The coefficient of friction is measured during relative oscillation between sliding surfaces. Measurements are made during regular oscillations in which the excitation has a modulated amplitude, and during chaotic oscillations in which the excitation amplitude is fixed. The friction force is measured for paper on paper, and titanium on titanium. A friction law is derived based on observations from the measurements. This friction law is applied to a simulation model of an experimental forced oscillator. The simulated and experimental oscillators have similar qualitative dynamical features in the phase space.  相似文献

Analytical approximations for stick-slip vibration amplitudes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The classical “mass-on-moving-belt” model for describing friction-induced vibrations is considered, with a friction law describing friction forces that first decreases and then increases smoothly with relative interface speed. Approximate analytical expressions are derived for the conditions, the amplitudes, and the base frequencies of friction-induced stick-slip and pure-slip oscillations. For stick-slip oscillations, this is accomplished by using perturbation analysis for the finite time interval of the stick phase, which is linked to the subsequent slip phase through conditions of continuity and periodicity. The results are illustrated and tested by time-series, phase plots and amplitude response diagrams, which compare very favorably with results obtained by numerical simulation of the equation of motion, as long as the difference in static and kinetic friction is not too large.  相似文献

Treated is the dynamics of a gravity stonewall. The wall is excited by a transient damped periodic oscillation simulating an earthquake. The model adopts a stick-slip friction constitutive law. Sensitivity of energy dissipation to parameters such as number of blocks, friction coefficient, sticktion and slipping stiffness and excitation amplitude and frequency is determined. A 2-D model of the monolithic wall is also analyzed to compare displacement and shear stress of the two constructions.  相似文献

The nonlinear oscillations of a controlled suspended elastic cable under in-plane excitation are considered. Active control realized by longitudinal displacement of one support is introduced in order to reduce the transverse in-plane and out-of-plane vibrations. Linear and quadratic enhanced velocity feedback control laws are chosen and their effects on the cable motion are investigated using a two degree-of-freedom model. Perturbation analysis is performed to determine the in-plane steady-state solutions and their stability under an out-of-plane disturbance. The analysis is extended to the bifurcated two-mode steady-state oscillations in the region of parametric excitation. The dependence of the control effectiveness on the system parameters is investigated in the case of the first symmetric mode and the range of oscillation amplitudes in which the proposed control ensures a dissipation of energy is determined. Although control based only on in-plane response quantities is effective in reducing oscillations with a prevailing in-plane component, addition of out-of-plane measures has to be considered when the motion is characterized by two comparable components.  相似文献

The present paper reports some interesting phenomena observed in the nonlinear dynamics of two self-excitedly coupled harmonic oscillators. The system under consideration consists of two mechanical oscillators coupled by the Rayleigh type self-exciting force. Both autonomous and nonautonomous cases for weakly coupled systems are analyzed. When the natural frequencies of the two oscillators are close to each other, only one mode of oscillation exists. As two modes of oscillations get locked to a single mode, the system is said to be in a mode-locked condition. Under a mode-locked condition, the oscillators can oscillate with only a single frequency. However, when two oscillators are sufficiently detuned, the mode-locking condition does not persist and two distinct modes of oscillations emerge. Under these circumstances, particularly when detuning is large, one of the oscillators, depending on the initial conditions, oscillates with much larger amplitude as compared to the other oscillator, and hence mode localization is observed. When one of the oscillators is subject to a harmonic excitation, at two different frequencies, termed here as the decoupling frequencies, the coupling between the oscillators is almost lost, resulting in almost zero response of the unexcited oscillator. Analytical and numerical results are presented to analyze the above mentioned phenomena. Some potential applications of the aforesaid phenomena are also discussed.  相似文献

Nonlinear motions of a rotary drilling mechanism are considered, and a two degree-of-freedom model is developed to study the coupled axial-torsional dynamics of this system. In the model development, state-dependent time delay and nonlinearities that arise due to dry friction and loss of contact are considered. Stability analysis is carried out by using a semi-discretization scheme, and the results are presented in terms of stability volumes in the three-dimensional parameter space of spin speed, cutting depth, and a cutting coefficient. These stability volume plots can serve as a guide for choosing parameters for rotary drilling operations. A control strategy based on state and delayed-state feedback is presented with the goal of enlargening the stability region, and the effectiveness of this strategy to suppress stick-slip oscillations is illustrated.  相似文献

