Segment‐segment interaction of poly(methylmethacrylate) in t‐butyl alcohol‐water mixtures in poor solvent regime was studied. From the small‐angle X‐ray scattering measurements of semidilute solution range, the binary and ternary cluster integrals of polymer segments were determined from concentration dependence of the correlation length at various temperatures just above the upper critical solution temperature. We have calculated the contributions of the segment–segment interaction to the entropy and enthalpy from the measured temperature dependence of these interaction parameters and found that both quantities are negative and decrease with decreasing t‐butyl alcohol content. FT‐IR absorption peak of carbonyl group of poly(methylmethacrylate) shifts to the lower frequency with increasing water content. The implications of these findings are discussed. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 37: 2195–2199, 1999 相似文献

To analyze the natural rubber behavior during vulcanization under different cure treatments, an experimental investigation using small angle X‐ray scattering was performed. To achieve this, a set of samples were prepared using sulfur and N‐t‐butyl‐2‐benzothiazole sulfenamide as accelerator and then cured at temperatures between 403 and 463 K reaching their optimum mechanical properties considering rheometer tests. The crosslink density of the samples was evaluated by means of the swelling technique in solvent. In the usual Lorentz corrected representation of the X‐ray scattered intensity, a maximum was observed in the plots corresponding to the cured samples, revealing a highly correlated structure. This maximum shifted toward higher values of the scattering vector when the cure temperature of the samples increased. This behavior is discussed in terms of the crosslinks type present in the vulcanized rubber network at different cure temperatures. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Changes in the lamellar morphology that occurred during the quiescent isothermal crystallization of absorbable poly(p‐dioxanone) (PDS) and PDS/poly(glycolide) block copolymer were studied by synchrotron small‐angle X‐ray scattering. Important morphological parameters such as the lamellar long period, the thicknesses of the crystal and amorphous phases, and the scattering invariant were estimated as a function of time, and trends observed over a wide range of experimental conditions are discussed. Thicker but more perfect lamellae were detected at higher crystallization temperatures. The breadth of the normalized semilog Lorentz‐corrected intensity peak systematically decreased with increasing temperature. In addition, the values of the crystallization half‐time and the Avrami exponent (n = 2.5), determined from the real‐time changes in the lamellar development, showed superb agreement with the bulk crystallinity data generated from other experimental techniques, such as calorimetry and dielectric relaxation spectroscopy. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The immobilization of lysozymes (pI = 11) onto anionic spherical polyelectrolyte brushes (SPB) which consist of a solid polystyrene core and a densely grafted poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS) shell was systematically studied by fluorescence spectroscopy and small angle X-ray scattering. Results show that the capture of lysozyme by PSS brush is a dynamic process, which involves a quick agglomeration stage and a slow rearrangement one. And lysozyme inclines to immobilize in the inner layer of the brush, and saturation of lysozyme adsorption onto the SPB is gradually reached as the protein concentration increases, proceeding from the inside to the outside of the brush layers. As increasing the pH and ionic strength, the lysozyme previously adsorbed will be partially released and migrate from the inner to the outer layer of SPB. Last competitive adsorption tests between lysozyme and BSA or β-glucosidase were performed, indicating that besides electrostatic interaction counterion release force also plays an important role in protein adsorption. SPB was proved to be ideal candidate for controllable immobilization of protein, which can be extended into various applications, such as drug delivery and protein separation. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Structural and thermodynamic properties of cellulose solutions in the ionic liquid 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium acetate (EMIMAc) and its binary mixtures with N,N‐dimethyl formamide (DMF) are studied by small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS). These measurements indicate molecular dissolution of the cellulose chains without any significant aggregation. The power–law relationships of the evaluated correlation length and osmotic modulus to concentration exhibit exponents of ?0.76 and 2.06 for EMIMAc and ?0.80 and 2.14 for DMF/EMIMAc solvent mixture, respectively. Thus, these solvents can be considered to be good solvents for cellulose. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2017 , 55 , 888–894 相似文献

