The two protons emitted in the decay of 54Zn have been individually observed for the first time in a time projection chamber. The total decay energy and the half-life measured in this work agree with the results obtained in a previous experiment. Angular and energy correlations between the two protons are determined and compared to theoretical distributions of a three-body model. Within the shell model framework, the relative decay probabilities show a strong contribution of the p2 configuration for the two-proton emission. After 45Fe, the present result on 54Zn constitutes only the second case of a direct observation of the ground state two-proton decay of a long-lived isotope.  相似文献

In an experiment at the SISSI-LISE3 facility of GANIL, the decay of the proton drip line nucleus 45Fe has been studied. Fragment-implantation events have been correlated with radioactive decay events in a 16x16 pixel silicon-strip detector. The decay-energy spectrum of 45Fe implants shows a distinct peak at (1.14+/-0.04) MeV with a half-life of T(1/2)=(4.7(+3.4)(-1.4)) ms. None of the events in this peak is in coincidence with beta particles. For a longer correlation interval, daughter decays of the two-proton daughter 43Cr can be observed after 45Fe implantation. The decay energy for 45Fe agrees nicely with several theoretical predictions for two-proton radioactivity.  相似文献

Decays of five 45Fe atoms have been observed at the fragment separator of GSI. Whereas one event is consistent with the β-decay of 45Fe accompanied by the emission of a 10 MeV proton, four decays are consistent with the emission of particle(s) of total energy 1.1±0.1 MeV. This observation represents the first evidence for two-proton ground-state radioactivity, a decay mode predicted for 45Fe. The time distribution of the observed decay events corresponds to a half-life of 3.2+2.6 -1.0 ms. Received: 17 May 2002 / Accepted: 28 May 2002  相似文献

In an experiment at the SISSI/LISE3 facility of GANIL, the most proton-rich zinc isotopes 55,56Zn have been observed for the first time. The experiment was performed using a high-intensity 58Ni beam at 74.5 MeV/nucleon impinging on a nickel target. The identification of 55,56Zn opens the way to 54Zn, a good candidate for two-proton radioactivity according to theoretical predictions. 23Si isotopes have been produced as projectile fragments of a 36Ar primary beam at 95 MeV/nucleon at the LISE3 spectrometer of GANIL. After implantation in a detector telescope, β-delayed one-proton and β-delayed two-proton emission has been observed. The main one-proton peaks are at (1.32±0.04)MeV, (2.40±0.04)MeV, and (2.83±0.06)MeV. The total decay energy for the β2p decay is (6.18±0.10)MeV for the decay to the ground state and (5.86±0.10)MeV for the decay to the first excited state in the daughter nucleus. However, energetically possible decays via βpα and β3p emission have not been identified. The spectra allowed us to determine the excitation energy of the isobaric analogue state in 23Al. This enabled us to calculate the coefficients of the T = 5/2 isobaric multiplet mass equation for A = 23. The mass excess of the 23Si ground state was deduced. This value is compared to different theoretical predictions. Additionally, we determined the branching ratios for the different decay branches. A half-life measurement yielded T1/2 = (40.7±0.4)ms.  相似文献

Two-proton radioactivity, a spontaneous breakup of elements with emission of two protons, was predicted to exist near the proton drip line by V.I. Goldansky long time ago. The recent theoretical and experimental progress in a search for such an exotic nuclear decay is reviewed. In theory, the new three-body model which treats two-proton radioactivity as a genuine three-particle nuclear decay is considered. In experiment, the first evidence for two-proton decay of 45Fe is described. Four atoms of 45Fe, produced at the fragment separator of GSI, decayed via particle emission with a total energy of 1.1(1) MeV and a half-life of 3.2 ?1.0 +2.6 ms. A possible experiment for a direct observation of two-proton emission from the ground state of 19Mg is considered for its decay in-flight. The half-life of 19Mg, as well as proton-proton correlations, might be derived from the distribution of the 19Mg decay vertices extrapolated from the measured trajectories of all fragments.  相似文献

