This paper is concerned with the spectral analysis of a one-velocity transport operator with Maxwell boundary condition in L 1-space. After a detailed spectral analysis it is shown that the associated Cauchy problem is governed by a C 0-semigroup. Next, we discuss the irreducibility of the transport semigroup. In particular, we show that the transport semigroup is irreducible. Finally, a spectral decomposition of the solutions into an asymptotic term and a transient one which will be estimated for smooth initial data is given.  相似文献

In this paper we relate the generator property of an operator A with (abstract) generalized Wentzell boundary conditions on a Banach space X and its associated (abstract) Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann operator N acting on a “boundary” space . Our approach is based on similarity transformations and perturbation arguments and allows to split A into an operator A00 with Dirichlet‐type boundary conditions on a space X0 of states having “zero trace” and the operator N. If A00 generates an analytic semigroup, we obtain under a weak Hille–Yosida type condition that A generates an analytic semigroup on X if and only if N does so on . Here we assume that the (abstract) “trace” operator is bounded that is typically satisfied if X is a space of continuous functions. Concrete applications are made to various second order differential operators.  相似文献

We investigate the spectral properties of the time‐dependent linear transport equation with bounce‐back boundary conditions. A fine analysis of the spectrum of the streaming operator is given and the explicit expression of the strongly continuous streaming semigroup is derived. Next, making use of a recent result from Sbihi (J. Evol. Equations 2007; 7 :689–711), we prove, via a compactness argument, that the essential spectrum of the transport semigroup and that of the streaming semigroup coincide on all Lp‐spaces with 1<p<∞. Application to the linear Boltzmann equation for granular gases is provided. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper presents a semigroup approach for the mathematical analysis of the inverse coefficient problems of identifying the unknown coefficient k(ux) in the inhomogenenous quasi‐linear parabolic equation ut(x, t)=(k(ux)ux(x, t))x +F(u), with the Dirichlet boundary conditions u(0, t)=ψ0, u(1, t)=ψ1 and source function F(u). The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the distinguishability of the input–output mappings Φ[·]:??→C1[0, T], Ψ[·]:??→C1[0, T] via semigroup theory. The aim of this work is to show that in any complete Riemannian manifold M, without boundary, the curvature operator is nonnegative if and only if the Dirac Laplacian D2 generates a C*-Markovian semigroup (i.e. a strongly continuous, completely positive, contraction semigroup) on the Cliord C*-algebra of Mor, equivalently, if and only if the quadratic form $\mathcal{E}$D of D2 is a C*-Dirichlet form.  相似文献

The initial boundary value problem for linear elastodynamic system for viscoporous materials is considered. Exponential decay of solutions via the linear boundary feedback is established. Existence of solutions is obtained through the method of c0‐semigroups. Exponential stabilization is derived via a proper collection of ideas of observability inequality, energy identity and c0‐semigroup of contractions. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The linearized initial‐boundary value problem describing small motions of the viscous, barotropic compressible fluid in a bounded vessel is studied under various boundary conditions (Dirichlet, Neumann and intermediate). It is shown that the corresponding operator generates an analytic semigroup in the space L2. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper deals with the spectral study of the streaming operator with general boundary conditions defined by means of a boundary operator K. We study the positivity and the irreducibility of the generated semigroup proved in [M. Boulanouar, L’opérateur d’Advection: existence d’un C 0-semi-groupe (I), Transp. Theory Stat. Phys. 31, 2002, 153–167], in the case ‖K‖ ⩾ 1. We also give some spectral properties of the streaming operator and we characterize the type of the generated semigroup in terms of the solution of a characteristic equation.  相似文献

This paper considers semigroups of operators generated by pseudodifferential operators in weighted L p -spaces of vector functions on \mathbbRn {\mathbb{R}^n} (or on a compact manifold without boundary). Sufficient conditions for a semigroup to be strongly continuous and analytic are obtained, conditions for it to be completely continuous are found, and the distribution of the eigenvalues of its infinitesimal generator is examined. Also, an integral representation that singles out the principal term of the semigroup as t → 0+ is established.  相似文献