Blends of poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) were prepared in various compositions via melt mixing, and the morphological changes were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry and synchrotron wide‐angle and small‐angle X‐ray scattering techniques at a heating rate of 10 °C/min. Differential scanning calorimetry thermograms of PLA/PBS blends showed two distinct melting peaks over the entire composition range. The exothermal peak for PLA shifted significantly to a lower temperature and overlapped with that of PBS around 100 °C. A depression of the melting point of the PLA component via blending was observed. The synchrotron wide‐angle X‐ray scattering during heating revealed that there was no cocrystallization or crystal modification via blending. The synchrotron small‐angle X‐ray scattering data showed that well‐defined double‐scattering peaks (or peaks with a clear scattering shoulder) appeared during crystallization, indicating that this system possessed dual lamellar stacks. These peaks were deconvoluted into two components with a peak separation computer program, and then the morphological parameters of each component were obtained by means of the correlation function. The long period and average lamellar thickness of the two components before melting decreased with an increasing content of the other polymer component. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The deformation behavior of homogeneous ethylene‐1‐octene copolymers was investigated as a function of the crystallinity and the crystal size and perfection, respectively, by wide‐ and small‐angle X‐ray scattering using synchrotron radiation. The crystallinity and the crystal size and perfection, respectively, are controlled by the copolymer composition and the condition of melt crystallization. The deformation includes rotation of crystals, followed by plastic deformation and complete melting of the initial crystal population, and final formation of microfibrils. The process of rotation, plastic deformation, and melting of crystals of the initial structure is completed at lower strain if the size and perfection of the crystals, respectively, decrease, that is, if crystals thermally melt at lower temperature. The kinetics of the fibrillation of the initial structure seems independent of the crystal symmetry, that is, rotation and melting of pseudohexagonal and orthorhombic polyethylene crystals (as evident in low‐crystalline specimens) are similar. The structure of the microfibrils, before and after stress release, is almost independent of the condition of prior melt crystallization, which supports the notion of complete melting of the initial crystal population. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The morphology and distribution of zirconium oxide and zirconium phosphates in a matrix of sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) were investigated with anomalous small‐angle X‐ray scattering (ASAXS) and electron microscopy. ASAXS revealed that ZrO2 was distributed in the SPEEK matrix in the form of nanoparticles smaller than 13 Å. A decrease in the conductivity suggested that the sulfonic groups were bound to the zirconium oxo species at the particle surface. Furthermore, two kinds of membranes containing zirconium phosphate were investigated. In one case, the phosphate was directly dispersed in the polymer solution for the casting of the membrane. In the other case, the phosphate was previously treated with n‐propyl ammonium and polybenzimidazole. From ASAXS data, the fractal dimension could be estimated. Mass‐fractal behavior was confirmed for the SPEEK membrane containing previously exfoliated zirconium phosphate, with aggregates of 6.3–165 Å. Surface‐fractal behavior was detected for membranes with untreated phosphates, with aggregates of 6.4–185 Å. The untreated phosphates caused an increase in the permeability, without changing the proton conductivity much. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 42: 567–575, 2004 相似文献

Fiber‐structure‐development in the poly(ethylene terephthalate) fiber drawing process was investigated with online measurements of wide‐angle and small‐angle X‐ray scattering with both a high‐luminance X‐ray source and a CO2‐laser‐heated drawing system. The intensity profile of the transmitted X‐ray confirmed the location of the neck‐drawing point. The diffraction images had a time resolution of several milliseconds, and this still left much room for improvement. Crystal diffraction appeared in the wide‐angle X‐ray images almost instantaneously about 20 ms after necking, whereas a four‐point small‐angle X‐ray scattering pattern appeared immediately after necking. With the elapse of time after necking, the four‐point scattering pattern changed into a meridional two‐point shape. