Abstract

We report the synthesis and characterization of multifunctional polysilane copolymers containing chiral and azobenzene chromophore as a pendant group. Multifunctional polymers of poly(methylphenylsilane) (PMPS) with (R)-N-(1-phenylethyl)methacrylamide (R-NPEMAM) and disperse red 1 methacrylate (DR1MA) were synthesized in a quartz tube using UV-technique. The molecular weights of such synthesized copolymers were found to be in the order of 103. The appearance of two glass transition temperatures in DSC indicated that the synthesized copolymers are block copolymers. The electronic absorbance of synthesized polymers was observed at 272?nm (π-π* transition of aromatic ring), 330?nm (σ-σ* transition of Si-Si chain of PMPS) and 475?nm (n-π* with π-π* transition due to azobenzene chromophore of DR1MA unit). The chirality of the synthesized polymer was confirmed through circular dichroism observed at 261?nm. Induced chirality appeared at 330?nm and 470?nm due to the association of the Si-Si chain of PMPS and the presence of azobenzene chromophore of the DR1MA unit respectively. The photoluminescence (PL) properties of the synthesized copolymers (SCDRDM-1B, SCDRDM-2B, and SCDRDM-3B) were observed at 307?nm and 415?nm when excited at 275?nm. The λem was also observed at 415?nm when excited by 325?nm. The multi-emission spectra appeared at 500?nm, 550 and 590?nm are presumed to be due to exciton coupling between azobenzene chromophore of DR1MA, and Si-Si σ-conjugation in association with the aromatic ring of PMPS and chiral unit R-NPEMAM block.  相似文献

Poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) (PNVCL) star‐shaped polymers with four arms and carboxyl end groups were synthesized by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of N‐vinylcaprolactam (NVCL) employing a tetrafunctional trithiocarbonate as an R‐RAFT agent. The resulting star polymers were characterized using 1H NMR, FT‐IR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and UV–vis. Molecular weight of star polymers were analyzed by GPC and UV–vis being observed that the values obtained were very similar. Furthermore, the thermosensitive behavior of the star polymers was studied in aqueous solution by measuring the lower critical solution temperature by dynamic light scattering. Star‐shaped PNVCL were chain extended with ethyl‐hexyl acrylate (EHA) to yield star PNVCL‐b‐PEHA copolymers with an EHA molar content between 4% and 6% proving the living character of the star‐shaped macroCTA. These star block copolymers form aggregates in aqueous solutions with a hydrodynamic diameter ranged from 170 to 225 nm. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Optically active polymers bearing chiral units at the side chain were prepared via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization in the presence of 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN)/benzyl dithiobenzoate (BDB), using a synthesized 6‐Op‐vinylbenzyl‐1,2:3,4‐Di‐O‐isopropylidene‐D ‐galactopyranose (VBPG) as the monomer. The experimental results suggested that the polymerization of the monomer proceeded in a living fashion, providing chiral group polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions. The optically active nature of the obtained poly (6‐Op‐vinylbenzyl‐1,2:3,4‐Di‐O‐isopropylidene‐D ‐galactopyranose) (PVBPG) was studied by investigating the dependence of specific rotation on the molecular weight of PVBPG and the concentration of PVBPG in tetrahydrofuran (THF). The results showed the specific rotation of PVBPG increased greatly with the decrease of the concentration of the PVBPG homopolymer. In addition, the effect of block copolymers of PVBPG on the optically active nature was also investigated by preparing a series of diblock copolymers of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)‐b‐PVBPG, polystyrene (PS)‐b‐PVBPG, and poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA)‐b‐PVBPG. It was found that both the homopolymer and the diblock copolymers possessed specific rotations. Finally, the ability of chiral recognition of the PVBPG homopolymer was investigated via an enantiomer‐selective adsorption experiment. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Homopolymers of tbutyl acrylate (PtBuA) and a monosubstituted acrylamide (PAM) having an amino acid moiety in the side chain, N‐acryloyl‐(L )‐phenylalanine methyl ester 1 , have been synthesized by Reversible Addition‐Fragmentation Chain Transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Diblock copolymers of these homopolymers were also synthesized by chain extending PtBuA with monomer 1 and after modification, using simple acid deprotection chemistries of the acrylate block to afford a poly (acrylic acid) block, an optically active amphiphilic diblock copolymer was isolated. The optically active amphiphilic diblock copolymers, which contain chiral amino acid moieties within the hydrophobic segment, were then self‐assembled to afford spherical micelles which were subsequently crosslinked throughout the shell layer to afford robust chiral nanoparticles. The