Ultrafilter translations

We develop a method for extending results about ultrafilters into a more general setting. In this paper we shall be mainly concerned with applications to cardinality logics. For example, assumingV=L, Gödel's Axiom of Constructibility, we prove that if > then the logic with the quantifier there exist many is (,)-compact if and only if either is weakly compact or is singular of cofinality<. As a corollary, for every infinite cardinals and , there exists a (,)-compact non-(,)-compact logic if and only if either < orcf<cf or < is weakly compact.Counterexamples are given showing that the above statements may fail, ifV=L is not assumed.However, without special assumptions, analogous results are obtained for the stronger notion of [,]-compactness.     

Spectral parameter asymptotics of the Weyl solutions of Sturm-Liouville equations

In the paper one investigates the dependence of Weyl's solution ,)=c(,)+n()s(,) of the Sturm-Liouville equation y+q()y=²y on the spectral parameter . Under the condition that the potential q is bounded from below and q()exp(c₀+c[in1 ¦¦), it is proved for {ie217-01} for any positive values and A. If q()>1 and {ie217-02} for all >0, then in the semiplane >0 the Weyl solution (, ) is obtained from the Weyl solution (,x) is obtained from the Weyl solution e^ix with zero potential, with the aid of a generalization of B. Charakterisierung semisimplizialer Mengen durch Unterteilung und Graphen

We define a subdivision functor G for semisimplicial sets such that GXGY implies XY for all pairs of semisimplicial sets X, Y and (GX)¹(GY)¹ implies XY, too, but only, as far as we know, for pairs of weakly degenerate semisimplicial sets X, Y. These results are analogous to theorems on simplicial complexes which have been proved by Finney [1] and Segal [6].

Weak solutions of the Stokes problem in weighted Sobolev spaces

For n2 we consider the Stokes problem in ⁿ, -u + p=f, -divu=g, in weighted Soboiev spaces H ₆ ^m,r , where the weights are proportional to (1+|x|). We prove the existence of weak solutions for any K, whereK is a discrete set of critical values. Furthermore, we characterize the solutions of the homogeneous problem.This research was supported by the DFG research group Equations of Hydrodynamics, Universities of Bayreuth and Paderborn.

Ohne Zusammenfassung Zusatz bei der Korrektur: Ein vollständiger und korrekter Beweis für die Entscheidbarkeit der eingangs angeführten Aanderaaschen Klasse ((0, ), (, , ...)) erscheint demnächst im JSL (S.O. Aanderaa/H.R.Lewis: Prefix classes of Krom formulas). Ebendort wird auch die Reduktionstypeneigenschaft für ((0, ), (0, 0, )) und ((0, )), (0, 0, )) nachgewiesen, während ((0, ), (, )) sich als entscheidbar herausgestellt hat (s. E. Global properties of solutions to 1D-viscous compressible barotropic fluid equations with density dependent viscosity

The Navier-Stokes equations for compressible barotropic fluid in 1D with the mass force under zero velocity boundary conditions are studied. We prove the uniform upper and lower bounds for the density as well as the uniform in time L ²()-estimates for _x and u _x (u is the velocity). Moreover, a collection of the decay rate estimates for - (with being the stationary density) and u in ²()-norm and H ¹()-norm as time t are established. The results are given for general state function p() (but mainly monotone) and viscosity coefficient µ() of arbitrarily fast (or slow) growth as well as for the large data.     

Optimal Transient Response Shaping of the Servomechanism Problem

The problem of constructing a controller which gives a desirable transient response, e.g., a time response which is smooth, ripple-free, fast, and with negligible interaction effects, is considered in this paper for the servomechanism problem for continuous linear time invariant (LTI) systems. It is shown that this may be accomplished by constructing a controller which minimizes the following cheap control performance index: J=₀ {(+e)(+e)+(u)(u)}dwhere e is the error in the system and (u) is a polynomial function of u and its derivatives; here, >0 and is a diagonal matrix with nonnegative elements. A number of examples are included to illustrate the type of results which may be obtained.

Positivity and Stability for One-Sided Coupled Operator Matrices

Many evolutionary systems can be described by an abstract Cauchy problem governed by an operator matrix. Assuming this problem to be one-sided coupled and well-posed we study in this paper the positivity and the stability of the associated matrix semigroup. The abstract results are illustrated by several examples.     

Subclasses of regular and schlicht functions with fixed coefficient

In the open unit disk E={z, ¦z¦<1} we consider the class of regular functions q(z) = 1 + 2(1 = )e¹zⁿ + 2p_n+kz^n+k + ..., Re q(z)>, , [0, 1), [0, 2] and fixed, n, kN; fixing zE, we construct the range of the functional I₀=q(z). We find an analog of V. A.
