Magnetic properties of three isostructural compounds BaMP2O7 (M = Co, Ni, and Cu) were investigated by dc and ac magnetization and specific heat measurements. BaCuP2O7 was shown to be an excellent quasi-one-dimensional linear-chain Heisenberg antiferromagnet with an exchange constant (J/kB) of 103.8 K (Hamiltonian H = J Sigma SiS(i+1)) and a temperature for the long-range magnetic order (TN) of 0.81 K giving the ratio kBTN/J = 0.78%. BaCoP2O7 and BaNiP2O7 exhibited long-range antiferromagnetic order at TN = 10.4 and 10.1 K, respectively. BaCoP2O7 and BaNiP2O7 showed a large contribution of the short-range correlation above TN. BaNiP2O7 remained in the antiferromagnetic state up to 90 kOe at 2 K, whereas BaCoP2O7 demonstrated two metamagnetic phase transitions at about 52 and 71 kOe at 2 K if the magnetic field was parallel to the easy direction. BaMP2O7 melted incongruently at 1323 K (M = Co), 1344 K (M = Ni), and 1338 K (M = Cu).  相似文献

Magnetic properties of SrCuP2O7 and PbCu(1-x)ZnxP2O7 (x=0, 0.1, and 0.5) were studied by magnetic susceptibility, chiT, and specific heat, Cp(T). Both data showed that magnetism of SrCuP2O7 and PbCuP2O7 can be described by the one-dimensional (1D) uniform chain model despite the structural features suggesting the presence of zigzag chains with next-nearest-neighbor interactions. The chiT data were fitted by the Bonner-Fisher curve (plus temperature independent and Curie-Weiss terms) with g=2.20 and J/kB=9.38 K for SrCuP2O7 and g=2.17 and J/kB=8.41 K for PbCuP2O7 (Hamiltonian H=J SigmaSiS(i+1)). Magnetic specific heat, Cm(T), exhibited one broad maximum due to short-range ordering and one sharp peak at TN=1.64 K for SrCuP2O7 and TN=1.15 K for PbCuP2O7 due to long-range antiferromagnetic ordering. The characteristic values of the broad maxima on the Cm(T) curves (Cmax and TC(max)) were in good agreement with the theoretical calculations for the uniform 1D S=1/2 Heisenberg chain. Magnetic properties of PbCu0.9Zn0.1P2O7 still obeyed the 1D uniform chain model but those of PbCu0.5Zn0.5P2O7 did not. In air, SrCuP2O7 was stable at least up to 1373 K while PbCuP2O7 melted incongruently above 1180 K.  相似文献

The oxychalcogenides A2F2Fe2OQ2 (A = Sr, Ba; Q = S, Se), which contain Fe2O square planar layers of the anti-CuO2 type, were predicted using a modular assembly of layered secondary building units and subsequently synthesized. The physical properties of these compounds were characterized using magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, specific heat, (57)Fe Mossbauer, and powder neutron diffraction measurements and also by estimating their exchange interactions on the basis of first-principles density functional theory electronic structure calculations. These compounds are magnetic semiconductors that undergo a long-range antiferromagnetic ordering below 83.6-106.2 K, and their magnetic properties are well-described by a two-dimensional Ising model. The dominant antiferromagnetic spin exchange interaction between S = 2 Fe(2+) ions occurs through corner-sharing Fe-O-Fe bridges. Moreover, the calculated spin exchange interactions show that the A2F2Fe2OQ2 (A = Sr, Ba; Q = S, Se) compounds represent a rare example of a frustrated antiferromagnetic checkerboard lattice.  相似文献