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The development of the morphology in poly(vinylidene fluoride)/poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PVDF/PHB) blends upon isothermal and anisothermal crystallization is investigated by time‐resolved small‐ and wide‐angle X‐ray scattering. The components are completely miscible in the melt but crystallize separately; they crystallize stepwise at different temperatures or sequentially with isothermal or anisothermal conditions, respectively. The PVDF crystallizes undisturbed whereas PHB crystallizes in a confined space that is determined by the existing supermolecular structure of the PVDF. The investigations reveal that composition inhomogeneities may initially develop in the remaining melt or in the amorphous phases of the PVDF upon crystallization of that component. The subsequent crystallization of the PHB depends on these heterogeneities and the supermolecular structure of PVDF (dendritically or globularly spherulitic). PHB may form separate spherulites that start to grow from the melt, or it may develop “interlocking spherulites” that start to grow from inside a PVDF spherulite. Occasionally, a large number of PVDF spherulites may be incorporated into PHB interlocking spherulites. The separate PHB spherulites may intrude into the PVDF spherulites upon further growth, which results in “interpenetrating spherulites.” Interlocking and interpenetrating are realized by the growth of separate lamellar stacks (“fibrils”) of the blend components. There is no interlamellar growth. The growth direction of the PHB fibrils follows that of the existing PVDF fibrils. Depending on the distribution of the PHB molecules on the interlamellar and interfibrillar PVDF regions, the lamellar arrangement of the PVDF may contract or expand upon PHB crystallization and the adjacent fibrils of the two components are linked or clearly separated. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The protein‐protein docking server ClusPro is used by thousands of laboratories, and models built by the server have been reported in over 300 publications. Although the structures generated by the docking include near‐native ones for many proteins, selecting the best model is difficult due to the uncertainty in scoring. Small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) is an experimental technique for obtaining low resolution structural information in solution. While not sufficient on its own to uniquely predict complex structures, accounting for SAXS data improves the ranking of models and facilitates the identification of the most accurate structure. Although SAXS profiles are currently available only for a small number of complexes, due to its simplicity the method is becoming increasingly popular. Since combining docking with SAXS experiments will provide a viable strategy for fairly high‐throughput determination of protein complex structures, the option of using SAXS restraints is added to the ClusPro server. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 相似文献

A novel capillary flow device has been developed and applied to study the orientation of worm‐like micelles, among other systems. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) data from micelles formed by a Pluronic block copolymer in aqueous salt solution provides evidence for the formation of worm‐like micelles, which align under flow. A transition from a rod‐like form factor to a less persistent conformation is observed under flow. Flow alignment of worm‐like micelles formed by the low molar mass amphiphile system cetyl pyridinium chloride+sodium salicylate is studied for comparative purposes. Here, inhomogenous flow at the micron scale is revealed by streaks in the small‐angle light scattering pattern perpendicular to the flow direction. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

The double melting behavior of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) was studied with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide‐angle X‐ray analysis. DSC melting curves of melt‐crystallized PBT samples, which we prepared by cooling from the melt (250 °C) at various cooling rates, showed two endothermic peaks and an exothermic peak located between these melting peaks. The cooling rate effect on these peaks was investigated. The melt‐crystallized PBT sample cooled at 24 K min?1 was heated at a rate of 1 K min?1, and its diffraction patterns were obtained successively at a rate of one pattern per minute with an X‐ray measurement system equipped with a position‐sensitive proportional counter. The diffraction pattern did not change in the melting process, except for the change in its peak height. This suggests that the double melting behavior does not originate from a change in the crystal structure. The temperature dependence of the diffraction intensity was obtained from the diffraction patterns. With increasing temperature, the intensity decreased gradually in the low‐temperature region and then increased distinctly before a steep decrease due to the final melting. In other words, the temperature‐dependence curve of the diffraction intensity showed a peak that is interpreted as proof of the recrystallization in the melting process. The peak temperature was 216 °C. The temperature‐dependence curve of the enthalpy change obtained by the integration of the DSC curve almost coincided with that of the diffraction intensity. The double melting behavior in the heating process of PBT is concluded to originate from the increase of crystallinity, that is, recrystallization. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A method for the quantitative analysis of two‐dimensional (2D) small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) patterns with fiber symmetry by successive information filtering is proposed and applied to a series of images recorded during a straining experiment of a two‐phase polymer sample at a synchrotron beamline. The studied equatorial scattering is similar to the frequently discussed void scattering, but originates from an ensemble of rodlike soft domains (needles) in the sample, orientated in the direction of strain. The intensity is extracted and projected onto the equatorial plane, the ideal two‐phase structure is extracted, and the 2D chord distribution is computed. This curve describes a 2D two‐phase morphology made from needle cross‐sections embedded in matrix material. Because interparticular correlation is found to be weak in the chord distribution, pure particle scattering is assumed. Modeling the needle cross‐sections by circular disks leads to a simple theory, which allows the deconvolution of a disk diameter distribution from the chord distribution. It is shown how parameters of the disk diameter distribution can be computed without deconvolution. For the selected poly(ether ester) thermoplastic elastomer the study of the soft domain needles indicates strain‐induced hardening. While for low elongation ϵ the soft needles are more compressible than the microfibrillar matrix, saturation is observed for ϵ > 2.5. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The crystallization behavior of a series of poly(ethylene‐co‐butylene naphthalate) (PEBN) random copolymers was studied. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) patterns showed that the crystallization of these copolymers could occur over the entire range of compositions. This resulted in the formation of poly(ethylene naphthalate) or poly(butylene naphthalate) crystals, depending on the composition of the copolymers. Sharp diffraction peaks were observed, except for 50/50 PEBN. Eutectic behavior was also observed. This showed isodimorphic cocrystallization of the PEBN copolymers. The variation of the enthalpy of fusion of the copolymers with the composition was estimated. The isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics were studied. The crystallization rates were found to decrease as the comonomer unit content increased. The tensile properties were also measured and were found to decrease as the butylene naphthalate content of the copolymers increased. For initially amorphous specimens, orientation was proved by WAXD patterns after drawing, but no crystalline reflections were observed. However, the fast crystallization of drawn specimens occurred when they were heated above the glass‐transition temperature. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) was used to obtain solution parameters of a weak polyelectrolyte in water in the absence of any additives, such as neutralizing agents or salt. Poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) was used as a weak polyelectrolyte from which SAXS data were obtained in the dilute region of 1–10 mg cm?3. An intrinsic viscosity of 15.7 dL g?1 was obtained from a plot of reciprocal reduced viscosities versus the concentration. The application of the SAXS data, that is, the contour length (L = 1.97 × 104 Å), the persistence length (a* = 58.5 Å), and the molecular weight (M = 5.9 × 105 Da), to the Yamakawa–Fujii equation suggested that PAA in water at 25 °C could be described as a wormlike chain having a cylindrical body of d = 6 Å. An end‐to‐end distance (r = 1.6 × 103 Å) was calculated from r = 2a*L ? 2(a*)2. The nonisotropic expansion factor (α = 2.9) was calculated for PAA expanding from the random coil in dioxane at 30 °C (Θ temperature) to the wormlike chain in water at 25 °C. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Synthesis and characterization of poly (acrylonitrile‐co‐acrylic acid) as precursor of carbon nanofibers 下载免费PDF全文
Synthesis of a co‐polymer of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) producing a carbon nanofiber out of PAN and co‐polymer of PAN and comparison between these products were examined. Free‐radical solution copolymerization of acrylonitrile (AN) with acrylic acid (AA) was studied. In this perspective, AA, and AN were used as a precursor for polymerization reactions; then copolymers were synthesized by using ammonium persulfate (APS) as an oxidant and carried in water/dimethylformamide (DMF) mixture. These polymers were used to obtain corresponding electrospun nanofibers. Synthesized P(AN‐co‐AA) was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy‐attenuated total reflection (FTIR‐ATR) spectroscopy, and characteristic peaks for AN unit, AA were achieved. Thermal behavior was examined by using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA), and