We determine the general solution of the functional equation f(x + ky) + f(x-ky) = g(x + y) + g(x-y) + h(x) + h(y) for fixed integers with k ≠ 0; ±1 without assuming any regularity conditions for the unknown functions f, g, h, and0020[(h)\tilde] \tilde{h} . The method used for solving these functional equations is elementary but it exploits an important result due to Hosszú. The solution of this functional equation can also be obtained in groups of certain type by using two important results due to Székelyhidi.  相似文献

Numerical solution of a two-dimensional nonlinear singularly perturbed elliptic partial differential equation ∈ Δu = f(x, u), 0 < x, y < 1, with Dirichlet boundary condition is discussed here. The modified Newton method of third-order convergence is employed to linearize the nonlinear problem in place of the standard Newton method. The finite-element method is used to find the solution of the nonlinear differential equation. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the usefulness of the method.  相似文献

In this paper, we review some transport models based on the continuity equation, starting with the so-called Benamou − Brenier formula, which is nothing but a fluid mechanics reformulation of the Monge − Kantorovich problem with cost c(x, y) = |x − y|2. We discuss some of its applications (gradient flows, sharp functional inequalities, etc.), as well as some variants and generalizations to dynamical transport problems, where interaction effects among mass particles are considered. The ternary relations Bs(P){\cal B}_s(P) and Bs(G){\cal B}_s(G) are well-known examples of so-called strict betweennesses. A triangular matrix ring Λ is defined by a triplet (R,S,M) where R and S are rings and R M S is an S-R-bimodule. In the main theorem of this paper we show that if T S is a tilting S-module, then under certain homological conditions on the S-module M S , one can extend T S to a tilting complex over Λ inducing a derived equivalence between Λ and another triangular matrix ring specified by (S′, R, M′), where the ring S′ and the R-S′-bimodule M′ depend only on M and T S , and S′ is derived equivalent to S. Note that no conditions on the ring R are needed. These conditions are satisfied when S is an Artin algebra of finite global dimension and M S is finitely generated. In this case, (S′,R,M′) = (S, R, DM) where D is the duality on the category of finitely generated S-modules. They are also satisfied when S is arbitrary, M S has a finite projective resolution and Ext S n (M S , S) = 0 for all n > 0. In this case, (S′,R,M′) = (S, R, Hom S (M, S)).  相似文献

We prove that a harmonic diffeomorphism between two Jordan domains with C 2 boundaries is a (K, K′) quasiconformal mapping for some constants K ≥ 1 and K′ ≥ 0 if and only if it is Lipschitz continuous. In this setting, if the domain is the unit disk and the mapping is normalized by three boundary points condition we give an explicit Lipschitz constant in terms of simple geometric quantities of the Jordan curve which surrounds the codomain and (K, K′). The results in this paper generalize and extend several recently obtained results.  相似文献

In this work we classify the phase portraits of all quadratic polynomial differential systems having a polynomial first integral. IfH(x, y) is a polynomial of degreen+1 then the differential systemx′=−∂H/∂y,y′=∂H/∂x is called a Hamiltonian system of degreen. We also prove that all the phase portraits that we obtain in this paper are realizable by Hamiltonian systems of degree 2.  相似文献

We prove that there exists a Lipschitz function froml 1 into ℝ2 which is Gateaux-differentiable at every point and such that for everyx, y εl 1, the norm off′(x) −f′(y) is bigger than 1. We consider the problem of nonparametric identification for a multi-dimensional functional autoregression y t = f(y t −1, …,y t−d ) + e t on the basis of N observations of y t . In the case when the unknown nonlinear function f belongs to the Barron class, we propose an estimation algorithm which provides approximations of f with expected L 2 accuracy O(N 1/4ln1/4 N). We also show that this approximation rate cannot be significantly improved. The proposed algorithms are “computationally efficient”– the total number of elementary computations necessary to complete the estimate grows polynomially with N. The real-valued Lambert W-functions considered here are w 0(y) and w  − 1(y), solutions of we w  = y, − 1/e < y < 0, with values respectively in ( − 1,0) and ( − ∞ , − 1). A study is made of the numerical evaluation to high precision of these functions and of the integrals ò1 [-w0(-xe-x)]a x-bx\int_1^\infty [-w_0(-xe^{-x})]^\alpha x^{-\beta}\d x, α > 0, β ∈ ℝ, and ò01 [-w-1(-x e-x)]a x-bx\int_0^1 [-w_{-1}(-x e^{-x})]^\alpha x^{-\beta}\d x, α > − 1, β < 1. Let {ξ(t), tT} be a differentiable (in the mean-square sense) Gaussian random field with E ξ(t) ≡ 0, D ξ(t) ≡ 1, and continuous trajectories defined on the m-dimensional interval T ì \mathbbRm T \subset {\mathbb{R}^m} . The paper is devoted to the problem of large excursions of the random field ξ. In particular, the asymptotic properties of the probability P = P{−v(t) < ξ(t) < u(t), tT}, when, for all tT, u(t), v(t) ⩾ χ, χ → ∞, are investigated. The work is a continuation of Rudzkis research started in [R. Rudzkis, Probabilities of large excursions of empirical processes and fields, Sov. Math., Dokl., 45(1):226–228, 1992]. It is shown that if the random field ξ satisfies certain smoothness and regularity conditions, then P = eQ  + Qo(1), where Q is a certain constructive functional depending on u, v, T, and the matrix function R(t) = cov(ξ′(t), ξ′(t)).  相似文献

Given a poset P = (X, ≺ ), a partition X 1, ..., X k of X is called an ordered partition of P if, whenever x ∈ X i and y ∈ X j with x ≺ y, then i ≤ j. In this paper, we show that for every poset P = (X, ≺ ) and every integer k ≥ 2, there exists an ordered partition of P into k parts such that the total number of comparable pairs within the parts is at most (m − 1)/k, where m ≥ 1 is the total number of edges in the comparability graph of P. We show that this bound is best possible for k = 2, but we give an improved bound, , for k ≥ 3, where c(k) is a constant depending only on k. We also show that, given a poset P = (X, ≺ ) and an integer 2 ≤ k ≤ |X|, we can find an ordered partition of P into k parts that minimises the total number of comparable pairs within parts in time polynomial in the size of P. We explicitly solve the equation Ax n − By n  = ±1 and, along the way, we obtain new results for a collection of equations Ax n − By n  = z m with m ∈ {3, n}, where x, y, z, A, B, and n are unknown nonzero integers such that n ≥ 3, AB = p α q β with nonnegative integers α and β and with primes 2 ≤ p < q < 30. The proofs depend on a combination of several powerful methods, including the modular approach, recent lower bounds for linear forms in logarithms, somewhat involved local considerations, and computational techniques for solving Thue equations of low degree.  相似文献

We describe a new, short proof of some facts relating the gap lengths of the spectrum of a potential q of Hill’s equation, −y′′ + qy = λy, to its regularity. For example, a real potential is in a weighted Gevrey-Sobolev space if and only if its gap lengths, γ n , belong to a similarly weighted sequence space. An extension of this result to complex potentials is proven as well. We also recover Trubowitz results about analytic potentials.
