The retention behavior of uranium, thorium and lanthanides has been investigated with amide modified reversed phase C18 supports using α-hydroxy isobutyric acid (α-HIBA) as the mobile phase. Four structurally different amide moieties namely, 4-hydroxy-N,N-dihexyl butyramide (4HHBA), 4-hydroxy-N,N-di-2-ethylhexylhexanamide (4HEHHA), bis(N,N,N′,N-2-ethylhexyl)malonamide (B2EHM) and N-methyl-tris(dihexylcarbamoyl-3-methoxy)pivolamide (MTDCMPA) have been synthesized and studied. Among the various amide coated columns, the supports modified with 4HHBA, B2EHM and MTDCMPA exhibit an interesting retention for uranium and thorium, which is different from 4HEHHA modified support. The retention time for uranium and thorium increases with increasing amide concentration for 4HHBA, B2EHM and MTDCMPA supports, while the same decreases with increasing 4HEHHA content. However, the separation factor for uranium and thorium is greater on a 4HEHHA support, compared to an unmodified C18 column, reflecting the amide's preferential complexation of uranium over thorium.Columns modified with 4HHBA, B2EHM and MTDCMPA exhibit relatively higher retentions for lanthanides. However, MTDCMPA modified support shows a different elution profile for lanthanides compared to 4HHBA, and B2EHM modified columns. Individual separations of heavier lanthanides, i.e., from gadolinium to lutetium also have been achieved using 4HHBA and B2EHM modified supports. The influence of modifier content, mobile phase concentration and its pH on the retention of metal ions has also been studied. Based on these investigations, an efficient high performance liquid chromatographic method (HPLC) has been developed for the rapid separation of uranium from thorium as well as for the individual separation of heavier lanthanides.  相似文献

Summary The dependence of column efficiency on the eluent (MeOH/H2O) composition in a reversed-phase liquid chromatography system within a wide concentration range has been systematically examined. It is shown that when the intracolumn effect of mass transfer and diffusion is the main factor controlling band broadening the column efficiency decreases with the increase of the viscosity of the MeOH/H2O mixture; on the other hand, when the extra-column effect is the main factor an increase in the viscosity of the eluents will help in improving column efficiency. The column efficiency is also related to the properties of the sample.  相似文献

The determination of uranium at different stages of the recovery process as well as in seawater is important in its recovery study. A previous study developed a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for uranium determination in seawater using α-hydroxy isobutyric acid as a chelating agent. However, this method causes turbidity in process samples containing high amounts of iron, resulting in the clogging of the HPLC column. In the present work, use of mandelic acid as a chelating agent for uranium has been explored. Elution conditions were optimized for the separation of iron [Fe(III)] and uranium [U(VI)] by studying the effect of an ion interaction reagent, the concentration of mandelic acid, and methanol content in the mobile phase. Different parameters were optimized to develop off- line pre-concentration of uranyl-mandelate on the reversed stationary phase. The method offers quantitative recovery of uranium and linearity in the U(VI) concentration range of 0.5 ppb to 500 ppb and can be used for the determination of U(VI) in process samples with Fe/U amount ratios up to 3,000. The method has been successfully used for the determination of U(VI) in seawater samples and process samples. The developed methodology was validated by comparing the results with those of isotope dilution-thermal ionization mass spectrometry.  相似文献

The chromatographic retention mechanism describing relationship between retention factor and concentration of Cu2+(l ‐phenylalanine)2 using chiral ligand mobile phase was investigated and eight mandelic acid derivatives were enantioseparated by chiral ligand exchange chromatography. The relationship between retention factor and concentration of the Cu2+(l ‐phenylalanine)2 complex was proven to be in conformity with chromatographic retention mechanism in which chiral discrimination occurred both in mobile and stationary phase. Different copper(II) salts, chiral ligands, organic modifier, pH of aqueous phase, and conventional temperature on retention behavior were optimized. Eight racemates were successfully enantioseparated on a common reversed‐phase column with an optimized mobile phase composed of 6 mmol/L of l ‐phenylalanine or N,N‐dimethyl‐l ‐phenylalanine and 3 mmol/Lof copper(II) acetate or copper(II) sulfate aqueous solution and methanol.  相似文献

