For any open, connected and bounded set , let be a natural function algebra consisting of functions holomorphic on . Let be a Hilbert module over the algebra and let be the submodule of functions vanishing to order on a hypersurface . Recently the authors have obtained an explicit complete set of unitary invariants for the quotient module in the case of . In this paper, we relate these invariants to familiar notions from complex geometry. We also find a complete set of unitary invariants for the general case. We discuss many concrete examples in this setting. As an application of our equivalence results, we characterise certain homogeneous Hilbert modules over the bi-disc algebra.

Partial solutions are obtained to Halmos’ problem, whether or not any polynomially bounded operator on a Hilbert spaceH is similar to a contraction. Central use is made of Paulsen’s necessary and sufficient condition, which permits one to obtain bounds on ‖S‖ ‖S ?1‖, whereS is the similarity. A natural example of a polynomially bounded operator appears in the theory of Hankel matrices, defining $$R_f = \left( {\begin{array}{*{20}c} {S*} \\ 0 \\ \end{array} \begin{array}{*{20}c} {\Gamma _f } \\ S \\ \end{array} } \right)$$ onl 2l 2, whereS is the shift and Γ f the Hankel operator determined byf withf′ ∈ BMOA. Using Paulsen’s condition, we prove thatR f is similar to a contraction. In the general case, combining Grothendieck’s theorem and techniques from complex function theory, we are able to get in the finite dimensional case the estimate $$\left\| S \right\|\left\| {S^{ - 1} } \right\| \leqq M^4 log(dim H)$$ whereSTS ?1 is a contraction and assuming \(\left\| {p\left( T \right)} \right\| \leqq M\left\| p \right\|_\infty \) wheneverp is an analytic polynomial on the disc.  相似文献

In this paper we characterize the situation wherein a subspaceS of a separable Hilbert state space is holdable under the abstract linear autonomous control system , whereA is the infinitesimal generator of aC 0-semigroup of operators and whereB is a bounded linear operator mapping a Hilbert space intoX. WhenS D(A*) is dense inS , it is shown that a necessary (but insufficient) condition for holdability is (1): . A stronger condition than (1) is shown to be sufficient for a type of approximate holdability. In the finite dimensional setting, (1) reduces to (A, B)-invariance, which is known to be equivalent to the existence of a (bounded) linear feedback control law which achieves holdability inS. We prove that this equivalence holds in infinite dimensions as well, whenA is bounded and the linear spacesS, B andS+ B are closed.In the unbounded case, our results are illustrated by the shift semigroup and by the heat equation on an infinite rod with distributed controls. We study the problem when an infinite system of linear functional equations

We combine the notion of norming algebra introduced by Pop, Sinclair and Smith with a result of Pisier to show that if and are operator algebras, then any bounded epimorphism of onto is completely bounded provided that contains a norming -subalgebra. We use this result to give some insights into Kadison's Similarity Problem: we show that every faithful bounded homomorphism of a -algebra on a Hilbert space has completely bounded inverse, and show that a bounded representation of a -algebra is similar to a -representation precisely when the image operator algebra -norms itself. We give two applications to isometric isomorphisms of certain operator algebras. The first is an extension of a result of Davidson and Power on isometric isomorphisms of CSL algebras. Secondly, we show that an isometric isomorphism between subalgebras of -diagonals () satisfying extends uniquely to a -isomorphism of the -algebras generated by and ; this generalizes results of Muhly-Qiu-Solel and Donsig-Pitts.

We make several observations on the Mycielski ideal and prove a version of the perfect set theorem concerning this ideal for analytic sets: If is an analytic set all projections of which are uncountable, then there is a perfect set a projection of which is the whole space. We also prove that (a modification of) an infinite game of Mycielski is determined for analytic sets.

For a domain , the Kerzman-Stein operator is the skew-hermitian part of the Cauchy operator acting on L2(b), which is defined with respect to Euclidean measure. In this paper we compute the spectrum of the Kerzman-Stein operator for three domains whose boundaries consist of two circular arcs: a strip, a wedge, and an annulus. If are type II factors with and we show that restrictions on the standard invariants of the elementary inclusions , , and imply drastic restrictions on the indices and angles between the subfactors. In particular we show that if these standard invariants are trivial and the conditional expectations onto and do not commute, then is or . The techniques of proof rely heavily on planar algebras.

An extension of integral domains is said to have the “finite length of intermediate chains of domains” property (for short FICP) if each chain of intermediate rings between R and S is finite. The main purpose of this paper is to characterize when has FICP in case R * (the integral closure of R in S) is a finite dimensional semilocal domain. This generalizes a theorem due to Gilmer, in which S is the quotient field of R. Examples illustrating the sharpness and the limits of our results are settled.   相似文献

The goal of this paper is to establish singular Adams type inequality for biharmonic operator on Heisenberg group. As an application, we establish the existence of a solution to

Denote byC n(S) the circulant graph (or digraph). LetM be a minimal generating element subset ofZ n, the cyclic group of integers modulon, and In this paper, we discuss the problems about the automorphism group and isomorphisms ofC n(S). When M S , we determine the automorphism group ofC n(S) and prove that for any T if and only ifT = S, where is an integer relatively prime ton. The automorphism groups and isomorphisms of some other types of circulant graphs (or digraphs) are also considered. In the last section of this paper, we give a relation between the isomorphisms and the automorphism groups of circulants.  相似文献
