Numerical simulation of methane-air turbulent jet flame using a new second-order moment model 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A new second-order moment model for turbulent combustion is applied in the simulation of methane-air turbulent jet flame.
The predicted results are compared with the experimental results and with those predicted using the wellknown EBU-Arrhenius
model and the original second-order moment model. The comparison shows the advantage of the new model that it requires almost
the same computational storage and time as that of the original second-order moment model, but its modeling results are in
better agreement with experiments than those using other models. Hence, the new second-order moment model is promising in
modeling turbulent combustion with NOx formation with finite reaction rate for engineering application.

Nylon-6 is an important engineering polymer that, in its fully spherulitic (bulk) form, has many applications in gears, rollers,
and other long life cycle components. In 1993, Toyota commercialized a nylon-6/clay nanocomposite out of which it produced
the timing belt cover for the Camry. Although these hybrid nanocomposites show significant improvements in their mechanical
response characteristics, including yield strength and heat distortion temperature, little is known about the degradation
of these properties due to environmental pollutants like NO
x
. Nylon-6 fibers are severely degraded by interaction with NO
x
and other pollutants, showing a strong synergy between applied load and environmental degradation. While the nanocomposites
show a significant reduction in permeability of gases and water due to the incorporation of lamellar clay, their susceptibility
to nondiffusional mechano-chemical degradation is unknown. The fracture toughness of these nylon-6/clay nanocomposites increases,
not as a function of clay content, but as a function of the volume of nylon-6 polymer chains influenced by the clay lamellae
surfaces. Both the clay and the constrained volume offer the nanocomposites some protection from the deleterious effects of
NO
x
. The time-to-failure at a given stress intensity factor as a function of clay content and constrained volume is discussed
along with fracture toughness of the materials. 相似文献

The effect of swirling flow on the unburned ratio and NO concentration in exhausted gas was studied for slurry [coal-water mixture (CWM)] spray combustion with variations of swirl numbers. A numerical analysis for CWM combustion was performed for axisymmetric flow in a cylindrical geometry. First, to check the performance of three previous k-ε turbulence models modified with swirling flow, velocity components of isothermal swirling jets were measured by laser-Doppler anemometry (LDA) and compared with predicted results. The two modified models gave more reliable results than the conventional one. Next, as the swirl number could not be estimated by the angular momentum derived from the vane angle of the circular swirler, the reduction rate of the tangential momentum flux through the tube of the circular swirler was measured and calculated. Both measured and predicted results showed that when the swirl number S′ given by the vane angle was 2.0, the effective swirl number Seff decreased by about 60% to S′. To take the results mentioned above into consideration, effects of swirl number on both the exhausted NO concentration and unburned ratio were investigated. The predicted unburned ratio showed good agreement with the experimental results. Both experimental and calculated results showed that the optimum operating conditions controlling the exhausted NO concentration and unburned ratio in this spray combustion system were obtained when the swirl number Seff was about 0.5. 相似文献

In a series of recent works, R. Borghi and co-workers proposed a new Eulerian model of two-phase turbulent flows which introduced
a transport equation for the average area of the liquid–gas interface. This work is devoted to the assessment of this model’s
ability to predict the effects of liquid properties and injection regimes on the atomisation quality. Air-assisted atomisation,
for which extensive experimental data are available, is chosen as a test case. It is shown that the model predictions are
in good agreement with the observed trends for a wide range of variations of the liquid properties, such as density and surface
tension, as well as the injection regimes, defined by the liquid and gas jet exit velocities.

A numerical prediction is obtained for the mean pressure field in the similarity region of a plane turbulent jet. An algebraic stress model, which introduces non-isotropic relations for the Reynolds stress components, is used to close the mean momentum equation. The full two-dimensional form of the transport equations is retained and the resultant equation set solved elliptically. The numerical prediction simulates many of the characteristics of the pressure field measured by experimental studies. However, the overall level of the predicted field is lower than the experimental values. The level obtained for the mean pressure field depends strongly on the prediction for the transverse normal Reynolds stress component 〈u2u2〉. The pressure field is shown to represent a small negative contribution to the net strearnwise momentum balance. 相似文献

Large eddy simulations (LESs) are performed to investigate the Cambridge premixed and stratified flames, SwB1 and SwB5, respectively. The flame surface density (FSD) model incorporated with two different wrinkling factor models, i.e., the Muppala and Charlette2 wrinkling factor models, is used to describe combustion/turbulence interaction, and the flamelet generated manifolds (FGM) method is employed to determine major scalars. This coupled sub-grid scale (SGS) combustion model is named as the FSD-FGM model. The FGM method can provide the detailed species in the flame which cannot be obtained from the origin FSD model. The LES results show that the FSD-FGM model has the ability of describing flame propagation, especially for stratified flames. The Charlette2 wrinkling factor model performs better than the Muppala wrinkling factor model in predicting the flame surface area change by the turbulence. The combustion characteristics are analyzed in detail by the flame index and probability distributions of the equivalence ratio and the orientation angle, which confirms that for the investigated stratified flame, the dominant combustion modes in the upstream and downstream regions are the premixed mode and the back-supported mode, respectively. 相似文献

The orientation dependence of the yield stress in Ni3Ge single crystals has been examined both theoretically and experimentally. The positive temperature dependence of the yield stress in the low temperature region is attributed to formation of Kear-Wilsdorf barriers. The forces driving the formation and breakdown of barriers are calculated within the framework of the Hirsch scheme. A distinctive feature of the model proposed is that the barrier is considered on the screw component of the a/2[
01](111) superdislocation in the primary octahedral plane. The major role in barrier formation belongs to anisotropy of elastic moduli, energy of antiphase boundaries in the octahedral plane, shear stresses in the cubic and octahedral planes, and friction-induced stress in the cubic plane. A comparison of predicted values of the driving force of barrier formation and breakdown with experimental values reveals their good agreement. An analysis of the orientation dependence of the driving force of barrier formation in the temperature range T = 77–293 K shows that the dependence

Fully developed incompressible turbulent flow in a conical diffuser having a total divergence angle of 8° and an area ratio
of 4∶1 has been simulated by ak-ε turbulence model with high Reynolds number and adverse pressure gradient. The research has been done for pipe entry Reynolds
numbers of 1.16×105 and 2.93×105. The mean flow velocity and turbulence energy are predicted successfully and the advantage of Boundary Fit Coordinates approach
is discussed. Furthermore, thek-ε turbulence model is applied to a flow in a conical diffuser having a total divergence angle of 30° with a perforated screen.
A simplified mathematical model, where only the pressure drop is considered, has been used for describing the effect of the
perforated screen. The optimum combination of the resistance coefficient and the location of the perforated screen is predicted