La5Re3CoO16 and La5Re3NiO16 were synthesized by solid-state reaction and studied by SQUID magnetometry, heat capacity and powder neutron diffraction measurements. These two compounds belong to a series of isostructural Re-based pillared perovskites [Chi et al. J. Solid State Chem. 170 (2003) 165]. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate apparent short-range ferri or ferromagnetic correlations and possible long-range antiferromagnetic order for La5Re3CoO16 at 35 K, and at 38 and 14 K for La5Re3NiO16. Heat capacity measurements of the Co compound show a lambda anomaly, typical of long-range magnetic order, at 32 K. In contrast, the Ni compound displays a broader, more symmetric feature at 12 K in the heat capacity data, indicative of short-range magnetic order. Low-temperature powder neutron diffraction revealed contrasting magnetic structures. While both show an ordering wave vector, k=(0,0,1/2), in La5Re3CoO16, the Co2+ and Re5+ moments are ordered ferrimagnetically within the corner-shared octahedral layers, while the layers themselves are coupled antiferromagnetically along the c-axis, as also found in La5Re3MnO16 and La5Re3FeO16. In the case of the Ni material, the Re5+ and Ni2+ moments in the perovskite layers couple ferromagnetically and are canted 30° away from the c-axis, angled 45° in the ab-plane. The layers then couple antiferromagnetically at low temperature, a unique magnetic structure for this series. The properties of the La5Re3MO16 series, with M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Mg are also reviewed.  相似文献

[Mn(3)(OH)(2)(SO(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2)] and its deuterated analogue were synthesized by a hydrothermal technique and characterized by differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and IR spectroscopy. Its nuclear structure, determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis and Rietveld analysis of neutron powder-diffraction data, consists of a 3D network of chains of edge-sharing Mn(1)O(6), running along the c axis, connected by the apices of Mn(2)O(6) and SO(4) units. It is isostructural to the nickel analogue. Determination of the magnetic structure and measurements of magnetization and heat capacity indicate the coexistence of both magnetic long-range ordering (LRO) and short-range ordering (SRO) below a Néel temperature of 26 K, while the SRO is retained at higher temperatures. The moments of the two independent Mn atoms lie in the bc plane, and that of Mn(1) rotates continuously by 54 degrees towards the c axis on decreasing the temperature from 25 to 1.4 K. While the SRO may be associated with frustration of the moments within a Mn(3) trimer, the LRO is achieved by antiparallel alignment of the four symmetry-related trimers within the magnetic unit cell. A spin-flop field, measured by dc and ac magnetization on a SQUID, is observed at 15 kOe.  相似文献

Pulsed laser deposition has been used to artificially construct the n = 3 Ruddlesden-Popper structure La(2)Sr(2)Mn(3)O(10) in epitaxial thin film form by sequentially layering La(1-x)Sr(x)MnO(3) and SrO unit cells aided by in situ reflection high energy electron diffraction monitoring. The interval deposition technique was used to promote two-dimensional SrO growth. X-ray diffraction and cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy indicated that the trilayer structure had been formed. A site ordering was found to differ from that expected thermodynamically, with the smaller Sr(2+) predominantly on the R site due to kinetic trapping of the deposited cation sequence. A dependence of the out-of-plane lattice parameter on growth pressure was interpreted as changing the oxygen content of the films. Magnetic and transport measurements on fully oxygenated films indicated a frustrated magnetic ground state characterized as a spin glass-like magnetic phase with the glass temperature T(g) ≈ 34 K. The magnetic frustration has a clear in-plane (ab) magnetic anisotropy, which is maintained up to temperatures of 150 K. Density functional theory calculations suggest competing antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic long-range orders, which are proposed as the origin of the low-temperature glassy state.  相似文献

