The possibility of maximum transmittance at lower thickness of light transmitting ZnS layer and its optimization by air-annealing as an alternative to hazardous and expensive CdS is reported in this communication in order to achieve better buffer layer for solar cells. Thin films of ZnS were deposited using e-beam evaporation on glass and ITO substrates and subjected to air-annealing followed by characterizations for physical properties. XRD patterns revealed amorphous behavior which transformed into cubic (111) plane with change of substrate and annealing whereas surface topography reveals hill and deep valley like structures. Optimal transmittance of maximum 95% in visible region, direct band gap of 3.38 eV and maximum electrical conductivity were observed for 200 °C annealed films. The study refers that films annealed at 200 °C are claimed to be suitable for buffer layer applications.  相似文献

In the present work the influence of annealing temperature on the structural and optical properties of the In2O3 films deposited by electron beam evaporation technique in the presence of oxygen was studied. The deposited films were annealed from 350 to 550 °C in air. The chemical compositions of In2O3 films were carried out by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The film structure and surface morphologies were investigated as a function of annealing temperature by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The structural studies by XRD reveal that films exhibit preferential orientation along (2 2 2) plane. The refractive index (n), packing density and porosity (%) of films were arrived from transmittance spectral data obtained in the range 250–1000 nm by UV–vis-spectrometer. The optical band gap of In2O3 film was observed and found to be varying from 3.67 to 3.85 eV with the annealing temperature.  相似文献

Zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films were sol–gel spin coated on glass substrates, annealed at various temperatures 300 °C, 400 °C and 500 °C and characterized by spectroscopic ellipsometry method. The optical properties of the films such as transmittance, refractive index, extinction coefficient, dielectric constant and optical band gap energy were determined from ellipsometric data recorded over the spectral range of 300–800 nm. The effect of annealing temperature in air on optical properties of the sol–gel derived ZnO thin films was studied. The transmission values of the annealed films were about 65% within the visible range. The optical band gap of the ZnO thin films were measured between 3.25 eV and 3.45 eV. Also the dispersion parameters such as single oscillator energy and dispersive energy were determined from the transmittance graph using the Wemple and DiDomenico model.  相似文献

TiO2 thin films are obtained by dc reactive magnetron sputtering. A target of titanium (99.995%) and a mixture of argon and oxygen gases are used to deposit TiO2 films on to silicon wafers (100). The crystalline structure of deposited and annealed film are deduced by variable-angle spectroscopic ellipsometry (VASE) and supported by x-ray diffractometry. The optical properties of the films are examined by VASE. Measurements of ellipsometry are performed in the spectral range O. 72-3.55 e V at incident angle 75^o. Several SE models, categorized by physical and optical models, are proposed based on the 'simpler better' rule and curve-fits, which are generated and compared to the experimental data using the regression analysis. It has been found that the triple-layer physical model together with the Cody-Lorentz dispersion model offer the most convincing result. The as-deposited films are found to be inhomogeneous and amorphous, whereas the annealed films present the phase transition to anatase and rutile structures. The refractive index of TiO2 thin films increases with annealing temperature. A more detailed analysis further reveals that thickness of the top sub-layer increases, whereas the region of the bottom amorphous sub-layer shrinks when the films are annealed at 300℃.  相似文献

Cadmium stannate thin films were prepared by spray pyrolysis technique using cadmium acetate and tin(II) chloride precursors at substrate temperatures 450 °C and 500 °C. XRD pattern confirms the formation of orthorhombic (1 1 1) cadmium stannate phase for the film prepared at substrate temperature of 500 °C, whereas, films prepared at 450 °C are amorphous. Film formation does not occur at substrate temperature from 300 to 375 °C. SEM images reveal that the surface of the prepared Cd2SnO4 film is smooth. The average optical transmittance of ∼86% is obtained for the film prepared at substrate temperature of 500 °C with the film thickness of 400 nm. The optical band gap value of the films varies from 2.7 to 2.94 eV. The film prepared at 500 °C shows a minimum resistivity of 35.6 × 10−4 Ω cm.  相似文献