hydrodynamic diameters (Dh) of the block copolymer micelles and nanoparticles were measured by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and the dimensions of the nanoparticles were determined using tapping‐mode atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A chiral monomer containing L ‐leucine as a pendant group was synthesized from methacryloyl chloride and L ‐leucine in presence of sodium hydroxide at 4 °C. The monomer was polymerized by free radical polymerization in propan‐2‐ol at 60 °C using 2,2′‐azobis isobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator under nitrogen atmosphere. The polymer, poly(2‐(Methacryloyloxyamino)‐4‐methyl pentanoic acid) is thus obtained. The molecular weight of the polymer was determined to be: Mw is 6.9 × 103 and Mn is 5.6 × 103. The optical rotation of both chiral monomer and its polymer varies with the solvent polarity. The amplification of optical rotation due to transformation of monomer to polymer is associated with the ordered conformation of chiral monomer unit in the polymeric chain due to some secondary interactions like H‐bonding. The synthesized monomer and polymer exhibit intense Cotton effect at 220 nm. The conformation of the chain segments is sensitive to external stimuli, particularly the pH of the medium. In alkaline medium, the ordered chain conformation is destroyed resulting disordered random coils. The ordered coiling conformation is more firmly present on addition of HCl. The polymer exhibits swelling‐deswelling characteristics with the change of pH of the medium, which is reversible. The Cotton effect decreases linearly with the increase of temperature which is reversible on cooling. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 2228–2242, 2009  相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of a photocleavable block copolymer containing an ortho‐nitrobenzyl (ONB) linker between poly(methyl methacrylate) and poly(d ‐lactide) blocks is presented here. The block copolymers were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of MMA followed by ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of d ‐Lactide and ROP of d ‐lactide followed by ATRP of MMA from a difunctional photoresponsive ONB initiator, respectively. The challenges and limitations during synthesis of the photocleavable block copolymers using the difunctional photoresponsive ONB initiator are discussed. The photocleavage of the copolymers occurs under mild conditions by simple irradiation with 302 nm wavelength UV light (Relative intensity at 7.6 cm: 1500 μW/cm2) for several hours. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two functional monomers, methacrylic acid 4‐(2‐benzoxazol)‐benzyl ester (MABE) containing the benzoxazole group and 4‐(2‐(9‐anthryl))‐vinyl‐styrene (AVS) containing the anthracene group were synthesized by rational design. The MABE was polymerized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using ethyl 2‐bromoisobutyrate (EBIB) as initiator in CuBr/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) catalyst system; block copolymers poly(MABE‐b‐AVS) was obtained, which was conducted by using poly(MABE) as macro‐initiator, AVS as the second monomer, and CuBr/PMDETA as catalyst. The constitute of two monomers in block copolymers poly(MABE‐b‐AVS) by ATRP could be adjusted, that is the constitute of the benzoxazole group and the anthracene group could be controlled in AB‐type block copolymers. Moreover, the fluorescent properties of homopolymers poly(MABE) and block copolymers poly(MABE‐b‐AVS) were discussed herein. With the excitation at λex = 330 nm, the fluorescent emission spectrum of poly(MABE) solution showed emission at 375 nm corresponding to the benzoxazole‐based part; with the same excitation, the fluorescent emission spectrum of poly(MABE‐b‐AVS) solution showed a broad peek at 330–600 nm when the monomer AVS to the total monomers mole ratio was 0.31, and the fluorescent emission spectrum of poly(MABE‐b‐AVS) in film state only showed one peak at 525 nm corresponding to the anthracene‐based unit that indicated a complete energy transfer from the benzoxazole group to the anthracene group. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel chiral N‐propargylsulfamide monomer ( 1a ) and its enantiomer ( 1b ) were synthesized and polymerized with (nbd)Rh+B?(C6H5)4 as a catalyst providing poly(1) (poly( 1a ) and poly( 1b )) in high yields (≥99%). Poly(1) could take stable helices in less polar solvents (chloroform and THF), demonstrated by strong circular dichroism signals and UV–vis absorption peaks at about 415 nm and the large specific rotations; but in more polar solvents including DMF and DMSO, poly(1) failed to form helix. Quantitative evaluation with anisotropy factor showed that the helical screw sense had a relatively high thermal stability. These results together with the IR spectra measured in solvents showed that hydrogen bonding between the neighboring sulfamide groups is one of the main driving forces for poly(1) to adopt stable helices. In addition, copolymerization of monomer 1a and monomer 2 was conducted, the solubility of poly(1) was improved drastically. However, the copolymerization had adverse effects on the formation of stable helices in the copolymers. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 500–508, 2007  相似文献