Ten compounds belonging to the series of oxygen-deficient perovskite oxides Ca(2)Fe(2-x)Mn(x)O(5) and CaSrFe(2-x)Mn(x)O(5+y), where x = 1/2, 2/3, and 1 and y ≈ 0-0.5, were synthesized and investigated with respect to the ordering of oxygen vacancies on both local and long-range length scales and the effect on crystal structure and magnetic properties. For the set with y ≈ 0 the oxygen vacancies always order in the long-range sense to form the brownmillerite structure containing alternating layers of octahedrally and tetrahedrally coordinated cations. However, there is a change in symmetry from Pnma to Icmm upon substitution of Sr for one Ca for all x, indicating local T(d) chain (vacancy) disorder. In the special case of CaSrFeMnO(5) the neutron diffraction peaks broaden, indicating only short-range structural order on a length scale of ~160 ?. This reveals a systematic progression from Ca(2)FeMnO(5) (Pnma, well-ordered tetrahedral chains) to CaSrFeMnO(5) (Icmm, disordered tetrahedral chains, overall short-range order) to Sr(2)FeMnO(5) (Pm3m, destruction of tetrahedral chains in a long-range sense). Systematic changes occur in the magnetic properties as well. While long-range antiferromagnetic order is preserved, the magnetic transition temperature, T(c), decreases for the same x when Sr substitutes for one Ca. A review of the changes in T(c) for the series Ca(2)Fe(2-x)M(x)O(5), taking into account the tetrahedral/octahedral site preferences for the various M(3+) ions, leads to a partial understanding of the origin of magnetic order in these materials in terms of a layered antiferromagnetic model. While in all cases the preferred magnetic moment direction is (010) at low temperatures, there is a cross over for x = 0.5 to (100) with increasing temperature for both the Ca(2)Fe(2-x)Mn(x)O(5) and the CaSrFe(2-x)Mn(x)O(5) series. For the y > 0 phases, while a brownmillerite ordering of oxygen vacancies is preserved for the Ca(2) phases, a disordered Pm3m cubic perovskite structure is always found when Sr is substituted for one Ca. Long-range magnetic order is also lost, giving way to spin glass or cluster-glass-like behavior below ~50 K. For the x = 0.5 phase, neutron pair distribution function (NPDF) studies show a local structure related to brownmillerite ordering of oxygen vacancies. Neutron diffraction data at 3.8 K show a broad magnetic feature, incommensurate with any multiple of the chemical lattice, and with a correlation length (magnetic domain) of 6.7(4) ?.  相似文献

DC magnetic susceptibility measurements on CsYbZnSe 3 show a broad magnetic transition at approximately 10 K and pronounced differences between zero-field-cooled and field-cooled data that lead to experimental effective magnetic moments of 4.26(5) BM and 4.39(4) BM, respectively. Specific heat measurements confirm that there is neither long-range ordering nor a phase transition between 1.8 and 380 K. First-principles electronic structure calculations with and without inclusion of spin-orbit coupling effects show that the spins of CsYbZnSe 3 prefer to orient along [010] rather than along either [100] or [001] of this orthorhombic material and that the spin exchange between adjacent Yb3+ ions along [100] is substantially antiferromagnetic. The magnetic properties of CsYbZnSe 3 are best described by an Ising uniform antiferromagnetic chain model.  相似文献

Cu4(OH)6SO4 (1) and Cu4(OD)6SO4 (2) were obtained by hydrothermal syntheses from copper sulfate and sodium hydroxide in H2O and D2O, respectively. They crystallize in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/a (14), a = 13.1206(5), b = 9.8551(3), c = 6.0295(2) Angstroms, beta = 103.432(3) degrees, V = 758.3(1) Angstroms(3), Z = 4 and a = 13.1187(5), b = 9.8552(3), c = 6.0293(2) Angstroms, beta = 103.410(3) degrees, V = 758.3(1) Angstroms(3), Z = 4, respectively. They are iso-structural to the mineral brochantite and consist of double chains of edge-sharing copper octahedra that are connected to one another by corners to form corrugated planes along bc; these planes are in-turn bridged by the unprecedented mu7-sulfate tetrahedra to give a 3D-structure. All the hydrogen atoms were precisely located from refinement of the neutron powder diffraction data of the deuterated sample. Magnetic susceptibility data reveal a low-dimensional behavior at high temperature and the presence of both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic super-exchanges resulting in a 3D long-range antiferromagnetic ordering at 7.5 K accompanied by a small canting of the moments. The transition is confirmed by a lambda-peak in the specific heat. The magnetic structure at 1.4 K shows the moments are oriented perpendicular to the corrugated planes with alternation along +/-a for neighboring chains within the double chains. The enhanced incoherent scattering at low-angle suggests the existence of short-range ferromagnetic clusters.  相似文献