Thin bismuth oxide films have been prepared by a modified Pechini route on glass substrate and annealed at temperatures ranging between 400 °C and 700 °C using bismuth nitrate as raw material. The thin films were then characterized for structural, surface morphological, optical and electrical properties by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical absorption and d.c. two-probe, respectively. Structural investigations indicated that as-prepared bismuth oxide films were polycrystalline and multiphase, and annealing temperatures played a key role in the composition and optical properties of these films. AFM and SEM images revealed well defined particles which are highly influenced by annealing temperatures. The optical studies showed a direct band gap which varied with annealing temperatures between 3.63 eV and 3.74 eV. The electrical measurement showed that the electrical resistivity increased with annealing temperatures and the films were typical semiconductors. As catalyst, bismuth oxide films annealed at 550 °C had the best photocatalytic performance for photodegradation of methyl orange.  相似文献

Highly transparent titanium oxide thin films were prepared on soda-lime–silica slide glass substrates from a titanium naphthenate precursor. Films prefired at 500 °C for 10 min were finally heat treated at 500 °C for 30 min in air. Crystallinity of the films was analyzed by high resolution X-ray diffraction analysis. A sharp absorption edge of the TiO2 film was observed. The estimated energy band gap for the film is larger than that of single crystal TiO2.  相似文献

Zinc oxide thin films were deposited by radio frequency magnetron sputtering. The films were annealed in vacuum at temperatures of 400, 600, and 800 °C. The influence of annealing on the structural, chemical, and optical properties of the films was investigated. From a structural point of view, the films were highly oriented, with columnar microstructure. Chemical analysis indicated that the films were sub-stoichiometric, and that the concentration of oxygen vacancies was enhanced upon annealing. The films were highly transparent in the visible and near-infrared spectral regions. Transparency was reduced as the annealing temperature was increased. The refractive index and extinction coefficient, in the transparent regions of the films, were derived from transmittance measurements. The refractive index manifested variation that was affected by crystallite size, roughness and defect concentration. The extinction coefficient of the as-deposited films and those annealed at 400 °C was negligible. However, the films annealed at 600 or 800 °C had much larger values of the extinction coefficient due to increased absorption or scattering. The absorption coefficient and optical band gap of the films were derived from spectrophotometric measurements. The absorption coefficient showed progressive increase with the annealing temperature. However, the band gap did not show significant variation.  相似文献

TiO2 thin films were prepared by sol-gel method. The structural investigations performed by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed the shape structure at T = 600 °C. The optical constants of the deposited film were obtained from the analysis of the experimentally recorded transmittance spectral data in the wavelength of 200–3000 nm range. The values of some important parameters of the studied films are determined, such as refractive index n and thickness d. In this work, using the transmission spectra, we have calculated the dielectric constant (ε) for four layered TiO2 films; a simple relation is suggested to estimate the third-order optical nonlinear susceptibility χ(3). It has been found that the dispersion data obeyed the single oscillator of the Wemple–DiDomenico model, from which the dispersion parameters and high-frequency dielectric constant were determined. The estimations of the corresponding band gap Eg, χ(3) and ε are 2.57 eV, 0.021 · 10−10 esu and 5.20, respectively.  相似文献

Cadmium sulphide (CdS) thin films were prepared chemical bath deposition technique. The films were doped with copper using the direct method consisting in the addition of a copper salt in the deposition bath of CdS. The doped films were annealed in air, at 250, 300 and 350 °C, for 1 h. The deposition films were characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive analysis by X-rays (EDAX) and optical properties of CdS thin films before and after Cu doping. XRD analysis shows that the films are polycrystalline in nature with cubic crystalline structure. The various parameters such as crystallite size, micro strain and dislocation density were evaluated. SEM study shows that the total substrate surface is well covered by uniformly distributed spherical shaped grains. Optical transmittance study shows the presence of direct transition with band gap energy decrease 2.5–2.2 eV.  相似文献

Tin oxide thin films were deposited by a novel technique called as modified-SILAR. The preparative parameters were optimized to obtain good quality thin films. As-deposited films were annealed in O2 atmosphere for 1 h at 500 °C. The annealed films were irradiated using Au8+ ions with energy of 100 MeV at different fluencies of 1 × 1011, 1 × 1012, 5 × 1012 and 1 × 1013 ions/cm2 using tandem pelletron accelerator. The irradiation-induced modifications in tin oxide thin films were studied using XRD, AFM, optical band gap, photoluminescence and IV measurements. XRD studies showed formation of tin oxide with tetragonal structure. AFM revealed uniform deposition of the material with increase in grain size after irradiation. Decrease in band gap from 3.51 eV to 2.82 eV was seen with increases in fluency. A decrease in PL intensity, and an additional peak was observed after irradiation. IV measurements showed a decrease in resistance with fluency.  相似文献

