Recently we have introduced a new technique for combining classical bivariate Shepard operators with three point polynomial interpolation operators (Dell’Accio and Di Tommaso, On the extension of the Shepard-Bernoulli operators to higher dimensions, unpublished). This technique is based on the association, to each sample point, of a triangle with a vertex in it and other ones in its neighborhood to minimize the error of the three point interpolation polynomial. The combination inherits both degree of exactness and interpolation conditions of the interpolation polynomial at each sample point, so that in Caira et al. (J Comput Appl Math 236:1691–1707, 2012) we generalized the notion of Lidstone Interpolation (LI) to scattered data sets by combining Shepard operators with the three point Lidstone interpolation polynomial (Costabile and Dell’Accio, Appl Numer Math 52:339–361, 2005). Complementary Lidstone Interpolation (CLI), which naturally complements Lidstone interpolation, was recently introduced by Costabile et al. (J Comput Appl Math 176:77–90, 2005) and drawn on by Agarwal et al. (2009) and Agarwal and Wong (J Comput Appl Math 234:2543–2561, 2010). In this paper we generalize the notion of CLI to bivariate scattered data sets. Numerical results are provided.  相似文献

The Padua points are a family of points on the square [−1, 1]2 given by explicit formulas that admits unique Lagrange interpolation by bivariate polynomials. Interpolation polynomials and cubature formulas based on the Padua points are studied from an ideal theoretic point of view, which leads to the discovery of a compact formula for the interpolation polynomials. The L p convergence of the interpolation polynomials is also studied. S. De Marchi and M. Summary Walsh showed the close relation between the Lagrange interpolant in then th roots of unity and the corresponding Taylor expansion for functions belonging to a certain class of analytic functions. Recent extensions of this phenomena to Hermite interpolation and other linear processes of interpolation have been surveyed in [3, 5]. Following a recent idea of L. Yuanren [7], we show how new relations between other linear operators can be derived which exhibit Walsh equiconvergence.Dedicated to R. S. The problem of constructing a univariate rational interpolant or Padé approximant for given data can be solved in various equivalent ways: one can compute the explicit solution of the system of interpolation or approximation conditions, or one can start a recursive algorithm, or one can obtain the rational function as the convergent of an interpolating or corresponding continued fraction. In case of multivariate functions general order systems of interpolation conditions for a multivariate rational interpolant and general order systems of approximation conditions for a multivariate Padé approximant were respectively solved in [6] and [9]. Equivalent recursive computation schemes were given in [3] for the rational interpolation case and in [5] for the Padé approximation case. At that moment we stated that the next step was to write the general order rational interpolants and Padé approximants as the convergent of a multivariate continued fraction so that the univariate equivalence of the three main defining techniques was also established for the multivariate case: algebraic relations, recurrence relations, continued fractions. In this paper a multivariate qd-like algorithm is developed that serves this purpose.  相似文献

Mean value interpolation is a simple, fast, linearly precise method of smoothly interpolating a function given on the boundary of a domain. For planar domains, several properties of the interpolant were established in a recent paper by Dyken and the second author, including: sufficient conditions on the boundary to guarantee interpolation for continuous data; a formula for the normal derivative at the boundary; and the construction of a Hermite interpolant when normal derivative data is also available. In this paper we generalize these results to domains in arbitrary dimension.  相似文献

It is well known that rational interpolation sometimes gives better approximations than polynomial interpolation, especially for large sequences of points, but it is difficult to control the occurrence of poles. In this paper we propose and study a family of barycentric rational interpolants that have no real poles and arbitrarily high approximation orders on any real interval, regardless of the distribution of the points. These interpolants depend linearly on the data and include a construction of Berrut as a special case.  相似文献

A new definition of Lidstone polynomials [G.L. Lidstone, Note on the extension of Aitken’s theorem (for polynomial interpolation) to the Everett types, Proc. Edinb. Math. Soc. 2 (2) (1929) 16–19] is proposed; this is a Hessemberg determinantal form. The algebraic approach provides an elementary proof of the main recursive properties of Lidstone polynomials.  相似文献