Summary Reversed-phase systems using octyl modified silica as such and as a support for dynamically coated ion-exchangers, were investigated for their ability to separate pentapeptides. Normal reversed-phase adsorption with C-8 bonded silica in combination with citrate bufferpropanol-1 mixtures were found useful for the separation of a number of pentapeptides. The separation of pentapeptides differing widely in retention can be speeded up by applying an organic modifier and/or sodium citrate gradient. A solvent generated cation-exchange system with sodium dodecylsulfate as surfactant showed a high selectivity for the pentapeptides under investigation and is better for analytical purposes than the normal reversed-phase adsorption systems investigated. With respect to the detection of pentapeptides with fluorescamine, the use of dry pyridine as a basic buffer and as diluent for the fluorescamine was also investigated. Compared to the commonly used diluent acetone, pyridine is better when using acidic eluents of moderate buffer strength. At pH>6 no significant differences in sensitivity between acetone and pyridine could be noticed.  相似文献

A sensitive and efficient flow-injection (FI) preconcentration and matrix-separation technique coupled to sector field ICP–mass spectrometry (SF-ICP–MS) has been developed and validated for simultaneous determination of ultra-low levels of uranium (U) and thorium (Th) in human urine. The method is based on selective retention of U and Th from a urine matrix, after microwave digestion, on an extraction chromatographic TRU resin, as an alternative to U/TEVA resin, and their subsequent elution with ammonium oxalate. Using a 10 mL sample, the limits of detection achieved for 238U and 232Th were 0.02 and 0.03 ng L–1, respectively. The accuracy of the method was checked by spike-recovery measurements. Levels of U and Th in human urine were found to be in the ranges 1.86–5.50 and 0.176–2.35 ng L–1, respectively, well in agreement with levels considered normal for non-occupationally exposed persons. The precision obtained for five replicate measurements of a urine sample was 2 and 3% for U and Th, respectively. The method also enables on-line measurements of the 235U/238U isotope ratios in urine. Precision of 0.82–1.04% (RSD) was obtained for 235U/238U at low ng L–1 levels, using the FI transient signal approach.  相似文献

The paper describes a research of possible application of UTEVA and TRU resins and anion exchanger AMBERLITE CG-400 in nitrate form for the isolation of uranium and thorium from natural samples. The results of determination of distribution coefficient have shown that uranium and thorium bind on TRU and UTEVA resins from the solutions of nitric and hydrochloric acids, and binding strength increases proportionally to increase the concentration of acids. Uranium and thorium bind rather strongly to TRU resin from the nitric acid in concentration ranging from 0.5 to 5 mol L−1, while large quantities of other ions present in the sample do not influence on the binding strength. Due to the difference in binding strength in HCl and HNO3 respectively, uranium and thorium can be easily separated from each other on the columns filled with TRU resin. Furthermore, thorium binds to anion exchanger in nitrate form from alcohol solutions of nitric acid very strongly, while uranium does not, so they can be easily separated. Based on these results, we have created the procedures of preconcentration and separation of uranium and thorium from the soil, drinking water and seawater samples by using TRU and UTEVA resins and strong base anion exchangers in nitrate form. In one of the procedures, uranium and thorium bind directly from the samples of drinking water and seawater on the column filled with TRU resin from 0.5 mol L−1 HNO3 in a water sample. After binding, thorium is separated from uranium with 0.5 mol L−1 HCl, and uranium is eluted with deionised water. By applying the described procedure, it is possible to achieve the concentration factor of over 1000 for the column filled with 1 g of resin and splashed with 2 L of the sample. Spectrophotometric determination with Arsenazo III, with this concentration factor results in detection limits below 1 μg L−1 for uranium and thorium. In the second procedure, uranium and thorium are isolated from the soil samples with TRU resin, while they are separated from each other on the column filled with anion exchanger in alcohol solutions. Anion exchanger combined with alcohol solutions enables isolation of thorium from soil samples and its separation from a wide range of elements, as well as spectrophotometric determination, ICP-MS determination, and other determination techniques.  相似文献