This paper, using Karnopp's model of friction force and phase plane method, studies the stick-slip motion of the flexble drive mechanism. It is explained that a sudden drop of friction force is the essential source of stick-slip motion when the sliding is impending. A new criterion for occurrence of stick-slip motion is established. The stick-slip region and the stable region in a parameter plane are separated by a critical parameter curve. Moreover, for the stick-slip motion of the flexible drive mechanism without viscous damping, a parameter expression is obtained. The results may be used in design of the flexible drive mechanism.  相似文献

This paper investigates the behavior of a non-linear mechanical model where a block is driven by an oscillating ground through Coulomb friction, a linear viscous damper and a linear spring. The governing equation is solved analytically for different partial configurations: friction only, friction with viscous damping, friction with a linear restoring force, and for the complete model. Using dimensionless groups, the analysis of the block motion provides a comprehensive set of information on the motion regime (stick, stick-slip or permanent sliding), on the dominant energies or forces, on the resonance and on the amplification of the ground oscillation by the system. The limit between the stick-slip regime and the permanent slipping regime is found either analytically or numerically. It is also shown that there exists a set of parameters for which the friction force, the viscous dissipative force and the elastic restoring force are equal.  相似文献

Summary Friction-induced self-sustained oscillations, also known as stick-slip vibrations, occur in mechanical systems as well as in everyday life. On the basis of a one-dimensional map, the bifurcation behaviour including unstable branches is investigated for a friction oscillator with simultaneous self-and external excitation. The chosen way of mapping also allows a simple determination of Lyapunov exponents.Dedicated to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr.-Ing. E.h. Dr. h.c. mult. Erwin Stein on the occasion of his 65th birthday.

The dynamics of non-smooth oscillators has not yet sufficiently been investigated, when damping is simultaneously due to friction and impact. Because of the theoretical and practical interest of this type of systems, an effort is made in this paper to lighten the behaviour of a single-degree-of-freedom oscillator colliding with an obstacle and excited by a moving base, which transfers energy to the system via friction. The different nature of discontinuities arising in the combined problem of friction and impact has been recognized and discussed. Closed-form solutions are presented for both transient and steady-state response, assuming Coulomb's friction law and a rigid stop-limiting motion. Furthermore, a deformable (hysteretic) obstacle has been considered, and its influence on the response has been investigated.  相似文献

