Results concerning singular Cauchy problems, smooth manifolds, and Lyapunov series are used to correctly state and analyze a singular “initial-boundary” problem for a third-order nonlinear ordinary differential equation defined on the entire real axis. This problem arises in viscous incompressible fluid dynamics and describes self-similar solutions to the boundary layer equation for the stream function with a zero pressure gradient (plane-parallel flow in a mixing layer). The analysis of the problem suggests a simple numerical method for its solution. Numerical results are presented.  相似文献

In this paper the even-order quasilinear ordinary differential equation is considered under the hypotheses that n is even, D i )x = (|xi−1 x)′, α i > 0(i = 1,2,…, n), β > 0, and p(t) is a continuous, nonnegative, and eventually nontrivial function on an infinite interval [a, ∞), a > 0. The existence of positive solutions of (1.1) is discussed, and basic results to the classical equation are extended to the more general equation (1.1). In particular, necessary and sufficient integral conditions for the existence of positive solutions of (1.1) are established in the case α 1α2s α n ≠ β. Ordinary differential equations are considered which contain a singular perturbation. It is assumed that when the perturbation parameter is zero, the equation has a hyperbolic equilibrium and homoclinic solution. No restriction is placed on the dimension of the phase space or on the dimension of intersection of the stable and unstable manifolds. A bifurcation function is established which determines nonzero values of the perturbation parameter for which the homoclinic solution persists. It is further shown that when the vector field is periodic and a transversality condition is satisfied, the homoclinic solution to the perturbed equation produces a transverse homoclinic orbit in the period map. The techniques used are those of exponential dichotomies, Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction and scales of Banach spaces. A much simplified version of this latter theory is developed suitable for the present case. This work generalizes some recent results of Battelli and Palmer.

Based on the normal form theory for retarded functional differential equations by Faria and Magalhães, a symbolic computation scheme together with the Maple program implementation is developed to compute the normal form of a Hopf bifurcation for retarded functional differential equations with unknown parameters. Not operating as the usual way of computing the center manifold first and normal form later, the scheme features computing them simultaneously. Great efforts are made to package this task into one Maple program with an input interface provided for defining different systems. The applicability of the Maple program is demonstrated via three kinds of delayed dynamic systems such as a delayed Liénard equation, a simplified drilling model and a delayed three-neuron model. The effectiveness of Maple program is also validated through the numerical simulations of those three systems.  相似文献

For systems of differential equations of the form (xI n T )dy /dx = Ay (systems of Okubo normal form), where A is an n × n constant matrix and T is an n × n constant diagonal matrix, two kinds of operations (extension and restriction) are defined. It is shown that every irreducible system of Okubo normal form of semi‐simple type whose monodromy representation is rigid is obtained from a rank 1 system of Okubo normal form by a finite iteration of the operations. The effects of parabola singular curves in the integrable nonlinear wave equation are studied by using the bifurcation theory of dynamical system. We find new singular periodic waves for a nonlinear wave equation from short capillary-gravity waves. The new periodic waves possess weaker singularity than the periodic peakon. It is shown that the second derivatives of the new singular periodic wave solutions do not exist in countable number of points but the first derivatives exist. We show that there exist close connection between the new singular periodic waves and parabola singular curve in phase plane of traveling wave system for the first time.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the following nonlinear equation ut+2kux-uxxt+au^2ux=2uxuxx+uuxxx,which is a modified form of the Camassa-Holm equation. We construct four new explicit periodic wave solutions by bifurcation method of dynamical systems. We also obtain two explicit solitary wave solutions via the limits of the explicit periodic wave solutions. One of the two solitary wave solutions is new.  相似文献

We consider the nonautonomous differential equation of second order x+a(t)xb(t)x2+c(t)x3=0, where a(t),b(t),c(t) are T-periodic functions. This is a biomathematical model of an aneurysm in the circle of Willis.