An investigation of the liquid chromatography of the minor capsaicinoids in a commercial capsaicinoid mixture is reported. Twelve stationary phases including C8, C18, C30, phenyl, and cation-exchange chemistries were examined in combination with isocratic aqueous methanol and aqueous acetonitrile mobile phases. A phenyl stationary phase and aqueous acetonitrile mobile phase baseline-resolved 7 of 11 capsaicinoids, and selected ion chromatograms (LC–ESI-MS) demonstrated this was the most effective reversed-phase separation. Argentation chromatography with an alkyl or phenyl column and aqueous silver nitrate–methanol mobile phase revealed the presence of the 6-ene-8-methyl and 6-ene-9-methyl homocapsaicin isomers and the absence of 7-ene-9-methyl homocapsaicin. A mixed phenyl–cation-exchange stationary phase (charged with silver ion) enabled unique and useful separations of the capsaicinoids.  相似文献

A simple HPLC method for the simultaneous determination of phenylglyoxylic acid (PGA), mandelic acid (MA), styrene glycol (SG) and hippuric acid (HA) in cell culture medium was developed. Analysis was performed on a C(18) column with a mobile phase composed of methanol-potassium dihydrogen phosphate (pH 2.5; 10 mM; 10:90, v/v) at 220 nm. The flow-rate of mobile phase was set at 0.5 mL/min. The mean absolute recoveries of PGA, MA, SG and HA were 95.9, 98.4, 98.0 and 97.1%, respectively. The inter-day and intra-day precisions, determined at three concentration levels, were less than 10% of RSD. The limits of quantification for PGA, MA, SG and HA were 13.2, 13.1, 14.5 and 11.2 microM with RSD less than 20%. The limits of detection for PGA, MA, SG and HA were 4.6, 4.6, 5.1 and 3.9 microM, respectively. The method was successfully applied to study the stereoselective metabolism of SG and MA in primary culture of rat hepatocytes. The results show that there is stereoselective metabolism for both of MA and SG in primary culture of rat hepatocytes. The extent of biotransformation from S-MA to PGA is significantly greater than that from the R enantiomer and the main metabolites are PGA and HA for S-SG and R-SG, respectively.  相似文献

To eliminate the color interference of large amounts of uranium in the determination of vanadium by the Hamner method, the vanadium was separated prior to titration by the extraction of vanadium cupferrate with chloroform. The chloroform extract was evaporated with sulfuric acid and the excess cupferron removed by oxidation with nitric acid and perchloric acid. The vanadium was reduced with ferrous ammonium, sulfate solution, the excess ferrous ion oxidized with ammonium persulfate, and the vanadium (IV) titrated with 0.02 N potassium permanganate. As little as 1.02 mg of vanadium in the presence of 5 g of uranium oxide was determined accurately by this method.  相似文献

Summary The chromatographic behavior of ten peptide isomers was investigated using isocratic eluting with reversedphase high-performance liquid chromatography. These peptides are growth hormone releasing factor, consisting of 29 amino acid residues and its isomers where on amino acid residue in the sequence was replaced with the corresponding D-amino acid. Linear relationship was observed between the logarithm of the capacity factors of the isomers and the acetonitrile concentration in the mobile phase with correlation coefficients of 0.995–0.998. The regression coefficients were almost the same for all the isomers with a relative standard deviation of 5.3%. These results suggest that the chromatographic behavior of peptide isomers is also predictable from the solvophobic theory. The regression coefficient reflects the molecular weight and the Y-intercept represents the hydrophobicity of the isomer. The peptide isomers can be separated from one another, based on the differences in the hydrophobicity of each isomer.  相似文献

