We present and discuss the derivation of a nonlinear nonlocal integrodifferential equation for the macroscopic time evolution of the conserved order parameter (r, t) of a binary alloy undergoing phase segregation. Our model is ad-dimensional lattice gas evolving via Kawasaki exchange with respect to the Gibbs measure for a Hamiltonian which includes both short-range (local) and long-range (nonlocal) interactions. The nonlocal part is given by a pair potential dJ(|x–y|), >0 x and y in d, in the limit 0. The macroscopic evolution is observed on the spatial scale –1 and time scale –2, i.e., the density (r, t) is the empirical average of the occupation numbers over a small macroscopic volume element centered atr=x. A rigorous derivation is presented in the case in which there is no local interaction. In a subsequent paper (Part II) we discuss the phase segregation phenomena in the model. In particular we argue that the phase boundary evolutions, arising as sharp interface limits of the family of equations derived in this paper, are the same as the ones obtained from the corresponding limits for the Cahn-Hilliard equation.  相似文献

We derive adsorption isotherms for an adsorbate of hard-sphere particles with sticky interactions at any fluid density being adsorbed onto a plane, sticky surface. The theory is based on the Percus-Yevick theory for bulk fluids and explicitly includes the equilibrium between the adsorbed fluid and the bulk adsorbate. The theory predicts a surface condensation at low temperatures and low bulk densities in good agreement with surface condensations found in experimental studies of adsorption of gases onto graphite. An approximate law of corresponding states for these transitions is developed. At higher bulk densities and room temperatures, the adsorption isotherms can show a maximum, in accord with recent experimental work.Supported by the Australian Research Grants Commission.  相似文献

Zn x Cd1–x S thin films (0x0.20) were prepared using rf sputtering in argon atmosphere and characterized using X-ray diffraction, optical transmission, electrical resistivity and photoconductive decay measurements. The films were found to possess hexagonal structure. The crystallite size and degree of preferential orientation were found to decrease with the increase ofx and to improve upon annealing in vacuum at 250 °C. The transmission edge shifted towards shorter wavelengths with the increase ofx in agreement with the expected shift in the energy band gap. The films were found to exhibit room temperature resistivity in the range 100–1000 cm. The obtained values of long wavelength transmission (70–80%) and minority carrier diffusion length (30 m) are high enough for the application of these films in the field of solar cells.  相似文献

It is shown that heat pulses, generated by current pulses in thin metal films, may be a powerful tool in the investigation of energy transfer dynamics in solids. Application to ruby shows clearly that the energy transfer from the single ions to the pairs is limited by the energy diffusion in the single ion system contrary to prior ideas. The time constants for the single ion—single ion energy migration and for the transfer from a single ion to a nearby pair could be estimated to be 250µs and 4µs, respectively, for 1.35% doped ruby.Project of the Sonderforschungsbereich 65, Frankfurt-Darmstadt, supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft  相似文献

We demonstrate with the example of Cahn-Hilliard dynamics that the macroscopic kinetics of first-order phase transitions exhibits an infinite number of constants of motion. Moreover, this result holds in any space dimension for a broad class of nonequilibrium processes whose macroscopic behavior is governed by equations of the form /t = W(), where is an order parameter,W is an arbitrary function of , and is a linear Hermitian operator. We speculate on the implications of this result.  相似文献

The low-friction region of an anharmonically bound Brownian particle is examined using systematic elimination procedures. We obtain an asymptotic expression for the spectrum of the Fokker-Planck operator. Asymptotic means both small anharmonicities and small friction constants compared to the oscillatory frequency . We conclude that Kramers' low-friction equation is generally valid only for 0<0.01 and has to be modified for 0.01 by including phase-dependent terms. From these the nonlinear part of the force field in connection with a finite temperature is shown to shorten the correlation time of the equilibrium velocity autocorrelation function and to renormalize the frequency of the corresponding spectral density.  相似文献

The problem of conduction modulation of laser radiation is considered. It is shown that acoustic wave interacting with photon field in active medium causes a periodic modulation of the number of quanta in the single-mode gas laser. The problem of modulation is solved quantum mechanically and it is shown that dielectric and conduction modulation give similar results.  相似文献

Slow flow of a conducting fluid past a non-conducting porous sphere of variable permeability in presence of a uniform radial magnetic field is studied. The drag experienced by the sphere is shown graphically and compared to that for a non-conducting fluid.Notation velocity vectors of the porous matrix and the conducting fluid - P, p pressures in the porous material and the free fluid - K permeability at a point of the porous medium - viscosity - v (=) kinematic viscosity - magnetic induction - current density - (r, , ) spherical coordinates - dimensionless constant - conductivity of the liquid The authors remain thankful to the referee for his valuable comments and helpful suggestions for improvement of the quality of the paper.  相似文献

A new approximate method for theoretically calculating longitudinal vibration frequencies of isotropic homogeneous rods of square and rectangular cross-section is given. We divide a three-dimensional longitudinal vibration into three one-dimensional ones; the coupling between the principal strains in question is assumed to be linear, similarly as in the static case of simple tension. The coupling between the deformations is realized by variable coupling parameters or depending on the order of vibrations (contrary to Rayleigh's correction where Poisson's ratio is the coupling parameter). These parameters are defined by the condition that the corresponding frequency must be minimized (stationary).Up till now Giebe and Blechschmidt [2] have given the best approximate method of calculation. The series of their calculated frequencies corresponds to the measuredones nearly as well as the frequencies calculated by us. The theory described here, however, contains a richer spectrum of frequencies and at the same time explains the frequencies measured in the range of the so-called dead zone, which is the weak point of Giebe's and Blechschmidt's theory.

