We study in this paper the global existence and exponential decay of solutions of the non‐linear unidimensional wave equation with a viscoelastic boundary condition. We prove that the dissipation induced by the memory effect is strong enough to secure global estimates, which allow us to show existence of global smooth solution for small initial data. We also prove that the solution decays exponentially provided the resolvent kernel of the relaxation function, k decays exponentially. When k decays polynomially, the solution decays polynomially and with the same rate. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to the investigation of a parabolic partial differential equation with non‐local and time‐dependent boundary conditions arising from ductal carcinoma in situ model. Approximation solution of the present problem is implemented by the Ritz–Galerkin method, which is a first attempt at tackling parabolic equation with such non‐classical boundary conditions. In the process of dealing with the difficulty caused by integral term in non‐local boundary condition, we use a trick of introducing the transition function G(x,t) to convert non‐local boundary to another non‐classical boundary, which can be handled with the Ritz–Galerkin method. This paper is concerned with adaptive global stabilization of an undamped non‐linear string in the case where any velocity feedback is not available. The linearized system may have an infinite number of poles and zeros on the imaginary axis. In the case where any velocity feedback is not available, a parallel compensator is effective. The adaptive stabilizer is constructed for the augmented system which consists of the controlled system and a parallel compensator. In this paper, we study the equation under non‐linear boundary conditions which model the vibrations of a beam clamped at x=0 and supported by a non‐linear bearing at x=L. The quenching problem is examined for a one‐dimensional heat equation with a non‐linear boundary condition that is of either local or non‐local type. Sufficient conditions are derived that establish both quenching and non‐quenching behaviour. The growth rate of the solution near quenching is also given for a power‐law non‐linearity. In this article, we extend the fourth‐order compact boundary scheme in Liao et al. (Numer Methods Partial Differential Equations 18 (2002), 340–354) to a 3D problem and then combine it with the fourth‐order compact alternating direction implicit (ADI) method in Gu et al. (J Comput Appl Math 155 (2003), 1–17) to solve the 3D reaction‐diffusion equation with Neumann boundary condition. First, the reaction‐diffusion equation is solved with a compact fourth‐order finite difference method based on the Padé approximation, which is then combined with the ADI method and a fourth‐order compact scheme to approximate the Neumann boundary condition, to obtain fourth order accuracy in space. The accuracy in the temporal dimension is improved to fourth order by applying the Richardson extrapolation technique, although the unconditional stability of the numerical method is proved, and several numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed new algorithm. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We consider the non‐local singular boundary value problem (1) where qC0([0,1]) and f, hC0((0,∞)), limf(x)=?∞, limh(x)=∞. We present conditions guaranteeing the existence of a solution xC1([0,1]) ∩ C2((0,1]) which is positive on (0,1]. In this paper we consider the non‐linear wave equation a,b>0, associated with initial and Dirichlet boundary conditions. We prove, under suitable conditions on α,β,m,p and for negative initial energy, a global non‐existence theorem. This improves a result by Yang (Math. Meth. Appl. Sci. 2002; 25 :825–833), who requires that the initial energy be sufficiently negative and relates the global non‐existence of solutions to the size of Ω. In this paper we look at a probabilistic approach to a non‐local quadratic form that has lately attracted some interest. This form is related to a recently introduced non‐local normal derivative. The goal is to construct two Markov processes: one corresponding to that form and the other which is related to a probabilistic interpretation of the Neumann problem. The control problem for a three‐dimensional non‐linear thermoelasticity system is considered. The system may represent, among others, the dynamical model of shape memory materials. As controls we take distributed heat sources and body forces. The goal functional refers to the desired evolution of displacement, strain and temperature. The continuity and differentiability of solutions with respect to controls is studied. The existence of optimal controls is proved and the necessary optimality conditions are formulated. We consider some initial–boundary value problems for non‐linear equations of thermoviscoelasticity in the three‐dimensional case. Since, we are interested to prove global existence we consider spherically symmetric problem. We examine the Neumann conditions for the temperature and either the Neumann or the Dirichlet boundary conditions for the elasticity equations. Using the energy method, we are able to obtain some energy estimates in appropriate Sobolev spaces enough to prove existence for all time without any restrictions on data. Due to the spherical symmetricity the constants in the above estimates increase with time so the existence for all finite times is proved only. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper deals with the dynamics of non‐linear distributed parameter fixed‐bed bioreactors. The model consists of a pair of non‐linear partial differential (evolution) equations. The true spatially three‐dimensional situation is considered instead of the usual one‐dimensional approximation. This enables one to take into account the effects of flow profiles and the true location of the measurement transducer. The (output) evolution of the corresponding open‐loop control system is simulated. Furthermore, the associated closed‐loop system with respect to the relevant output function is considered.