The magnetic behaviour of the coordination polymer [Co(C(3)H(3)N(2))(2)](n) has been investigated by magnetization and specific heat measurements. Low-field magnetic susceptibility shows the presence of two maxima at approximately 8 and 4 K (T(f)), which reflect short-range low-dimensional antiferromagnetic behaviour and the existence of a spin-glass-like state, respectively. The latter state was observed by magnetic irreversibility in both the zero-field cooled and field-cooled data, and was also confirmed by specific heat measurements. The magnetic specific heat (C(mag)) shows a lack of any long-range ordered peaks. Instead, a broad maximum near T(f) was observed in the C(mag)(T)/T-curve. Below T(f), the C(mag)(T) data follow the relation: C(mag)(T)/T = gamma + AT. We suggest that the competition of the antiferromagnetic (AF) intra-chain and the ferromagnetic (F) inter-chain interactions in a low-dimensional arrangement of magnetic Co(2+) ions can produce the spin-glass behaviour in the sample. The susceptibility data was analyzed in terms of a spin S = 3/2 Heisenberg linear-chain model with a small exchange energy and is consistent with the presence of both F and AF interactions. The splitting of the crystal field energy levels of the Co(2+) ions causes a Schottky-type specific heat anomaly of around 60 K.  相似文献

The crystal, electronic, and magnetic structures of the cobalt oxyselenide La(2)Co(2)O(3)Se(2) were investigated through powder neutron diffraction measurements and band structure calculations. This oxyselenide crystallizes in a tetragonal layered structure with space group I4/mmm. The Co ion is sixfold-coordinated by two oxide ions and four selenide ions, and the face-sharing CoO(2)Se(4) octahedra form Co(2)OSe(2) layers. The band structure calculations revealed that the Co ion is in the divalent high-spin state. Rietveld analysis of the neutron diffraction profiles below 200 K demonstrated that the Co moments have a noncollinear antiferromagnetic structure with the propagation vector k = (?, ?, 0). The ordered magnetic moment was determined to be 3.5 μ(B) at 10 K, and the directions of the nearest-neighbor Co moments are orthogonal each other in the c plane.  相似文献

A new ternary ruthenium oxide Na(2)RuO(4) was prepared and shown to crystallize with a new structure type. Single crystal X-ray diffraction measurements reveal that Na(2)RuO(4) consists of RuO(4) chains made up of RuO(5) trigonal bipyramids by sharing axial corners. Na(2)RuO(4) is a magnetic semiconductor with a variable range hopping behavior, and its molar magnetic susceptibility chi(mol) has a broad maximum at approximately 74 K. The derivative d(chi(mol).T)/dT exhibits a peak at 37.7 K which has been confirmed by heat capacity measurement to be due to long-range antiferromagnetic ordering.  相似文献