The geometro-stochastic quantization of a gauge theory based on the (4,1)-de Sitter group is presented. The theory contains an intrinsic elementary length parameter R of geometric origin taken to be of a size typical for hadron physics. Use is made of a soldered Hilbert bundle over curved spacetime carrying a phase space representation of SO(4, 1) with the Lorentz subgroup related to a vierbein formulation of gravitation. The typical fiber of is a resolution kernel Hilbert space constructed in terms of generalized coherent states related to the principal series of unitary irreducible representations of SO(4, 1), namely de Sitter horospherical waves for spinless particles characterized by the parameter . The framework is, finally, extended to a quantum field-theoretical formalism by using bundles with Fock space fibers constructed from .Supported in part by NSERC Research Grant No. A5206.  相似文献

The classical non-linear Schrödinger equation associated with a symmetric Lie algebra =km is known to possess a class of conserved quantities which from a realization of the algebrak []. The construction is now extended to provide a realization of the Kac-Moody algebrak[, –1] (with central extension). One can then define auxiliary quantities to obtain the full algebra [, –1]. This leads to the formal linearization of the system.  相似文献

The impurity contribution to the resistivity in zero field (T) of dilute hexagonal single crystals of ZnMn, CdMn and MgMn has been studied in the mK range on samples cut parallel () and perpendicular () to thec-axis, using a SQUID technique for the measurements. Typical spin glass behavior is found in (T) as well as (T) for all alloys, with Kondo like logarithmic increases at higher temperatures and maxima atT m at lower temperatures, indicating the influence of impurity interactions. The differences in the corresponding isotropic resistivity poly(T) between the three systems can qualitatively be understood within the framework of a theoretical model by Larsen, describing (T) as a function of universal quantitiesT/T K and RKKY/T K , where RKKY is the RKKY-interaction strength andT K the Kondo temperature. With respect to the two lattice directions studied, the behavior of (T and (T is anisotropic in the Kondo regime as well as in the range where ordering becomes important. While the anisotropy in the Kondo slope can be understood by an anisotropic unitarity limit, the understanding of the anisotropy in region where impurity interactions are important remains problematic.Dedicated to Prof. Dr. S. We consider a class of scalar field lattice models with action 1/2()+V(), V small. After n block renormalization group transformations, new formulas are obtained for the finite lattice generating and correlation functions. For some infrared asymptotic-free models in the thermodynamic and n limits, the formulas for correlation functions are especially simple, isolate the correct dominant long-distance behavior, and can be used to control the subdominant contributions.  相似文献

Recently Johansson and Johnstone proved that the distribution of the (properly rescaled) largest principal component of the complex (real) Wishart matrix X*X(X t X) converges to the Tracy–Widom law as n,p (the dimensions of X) tend to in some ratio n/p>0. We extend these results in two directions. First of all, we prove that the joint distribution of the first, second, third, etc. eigenvalues of a Wishart matrix converges (after a proper rescaling) to the Tracy–Widom distribution. Second of all, we explain how the combinatorial machinery developed for Wigner random matrices in refs. 27, 38, and 39 allows to extend the results by Johansson and Johnstone to the case of X with non-Gaussian entries, provided np=O(p 1/3). We also prove that max(n 1/2+p 1/2)2+O(p 1/2 log(p)) (a.e.) for general >0.  相似文献

The paper explains the theory of modelling electrostatic fields by a resistance network. The conditions, which the resistance network must satisfy, are derived and the question of modelling electrodes of different shapes is solved. The finished network and the results obtained on it when modelling a jet for a linear h-f accelerator of electrons are described. Particular attention is paid to the influence of a space charge, the modelling of which is an advantage of this method.

In Clifford groups, a nonassociative product is defined which leads to the definition of nonassociative groups. These nonassociative groups have matrix representations on the condition that the row by column product of two matrices is replaced by the column by column product. A nonassociative group of transformations connected with the Lorentz group is determined, together with its irreducible, double-valued matrix representation, whose matrices undergo the column by column product.  相似文献

We give the algebra q /* dual to the matrix Lorentz quantum group q of Podles-Woronowicz, and Watamuraet al. As a commutation algebra, it has the classical form q /* U q (sl(2, )) U q (sl(2, )). However, this splitting is not preserved by the coalgebra structure which we also give. For the derivation, we use a generalization of the approach of Sudbery, viz. tangent vectors at the identity.  相似文献