results indicated that addition of monomers to AN unit reduced the Tg value of homopolymer PAN compared to P(AN‐co‐AA), which provides improvement to the cyclization and the formation of a thermally stable aromatic ladder polymer chain formation. In order to prevent the shrinkage and maintain the molecular orientation on nanofiber webs during stabilization, tension was applied to the samples, and thermal oxidation varies at 200–300°C for different duration of times. Surface morphology of the fibers was observed with scanning electron microscope (SEM), and average nanofiber diameter was found 550 nm, and after carbonization it was reduced to 320 nm for homopolymer PAN, and for poly(AN‐co‐AA) average nanofiber diameter was found as 220 nm and reduced to 130 nm, respectively. We examine the crystallization and chain conformation behavior of semicrystalline poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and amorphous poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) mixtures with wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS), and small‐angle neutron scattering (SANS) experiments. For blends with PEO weight fractions (wtPEO) greater than or equal to 0.3, below the melting point of PEO, the WAXD patterns reveal that crystalline PEO belongs to the monoclinic system. The unit‐cell parameters are independent of wtPEO. However, the bulk crystallinity determined from WAXD decreases as wtPEO decreases. The scattered intensities from SAXS experiments show that the systems form an ordered crystalline/amorphous lamellar structure. In a combination of WAXD and SAXS analysis, the related morphological parameters are assigned correctly. With the addition of amorphous PVAc, both the average amorphous layer thickness and long spacing increase, whereas the average crystalline layer thickness decreases. We find that a two‐phase analysis of the correlation function from SAXS, in which the scattering invariant is linearly proportional to the volume fraction of lamellar stacks, describes quantitatively the crystallization behavior of PEO in the presence of PVAc. When wtPEO is close to 1, the samples are fully spaced‐filled with lamellar stacks. As wtPEO decreases from 1.0 to 0.3, more PVAc chains are excluded from the interlamellar region into the interfibrillar region. The fraction outside the lamellar stacks, which is completely occupied with PVAc chains, increases from 0 to 58%. Because the radius of gyration of PVAc with a random‐coil configuration determined from SANS is smaller than the average amorphous layer thickness from SAXS, we believe that the amorphous PVAc chains still persist with a random‐coil configuration even when the blends form an ordered structure. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. pH‐sensitive poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/poly (acrylic acid) (PAA) microgels membranes are prepared by phase inversion of the N, N‐dimethylformamide solution containing PAA microgels and PVDF in aqueous solution. The composition and structure of the blend membrane are investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectra, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements, thermo gravimetric analysis, field‐emission scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscope. The results indicate the surface and cross section of the blend membranes have a porous structure with PAA microgels immobilized inside the pore and on the membrane surface. The blend PVDF membranes exhibit pH‐sensitive water flux, with the most drastic change in permeability observed between pH 3.7 and 6.3. The blend membranes are fouled by bovine serum albumin, and their antifouling property is enhanced by increasing PAA microgels, mainly derived from the improved hydrophilic property. Three stages of elastic behavior were observed during cyclic deformations for poly(ether‐b‐amide) (PEBA) segmented copolymers based on crystalline hard segments of polyamide 12 (PA12) and amorphous soft segments of poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO). The underlying microstructural evolution was characterized by a combination of in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), and small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) technologies. The γ–α″ phase transition of crystalline PA12 occurred upon stretching, and the orientation of the α″ phase was less reversible under larger strains. PTMO chain orientation cannot be restored to the initial state, contributing to plastic deformation. Driven by the entropy effect, the strain‐induced crystallization of PTMO can fuse during sample retarding, exerting little influence on the residual strain. For PEBA with a shore D hardness of 35 D, the long period (L) can be restored to the initial L after the sample was unloaded until system fibrillation. The tie molecules between adjacent oriented lamellae can be by drawn out high stress in a PEBA material with a shore D hardness of 40 D, and the relaxation led to a second long period. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