The chromatographic behavior of seven tricyclic antidepressants (amitryptiline, clomipramine, doxepin, imipramine, maprotiline, nortryptiline, and trimipramine) was examined with micellar mobile phases containing the nonionic surfactant Brij-35. Acetonitrile-water mixtures were also used for comparison purposes. Tricyclic antidepressants are moderately polar basic drugs, which are positively charged in the usual working pH. This gives rise to a strong association with the alkyl chains and residual ionized silanols in silica-based stationary phases, which is translated in a high consumption of organic solvent to get appropriate retention times. Brij-35 modifies the surface of the stationary phases creating a neutral bilayer that masks silanols and reduces the polarity. Consequently, the retention times are decreased. A simple chromatographic procedure for the control of tricyclic antidepressants in pharmaceutical formulations was developed, using 0.02 M Brij-35 at pH 3 and UV detection. Satisfactory recoveries were achieved, with intra- and inter-day relative standard deviations usually below 1 and 2%, respectively. The preparation of the samples was simple and only required solubilization and filtration steps previous to injection. The proposed procedure has the advantage of not using an organic solvent in the mobile phase, and the biodegradable character of Brij-35. This makes an example of "green" liquid chromatographic analysis.  相似文献

A chiral nitrogen-containing calix[4]crown 2 bearing optically pure 1,2-diphenyl-1,2-oxyamino residue at lower rim showed excellent chiral recognition between enantiomers of mandelic acid. Using competitive 1H NMR titration the ratio of association constants of (S)- and (R)-mandelic acid with the chiral calix[4]crown was determined to be 102, that is 98% de, which is the best result obtained from artificial receptors for the chiral recognition of mandelic acid up to now.  相似文献

Four non-symmetric dimers containing mandelic acid as the chiral core have been synthesised, termed as QBMA-B, QBMA-BCN, QBMA-BBCN and QBBMA-BBCN, respectively. Chemical structures and liquid crystal (LC) properties of the dimers were characterised by FTIR, 1H-NMR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and polarised optical microscopy (POM). The results indicated that the rigidity and conformation of the molecules of the dimers played important effects on their mesophase properties. QBMA-B did not display any mesophase, QBMA-BCN and QBMA-BBCN exhibited nematic (N) phases, while QBBMA-BBCN displayed cholesteric (ch) phase, which indicated that chiral mandelic acid could induce cholesteric phase, but some attention should be paid to the molecular conformation to obtain cholesteric phase. For the four dimers, melting temperature (Tm) increased first and then decreased, inferring that molecular conformation played a more important effect besides molecular weight and rigidity.  相似文献

Phosphoric acid is generally obtained from an aqueous process starting with the reaction between phosphate rock and sulphuric acid. Due to their chemical similarity, uranium is usually associated with phosphate rock which during chemical processing is partitioned to phosphoric acid. Uranium determination in this matrix is a very important task because of its ingestion it could lead to radiological impact on the population. Therefore, a procedure was developed using an initial precipitation with calcium hydroxide and evaporation, followed by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA). The procedure was applied to analyse fourteen uranium enriched phosphoric acid samples.  相似文献

The reagent bis(salicylaldehyde)tetramethylethylenediimine has been used for the determination of dioxouranium(VI), based on complexation in aqueous solution at pH 6, followed by extraction in chloroform and HPLC determination on a Hypersil ODS (3 μm) column. The complex was eluted with the ternary mixture methanol-acetonitrile-water (40:30:30, v/v/v), with UV detection at 260 nm. Oxovanadium(IV), iron(III), copper(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II) and palladium(II) were completely separated and did not interfere in the determination of uranium. The linear calibration range and detection limits have been obtained. The method has been applied to the determination of uranium together with copper, iron and nickel in mineral ore samples.  相似文献

Summary Systematic studies on the anion-exchange behaviour of thorium in malic acid solution on Amberlite IRA-401 have been carried out. Acids such as HNO3, HCl, H2SO4, HClO4 and salts such as NH4Cl, (NH4)2SO4, NaClO4, NaCl and NaNO3 have been tested as eluants for thorium, their efficiency being evaluated in terms of their distribution coefficients. HNO3 is the best eluent for thorium. Methods have been developed for the separation of thorium from several elements in malic acid media using selective adsorption or selective elution. The proposed method is applied to the analysis of thorium in monazite where HClO4 is a better eluant than HNO3. The method is simple and the accuracy about ±3%.  相似文献