Reported here are the synthesis and structural and topological analysis as well as a magnetic investigation of the new Co(4)(OH)(2)(C(10)H(16)O(4))(3) metal-organic framework. The structural analysis reveals a one-dimensional inorganic subnetwork based on complex chains of cobalt(II) ions in two different oxygen environments. Long alkane dioic acid molecules bridge these inorganic chains together to afford large distances and poor magnetic media between dense spin chains. The thermal dependence of the χT product provides evidence for uncompensated antiferromagnetic interactions within the cobaltous chains. In zero-field, dynamic magnetic susceptibility measurements show slow magnetic relaxation below 5.4 K while both neutron diffraction and heat capacity measurements give evidence of long-range order (LRO) below this temperature. The slow dynamics may originate from the motion of broad domain walls and is characterized by an Arrhenius law with a single energy barrier Δ(τ)/k(B) = 67(1) K for the [10-5000 Hz] frequency range. Moreover, in nonzero dc fields the ac susceptibility signal splits into a low-temperature frequency-dependent peak and a high-temperature frequency-independent peak which strongly shifts to higher temperature upon increasing the bias dc field. Heat capacity measurements have been carried out for various applied field values, and the recorded C(P)(T) data are used for the calculation of the thermal variations of both the adiabatic temperature change ΔT(ad) and magnetic entropy change ΔS(m). The deduced data show a modest magnetocaloric effect at low temperature. Its maximum moves up to higher temperature upon increasing the field variation, in relation with the field-sensibility of the intrachain magnetic correlation length.  相似文献

A new magnetic metal organic framework material has been synthesized, Mn3(C8O4H4)3(C5H11ON)2, 1. Magnetic susceptibility measurements from 2 to 400 K reveal anti-ferromagnetic ordering at approximately 4 K and a total magnetic moment of 6.0 micro(B). The magnetic phase transition is confirmed by heat capacity data (2-300 K). The crystal structure is studied by conventional single-crystal X-ray diffraction data at 300, 275, 250, 225, 200, 175, 150, 125, and 100 K, and synchrotron data at 20 K. There is a phase transition between 100 and 20 K due to ordering of the diethylformamide molecules. The X-ray charge density is determined based on multipole modeling of a second 20 K single-crystal synchrotron radiation data set. The electron distributions around the two unique Mn centers are different, and both have substantial anisotropy. Orbital population analysis reveals large electron donation (1.7 e) to each Mn atom and the maximum possible number of unpaired electrons is 3.2 for both Mn sites. Thus, there is a considerable orbital component to the magnetic moment. Bader topological analysis shows an absence of Mn-Mn bonding, and the magnetic ordering is via super-exchange through the oxygen bridges. Formal electron counting suggests Mn2+ sites, but this is not supported by the Bader atomic charges, Mn1 = +0.11 e, Mn2 = +0.17 e. The topological measures show the dominant metal-ligand interactions to be electrostatic, and a simple exponential correlation is derived between Mn-O bond lengths and the values of nabla2rho at the bond critical points.  相似文献

Magnetic properties of quaternary oxides Ba3MRu2O9 (M=Y, In, La, Sm, Eu, and Lu) are reported. Rietveld analyses of the X-ray diffraction data indicate that they adopt the 6H-perovskite structure and have the valence state of Ba3M3+ Ru4.5+2O9. All compounds are nonmetallic at least over the temperature range of 100-400 K. The magnetic susceptibilities show a broad maximum at 135-370 K except for the La compound, which shows a plateau around 22 K. In addition, another magnetic anomaly is observed at 4.5-12.5 K by the magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements for any compound. It is considered that this magnetic behavior is ascribed to the antiferromagnetic coupling between two Ru ions in a Ru2O9 dimer and to the magnetic interaction between the Ru2O9 dimers.  相似文献

A new nickel polyborate, NiB12O14(OH)10 was synthesized using boric acid as a flux. This material has two-dimensional borate layers with a quasi-square lattice of Ni2+. The Ni2+ ions locate in the plane of the two-dimensional layer, bridged through BnO(n+1) chains in the plane and connected with the three-membered ring borate groups out of the plane. The dc and ac magnetic susceptibility, magnetization and specific heat measurements show that this material undergoes a weak ferromagnetic phase transition at Tc = 5.8 K. At T < Tc, a metamagnetic phase transition is observed at about 5 T, associated by a spin-flop, suggesting the ferromagnetic ordering is induced by an antiferromagnetic interaction. A broad maximum in the ac susceptibility at TM = 23-24 K indicates an intermediate short-range ordering.  相似文献