The asymmetric induction leading to a one‐handed helix was investigated in the anionic and radical copolymerization of triphenylmethyl methacrylate (TrMA) and (S)‐2‐isopropenyl‐4‐phenyl‐2‐oxazoline ((S)‐IPO), and highly isotactic copolymers with a reasonable optical activity were obtained. In the anionic copolymerization, the optical activity of the obtained copolymers depended on the polarity of solvents, and a highly optically active copolymer was produced in the copolymerization in toluene. The chiral oxazoline monomer functioned not only as a comonomer but also as a chiral ligand to endow the polymer with large negative optical rotation in the copolymerization with TrMA. The copolymers with small positive optical rotation were obtained in THF, indicating that IPO unit may work only as the chiral monomer that dictates the helical sense via copolymerization with TrMA. The isotacticity of the obtained copolymers depended on the contents of TrMA units in the copolymers, but was almost independent of the solvent for copolymerization. In the radical copolymerization, the obtained copolymers exhibited small optical activities. It seemed that the chiral monomer cannot induce one‐handed helical structure of TrMA sequences even if the sequences probably have a high isotacticity. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. We have successfully synthesized a series of redox‐degradable hyperbranched polyglycerols using a disulfide containing monomer, 2‐((2‐(oxiran‐2‐ylmethoxy)ethyl)disulfanyl) ethan‐1‐ol (SSG), to yield PSSG homopolymers and hyperbranched block copolymers, P(G‐b‐SSG) and P(SSG‐b‐G), containing nondegradable glycerol (G) monomers. Using these polymers, we have explored the structures of the hyperbranched block copolymers and their related degradation products. Furthermore, side reaction such as reduction of disulfide bond during the polymerization was investigated by employing the free thiol titration experiments. We elucidated the structures of the degradation products with respect to the architecture of the hyperbranched block copolymer under redox conditions using 1H NMR and GPC measurements. For example, the degradation products of P(G‐b‐SSG) and P(SSG‐b‐G) are clearly different, demonstrating the clear distinction between linear and hyperbranched block copolymers. We anticipate that this study will extend the structural diversity of PG based polymers and aid the understanding of the structures of degradable hyperbranched PG systems. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two chiral amphiphilic diblock copolymers with different relative lengths of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic blocks, poly(6‐O‐p‐vinylbenzyl‐1,2:3,4‐Di‐O‐isopropylidene‐D ‐galactopyranose)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) or poly(VBCPG)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM) and poly(20‐(hydroxymethyl)‐pregna‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one methacrylate)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) or poly(MAC‐HPD)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM) were synthesized via consecutive reversible addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer polymerizations of VBCPG or MAC‐HPD and NIPAAM. The chemical structures of these diblock copolymers were characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. These amphiphilic diblock copolymers could self‐assemble into micelles in aqueous solution, and the morphologies of micelles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. By comparison with the lower critical solution temperatures (LCST) of poly(NIPAAM) homopolymer in deionized water (32 °C), a higher LCST of the chiral amphiphilic diblock copolymer (poly(VBCPG)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM)) was observed and the LCST increased with the relative length of the poly(VBCPG) block in the copolymer from 35 to 47 °C, respectively. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The light‐responsive behavior in solution and in thin films of block copolymers bearing 2‐nitrobenzyl photocleavable esters as side groups is discussed in this article. The polymers were synthesized by grafting 2‐nitrobenzyl moieties onto poly(acrylic acid)‐block‐polystyrene (PAA‐b‐PS) precursor polymers, leading to poly(2‐nitrobenzyl acrylate‐random‐acrylic acid)‐block‐polystyrene (P(NBA‐r‐AA)‐b‐PS) block copolymers. The UV irradiation of the block copolymers in a selective solvent for PS led to the formation of micelles that were used to trap hydrophilic molecules inside their core (light‐induced encapsulation). In addition, thin films consisting of light‐responsive P(NBA‐r‐AA) cylinders surrounded by a PS matrix were achieved by the self‐assembly of P(NBA‐r‐AA)‐b‐PS copolymers onto silicon substrates. Exposing these films to UV irradiation generates nanostructured materials containing carboxylic acids inside the cylindrical nanodomains. The availability of these chemical functions was demonstrated by reacting them with a functional fluorescent dye. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Photochromic liquid‐crystalline copolymers consisting of a photochromic monomeric unit containing both a spironaphthoxazine group and an undecamethylene spacer, and a liquid‐crystalline monomeric unit containing both a cholesteryl group and a decamethylene spacer were prepared to investigate the effect of the thermal properties of the photochromic monomeric unit on the mesomorphic order of the side chain of the related copolymers. The photochromic liquid‐crystalline copolymers containing a photochromic liquid‐crystalline monomeric unit showed only a smectic phase. On the other hand, the photochromic liquid‐crystalline copolymers containing a photochromic non‐liquid‐crystalline monomeric unit showed a chiral nematic phase (cholesteric phase). The photochromic chiral nematic liquid‐crystalline copolymer containing 14 mol % photochromic monomeric unit reflected visible light around 104 °C. To lower the temperature range of reflection of visible light, cholesteryl oleyl carbonate was used as a chiral nematic plasticizer for the photochromic chiral liquid‐crystalline polymer systems. Photo‐induced pitch change of the mixture by means of UV irradiation was investigated and it was concluded that the pitch change observed under UV irradiation was mainly induced by thermal effect in the case of our system. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In a quest for the main‐chain chiral and highly stable blue‐light‐emitting π‐conjugated polymers, a novel series of soluble conjugated random and alternating copolymers (PF‐BN) derived from fluorene and axially chiral 1,1′‐binaphthol (BINOL) were successfully synthesized by Suzuki coupling polymerization. The polymer structures, optical properties, and their electrochemical properties were investigated by 1H NMR, TGA/DSC, UV‐Vis absorption, photoluminescence, cyclic voltammetry, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and DFT calculations. The blue‐light‐emitting BINOL‐containing copolymers with proper content of BINOL show highly efficient photoluminescence and ultra highly stable light‐emission with almost unchanged fluorescent spectra after annealing at 200 °C in air for 10 h. The joint experimental and theoretical study of the main‐chain chirality reveals that (1) the chirality of BINOL can be transferred to the polymer backbone, (2) the effective conjugation length is about one BINOL and three fluorenes, (3) the main active chiral block in the copolymers is probably composed by one BINOL with the other two or three fluorenes, and (4) the dihedral angle in the PF‐BN copolymers should be larger than 105°. The incorporation of BINOL into the polyfluorene backbone is an effective way to produce highly efficient and stable blue‐light‐emitting main‐chain chiral conjugated polymer with interesting optoelectronic properties. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel thermoplastic elastomers based on multi‐block copolymers of poly(l ‐lysine) (PLL), poly(N‐ε‐carbobenzyloxyl‐l ‐lysine) (PZLL), poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) were synthesized by combination of ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and chain extension via l ‐lysine diisocyanate (LDI). SEC and 1H NMR were used to characterize the multi‐block copolymers, with number‐average molecular weights between 38,900 and 73,400 g/mol. Multi‐block copolymers were proved to be good thermoplastic elastomers with Young's modulus between 5 and 60 MPa and tensile strain up to 1300%. The PLL‐containing multi‐block copolymers were electrospun into non‐woven mats that exhibited high surface hydrophilicity and wettability. The polypeptide–polyester materials were biocompatible, bio‐based and environment‐friendly for promising wide applications. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. (AB)f star block copolymers were synthesized by the radical polymerization of a poly(t‐butyl acrylate)‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) diblock macroinitiator with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate in methanol under UV irradiation. Diblock macroinitiators were prepared by diethyldithiocarbamate‐mediated sequential living radical copolymerization initiated by (4‐cyano‐4‐diethyldithiocarbamyl)pentanoic acid under UV irradiation. The arm number (f) was controlled by the variation of the initial concentration of the diblock initiator. It was found from light scattering data that such star block copolymers (f ≥ 344) not only took a spherical shape but also formed a single molecule in solution. Subsequently, we derived amphiphilic [arm: poly(acrylic acid)‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate)] star block copolymers by the hydrolysis of poly(t‐butyl acrylate) blocks. These amphiphilic star block copolymers were soluble in water because the external blocks were composed of hydrophilic poly(acrylic acid) chains. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New chiral binaphthyl‐containing polyfluorene (PF) derivatives, PFOH , PFMOM , and PFP , bearing different binaphthyl units ((S)‐2,2′‐bis(methoxymethoxy)‐1,1′‐binaphthyl for PFMOM , (S)‐1,1′‐binaphthyl‐2,2′‐diol for PFOH , and (S)‐2,2′‐bis(diphenylphosphinyl)‐1,1′‐binaphthyl for PFP ) in the backbone have been designed and synthesized through Pd‐catalyzed Suzuki polycondensation. Their properties have been investigated in detail by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, TGA, DSC, UV–vis, photoluminescence (in solutions, in thin films before and after annealing), and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopic methods compared with poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl) ( PF ). The resulting copolymers possessed excellent solubility in organic solvents and emitted strong blue light. The phosphine oxide‐containing copolymers PFP and PFMOM exhibited higher quantum yields and better thermal spectral stability in comparison with PF . All the copolymers exhibited obviously the linearly polarized photoluminescent properties both in solutions and in solid states. High emission polarization ratios (RPL) of PFP were observed with no obvious decrease upon thermal annealing. In addition, investigation of the CD spectroscopic properties of these copolymers in THF solutions indicated that the chirality of the binaphthyls could be transferred to the whole PF backbone. All these results demonstrated that introduction of the chiral binaphthyls, particularly BINAPO, into the backbone could effectively improve the performances of the copolymers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new methodology is reported that allows a better control of the synthesis of polymeric core–shell nanocapsules. These nanocapsules were made of biocompatible polymers, obtained from poly(ethylene glycol)diacrylate and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate, and were used as carrier for curcumin as therapeutic agent. The impact of manufacturing factors (time of sonication, time of UV irradiation, and type of monomer) was investigated in relation to the average size of nanocapsules, their distribution, shape, composition, stability, and their capability to deliver curcumin. We successfully synthesized core–shell nanocapsules in various sizes, ranging from 80 nm to 300 nm, by acting either on the process conditions or on the composition of the monomer mixture. This wide range of sizes makes the method here proposed very promising for the production of nanocarriers. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. The block copolymerization of tert‐butyl methacrylate (tBMA) with a difunctionalized polystyrene (PS) macroinitiator was investigated. The polymerizations were performed under UV light irradiation using PS bearing α‐ and ω‐functionalized end groups containing diethyldithiocarbamyl groups as a macroiniferter. Kinetic studies indicate the molecular weights of triblock copolymers increased linearly with the conversion. Block copolymers with different lengths of PtBMA segments were easily prepared by varying the ratio of tBMA and PS macroiniferter or by controlling the monomer conversion. The formations of block copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatographic, 1H NMR, and DSC analyses. PtBMA segments of the triblock copolymer were subsequently hydrolyzed quantitatively to poly(methacrylic acid) segments using concentrated HCl as a catalyst in a refluxing solution of dioxane, and then an amphiphilic ABA triblock copolymer was produced. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. One‐step synthesis of block‐graft copolymers by reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) by using a novel initiator was reported. Block‐graft copolymers were synthesized in one‐step by simultaneous RAFT polymerization of n‐butylmethacrylate (nBMA) and ROP of ε‐caprolacton (CL) in the presence of a novel macroinitiator (RAFT‐ROP agent). For this purpose, first epichlorohydrin (EPCH) was polymerized by using H2SO4 via cationic ring‐opening mechanism. And then a novel RAFT‐ROP agent was synthesized by the reaction of potassium ethyl xanthogenate and polyepichlorohydrin (poly‐EPCH). By using the RAFT‐ROP agent, poly[CL‐b‐EPCH‐b‐CL‐(g‐nBMA)] block‐graft copolymers were synthesized. The principal parameters such as monomer concentration, initiator concentration, and polymerization time that affect the one‐step polymerization reaction were evaluated. The block lengths of the block‐graft copolymers were calculated by using 1H‐nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectrum. The block length could be adjusted by varying the monomer and initiator concentrations. The characterization of the products was achieved using 1H NMR, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, gel‐permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, elemental analysis, and fractional precipitation (γ) techniques. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
