We show that two smooth nearby Riemannian metrics can be glued interpolating their scalar curvature. The resulting smooth metric is the same as the starting ones outside the gluing region and has scalar curvature interpolating between the original ones. One can then glue metrics while maintaining inequalities satisfied by the scalar curvature. We also glue asymptotically Euclidean metrics to Schwarzschild ones and the same for asymptotically Delaunay metrics, keeping bounds on the scalar curvature, if any. This extends the Corvino gluing near infinity to non-constant scalar curvature metrics.  相似文献

We prove that, among all Riemannian spaces of constant curvature, only three-dimensional spaces have torsion which is invariant under the group of motions. The torsion tensor in these spaces is covariantly constant and determines the torsion form. The ratio of the integral of this form over a bounded domain to its volume is a constant determining the torsion of the space. We introduce the notions of volume torsion and scalar torsion.  相似文献

We consider modified scalar curvature functions for Riemannian manifolds equipped with smooth measures. Given a Riemannian submersion whose fiber transport is measure-preserving up to constants, we show that the modified scalar curvature of the base is bounded below in terms of the scalar curvatures of the total space and fibers. We give an application concerning scalar curvatures of smooth limit spaces arising in bounded curvature collapses.

Motivated by the definition of combinatorial scalar curvature given by Cooper and Rivin, we introduce a new combinatorial scalar curvature. Then we define the discrete quasi-Einstein metric, which is a combinatorial analogue of the constant scalar curvature metric in smooth case. We find that discrete quasi-Einstein metric is critical point of both the combinatorial Yamabe functional and the quadratic energy functional we defined on triangulated 3-manifolds. We introduce combinatorial curvature flows, including a new type of combinatorial Yamabe flow, to study the discrete quasi-Einstein metrics and prove that the flows produce solutions converging to discrete quasi-Einstein metrics if the initial normalized quadratic energy is small enough. As a corollary, we prove that nonsingular solution of the combinatorial Yamabe flow with nonpositive initial curvatures converges to discrete quasi-Einstein metric. The proof relies on a careful analysis of the discrete dual-Laplacian, which we interpret as the Jacobian matrix of curvature map.  相似文献

This paper considers the prescribed zero scalar curvature and mean curvature problem on the n-dimensional Euclidean ball for n?3. We consider the limits of solutions of the regularization obtained by decreasing the critical exponent. We characterize those subcritical solutions which blow-up at the least possible energy level, determining the points at which they can concentrate, and their Morse indices. We show that when n=3 this is the only blow-up which can occur for solutions. We use this in combination with the Morse inequalities for the subcritical problem to obtain a general existence theorem for the prescribed zero scalar curvature and mean curvature on the three-dimensional Euclidean ball. In the higher-dimensional case n?4, we give conditions on the function h to guarantee there is only one simple blow-up point.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the scalar curvature of Yamabe solitons. In particular, we show that, with natural conditions and non-positive Ricci curvature, any complete Yamabe soliton has constant scalar curvature, namely, it is a Yamabe metric. We also show that a complete non-compact Yamabe soliton with the quadratic decay at infinity of its Ricci curvature has non-negative scalar curvature. A new proof of Kazdan?CWarner condition is also presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we study Finsler metrics of scalar flag curvature. We find that a non-Riemannian quantity is closely related to the flag curvature. We show that the flag curvature is weakly isotropic if and only if this non-Riemannian quantity takes a special form. This will lead to a better understanding on Finsler metrics of scalar flag curvature.   相似文献

We prove that any metric of positive scalar curvature on a manifold X extends to the trace of any surgery in codim > 2 on X to a metric of positive scalar curvature which is product near the boundary. This provides a direct way to construct metrics of positive scalar curvature on compact manifolds with boundary. We study a class of Finsler metrics which contains the class of P-reducible metrics. Finsler metrics in this class are called generalized P-reducible metrics. We consider generalized P-reducible metrics with scalar flag curvature and find a condition under which these metrics reduce to C-reducible metrics. This generalizes Matsumoto’s theorem, which describes the equivalency of C-reducibility and P-reducibility on Finsler manifolds with scalar curvature. Then we show that generalized P-reducible metrics with vanishing stretch curvature are C-reducible.  相似文献

We consider dynamics of the FRW Universe with a scalar field. Using Maupertuis principle we find a curvature of geodesics flow and show that zones of positive curvature exist for all considered types of scalar field potential. Usually, phase space of systems with the positive curvature contains islands of regular motion. We find these islands numerically for shallow scalar field potentials. It is shown also that beyond the physical domain the islands of regularity exist for quadratic potentials as well.   相似文献