The mixed-anion coordination polymer Cu(HCO2)(NO3)(pyz) was synthesized, its crystal structure was determined by X-ray diffraction, and its magnetic structure was characterized by ac susceptibility, dc magnetization, muon-spin relaxation, and spin dimer analysis. The crystal structure consists of five-coordinate Cu2+ ions that are connected through syn-anti bridging mu-HCO2- and mu-pyz ligands to form a highly corrugated two-dimensional layered network. Bulk magnetic measurements show a broad maximum in chi(T) at 6.6 K. The HCO2- and pyz ligands mediate ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic spin exchange interactions between adjacent Cu2+ ions with the spin exchange parameters J/kB = 8.17 and -5.4 K, respectively (H = -JSigmaSi x Sj). The muon-spin relaxation data show a transition to a long-range magnetic ordering below TN = 3.66(3) K. For T < TN, the M(H) and chi'ac measurements provide evidence for a field-induced spin-flop transition at 15.2 kOe. That Cu(HCO2)(NO3)(pyz) undergoes a long-range magnetic ordering is an unexpected result because the one-dimensional Cu(NO3)2(pyz) and three-dimensional Cu(HCO2)2(pyz) compounds display linear chain antiferromagnetism with no long-range magnetic ordering down to 2 K.  相似文献

Two stable supramolecular microporous cobalt(II) polymers, namely [Co(HAIP)2]n.3nH2O (1) and [Co(AIP)(H2O)]n (2), AIP = 5-aminoisophthalate, were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectra, thermogravimetric analyses, and variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements. The two complexes are constructed from the same Co2(CO2)2 SBU, which is extended into a 1D chain in 1 and a 2D layer in 2. As a result, 1 and 2 are 2D and 3D coordination polymers, respectively. The 3D supramolecular network of complex 1 is held up by strong hydrogen bonds formed between carboxylate groups and shows very high stability when the free H2O molecules are removed, indicating an extraordinarily stable H-bonding system. Upon water ligands being liberated, complex 2 becomes a stable microporous solid with coordination-unsaturated Co centers. The behavior of the susceptibility curve of 1 suggests the occurrence of an interesting intrachain antiferromagnetic coupling between the Co(II) ions and the presence of a significant orbital contribution, whereas the features of 2 indicate an antiferromagnetic coupling with T(N) = 3.5 K and a long-range antiferromagnetic order with a field-induced magnetic transition.  相似文献

Synthesis, crystal structures and magnetic studies are reported for four new heterometallic Cu(II)-Ln(III) clusters. The reaction of Cu(NO(3))(2)·3H(2)O with triethanolamine (teaH(3)), pivalic acid, triethylamine and Ln(NO(3))(3)·6H(2)O (Ln=Gd, Tb, Dy and Ho) results in the formation of four isostructural nonanuclear complexes of general formula [Cu(II)(5)Ln(III)(4)O(2)(teaH)(4){O(2)CC(CH(3))(3)}(2)(NO(3))(4)(OMe)(4)]·2MeOH·2Et(2)O [Ln=Gd (1), Tb (2), Dy (3) and Ho (4)]. The metal core of each cluster is made up of four face- and vertex-sharing tetrahedral units. Solid-state DC magnetic susceptibility studies reveal competing anti- and ferromagnetic interactions within each cluster leading to large-spin ground states for 1-4. Solid-state AC magnetic susceptibility studies show frequency-dependent out-of-phase (χ'(M)) signals for 2-4 below 4 K, suggestive of single-molecule magnet behaviour. Ab initio calculations on one of the anisotropic examples (3) provided a rare set of J values for Dy-Cu and Cu-Cu exchange interactions (Dy-Dy zero), some ferro- and some antiferromagnetic in character, that explain its magnetic behaviour.  相似文献
