It is shown that charm photoproduction can be consistently described within an asymptotically free field theory. Quantum chromodynamics is used to derive sum rules for the total cross section σcγ which includes both production of mesons with hidden charm (J/ψ, ψ′ and so on) and of charmed particles (pairs DD, FF and so on). An estimate of σcγ as a function of energy is given and fast growth is discovered up to energies ~ 1000 GeV. In this energy range σcγ turns out to be equal to several μb. It is argued that measurements of charm photoproduction would give the most direct information on the gluon distribution within a nucleon. All the results are generalized to production of heavier particles containing new quarks. In particular, a simple rescaling law is derived connecting the cross sections for charm and beauty.  相似文献

For various kinematical domains, the cross section for the diffractive photoproduction of D* mesons at the HERA ep collider is calculated within a model based on perturbation theory. The results obtained by using different models of the Pomeron are compared.  相似文献

The production of , D0, D + , Ds + and charm hadrons and their antiparticles in e p scattering at HERA was measured with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of . The measurement has been performed in the photoproduction regime with the exchanged-photon virtuality and for photon-proton centre-of-mass energies in the range . The charm hadrons were reconstructed in the range of transverse momentum and pseudorapidity . The production cross sections were used to determine the ratio of neutral and charged D-meson production rates, , the strangeness-suppression factor, , and the fraction of charged D mesons produced in a vector state, . The measured and values agree with those obtained in deep inelastic scattering and in e + e- annihilations. The measured value is smaller than, but consistent with, the previous measurements. The fractions of c quarks hadronising as a particular charm hadron, , were derived in the given kinematic range. The measured open-charm fragmentation fractions are consistent with previous results, although the measured is smaller and is larger than those obtained in e + e- annihilations. These results generally support the hypothesis that fragmentation proceeds independently of the hard sub-process. We compute the charm dijet photoproduction cross section at next-to-leading order of QCD in the zero-mass variable flavour number scheme, i.e. with active charm quarks in the proton and photon. The results are compared to recent measurements from the ZEUS experiment at HERA. The predictions for various distributions agree with the data, in particular for large momentum fractions of the partons in the photon, where direct photon processes dominate. At low momentum fractions, the predictions are quite sensitive to the charm content in the photon. The experimental data are shown to favour parameterizations with a substantial charm-quark density such as the one proposed by Cornet et al.  相似文献

Measurements are presented of diffractive open charm production at HERA. The event topology is given by ep→eXY where the system X contains at least one charmed hadron and is well separated by a large rapidity gap from a leading low-mass proton remnant system Y. Two analysis techniques are used for the cross section measurements. In the first, the charm quark is tagged by the reconstruction of a D(2010) meson. This technique is used in deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) and photoproduction (γp). In the second, a method based on the displacement of tracks from the primary vertex is used to measure the open charm contribution to the inclusive diffractive cross section in DIS. The measurements are compared with next-to-leading order QCD predictions based on diffractive parton density functions previously obtained from a QCD analysis of the inclusive diffractive cross section at H1. A good agreement is observed in the full kinematic regime, which supports the validity of QCD factorization for open charm production in diffractive DIS and γp.  相似文献

The single-quark-transition language of the Melosh transformation is used to extract reduced multipole matrix elements from three recent sets of photocouplings for nonstrange baryon resonances. Magnetic dipole excitation of 56, L = 2 resonances is found to be suppressed, a result to be expected if spin-orbit effects are weak. Suggestions are made for further reduction of uncertainties in the data.  相似文献

A measurement of charm and beauty dijet photoproduction cross sections at the ep collider HERA is presented. Events are selected with two or more jets of transverse momentum pt jet1(2)>11(8) GeV in the central range of pseudo-rapidity -0.9<ηjet1(2)<1.3. The fractions of events containing charm and beauty quarks are determined using a method based on the impact parameter, in the transverse plane, of tracks to the primary vertex, as measured by the H1 central vertex detector. Differential dijet cross sections for charm and beauty, and their relative contributions to the flavour inclusive dijet photoproduction cross section, are measured as a function of the transverse momentum of the leading jet, the average pseudo-rapidity of the two jets and the observable xγ obs. Taking into account the theoretical uncertainties, the charm cross sections are consistent with a QCD calculation in next-to-leading order, while the predicted cross sections for beauty production are somewhat lower than the measurement.  相似文献

π0 and η photoproduction data in the region of 4 GeV are decomposed into t-channel exchange components of definite isospin and parity. The latter are discussed in terms of Regge exchange models and compared to vector-meson dominance related processes. The isospin-one natural parity-exchange component is smooth and structureless. The dominant unatural parity exchange in π0 photoproduction has isospin zero. As in π± photoproduction the ratio of natural to unnatural parity exchange is found to be larger than the vector-dominance expectation. Complementary information from a recent spin decomposition of γp → π0p gives further insight into the SU (3) properties of the exchanges. We predict unmeasured quantities and stress, in particular, the importance of studying γn → π0n with polarised photons.  相似文献

The inclusive pion spectra in the12C(γ,π) reaction are calculated in the distorted wave impulse approximation (DWIA). The final state pion-nucleus interaction was constructed within the framework of the multiple scattering theory. The sensitivity of the cross section to the choice of different optical potential variants is investigated.  相似文献

Calculations of the nuclear (γ, K+) reaction employing full Coulomb and optical distortions and a complete photoproduction vertex are reported. Hypernuclear excitations other than spin-flip modes are found to be significantly excited and distortion effects are found to strongly alter the magnitude of the cross sections.  相似文献

The paper gives an account of numerical results forl=0 andl=1 multipole amplitudes of pion photoproduction. They have been obtained by solving integral equations which originate from fixed angle dispersion relations that have been deduced in an earlier paper. In this Part II presented are solutions of truncated integral equations for photoproduction amplitudes, which take into account coupling with the most important transitionsM 1+ (3) (in the isovector case) andE 0+ (0) (in the isoscalar case). Discussed are implications of such an approach and a comparison of results obtained by a different method is being made.  相似文献

The paper gives an account of numerical results forl=0 andl=1 multipole amplitudes of pion photoproduction. They have been obtained by solving integral equations which originate from fixed-angle dispersion relations that have been deduced in an earlier paper. In this Part I outlined are some difficulties usually encountered in course of solving the problem of pion photoproduction by dispersion techniques, and proposed is an approach which introduces arbitrary parameters — cutoffs in the integral equation for transition amplitudes. Numerical results show some implications of this philosophy on the rôle played by the terms representing physical singularities and terms representing left-hand singularities controlled by one-particle (Born) contributions.  相似文献

The charm muoproduction data has been analysed in terms of the intrinsic charm and the γG fusion contributions, in order to estimate the intrinsic charm content of the nucleon. Unfortunately the result is sensitive to the choices of fragmentation function and the energy scale of αs, that one makes for the fusion contribution. Nonetheless, there is one solution with a hard intrinsic charm spectrum—very similar to that suggested by the recent hadroproduction data.  相似文献
