We continue our program to establish the Higgs mechanism and mass gap for the abelian Higgs model in two and three dimensions. We develop a multiscale cluster expansion for the high frequency modes of the theory, within a framework of iterated renormalization group transformations. The expansions yield decoupling properties needed for a proof of exponential decay of correlations. The result of this analysis is a gauge invariant unit lattice theory with a deep Higgs potential of the shape required to exhibit the Higgs mechanism.Research partially supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant DMS-8602207 and by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research under Grant AFOSR-86-0229Alfred P. We systematize the study of reflection positivity in statistical mechanical models, and thereby two techniques in the theory of phase transitions: the method ofinfrared bounds and the chessboard method of estimating contour probabilities in Peierls arguments. We illustrate the ideas by applying them to models with long range interactions in one and two dimensions. Additional applications are discussed in a second paper.Research partially supported by US National Science Foundation under Grant MPS-75-11864Research partially supported by Canadian National Research Council under Grant A4015Research partially supported by US National Science Foundation under Grant MCS-75-21684-A01  相似文献

The structure of the constraint set in the Yang-Mills-Dirac theory in a contractible bounded domain is analysed under the bag boundary conditions. The gauge symmetry group is identified, and it is proved that its action on the phase space is proper and admits slices. The reduced phase space is shown to be the union of symplectic manifolds, each of which corresponds to a definite mode of symmetry breaking.Research partially supported by NSERC Research Grant SAP0008091.Research partially supported by DFG Grant Schw. 485/2-1.Research partially supported by NSERC Research Grant OGP0042416.  相似文献

This paper studies the perturbation of a Lie-Poisson (or, equivalently an Euler-Poincaré) system by a special dissipation term that has Brockett's double bracket form. We show that a formally unstable equilibrium of the unperturbed system becomes a spectrally and hence nonlinearly unstable equilibrium after the perturbation is added. We also investigate the geometry of this dissipation mechanism and its relation to Rayleigh dissipation functions. This work complements our earlier work (Bloch, Krishnaprasad, Marsden and Ratiu [1991, 1994]) in which we studied the corresponding problem for systems with symmetry with the dissipation added to the internal variables; here it is added directly to the group or Lie algebra variables. The mechanisms discussed here include a number of interesting examples of physical interest such as the Landau-Lifschitz equations for ferromagnetism, certain models for dissipative rigid body dynamics and geophysical fluids, and certain relative equilibria in plasma physics and stellar dynamics.Research partially supported by the National Science Foundation PYI grant DMS-91-57556, and AFOSR grant F49620-93-1-0037.Research partially supported by the AFOSR University Research Initiative Program under grants AFOSR-87-0073 and AFOSR-90-0105 and by the National Science Foundation's Engineering Research Centers Program NSFD CDR 8803012.Research partially supported by, DOE contract DE-FG03-92ER-25129, a Fairchild Fellowship at Caltech, and the Fields Institute for Research in the Mathematical Sciences.Research partially supported by NSF Grant DMS 91-42613, DOE contract DE-FG03-92ER-25129, the Fields Institute, the Erwin Schrödinger Institute, and the Miller Institute of the University of California.  相似文献

For neutral atoms and molecules and positive ions and radicals, we prove the existence of solutions of the Hartree-Fock equations which minimize the Hartree-Fock energy. We study families of dependent site percolation models on the triangular lattice and hexagonal lattice that arise by applying certain cellular automata to independent percolation configurations. We analyze the scaling limit of such models and show that the distance between macroscopic portions of cluster boundaries of any two percolation models within one of our families goes to zero almost surely in the scaling limit. It follows that each of these cellular automaton generated dependent percolation models has the same scaling limit (in the sense of Aizenman-Burchard [3]) as independent site percolation on .The work was conducted while this author was at Department of Physics, New York University, New York, NY 10003, USA. We extend the analysis of Paper I from two body dilation analytic systems in constant electric field toN-body systems in constant electric field. Particular attention is paid to what happens to isolated eigenvalues of an atomic or molecular system in zero field when the field is turned on. We prove that the corresponding eigenvalue of the complex scaled Hamiltonian is stable and becomes a resonance. We study analyticity properties of the levels as a function of the field and also Borel summability.Research partially supported by USNSF grant MCS 78-00101Research partially supported by USNSF grant MCS 78-01885  相似文献

Two-Dimensional Critical Percolation: The Full Scaling Limit   总被引:3,自引:1,他引:2
We use SLE 6 paths to construct a process of continuum nonsimple loops in the plane and prove that this process coincides with the full continuum scaling limit of 2D critical site percolation on the triangular lattice – that is, the scaling limit of the set of all interfaces between different clusters. Some properties of the loop process, including conformal invariance, are also proved.Research partially supported by a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship under contract MEIF-CT-2003-500740 and by a Veni grant of the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).Research partially supported by the U.S. NSF under grant DMS-01-04278.  相似文献

Solutions to the classical periodic and non-periodic Toda lattice type Hamiltonian systems are expressed in terms of an Iwasawa-type factorization of a large Lie group. The scattering of these systems is determined in the non-periodic case. For the generalized periodic Toda lattices a generalization of Kostant's formula is obtained using standard representations of affine Lie groups.Research partially supported by NSF Grant MCS 83-01582Research partially supported by NSF Grant MCS 79-03153  相似文献

The geometry of the Teichmüller space of the super Riemann surfaces is examined. The Weil-Petersson Kähler form is calculated in terms of the super coordinate functions which provide local coordinates for the super Teichmüller space. In this paper, we studied the regularity problem for harmonic maps into hyperbolic spaces with prescribed singularities along codimension two submanifolds. This is motivated from one of Hawking's conjectures on the uniqueness of Kerr solutions among all axially symmetric asymptotically flat stationary solutions to the vacuum Einstein equation in general relativity.Research partially supported by a NSF grant DMS-8907849.Research partially supported by a NSF grant  相似文献

We present a method for making rigorous various arguments which predict that certain situations are unstable because of a balance of energy vs. entropy. As applications, we give yet another proof that the two-dimensional plane rotor has no spontaneous magnetization and we make rigorous Thouless' arguments on the one-dimensional Ising model with couplingJ/n 2.on leave from Departments of Mathematics and Physics, Princeton University.
