The flat rank of a totally disconnected locally compact group G, denoted flat-rk(G), is an invariant of the topological group structure of G. It is defined thanks to a natural distance on the space of compact open subgroups of G. For a topological Kac-Moody group G with Weyl group W, we derive the inequalities alg-rk(W) ≤ flat-rk(G) ≤ rk(|W|0). Here, alg-rk(W) is the maximal Z-rank of abelian subgroups of W, and rk(|W|0) is the maximal dimension of isometrically embedded flats in the CAT0-realization |W|0. We can prove these inequalities under weaker assumptions. We also show that for any integer n ≥ 1 there is a simple, compactly generated, locally compact, totally disconnected group G, with flat-rk(G) = n and which is not linear.  相似文献

Let G be a locally compact abelian group with compact open subgroup H. The best known example of such a group is G = ℚp, the field of padic rational numbers (as a group under addition), which has compact open subgroup H = ℤp, the ring of padic integers. Classical wavelet theories, which require a non trivial discrete subgroup for translations, do not apply to G, which may not have such a subgroup. A wavelet theory is developed on G using coset representatives of the discrete quotient Ĝ/H to circumvent this limitation. Wavelet bases are constructed by means of an iterative method giving rise to socalled wavelet sets in the dual group Ĝ. Although the Haar and Shannon wavelets are naturally antipodal in the Euclidean setting, it is observed that their analogues for G are equivalent.  相似文献

For a locally compact group G, the measure convolution algebra M(G) carries a natural coproduct. In previous work, we showed that the canonical predual C 0(G) of M(G) is the unique predual which makes both the product and the coproduct on M(G) weak*-continuous. Given a discrete semigroup S, the convolution algebra 1(S) also carries a coproduct. In this paper we examine preduals for 1(S) making both the product and the coproduct weak*-continuous. Under certain conditions on S, we show that 1(S) has a unique such predual. Such S include the free semigroup on finitely many generators. In general, however, this need not be the case even for quite simple semigroups and we construct uncountably many such preduals on 1(S) when S is either ℤ+×ℤ or (ℕ,⋅).  相似文献

In this article we study cocycles of discrete countable groups with values in 2 G and the ring of affiliated operators UG\mathcal{U}G. We clarify properties of the first cohomology of a group G with coefficients in 2 G and answer several questions from De Cornulier et al. (Transform. Groups 13(1):125–147, 2008). Moreover, we obtain strong results about the existence of free subgroups and the subgroup structure, provided the group has a positive first 2-Betti number. We give numerous applications and examples of groups which satisfy our assumptions.  相似文献

LetQ be a subgroup of the locally compact groupG. Q is called a topologically quasinormal subgroup ofG, ifQ is closed and for each closed subgroupA ofG. We prove: If the compact elements ofG form a proper subgroup, compact topologically quasinormal subgroups ofG are subnormal of defect 2. IfG is connected, compact topologically quasinormal subgroups ofG are normal. IfG/G 0 is compact, connected topologically quasinormal subgroups ofG are normal.  相似文献

Given a locally compact group G, let J(G){\cal J}(G) denote the set of closed left ideals in L 1(G), of the form J μ = [L1(G) * (δ e − μ)], where μ is a probability measure on G. Let Jd(G)={\cal J}_d(G)= {Jm;m is discrete}\{J_{\mu};\mu\ {\rm is discrete}\} , Ja(G)={Jm;m is absolutely continuous}{\cal J}_a(G)=\{J_{\mu};\mu\ {\rm is absolutely continuous}\} . When G is a second countable [SIN] group, we prove that J(G)=Jd(G){\cal J}(G)={\cal J}_d(G) and that Ja(G){\cal J}_a(G) , being a proper subset of J(G){\cal J}(G) when G is nondiscrete, contains every maximal element of J(G){\cal J}(G) . Some results concerning the ideals J μ in general locally compact second countable groups are also obtained.  相似文献

It is shown that the limit μ of a commutative infinitesimal triangular system Δ on a totally disconnected locally compact groupG is embeddable in a continuous one-parameter convolution semigroup if either (1)G is a compact extension of a closed solvable normal subgroup or (2)G is discrete and Δ is normal or (3)G is a discrete linear group over a field of characteristic zero. For a special triangular system of convolution powers , the above is shown to hold without any of the conditions (1)–(3). For a general locally compact groupG necessary conditions are obtained for the embeddability of a shift of limit μ of Δ; in particular, the conditions are trivially satisfied whenG is abelian. Also, the embedding of a limit of a symmetric system onG is shown to hold under condition (1) as above.  相似文献

A finitely presented group G is hyperbolic iff H (1) 1(G,ℝ)=0=(1) 2(G, ℝ), where H (1) * (resp. (1) *) denotes the ℓ1-homology (resp. reduced ℓ1-homology). If Γ is a graph, then every ℓ1 1-cycle in Γ with real coefficients can be approximated by 1-cycles of compact support. A 1-relator group G is hyperbolic iff H (1) 1(G,ℝ)=0. Let q be a power of 2 greater than 2 and consider the group G = PSL2(q). We choose the maximal subgroups of G isomorphic to the dihedral groups D2(q+1) and D2(q-1) and present the primitive action of G on the right cosets of these two subgroups. We will find the orbits of the point stabilizer in each case and in the case of D2(q-1) we will prove there is an orbit Δ of the point stabilizer Gω, such that Δ ≠ {ω } and whose orbiting under G gives a 1-design with the automorphism group isomorphic to the symmetric group   相似文献

