in massive gravity and the neutral, charged and Kerr–Newman black holes in f(R) gravity to test this conjecture. Besides, we investigate the effects of the massive graviton terms, higher derivative terms and the topology of the black hole horizon on the complexity growth rate.  相似文献

In the standard formalism of quantum gravity, black holes appear to form statistical distributions of quantum states. Now, however, we can present a theory that yields pure quantum states. It shows how particles entering a black hole can generate firewalls, which however can be removed, replacing them by the ‘footprints’ they produce in the out-going particles. This procedure can preserve the quantum information stored inside and around the black hole. We then focus on a subtle but unavoidable modification of the topology of the Schwarzschild metric: antipodal identification of points on the horizon. If it is true that vacuum fluctuations include virtual black holes, then the structure of space-time is radically different from what is usually thought.  相似文献

Recently, two of us have argued that non-Kerr black holes in gravity theories different from General Relativity may have a topologically non-trivial event horizon. More precisely, the spatial topology of the horizon of non-rotating and slow-rotating objects would be a 2-sphere, like in Kerr space–time, while it would change above a critical value of the spin parameter. When the topology of the horizon changes, the black hole central singularity shows up. The accretion process from a thin disk can potentially overspin these black holes and induce the topology transition, violating the Weak Cosmic Censorship Conjecture. If the astrophysical black hole candidates are not the black holes predicted by General Relativity, we might have the quite unique opportunity to see their central region, where classical physics breaks down and quantum gravity effects should appear. Even if the quantum gravity region turned out to be extremely small, at the level of the Planck scale, the size of its apparent image would be finite and potentially observable with future facilities.  相似文献

Using the thin film brick-wall model, the entropies of a toroidal black hole due to scalar and Dirac fields are investigated. The entropy due to the scalar field is one fourth of the horizon area, and that due to the Dirac field is seven eighth of the area. These results are similar to that in black holes with horizon topology S 2. The cutoff in toroidal black hole is chosen as the same as one in black holes with horizon topology S 2, which seems to mean that the thin film brick-wall model is universal.  相似文献