In this paper, we describe a recursive method for computing interpolants defined in a space spanned by a finite number of continuous functions in RdRd. We apply this method to construct several interpolants such as spline interpolants, tensor product interpolants and multivariate polynomial interpolants. We also give a simple algorithm for solving a multivariate polynomial interpolation problem and constructing the minimal interpolation space for a given finite set of interpolation points.  相似文献

Quasi-interpolation of radial basis functions on finite grids is a very useful strategy in approximation theory and its applications. A notable strongpoint of the strategy is to obtain directly the approximants without the need to solve any linear system of equations. For radial basis functions with Gaussian kernel, there have been more studies on the interpolation and quasi-interpolation on infinite grids. This paper investigates the approximation by quasi-interpolation operators with Gaussian kernel on the compact interval. The approximation errors for two classes of function with compact support sets are estimated. Furthermore, the approximation errors of derivatives of the approximants to the corresponding derivatives of the approximated functions are estimated. Finally, the numerical experiments are presented to confirm the accuracy of the approximations.  相似文献

We study rational interpolation formulas on the interval [−1,1] for a given set of real or complex conjugate poles outside this interval. Interpolation points which are near-best in a Chebyshev sense were derived in earlier work. The present paper discusses several computation aspects of the interpolation points and the corresponding interpolants. We also study a related set of points (that includes the end points), which is more suitable for applications in rational spectral methods. Some examples are given at the end of this paper.  相似文献

On the Zero-Divergence of Equidistant Lagrange Interpolation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In 1942, P. Szász published the surprising result that if a function f is of bounded variation on [−1, 1] and continuous at 0 then the sequence of the equidistant Lagrange interpolation polynomials converges at 0 to . In the present note we give a construction of a function continuous on [−1, 1] whose Lagrange polynomials diverge at 0. Moreover, we show that the rate of divergence attains almost the maximal possible rate. (Received 2 February 2000)  相似文献

We first review briefly the Newton-Padé approximation problem and the analogous problem with additional interpolation conditions at infinity, which we call multipoint Padé approximation problem. General recurrence formulas for the Newton-Padé table combine either two pairs of Newton-Padé forms or one such pair and a pair of multipoint Padé forms. We show that, likewise, certain general recurrences for the multipoint Padé table compose two pairs of multipoint Padé forms to get a new pair of multipoint Padé forms. We also discuss the possibility of superfast, i.e.,O(n log2 n) algorithms for certain rational interpolation problems.  相似文献

The paper introduces Hermite-Fejér type (Hermite type) interpolation of higher order denoted by S mn(f)(S* mm(f)), and gives some basic properties including expression formulas, convergence relationship between S mn(f) and H mn(f) (Hermite-Fejér interpolation of higher order), and the saturation of S mn(f). This note is devoted to Lagrange interpolation for continuous piecewise smooth functions. A new family of interpolatory functions with explicit approximation error bounds is obtained. We apply the theory to the classical Lagrange interpolation.  相似文献

Multivariate Birkhoff interpolation is the most complex polynomial interpolation problem and people know little about it so far. In this paper, we introduce a special new type of multivariate Birkhoff interpolation and present a Newton paradigm for it. Using the algorithms proposed in this paper, we can construct a Hermite system for any interpolation problem of this type and then obtain a Newton basis for the problem w.r.t. the Hermite system.  相似文献

After recalling some pitfalls of polynomial interpolation (in particular, slopes limited by Markov's inequality) and rational interpolation (e.g., unattainable points, poles in the interpolation interval, erratic behavior of the error for small numbers of nodes), we suggest an alternative for the case when the function to be interpolated is known everywhere, not just at the nodes. The method consists in replacing the interpolating polynomial with a rational interpolant whose poles are all prescribed, written in its barycentric form as in [4], and optimizing the placement of the poles in such a way as to minimize a chosen norm of the error. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

A non-uniform, variational refinement scheme is presented for computing piecewise linear curves that minimize a certain discrete energy functional subject to convex constraints on the error from interpolation. Optimality conditions are derived for both the fixed and free-knot problems. These conditions are expressed in terms of jumps in certain (discrete) derivatives. A computational algorithm is given that applies to constraints whose boundaries are either piecewise linear or spherical. The results are applied to closed periodic curves, open curves with various boundary conditions, and (approximate) Hermite interpolation.  相似文献
