Three new unsymmetrical photochromic diarylethenes bearing a chlorine atom at para-, meta- and ortho-position of one terminal benzene ring, namely {1-(2-methyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)-2-[2-methyl-5-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-thienyl]}perfluorocyclopentene (para 1o), {1-(2-methyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)-2-[2-methyl-5-(3-chlorophenyl)-3-thienyl]}perfluorocyclopentene (meta 2o), and {1-(2-methyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)-2-[2-methyl-5-(2-chlorophenyl) -3-thienyl]}perfluorocyclopentene (ortho 3o), have been synthesized. The substituent position effect on their properties, including photochromism, fluorescence both in solution and in PMMA amorphous film and their electrochemical properties were investigated in detail. The results elucidated that the chlorine atom and its substituent position had a remarkable effect on the absorption characteristics, photochromic reactivity, fluorescence, as well as the electrochemical performances of these diarylethene compounds. For diarylethenes 1, 2 and 3, the cycloreversion quantum yields were gradually increased when the chlorine atom was attached to the para-, meta- and ortho-positions of the one terminal benzene rings; but their molar absorption coefficients both of their open-ring and closed-ring isomers were remarkably decreased. The fluorescent properties of para-substituted diarylethene embedded in poly(methyl methacylate) (PMMA) amorphous film showed good fluorescent switches (quenched to 28%). Furthermore, the cyclic voltammograms experiments elucidated that the electrochemical properties of these diarylethene derivatives were also remarkably dependent on the chlorine atom position effect, which may be attributed to the different electron-inducing ability and steric effect when the chlorine atom was substituted on the different position of the terminal benzene ring.  相似文献

A new series of 16 aramids and 16 polyarylates having perfluoro-substituents on the benzene ring was prepared by a low temperature solution or an interfacial polycondensation. The effects of fluorine substituents on the structure and properties of polymers were examined. Fluorinated aramids exhibited higher crystallinity, while fluorinated polyarylates show lower crystallinity. The melting point (Tm) of aramids decreased with fluorine substitution, whereas Tm of polyarylates from fluorinated aromatic diols was higher than that of those from unfluorinated ones. The temperature of 10% weight loss and the residue at 900°C decreased with fluorine substitution except for the aramids from fluorinated diamines. Solubility and contact angle also increased with fluorine substitution. Some polyarylates were found to exhibit an optical anisotropy.  相似文献

A homologous series of chiral thiolactate liquid crystals, alkyl 2-[4-(4-decyloxyphenyl)benzoyloxyphenyloxy]thiopropionates, ADBPT-n (n=2-6), was prepared from (R)-2-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)propionic acid. Structural effects on the mesomorphic and physical properties were investigated in terms of variation in the length of alkyl chain attached to the thiolactate group. The mesophases and their corresponding transition temperatures were identified by polarizing optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. Compound ADBPT-4 exhibited SmA* and SmC* phases, whereas other compounds in the series exhibited the SmA* phase along with unidentified SmX1* and SmX2* phases. The maximum Ps value measured for ADBPT-4 in the SmC* phase was 17.5 nC cm-2, suggesting the polarization of the material is rather low. The tilt angles were also measured, reaching a maximum of 48 degree.  相似文献

Novel liquid crystals which have the perfluoropyrrolidino group, a heterocyclic perfluoroalkyl group, and which show smectic phases have been synthesized with perfluoro-(2-pyrrolidinopropionyl fluoride) as one of the starting materials. We have synthesized new phenylacetylene-based liquid crystals containing a cyclohexyl or cyclohexylethyl group and evaluated their physical properties in order to develop a range of materials having high value of birefringence. The cyclohexyl-containing compounds exhibited nematic behaviour near room temperature and moderate values of δn of around 0.3. The cyclohexylethyl-containing compounds had a very wide nematic range with a high TNI and very high values of δn of over 0.4. They also exhibited low viscosities. The order parameter was not affected by introducing either a cyclohexyl or a cyclohexylethyl group and the values of δn based on calculated polarizabilities were obtained experimentally.  相似文献

Two homologous series of chiral swallow-tailed thioester materials, 1-ethylpropyl (R)-2-[3-fluoro-4-(4'-alkyloxybiphenylcarbonylthio)phenoxy]propionates, I-6 (m = 8-12), and 1-ethylpropyl (R)-2-[3-methyl-4-(4'-alkyloxybiphenylcarbonylthio)phenoxy]propionates, II-6 (m = 8-12), have been synthesized and their mesomorphic phases studied. The results show that materials I-6 (m = 8-12) with a fluoro substituent, display the phase sequence I-BPII-N*-SmC*-Cr, whereas materials II-6 (m = 8-12) with a methyl substituent display the phase sequence I-N*-TGBA*-SmA*-Cr during cooling. The physical properties of the SmC* phase in materials I-6 were measured. The results show that the maximum P s values are in the range 91-95 nC cm-2 and the maximum tilt angles are about 34-37°.  相似文献

