Using numerical simulations of vector radiative transport, we examine time-resolved backscattering of circularly polarized plane waves normally incident upon a slab containing a random distribution of latex spheres in water. For large spheres the effect of polarization memory occurs a short time after first-order scattering and before depolarization. It is the result of successive near-forward-scattering events that maintain the incident wave's helicity. For moderately large scatterers it exhibits a simple dependence on the anisotropy factor. For larger spheres or those with higher refractive indices, it also depends on complicated angular and polarization characteristics of backscattering given by Mie theory. 相似文献

The properties of circularly polarized vortex beams in cylindrical polarization bases are studied. A circularly polarized vortex beam is decomposed into radial and azimuthal polarization. With the proper combination of vortex charge and the handedness of the circular polarization, a focal field with an extremely strong longitudinal component as well as a flat-topped profile can be obtained. The cylindrical decomposition also sheds light on the connections between orbital angular momentum and the spin of the light beams. 相似文献

All previous investigations on the Bloch oscillations of waves focus on scalar waves. Here we demonstrate, for the first time, the existence of Bloch oscillations of vector fields for circularly polarized light (CPL) propagating through a designed liquid crystal structure. To obtain the Wannier-Stark ladder of the CPL, we have designed a cholesteric liquid crystal structure with spatially varying pitch. The Bloch oscillations of the CPL have been observed in such a structure by exact numerical simulations. We have also shown that such a phenomenon can be easily detected in time-resolved reflection experiments. 相似文献

Range measurement has found multiple applications in deep space missions. With more and further deep space exploration activities happening now and in the future, the requirement for range measurement has risen. In view of the future ranging requirement, a novel x-ray polarized ranging method based on the circular polarization modulation is proposed,termed as x-ray circularly polarized ranging(XCPol R). XCPol R utilizes the circular polarization modulation to process x-ray signals and the ranging information is conveyed by the circular polarization states. As the circular polarization states present good stability in space propagation and x-ray detectors have light weight and low power consumption, XCPol R shows great potential in the long-distance range measurement and provides an option for future deep space ranging. In this paper, we present a detailed illustration of XCPol R. Firstly, the structure of the polarized ranging system is described and the signal models in the ranging process are established mathematically. Then, the main factors that affect the ranging accuracy, including the Doppler effect, the differential demodulation, and the correlation error, are analyzed theoretically.Finally, numerical simulation is carried out to evaluate the performance of XCPol R. 相似文献

Exact analytical results are presented for the nonlinear large motion of the magnetization vector in a body with uniaxial symmetry subject to a circularly polarized field. The absence of chaos, the existence of pure time-harmonic magnetization modes with no generation of higher-order harmonics, and the existence of quasiperiodic magnetization modes with spontaneous breaking of the rotational symmetry are proven. Application to ferromagnetic resonance and connection with the Stoner-Wohlfarth model are discussed. 相似文献

Optical diode plays an important role in optical computing and information processing. In this paper, a kind of three-layered chiral metamaterial is proposed to achieve diode-like asymmetric transmission for forward and backward propagations of circularly polarized electromagnetic waves only. The metamaterial is composed of a ring–chain structure sandwiched between two identical S-shaped metallic layers with their corresponding substrates. A transparent transmission at normal incidence in one direction and a small intensity of transmission in the opposite direction are numerically demonstrated in this chiral structure. Besides, the results reveal that the bandwidth of the cross-polarization transmission of this designed structure can be tuned by varying the incident angle of circularly polarized waves. 相似文献

Polarized positrons can be generated through the electron-positron pair creation from circularly polarized gamma-rays hitting a conversion target. Laser-Compton scattering is an efficient method to generate circularly polarized gamma-rays. Simulation studies on these two processes have been done with the Monte Carlo codes, CAIN and GEANT4. Using CAIN to simulate the Laser-Compton scattering process, the energy spectrum of the generated polarized photons could be obtained. GEANT4 was used to study the yield, energy spectrum and the mean polarization of the positrons emanating from the conversion target. To increase the yield of the generated positrons, an optimization study on the thickness of conversion target was also performed. 相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate that the magnetization can be reversed in a reproducible manner by a single 40 femtosecond circularly polarized laser pulse, without any applied magnetic field. This optically induced ultrafast magnetization reversal previously believed impossible is the combined result of femtosecond laser heating of the magnetic system to just below the Curie point and circularly polarized light simultaneously acting as a magnetic field. The direction of this opto-magnetic switching is determined only by the helicity of light. This finding reveals an ultrafast and efficient pathway for writing magnetic bits at record-breaking speeds. 相似文献

A process of pair production by a circularly polarized photon in the field of an unpolarized atomic electron was considered in the Weizaecker-Williams approximation. The degree of longitudinal polarization of a positron and an electron was calculated. An exclusive cross section, as well as a spectral distribution, were obtained. We estimate the accuracy of our calculations at the level of a few percent. We show the identity of the positron polarization for the considered process and for the process of pair production in the screened Coulomb field of a nucleus. 相似文献

Molecular above-threshold ionization by a circularly polarized laser field is investigated. Our theoretical approach is based on the modified molecular strong-field approximation. Various gauge-dependent versions of this approximation are considered and homonuclear and heteronuclear molecular species characterized by different symmetries are used as targets. As in the case of a linearly polarized field, the imprint of the molecular multicenter structure can be observed in the above-threshold ionization spectra. It manifests itself as minima in the rate of the ionized electrons as a function of their energy. The locations of these minima are strongly influenced by the symmetry of the corresponding highest occupied molecular orbital as well as the internuclear separation. Analyzing the interference structures of the electron spectra one can obtain information about the molecular symmetry. 相似文献

A scheme for quasi-phase-matching high harmonic generation of circularly polarized radiation is proposed: optical rotation quasi-phase-matching (ORQPM). In ORQPM, propagation of the driving radiation in a system exhibiting circular birefringence causes its plane of polarization to rotate; by appropriately matching the period of rotation to the coherence length, it is possible to avoid destructive interference of the generated radiation. It is shown that ORQPM is approximately five times more efficient than conventional QPM, and half as efficient as true phase-matching. 相似文献

A constant intensity, rectilinear light vibration, with spatially varying orientation, is obtained from superposition of two orthogonal circularly polarized waves propagating, in slightly different directions. Such an exposure on a photoanisotropic medium, prints a grating characterized only by spatial variations in the orientation of the induced optic axis. The diffraction properties of such a grating are investigated. It behaves as a uniformly transparent isotropic medium when illuminated by the same waves as during the recording process. Illumination by a circular wave, generates a transmitted and a single diffracted beam, while an incident elliptically polarized one would produce, apart from the central order, two diffracted beams with orthogonal circular polarizations. 相似文献

We report measurements of circularly polarized recombination radiation from a GaAs0.6P0.4 crystal bombarded with longitudinally spin polarized electrons of 10 eV energy. Qualitatively, this process can be considered as the inverse of the photoemission utilized in GaAs and GaAsP polarized-electron sources. The measured degree of circular polarization is 0.29%±0.06% if the crystal is cooled with liquid nitrogen and the incident electrons are 15%±3% polarized. 相似文献