We introduce a method for tracking nonlinear oscillations and their bifurcations in nonlinear dynamical systems. Our method does not require a mathematical model of the dynamical system nor the ability to set its initial conditions. Instead it relies on feedback stabilizability, which makes the approach applicable in an experiment. This is demonstrated with a proof-of-concept computer experiment of the classical autonomous dry-friction oscillator, where we use a fixed time step simulation and include noise to mimic experimental limitations. For this system we track in one parameter a family of unstable nonlinear oscillations that forms the boundary between the basins of attraction of a stable equilibrium and a stable stick-slip oscillation. Furthermore, we track in two parameters the curves of Hopf bifurcation and grazing-sliding bifurcation that form the boundary of the bistability region. The frequency lock-in during the nonlinear vibration of a turbomachinery blade is modeled using a spring-mounted airfoil coupled with a van der Pol Oscillator (VDP) oscillator. The proposed reduced-order model uses the nonlinear VDP oscillator to represent the oscillatory nature of wake dynamics caused by the vortex shedding. The damping term in the VDP oscillator is assumed to be nonlinear. The coupled equations governing the pitch and plunge motion of an airfoil are used to approximate the vibration of a turbomachinery blade. Springs having cubic-order nonlinearity for their stiffnesses are used to mount the airfoil. The unsteady lift acting on the blade is modeled using a self-excited nonlinear wake oscillator. The model for wake dynamics takes into account the influence of blade inertia. The nonlinear coupled three degrees of freedom (dof) aeroelastic system is studied for instability resulting in the frequency lock-in phenomenon. The equations are transformed into non-dimensional form, and then the frequencies of the coupled system are plotted to demonstrate the frequency lock-in. Further, the method of multiple scales is used to derive modulation equations which represent the amplitude and phase of the oscillation. The results obtained using the method of multiple scales are compared with direct numerical solutions to verify the present modeling method. The steady-state amplitudes of the response are plotted against the detuning parameter, which represents the frequency response curve. Further, the sensitivity of non-dimensional parameters such as coupling coefficients, mass ratio, reduced velocity, static unbalance, structural damping coefficient and the ratio of uncoupled pitch and plunge natural frequencies on the frequency response is investigated. The study revealed that parameters such as mass ratio, reduced velocity, structural damping coefficient, and coupling coefficients have a stronger influence in suppressing the amplitude of vibration. Meanwhile, parameters such as the frequency ratio, static unbalance, reduced velocity, and mass ratio significantly affect the range of frequency in which the lock-in phenomenon happens. Further, linear perturbation analysis is done to understand the qualitative effect of the system parameters such as coupling coefficients, mass ratio, frequency ratio, and static unbalance on the range of lock-in.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the brake creep-groan problem by formulating the issues in terms of two dynamic sub-systems that are coupled at the friction interface, and thus, experience stick-slip motions. Thorough examination of the nature of discontinuous solutions using numerical methods is a useful prelude to analytical studies. We examine such dynamics through parametric studies for magnitude and rate of brake release, where the vehicle is initially at rest and under low constant drive torque. Dependency on the initial conditions and solution flow before reaching the orbit will thus be illustrated. Four types of motions (one steady sliding and three stick-slip) are found based on extensive studies. Our formulation and analysis should lead to a better understanding of the brake groan phenomenon and systems coupled by interfacial friction.  相似文献

A new sliding-mode triboelectric energy harvester in the form of a cantilever beam with a tip mass that is acted upon by both magnetic and friction forces is modelled and simulated. A numerical scheme based on the trapezoidal rule with the second-order backward difference formula (TR-BDF2) method is introduced to solve the combined non-smooth mechanical and stiff electrical system. This is the first study of the structural dynamics of the sliding-mode triboelectric energy harvesting; additionally, a magnetic field that induces multistability is present. A comparison between the coupled and uncoupled electromechanical models suggests that the electrostatic force between the electrodes can be ignored, which makes the uncoupled model preferable in the dynamical analysis. The influence of the non-conservative force (the friction force) on the multistability of the system is investigated. It is found that the distribution of the multistability on the parametric plane changes even when a small amount of friction is involved, and the areas of bistability and tristability shrink while that of the monostability expands. A comparison among these three types of stability reveals the superiority of invoking bistability as it facilitates broadband energy harvesting. The excitation level plays an important role in inducing the snap-through motion (the interwell oscillation) by enabling the crossing of the energy barriers between wells. The increase in the friction shrinks the frequency band of interwell oscillations from high frequencies down to low frequencies on the discrete frequency sweep. An analysis of the basins of attraction finds that at low frequencies the bistable system can undergo only interwell oscillations, while the tristable system can merely experience intrawell oscillations. The basins can intermingle with each other in both bistable and tristable systems. Finally, an increase in the excitation level can break the basins into discrete pieces and/or points.

Nonlinear behaviors are investigated for a structure coupled with a nonlinear energy sink. The structure is linear and subject to a harmonic excitation, modeled as a forced single-degree-of-freedom oscillator. The nonlinear energy sink is modeled as an oscillator consisting of a mass,a nonlinear spring, and a linear damper. Based on the numerical solutions, global bifurcation diagrams are presented to reveal the coexistence of periodic and chaotic motions for varying nonlinear energy sink mass and stiffness. Chaos is numerically identified via phase trajectories, power spectra, and Poincaré maps. Amplitude-frequency response curves are predicted by the method of harmonic balance for periodic steady-state responses. Their stabilities are analyzed. The Hopf bifurcation and the saddle-node bifurcation are determined. The investigation demonstrates that a nonlinear energy sink may create dynamic complexity.  相似文献