Yrast levels of 60Ni were investigated via the study of in-beam γ-rays induced by 15–25 MeV α-partictes on 58Ni, 26–48 MeV 12C ions on 50Cr and 30–60 MeV 16O ions on 46Ti. The compound nucleus formed by these target-projectile combinations is 62Zn, and its decay by two-proton emission populates yrast levels of 60Ni. The ordering and decay modes of the yrast levels were determined from the analyses of in-beam γ-ray angular distribution and γ-γ coincidence measurements. The new levels established are at 4.262, 5.345 and 6.807 MeV. These together with the known 21+ (1.332 MeV) and 41+(2.505 MeV) levels constitute the yrast cascade. The spin assignments based on the present study are 6, 7, 9 for the 4.262, 5.345 and 6.807 MeV levels, respectively. The excitation functions for the yrast γ-rays from the 50Cr(12C, 2p)60Ni reaction show peaks near 33 MeV incident energy.  相似文献

The decay of the ground-state two-proton emitter 45Fe was studied with a time-projection chamber and the emission of two protons was unambiguously identified. The total decay energy and the half-life measured in this work agree with the results from previous experiments. The present result constitutes the first direct observation of the individual protons in the two-proton decay of a long-lived ground-state emitter. In parallel, we identified for the first time directly two-proton emission from 43Cr, a known beta-delayed two-proton emitter. The technique developed in the present work opens the way to a detailed study of the mechanism of ground state as well as beta-delayed two-proton radioactivity.  相似文献

We have observed the two-proton radioactivity of the previously unknown (19)Mg ground state by tracking the decay products in-flight. For the first time, the trajectories of the 2p-decay products, (17)Ne+p+p, have been measured by using tracking microstrip detectors which allowed us to reconstruct the 2p-decay vertices and fragment correlations. The half-life of (19)Mg deduced from the measured vertex distribution is 4.0(15) ps in the system of (19)Mg. The Q value of the 2p decay of the (19)Mg ground state inferred from the measured p-p-(17)Ne correlations is 0.75(5) MeV.  相似文献

The Efimov(Thomas) trimers in excited ~(12) C nuclei, for which no observation exists yet, are discussed by means of analyzing the experimental data of ~(70(64))Zn(~(64) Ni) + ~(70(64))Zn(~(64) Ni) reactions at the beam energy of E/A = 35 MeV/nucleon. In heavy ion collisions, a-particles interact with each other and can form complex systems such as ~8 Be and ~(12) C. For the 3 a-particle systems,multi-resonance processes give rise to excited levels of ~(12) C. The interaction between any two of the 3 a-particles provides events with one, two or three ~8 Be. Their interfering levels are clearly seen in the minimum relative energy distributions. Events with the three a-particle relative energies consistent with the ground state of ~8 Be are observed with the decrease of the instrumental error for the reconstructed 7.458 MeV excitation level in ~(12) C, which was suggested as the Efimov(Thomas) state.  相似文献

The beta-delayed two-proton decay of theT z =–5/2 nuclide39Ti has been observed. The39Sc isobaric analog state has been calculated to lie at 8.82 MeV using the measured two-proton sum energy of 4750±40 keV for its decay to the37K ground state. Combining this excitation energy with a Coulomb displacement energy calculation has lowered the energy available for ground state two-proton emission of39Ti from 760 to 530 keV.This work was supported by Director, Office of Energy Research, Division of Nuclear Physics of the Office of High Energy and Nuclear Physics of the U.S. Depeartment of Energy under Contracts DE-AC03-76SF00098 with Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, DE-AC02-76CH00016 with Brookhaven National Laboratory and DE-AC06-76RL0 1830 with Pacific Northwest Laboratories.  相似文献

The decay of extremely neutron-deficient 45Fe has been studied in detail by means of a novel type of a gaseous detector employing digital imaging to record tracks of charged particles. The two-proton radioactivity channel was clearly identified. For the first time, the angular and energy correlations between two protons emitted from the nuclear ground state were determined, indicating the genuine three-body character of this decay. The half-life of 45Fe was found to be 2.6+/-0.2 ms and the observed 2p decay branching ratio is 70+/-4%.  相似文献

Radioactive ion beams of 17F were used to study several resonance states in 18Ne. Clear evidence for simultaneous two-proton emission from the 6.15 MeV state (Jpi = 1(-)) in 18Ne has been observed with the reaction 17F+1H. Because of limited angular coverage, the data did not differentiate between the two possible mechanisms of simultaneous decay, diproton (2He) emission or direct three-body decay. The two-proton partial width was found to be 21+/-3 eV assuming 2He emission and 57+/-6 eV assuming three-body decay. The total width of the 1(-) state was measured to be 50+/-5 keV. Several additional resonances that decay by single proton emission were also studied.  相似文献