A Planar graph g is called a ipseudo outerplanar graph if there is a subset v.∈V(G),[V.]=i,such that G-V. is an outerplanar graph in particular when G-V.is a forest ,g is called a i-pseudo-tree .in this paper.the following results are proved;(1)the conjecture on the total coloring is true for all 1-pseudo-outerplanar graphs;(2)X1(G) 1 fo any 1-pseudo outerplanar graph g with △(G)≥3,where x4(G)is the total chromatic number of a graph g.  相似文献

This paper considers metrics valued in abelian -groups and their induced topologies. In addition to a metric into an -group, one needs a filter in the positive cone to determine which balls are neighborhoods of their center. As a key special case, we discuss a topology on a lattice ordered abelian group from the metric d G and the positive filter consisting of the weak units of G; in the case of \mathbb Rn{\mathbb R^{n}} , this is the Euclidean topology. We also show that there are many Nachbin convex topologies on an -group which are not induced by any positive filter of the -group.  相似文献

The purpose of this note is to describe some algebraic conditions on a Banach algebra which force it to be finite dimensional. One of the main results in Theorem 2 which states that for a locally compact groupG, G is compact if there exists a measure μ in Soc(L 1(G)) such that μ(G) ≠ 0. We also prove thatG is finite if Soc(M(G)) is closed and every nonzero left ideal inM(G) contains a minimal left ideal.  相似文献

Alinear forest is a forest in which each connected component is a path. Thelinear arboricity la(G) of a graphG is the minimum number of linear forests whose union is the set of all edges ofG. Thelinear arboricity conjecture asserts that for every simple graphG with maximum degree Δ=Δ(G), . Although this conjecture received a considerable amount of attention, it has been proved only for Δ≦6, Δ=8 and Δ=10, and the best known general upper bound for la(G) is la(G)≦⌈3Δ/5⌉ for even Δ and la(G)≦⌈(3Δ+2)/5⌉ for odd Δ. Here we prove that for everyɛ>0 there is a Δ00(ɛ) so that la(G)≦(1/2+ɛ)Δ for everyG with maximum degree Δ≧Δ0. To do this, we first prove the conjecture for everyG with an even maximum degree Δ and withgirth g≧50Δ. We create a method which allows an arbitrary group G with an infrainvariant system ℒ(G) of subgroups to be embedded in a group G* with an infrainvariant system ℒ(G*) of subgroups, so that G α*G ∈ ℒ(G) for every subgroup G α*G ∈ ℒ(G*) and each factor B/A of a jump of subgroups in ℒ(G*) is isomorphic to a factor of a jump in ℒ(G), or to any specified group H. Using this method, we state new results on right-ordered groups. In particular, it is proved that every Conrad right-ordered group is embedded with preservation of order in a Conrad right-ordered group of Hahn type (i.e., a right-ordered group whose factors of jumps of convex subgroups are order isomorphic to the additive group ℝ); every right-ordered Smirnov group is embedded in a right-ordered Smirnov group of Hahn type; a new proof is given for the Holland–McCleary theorem on embedding every linearly ordered group in a linearly ordered group of Hahn type.  相似文献

For a compactly generated LCA group G, it is shown that the setH(G) of all generalized characters on G equipped with the compact-open topology is a LCA group andH(G) = Ĝ (the dual group ofG) if and only ifG is compact. Both results fail for arbitrary LCA groups. Further, ifG is second countable, then the Gel’fand space of the commutative convolution algebraC c (G) equipped with the inductive limit topology is topologically homeomorphic toH(G).  相似文献

In this noteG is a locally compact group which is the product of finitely many groups Gs(ks)(s∈S), where ks is a local field of characteristic zero and Gs an absolutely almost simplek s-group, ofk s-rank ≥1. We assume that the sum of the rs is ≥2 and fix a Haar measure onG. Then, given a constantc > 0, it is shown that, up to conjugacy,G contains only finitely many irreducible discrete subgroupsL of covolume ≥c (4.2). This generalizes a theorem of H C Wang for real groups. His argument extends to the present case, once it is shown thatL is finitely presented (2.4) and locally rigid (3.2).  相似文献

Let E be a row-finite directed graph, let G be a locally compact abelian group with dual group Ĝ = Γ, let ω be a labeling map from E* to Γ, and let (C*(E), G, α ω ) be the C*-dynamical system defined by ω. Some mappings concerning the AF-embedding construction of C*(E) ×aw GC*(E) \times _{\alpha ^\omega } G are studied in more detail. Several necessary conditions of AF-embedding and some properties of almost proper labeling map are obtained. Moreover it is proved that if E is constructed by attaching some 1-loops to a directed graph T consisting of some rooted directed trees and G is compact, then ω is almost proper, that is a sufficient condition for AF-embedding, if and only if Σ j=1 k wgj 1 1G\omega _{\gamma _j } \ne 1_\Gamma for any loop γ i , γ 2, ..., γ k attached to one path in T.  相似文献

In this paper, we characterize pseudo-contractibility of 1(S), where S is a uniformly locally finite inverse semigroup. As a consequence, we show that for a Brandt semigroup S=M0(G,I),{S={\mathcal{M}}^{0}(G,I),} the semigroup algebra 1(S) is pseudo-contractible if and only if G and I are finite. Moreover, we study the notions of pseudo-amenability and pseudo-contractibility of a semigroup algebra 1(S) in terms of the amenability of S.  相似文献