We consider semidiscrete approximations of parabolic boundary value problems based on an elliptic approximation by J. Nitsche, in which the approximating subspaces are not subject to any boundary conditions. Optimal Lp (L 2) error estimates are derived for both smooth and nonsmooth boundary data. The approach is

based on semigroup theory combined with the theory of singular integrals.  相似文献

This work deals with a mathematical model of an age‐cycle length structured cell population. Each cell is distinguished by its age and its cycle length. The cellular mitosis is mathematically described by non‐compact boundary conditions. We prove then that this mathematical model is governed by a positive C0‐semigroup. We study the free streaming operator T in a slab domain with boundary conditions described by a linear matrix operator Λ acting between the ‘incoming’ and ‘outgoing’ particle fluxes. Under suitable assumptions on the entries of Λ, it is proved that the resolvent operator of T is positive. It is proved also that T is the generator of a positive strongly continuous semigroup, whose type depends on the norm of the entries of Λ. Some examples are given. In particular the case of Maxwell type boundary conditions is studied and the location of the spectrum of T is improved. © 1997 by B. G. Teubner Stuttgart – John Wiley & Sons Ltd. Math. Meth. Appl. This paper focuses on boundary value problems for anisotropic differential-operator equations of high order with variable coefficients in the half plane. Several conditions are obtained which guarantee the maximal regularity of anisotropic elliptic and parabolic problems in Banach-valued L p -spaces. Especially, it is shown that this differential operator is R-positive and is a generator of an analytic semigroup. These results are also applied to infinite systems of anisotropic type partial differential equations in the half plane.  相似文献

It is known that the bicyclic semigroup S 1 is an amenable inverse semigroup. In this note we show that the convolution semigroup algebra 1(S 1) is not approximately amenable.  相似文献

Let S be a semigroup and 𝔽 be a field. For an ideal J of the semigroup algebra 𝔽[S] of S over 𝔽, let ?J denote the restriction (to S) of the congruence on 𝔽[S] defined by the ideal J. A semigroup S is called a permutable semigroup if α ○ β = β ○ α is satisfied for all congruences α and β of S. In this paper we show that if S is a semilattice or a rectangular band then φ{S; 𝔽}J → ?J is a homomorphism of the semigroup (Con(𝔽[S]); ○ ) into the relation semigroup (?S; ○ ) if and only if S is a permutable semigroup.  相似文献

Let S be a finite orthodox semigroup or an orthodox semigroup where the idempotent band E(S) is locally pseudofinite. In this paper, by using principal factors and Rukolaǐne idempotents, we show that the contracted semigroup algebra R0[S] is semiprimitive if and only if S is an inverse semigroup and R[G] is semiprimitive for each maximal subgroup G of S. This theorem strengthens previous results about the semiprimitivity of inverse semigroup algebras.  相似文献

A semigroup S is called an absolute coretract if for any continuous homomorphism f from a compact Hausdorff right topological semigroup T onto a compact Hausdorff right topological semigroup containing S algebraically there exists a homomorphism g \colon S→ T such that f\circ g=id S . The semigroup β\ben contains isomorphic copies of any countable absolute coretract. In this article we define a class C of semigroups of idempotents each of which is a decreasing chain of rectangular semigroups. It is proved that every semigroup from C is an absolute coretract and every finite semigroup of idempotents, which is an absolute coretract, belongs to C . July 25, 2000  相似文献

In this article, we study a second-order differential operator with mixed nonlocal boundary conditions combined weighting integral boundary condition with another two-point boundary condition. Under certain conditions on the weighting functions and on the coefficients in the boundary conditions, called regular and nonregular cases, we prove that the resolvent decreases with respect to the spectral parameter in L p ?(0,?1), but there is no maximal decreasing at infinity for p?>?1. Furthermore, the studied operator generates in L p ?(0,?1) an analytic semigroup for p?=?1 in regular case, and an analytic semigroup with singularities for p?>?1 in both cases, and for p?=?1 in the nonregular case only. The obtained results are then used to show the correct solvability of a mixed problem for a parabolic partial differential equation with nonregular boundary conditions.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

An elliptic equation with Neumann boundary conditions and unbounded drift coefficients is studied in a space L 2(? d , ν) where ν is an invariant measure. The corresponding semigroup generated by the elliptic operator is identified with the transition semigroup associated with a stochastic variational inequality.  相似文献

An inverse semigroup S is a Howson inverse semigroup if the intersection of finitely generated inverse subsemigroups of S is finitely generated. Given a locally finite action θ of a group G on a semilattice E, it is proved that E*θG is a Howson inverse semigroup if and only if G is a Howson group. It is also shown that this equivalence fails for arbitrary actions.  相似文献
