We formulate Lehmer's Problem concerning the Mahler measure of polynomials for general compact abelian groups, introducing a Lehmer constant for each such group. We show that all nontrivial connected compact groups have the same Lehmer constant and conjecture the value of the Lehmer constant for finite cyclic groups. We also show that if a group has infinitely many connected components, then its Lehmer constant vanishes.

在计算机辅助设计几何中,变差缩减是一个非常重要的概念,本文分析了函数的变差和Lipschitz常数的关系,指出可以用Lipschitz常数来控制变差,由于变差的概念只限于一维的情形,而Lipschitz常数适用于任意维,这样在高维时就可用Lipschitz常数缩减的概念来代替变差缩减的概念,文中构造性地证明了Lipschitz常数缩减的散乱数据插值函数的存在性,并且对这类函数的性质及光滑性条件进行了讨论.  相似文献

In this paper we exhibit some connections between the Dunkl-Williams constant and some other well-known constants and notions. We establish bounds for the Dunkl-Williams constant that explain and quantify a characterization of uniformly nonsquare Banach spaces in terms of the Dunkl-Williams constant given by M. Baronti and P.L. Papini. We also study the relationship between Dunkl-Williams constant, the fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings and normal structure.  相似文献

The study of heat transfer in channel flow has been done by previous authors for Newtonian and elastico-viscous fluids. It is the aim of the present paper to study the temperature profile for flow of a micropolar fluid in a channel induced by a constant axial pressure gradient, when the walls are maintained at constant temperatures. We have examined the effects of microrotation on the temperature profile and on the kinetic energy of the fluid. Three cases have been chosen by us for detailed study: (i) both the walls are maintained at different constant temperatures, (ii) both the walls are maintained at the same constant temperature, (iii) one wall is kept at a constant temperature and there is no heat flux at the other wall.  相似文献

We introduce three new constraint qualifications for nonlinear second order cone programming problems that we call constant rank constraint qualification, relaxed constant rank constraint qualification and constant rank of the subspace component condition. Our development is inspired by the corresponding constraint qualifications for nonlinear programming problems. We provide proofs and examples that show the relations of the three new constraint qualifications with other known constraint qualifications. In particular, the new constraint qualifications neither imply nor are implied by Robinson’s constraint qualification, but they are stronger than Abadie’s constraint qualification. First order necessary optimality conditions are shown to hold under the three new constraint qualifications, whereas the second order necessary conditions hold for two of them, the constant rank constraint qualification and the relaxed constant rank constraint qualification.

In [A. Jüngel, Global weak solutions to compressible Navier–Stokes equations for quantum fluids, SIAM J. Math. Anal. 42 (2010) 1025–1045], Jüngel proved the global existence of the barotropic compressible quantum Navier–Stokes equations for when the viscosity constant is bigger than the scaled Planck constant. Recently, Dong [J. Dong, A note on barotropic compressible quantum Navier–Stokes equations, Nonlinear Anal. TMA 73 (2010) 854–856] extended Jüngel’s result to the case where the viscosity constant is equal to the scaled Planck constant by using a new estimate of the square root of the solutions. In this paper we show that Jüngel’s existence result still holds when the viscosity constant is bigger than the scaled Planck constant. Consequently, with our result, the existence for all physically interesting cases of the scaled Planck and viscosity constants is obtained.  相似文献

The packing constant is an important and interesting geometric parameter of Banach spaces. Inspired by the packing constant for Orlicz sequence spaces, the main purpose of this paper is calculating the Kottman constant and the packing constant of the Cesàro-Orlicz sequence spaces \(({\text{ce}}{{\text{s}}_\varphi })\) defined by an Orlicz function φ equipped with the Luxemburg norm. In order to compute the constants, the paper gives two formulas. On the base of these formulas one can easily obtain the packing constant for the Cesàro sequence space cesp and some other sequence spaces. Finally, a new constant \(\widetilde D\)(X), which seems to be relevant to the packing constant, is given.  相似文献

We discuss Liouville field theory in the framework of the Schwinger–Dyson approach and derive a functional equation for the three-point structure constant. We prove the existence of a second Schwinger–Dyson equation based on the duality between the screening charge operators and obtain a second functional equation for the structure constant. We present an alternative proof of the following fact: the hyperspace of compact closed subsets of constant width in Rn is a contractible Hilbert cube manifold. The proof also works for certain subspaces of compact convex sets of constant width as well as for the pairs of compact convex sets of constant relative width. Besides, it is proved that the projection map of compact closed subsets of constant width is not 0-soft in the sense of Shchepin, in particular, is not open.  相似文献

Killing vector fields of constant length correspond to isometries of constant displacement. Those in turn have been used to study homogeneity of Riemannian and Finsler quotient manifolds. Almost all of that work has been done for group manifolds or, more generally, for symmetric spaces. In a category supplied with a factorization system for morphisms and a fixed subcategory of constant objects, we introduce suitable notions ofconstant morphism and of the correspondingright andleft constant subcategories. The nature of constant morphisms we use captures two important features of constant subcategories: left-constant subcategories are right-constant in the dual category and the subcategory of constant objects contains relevant information on these subcategories. Furthermore, we present characterizations of constant subcategories in several contexts. We obtain the sharp constant for the Hardy-Sobolev inequality involving the distance to the origin. This inequality is equivalent to a limiting Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg inequality. In three dimensions, in certain cases the sharp constant coincides with the best Sobolev constant.  相似文献