This paper presents the physical properties of vacuum evaporated CdTe thin films with post-deposition thermal annealing. The thin films of thickness 500 nm were grown on glass and indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass substrates employing thermal vacuum evaporation technique followed by post-deposition thermal annealing at temperature 450 °C. These films were subjected to the X-ray diffraction (XRD),UV-Vis spectrophotometer, source meter and atomic force microscopy (AFM) for structural, optical, electrical and surface morphological analysis respectively. The X-ray diffraction patterns reveal that the films have zinc-blende structure of single cubic phase with preferred orientation (111) and polycrystalline in nature. The crystallographic and optical parameters are calculated and discussed in brief. The optical band gap is found to be 1.62 eV and 1.52 eV for as-grown and annealed films respectively. The I–V characteristics show that the conductivity is decreased for annealed thin films. The AFM studies reveal that the surface roughness is observed to be increased for thermally annealed films.  相似文献

Electrochromic molybdenum oxide (MoO3) thin films were prepared by electron beam evaporation technique using the dry MoO3 pellets. The films were deposited on glass and fluorine doped tin oxide (SnO2:F or FTO) coated glass substrates at different substrate temperatures like room temperature (RT, 30 °C), 100 °C and 200 °C. The influence of substrate temperature on the structural, surface morphological and optical properties of the films has been studied. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the films are having orthorhombic phase MoO3 (α-MoO3) with 〈1 1 0〉 preferred orientation. The laser Raman scattering spectrum shows the polycrystalline nature of MoO3 films deposited at 200 °C. The Raman-active band at 993 cm−1 is corresponding to Mo–O stretching mode that is associated with the unique character of the layered structure of orthorhombic MoO3. Needle—like morphology was observed from the SEM analysis. The energy band gap of MoO3 films was evaluated which lies between 2.8 and 2.3 eV depending on the substrate temperature and substrates. The decrease in band gap value with increasing substrate temperature is owing to the oxygen-ion vacancies. The absorption edge shift shows the coloration effect on the films.  相似文献

This paper reports on the structural and optical properties of Co-doped TiO2 thin films grown onto (0001)Al2O3 substrates by non-reactive pulsed laser deposition (PLD) using argon as buffer gas. It is shown that by keeping constant the substrate temperature at as low as 310 °C and varying only the background gas pressure between 7 Pa and 70 Pa, it is possible to grow either epitaxial rutile or pure anatase thin films, as well as films with a mixture of both polymorphs. The optical band gaps of the films are red shifted in comparison with the values usually reported for undoped TiO2, which is consistent with n-type doping of the TiO2 matrix. Such band gap red shift brings the absorption edge of the Co-doped TiO2 films into the visible region, which might favour their photocatalytic activity. Furthermore, the band gap red shift depends on the films’ phase composition, increasing with the increase of the Urbach energy for increasing rutile content.  相似文献

A new approach of chemical bath deposition (CBD) of SnO2 thin films is reported. Films with a 0.2 μm thickness are obtained using the multi-dip deposition approach with a deposition time as little as 8–10 min for each dip. The possibility of fabricating a transparent conducting oxide layer of Cd2SnO4 thin films using CBD is investigated through successive layer deposition of CBD-SnO2 and CBD-CdO films, followed by annealing at different temperatures. High quality films with transmittance exceeding 80% in the visible region are obtained. Annealed CBD-SnO2 films are orthorhombic, highly stoichiometric, strongly adhesive, and transparent with an optical band gap of ~4.42 eV. Cd2SnO4 films with a band gap as high as 3.08 eV; a carrier density as high as 1.7 × 1020 cm?3; and a resistivity as low as 1.01 × 10?2 Ω cm are achieved.  相似文献