The two-proton radioactivity of 45Fe was studied experimentally with a time projection chamber. The aim of the experiment was the reconstruction of the proton tracks in three dimensions. Energy and angular correlations have been determined and the data are compared with theoretical models, in particular with a three-body model. Moreover, the decay of 43Cr was studied and ??-delayed one-, two- and three-proton emission could be established. The correlations observed for ??-delayed two-proton emission favour a sequential emission. Finally, ??-delayed two-proton emission was observed for the first time for 51Ni.  相似文献

By irradiating a natW target with 9 MeV/u 76Ge ions, neutron-rich isotopes in the chromiumgermanium region were produced. On-line mass-separated samples were investigated. The new isotopes 62Mn, 71Cu, 72Cu and 73Cu were identified and their half-lives measured to be 0.88(15), 19.5(16), 6.6(1) and 3.9(3) s, respectively. The half-life of 63Fe, a nucleus which has previously been detected using particle-identification techniques, was measured to be 4.9(5) s. Decay schemes were derived in most cases. Additional spectroscopic information was obtained on the decays of 73Zn and 74Zn. We give evidence that the earlier reported γ-ray activity attributed to 67Ni belongs to the decay of the 70Cu isomers. At A = 67 we observed a new β-ray activity of 21(1) s half-life which is here assigned to the decay of 67Ni.  相似文献

Inelastic scattering of 40Ca on 40Ca at 50 MeV/A has been measured in coincidence with protons at the GANIL facility. The SPEG spectrometer was associated with 240 CsI(Tl) scintillators of the INDRA 4pi array, allowing for the measurement of complete decay events. The missing energy method was applied to these events. For events with excitation energy between 42 and 55 MeV, a direct decay branch by three protons towards the low energy states of 37Cl gives the first evidence for a 3-phonon state built with giant resonances.  相似文献

Two-proton decay from (18)Ne excited states has been studied by complete kinematical reconstruction of the decay products. The (18)Ne nucleus has been produced as a radioactive beam by (20)Ne primary projectile fragmentation at 45 AMeV incident energy on a Be target. The (18)Ne at 33 AMeV incident energy has been excited via Coulomb excitation on a (nat)Pb target. The obtained results unambiguously show that the 6.15 MeV (18)Ne state two-proton decay proceeds through a (2)He diproton resonance (31%) and democratic or virtual sequential decay (69%). The quoted branching ratio has been deduced from relative angle and momentum correlations of the emitted proton pairs.  相似文献

The fusion reaction of 48Ca projectiles with 238U target nuclei was studied at the velocity filter SHIP of GSI in Darmstadt. Two decay chains were measured, which fully confirm data that were previously assigned to the isotope 283112 in experiments at the Flerov Laboratory in Dubna. Two other events are consistent with a 50% spontaneous-fission (SF) branch of this isotope. The mean value obtained for the half-life of 283112 is (6.9 +6.9 -2.3 s, the α energy is (9.520±0.015) MeV, and the total kinetic energy (TKE) of SF is (238±14) MeV. The half-life of the α decay daughter nucleus 279Ds is (0.18 +0.32 -0.07 s, and the TKE of SF is (210 +32 -11 MeV. The cross-section deduced from all four events is (0.72 +0.58 -0.35 pb , measured at an excitation energy of 34.6MeV of the compound nucleus 286112.  相似文献

In an experiment at the LISE3 facility of GANIL, we produced the proton-rich isotope 22Al by the fragmentation of a 36Ar primary beam at 95 MeV/nucleon. After implantation in a detector telescope, the decay of 22Al via β-delayed proton emission, β-delayed two-proton emission as well as, for the first time, via β-delayed α emission has been studied. An α peak has been observed at (3.27 ± 0.04) MeV with a branching ratio of (0.31 ± 0.09) %. The comparison of the different decay channels to those of the mirror nucleus 22F and to shell-model calculations favor a 3+ state as being the ground state of 22Al. A half life of T1/2 = (59 ± 3) ms has been measured.  相似文献