We study the dynamic interactions between traveling waves propagating in a linear lattice and a lightweight, essentially nonlinear and damped local attachment. Correct to leading order, we reduce the dynamics to a strongly nonlinear damped oscillator forced by two harmonic terms. One of the excitation frequencies is characteristic of the traveling wave that impedes to the attachment, whereas the other accounts for local lattice dynamics. These two frequencies are energy-independent; a third energy-dependent frequency is present in the problem, characterizing the nonlinear oscillation of the attachment when forced by the traveling wave. We study this three-frequency strongly nonlinear problem through slow-fast partitions of the dynamics and resort to action-angle coordinates and Melnikov analysis. For damping below a critical threshold, we prove the existence of relaxation oscillations of the attachment; these oscillations are associated with enhanced targeted energy transfer from the traveling wave to the attachment. Moreover, in the limit of weak or no damping, we prove the existence of subharmonic oscillations of arbitrarily large periods, and of chaotic motions. The analytical results are supported by numerical simulations of the reduced order model.  相似文献

We consider two coupled oscillators with negative Duffing type stiffness which are self (due to friction) and externally (harmonically) excited. The fundamental solutions of the homoclinic orbit are constructed. Then, the Melnikov–Gruendler approach is used to define the Melnikov’s function including smooth and stick-slip chaotic behaviour. Theoretical considerations are supported by numerical examples.  相似文献

A flow visualisation study was performed to investigate a periodic flow instability in a bifurcating duct within the tip of the flares at the Shell refinery in Clyde, NSW, to verify the trigger of a combustion-driven oscillation proposed in Part A of this study, and to identify its features. The model study assessed only the flow instability, uncoupled from the acoustic resonance and the combustion that are also present in the actual flare. Three strong, coupled flow oscillations were found to be present in three regions of the fuel line in the flare tip model. A periodic flow separation was found to occur within the contraction at the inlet to the tip, a coupled, periodic flow oscillation was found in the two transverse “cross-over ducts” from the central pipe to the outer annulus and an oscillating flow recirculation was present in the “end-cap” region of the central pipe. The dimensionless frequency of these oscillations in the model was found to match that measured in the full-scale plant for high fuel flow rates. This, and the strength of these flow oscillations, gives confidence that they are integral to the full-scale combustion-driven oscillation and most likely the primary trigger. The evidence indicates that the periodic flow instability is initiated by the separation and roll-up of the annular boundary layer at the start of the contraction in the fuel section of the flare tip. The separation generates an annular vortex which interacts with the blind-ended pipe downstream, leading to a pressure wave which propagates back upstream, initiating the next separation event and repeating the cycle. The study also investigated flow control devices with a view to finding a practical approach to mitigate the oscillations. The shape of these devices was constrained to allow installation without removing the tip of the flare. This aspect of the study highlighted the strength and nature of the coupled oscillation, since it proved to be very difficult to mitigate the oscillation in this way. An effective configuration is presented, comprising of three individual components, all three of which were found to be necessary to eliminate the oscillation completely.  相似文献

A vibration-based bistable electromagnetic energy harvester coupled to a directly excited primary system is examined numerically. The primary goal of the study is to investigate the potential benefit of the bistable element for harvesting broadband and low-amplitude vibration energy. The considered system consists of a grounded, weakly damped, linear oscillator (LO) coupled to a light-weight, weakly damped oscillator by means of an element which provides both cubic nonlinear and negative linear stiffness components and electromechanical coupling elements. Single and repeated impulses with varying amplitude applied to the LO are the vibration energy sources considered. A thorough sensitivity analysis of the system's key parameters provides design insights for a bistable nonlinear energy harvesting (BNEH) device able to achieve robust harvesting efficiency. This is achieved through the exploitation of three BNEH main dynamical regimes; namely, periodic cross-well, aperiodic (chaotic) cross-well, and in-well oscillations.  相似文献