Nd-doped Si-rich silicon oxide thin films were produced by radio frequency magnetron co-sputtering of three confocal cathodes: Si, SiO2, and Nd2O3, in pure argon plasma at 500 °C. The microstructure and optical properties of the films were investigated versus silicon excess and post-deposition annealing treatment by means of ellipsometry and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry as well as by the photoluminescence method. A notable emission from Nd3+ ions was obtained for the as-deposited sample, while the films annealed at 900 °C showed the highest peak intensity. The maximum emission was observed for the films with 4.7 at% of Si excess.  相似文献

By deposition of metallic vanadium on FTO substrate in Argon atmosphere at room temperature, the sample was then annealed in furnace for 2 h at the temperature of 410 °C in air ambient. (1 1 0) -orientated vanadium dioxide films were prepared on the FTO surface. A maximum transmittance of ∼40% happened at 900–1250 nm region at room temperature. The change of optical transmittance at this region was ∼25% between semiconducting and metallic states. In particular, vanadium dioxide thin films on FTO exhibit semiconductor–metal phase transition at ∼51 °C, the width of the hysteresis loop is ∼8 °C.  相似文献

Zirconia (ZrO2) nanostructures of various sizes have been synthesized using sol–gel method followed by calcination of the samples from 500 to 700 °C. The calcined ZrO2 powder samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infra-red spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV–visible spectroscopy (UV–vis.), Raman spectroscopy (RS) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The phase transformation from tetragonal (t) to monoclinic (m) was observed. The average diameter of the ZrO2 nanostructures calcined at 500, 600 and 700 °C was calculated to be 8, 17 and 10 nm, respectively. The ZrO2 sample calcined at 500 °C with tetragonal phase shows a direct optical band gap of 5.1 eV. The value of optical band gap is decreased to 4.3 eV for the ZrO2 calcined at 600 °C, which contains both tetragonal (73%) and monoclinic (27%) phases. On further calcination at 700 °C, where the ZrO2 nanostructures have 36% tetragonal and 64% monoclinic phases, the optical band gap is calculated to be 4.8 eV. The enhancement in optical band gap for ZrO2 calcined at 700 °C may be due to the rod like shape of ZrO2 nanostructures. The tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation was also confirmed by analyzing Raman spectroscopic data. The TG analysis revealed that the ZrO2 nanostructure with dominance of monoclinic phase is found to be more stable over the tetragonal phase. In order to confirm the phase stability of the two phases of ZrO2, single point energy is calculated corresponding to its monoclinic and tetragonal structures using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results obtained by theoretical calculations are in good agreement with the experimental findings.  相似文献

In order to develop high efficiency solar cell device by replacing conventional hazardous CdS window layer by environmental friendly Zn-based buffer layer, ZnSe thin films of thickness 100 nm were grown on glass and ITO substrates employing electron beam evaporation technique followed by air and vacuum annealing at temperature 100 °C, 200 °C and 300 °C. As-grown and annealed films were subjected to characterization tools like XRD, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, SEM, EDS and source meter. Structural results reveal the amorphous phase, SEM images indicate uniform deposition without pin holes and EDS patterns confirm the deposition. Transmittance is observed to be high in visible region and band gap is found to change with temperature of the treatment and I-V measurements demonstrate ohmic nature. On the basis of optimized results, the films annealed at 200 °C in vacuum may be used as buffer layer to develop high efficiency Cd-based and CIGS thin film solar cells.  相似文献

In this work, the pulsed electron beam deposition method (PED) is evaluated by studying the properties of ZnO thin films grown on c-cut sapphire substrates. The film composition, structure and surface morphology were investigated by means of Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy. Optical absorption, resistivity and Hall effect measurements were performed in order to obtain the optical and electronic properties of the ZnO films. By a fine tuning of the deposition conditions, smooth, dense, stoichiometric and textured hexagonal ZnO films were epitaxially grown on (0001) sapphire at 700 °C with a 30° rotation of the ZnO basal plane with respect to the sapphire substrate. The average transmittance of the films reaches 90% in the visible range with an optical band gap of 3.28 eV. Electrical characterization reveals a high density of charge carrier of 3.4 × 1019 cm?3 along with a mobility of 11.53 cm²/Vs. The electrical and optical properties are discussed and compared to ZnO thin films prepared by the similar and most well-known pulsed laser deposition method.  相似文献