Nine novel sulfate-type hybrid surfactants, CmF2m+1C6H4CH(OSO3Na)CnH2n+1 (FmPHnOS: m=4, 6, 8; n=3, 5, 7; C6H4: p-phenylene), with a benzene ring in their molecules were synthesized. Alkanoyl chlorides were allowed to react with iodobenzene in the presence of aluminum chloride to give the corresponding aromatic ketones. The reaction of the ketones with perfluoroalkyl iodides yielded 1-[4-(perfluoroalkyl)phenyl]-1-alkanones as intermediates. The intermediates were allowed to react with methanol in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of sodium borohydride to yield 1-[4-(perfluoroalkyl)phenyl]-1-alkanols. The desired hybrid surfactants were obtained by the reaction of 1-[4-(perfluoroalkyl)phenyl-1-alkanols with sulfur trioxide/pyridine complex in pyridine and by the subsequent neutralization of the products with sodium hydroxide solution. When compared with the conventional hybrid surfactants, CmF2m+1C6H4COCH(SO3Na)CnH2n+1 (FmHnS: m=4, 6; n=2, 4, 6; C6H4: p-phenylene), the new hybrid surfactants thus synthesized were found to have a comparable ability to lower the surface tension of water and a high hydrophilicity. The cmc of FmPHnOS obeyed Kleven’s rule and their occupied areas per molecule increased with increasing m and n with the values between 0.66 and 1.05 nm2. The aggregation number for FmPHnOS micelles ranged from 6 to 45 and the hydrodynamic radius of the micelles was in the range of 1.4-3.1 nm.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Liquid crystals with 4-pyridyl end group containing one triple bond and phenylenes have been synthesised. Their structures were confirmed by traditional spectroscopic methods. The properties were measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarising optical microscopy (POM), Abbe refractometer and an electrical constants instrument. The results show that all of the compounds exhibit nematic phase. The addition of a phenylene to the molecular skeleton brings about an obvious increase of the mesophase intervals (from 8.8 to 95.5) and birefringence (up to 0.33), as well as minus or plus effect of dielectric anisotropies depending on the position of the phenylene. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations of molecular conformation, polarisability and dipole moment were used to further study the molecular structure–property relationship.  相似文献

Four series of tolane liquid crystals containing 2,3-difluorophenylene and terminated by a tetrahydropyran (THP) moiety have been synthesised via multistep reactions based on 4-alkylcyclohexanecarboxylic acids and 4-bromo-2,3-difluorophenol. Their properties were measured by differential scanning calorimetry, polarising optical microscopy, Abbe refractometer and an electrical constants instrument. The results show that the THP-based liquid crystals nT reveal a relatively high value of the birefringence, negative dielectric anisotropy, good solubility and a broad nematic mesophase. The effects of the terminal alkyl chain, the lateral fluoro substituents and the THP terminal group on the mesomorphic and physical properties are discussed. Meanwhile, density functional theory calculations of molecular conformation and polarisability were conducted to correlate the experimental findings.  相似文献

Reactions of 1,3-bis(ω-bromoalkyl)-substituted uracils, quinazoline-2,4-dione, and 5-methyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-trione and 1,3-bis(m-bromomethylbenzyl)-5-bromouracil with amines (aliphatic amines, benzylamines, naphthylmethanamine, and anisidine) gave a series of macrocyclic compounds having one pyrimidine or triazine fragment and an azapolymethylene bridge connecting the N1 and N3 atoms of the heteroring. Six series of laterally fluorinated liquid crystals containing 1,3,2-dioxaborinane and cyclohexyl units have been synthesized and characterized. Their mesomorphic properties were characterized by polarizing optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. All these compounds are thermotropic liquid crystalline materials. All three-ring compounds (series A, B and C) and most four-ring compounds (series D, E and F) exhibit only a nematic phase, while some four-ring compounds with long terminal alkyl chains show nematic, smectic A and even smectic B phases. In addition, four compounds containing a 1,3-dioxane unit were prepared, and their mesomorphic properties compared with their 1,3,2-dioxaborinane analogues. The dielectric anisotropies of selected target compounds were determined; some showed a negative anisotropy. A homologous series of benzothiazole derivatives, 6-methoxy-2-(4-alkanoyloxybenzylidenamino)benzothiazoles, were synthesized and characterized using FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. Enantiotropic nematic phase was observed throughout the entire series. Smectic C phase only emerged from the decanoyloxy derivative onwards. The terminal methoxyl group and the ester linkage influenced the mesomorphic behavior of the present series.  相似文献

A new series of ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs) has been designed for active matrix displays based upon the chiral smectic C phase. The FLCs have been derived from optically active fluorinated alkanols and a laterally fluoro substituted biphenylyl-1,3-dioxan core. Their physical properties such as spontaneous polarization, current response time, and tilt angle have been determined. The FLC derived from 2-fluoro-octanol showed a very short current response time of 10μs at T Sm*-N* - T= 10°C, while another FLC with the same core derived from 5-fluoro-octanol gave a value of 150μs.  相似文献

New pyridinium type chiral ionic liquid crystal materials having a 1,3-dioxane ring in the central core, (+)- N -2-methylbutyl-4-(5-alkyl-1,3-dioxan-2-yl)pyridinium bromides ( 6 ), were synthesized. Mixture A was made by adding 5.9 wt % of compound 6-3 to the ferroelectric liquid crystal mixture Merck 4655-100; its phase transitions and some liquid crystal properties were measured. In spite of a large decrease of P s for mixture A, its response time A was the same as that of Merck 4655-100. The dielectric constants perpendicular to the molecular axis for the smectic C* and smectic A phases were measured for the mixture and Merck 4655-100: in the smectic C phase, these dielectric constants were almost the same (4.5~5.5), but in the smectic A phase, the perpendicular dielectric constant of the mixture was 47.0 and that of Merck 4655-100 was 4.5.  相似文献

New planar binuclear phthalocyanines sharing the benzene ring were synthesized and their spectral properties were studied.