The aim of this paper is to study slant curves of three-dimensional normal almost contact manifolds as natural generalization of Legendre curves. Such a curve is characterized by means of the scalar product between its normal vector field and the Reeb vector field of the ambient space. In the particular case of a helix we show that it has a proper (non-harmonic) mean curvature vector field. The general expressions of the curvature and torsion of these curves and the associated Lancret invariant are computed as well as the corresponding variants for some particular cases, namely β-Sasakian and cosymplectic. A class of examples is discussed for a normal not quasi-Sasakian 3-manifold.  相似文献

We introduce two versions of the Yamabe flow which preserve negative scalar-curvature bounds. First we show existence and smooth convergence of solutions to these flows. We then show that a metric with negative scalar curvature is controlled by the Yamabe metrics in the same conformal class with constant extremal scalar curvatures. This implies that the volume entropy of our original metric is controlled by the entropies of these Yamabe metrics. We eventually use these Yamabe flows to prove an entropy-rigidity result: when the Yamabe metric has negative sectional curvature, the entropy of a metric in the same conformal class is extremal if and only if the metric has constant extremal scalar curvature.  相似文献

We solve the problem of describing scaling factors of a homogeneous isotropic space-time such that the exact solution for the scalar field with a nonconformal coupling to curvature can be obtained from solutions for the conformally coupled field by redefining the mass and momentum. We give explicit expressions in the form of Abelian integrals for the dependence of time on the scaling factor in these cases. We obtain an exact solution for the scalar field coupled to the Gauss-Bonnet-type curvature and show that the corresponding nonconformal contributions can dominate in particle creation by the gravitational field.  相似文献

We diagonalize the metric Hamiltonian and evaluate the energy spectrum of the corresponding quasiparticles for a scalar field coupled to a curvature in the case of an N-dimensional homogeneous isotropic space. The energy spectrum for the quasiparticles corresponding to the diagonal form of the canonical Hamiltonian is also evaluated. We construct a modified energy–momentum tensor with the following properties: for the conformal scalar field, it coincides with the metric energy–momentum tensor; the energies of the particles corresponding to its diagonal form are equal to the oscillator frequency; and the number of such particles created in a nonstationary metric is finite. We show that the Hamiltonian defined by the modified energy–momentum tensor can be obtained as the canonical Hamiltonian under a certain choice of variables.  相似文献

For a pseudo-Riemannian manifold (M, g) of dimensionn3, we introduce a scalar curvature functionS(V) for non-degenerate subspacesV ofT pM which is a generalization of the scalar curvature, and give some characterizations of Einstein spaces in terms of this scalar curvature function. We also give a characterization for spaces of constant curvature. A waveguide in integrated optics is defined by its refractiveindex. The guide is assumed to be invariant in the propagationdirection while in the transverse direction it is supposed tobe a compact perturbation of an unbounded stratified medium.We are interested in the modes guided by this device, whichare waves with a transverse energy confined in a neighbourhoodof the perturbation. Our goal is to analyse the existence of such guided modes. Underthe assumptions of weak guidance the problem reduces to a two-dimensionaleigenvalue problem for a scalar field. The associated operatoris unbounded, selfadjoint, and bounded from below. Its spectrumconsists of the discrete spectrum corresponding to the guidedmodes and of the essential spectrum corresponding to the radiationmodes. We present existence results of guided modes and an asymptoticstudy at high frequencies, which shows that contrarily to thecase of optical fibers, the number of guided modes can remainbounded. The major tools are the min-max principle and comparisonof results between different eigenvalue problems. The originalityof the present study lies in the stratified character of theunbounded reference medium.  相似文献

Local Thermal Equilibrium States and Quantum Energy Inequalities   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In this paper we investigate the energy distribution of states of a linear scalar quantum field with arbitrary curvature coupling on a curved spacetime which fulfill some local thermality condition. We find that this condition implies a quantum energy inequality for these states, where the (lower) energy bounds depend only on the local temperature distribution and are local and covariant (the dependence of the bounds other than on temperature is on parameters defining the quantum field model, and on local quantities constructed from the spacetime metric). Moreover, we also establish the averaged null energy condition (ANEC) for such locally thermal states, under growth conditions on their local temperature and under conditions on the free parameters entering the definition of the renormalized stress-energy tensor. These results hold for a range of curvature couplings including the cases of conformally coupled and minimally coupled scalar field. Submitted: February 27, 2008. Accepted: May 5, 2008.  相似文献
