Poly(ethylene terephthalate) and the copolyesters obtained by copolycondensation of ethylene glycol with dimethyl terephthalate and dimethyl isophthalate were fractionated by coacervate extraction and gel permeation chromatography. The results established the influence of chemical inhomogeneity of chains on the separation process.  相似文献

The paper provides new insights into the structure of Pt-containing diblock and triblock copolymers based on poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP), using a combination of atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and anomalous small-angle X-ray scattering (ASAXS). Parallel studies using methods contributing supplemental structural information allowed us to comprehensively characterize sophisticated polymer systems during metalation and to exclude possible ambiguity of the data interpretation of each of the methods. AFM and TEM make available the determination of sizes of the micelles and of the Pt-containing micelle cores, respectively, while a combination of XRD, TEM, and ASAXS reveals Pt-nanoparticle size distributions and locations along with the structural information about the polymer matrix. In addition, for the first time, ASAXS revealed the organization of Pt-nanoparticle-filled diblock and triblock copolymers in the bulk. The nanoparticle characteristics are mainly determined by the type of block copolymer system in which they are found: larger particles (2.0-3.0 nm) are formed in triblock copolymer micelles, while smaller ones (1.5-2.5 nm) are found in diblock copolymer micelles. This can be explained by facilitated intermicellar exchange in triblock copolymer systems. For both systems, Pt nanoparticles have narrow particle size distributions as a result of a strong interaction between the nanoparticle surface and the P4VP units inside the micelle cores. The pH of the medium mainly influences the particle location rather than the particle size. A structural model of Pt-nanoparticle clustering in the diblock PEO-b-P4VP and triblock P4VP-b-PEO-b-P4VP copolymers in the bulk was constructed ab initio from the ASAXS data. This model reveals that nearly spherical micellar cores of about 10 nm in diameter (filled with Pt nanoparticles) aggregate forming slightly oblate hollow bodies with an outer diameter of about 40 nm.  相似文献

Well‐defined diblock and triblock copolymers composed of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) were successfully synthesized through the reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) with PEO capped with one or two dithiobenzoyl groups as a macrotransfer agent. 1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared, and gel permeation chromatography instruments were used to characterize the block copolymers obtained. The results showed that the diblock and triblock copolymers had well‐defined structures and narrow molecular weight distributions (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.2), and the molecular weight of the PNIPAM block in the diblock and triblock copolymers could be controlled by the initial molar ratio of NIPAM to dithiobenzoate‐terminated PEO and the NIPAM conversion. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Low-molecular-weight poly(ethylene oxide)-polyalkane (PEO-PA) diblock copolymers have been examined between the order-disorder transition and PEO melting temperature using small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and dynamic mechanical spectroscopy (DMS). Crystallization imposes layered ordering with polymer stems oriented perpendicular, or tilted, relative to the microdomain interface, thereby disrupting conventional amorphous microdomain morphologies. This effect can be used to switch the high symmetry bicontinuous ordered G phase to lower symmetry cylinders or lamellae.  相似文献

The effects caused by poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO; Pluronic) copolymers on the structure and stability of dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE) liposomes were studied by means of turbidity, leakage, and cryo-transmission electron microscopy investigations. The results show that by inclusion of Pluronics in the DOPE dispersion it is possible to stabilize the lamellar Lalpha phase and to produce liposomes that are stable and nonleaky at low pH (pH 5). The stabilizing capacity was observed to depend critically on the molecular composition of the Pluronics. Block copolymers with comparably long PPO and PEO segment lengths, such as F127 and F108, most effectively protected DOPE liposomes prepared at high pH from aggregation and subsequent structural rearrangements induced by acidification. A sufficiently long PPO block was found to be the most decisive parameter in order to obtain adequate coverage of the liposome surface at low Pluronic concentrations. Upon increasing the copolymer concentration, however, Pluronics with comparably short PPO and PEO segment lengths, such as F87 and P85, could also be used to stabilize the DOPE liposomes. Essentially the same trends were observed when the Pluronics were added to preformed DOPE liposomes instead of being included in the preparation mixture. In this case the least effective copolymers failed, however, to completely prevent the DOPE liposomes from releasing encapsulated hydrophilic markers.  相似文献

The micellization properties of carboxy-modified Pluronics P85 (poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) triblock copolymers) are investigated by means of a molecularly realistic self-consistent-field theory. We consider the, so-called, carboxylic acid end-standing P85 (CAE-85) case where the carboxylic group is located at the end of both PEO parts and the carboxylic acid center-standing P85 (CAC-85) case where each of the carboxylic group presents between the PEO and PPO blocks. The micellization of these copolymers depends on the pH, the added electrolyte concentration phis, and the temperature. It is shown that the aggregation number (Nagg) decreases, whereas the critical micellization concentration (CMC) increases with pH. For the case of increasing phis, the Nagg increases and the CMC decreases. The critical micellization temperature (CMT) and cloud point temperature (CPT) increase with pH at low phis and decrease at increasing phis. The changing from CAE-85 to CAC-85 leads to increasing CMC and CMT, but lower CPT.  相似文献

A series of triblock copolymers consisting of oligomeric segments of poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) were synthesized. These amphiphilic polymers have the general structure (PEO)n-Z-(PDMS)m-Z-(PEO)n or inversely (PDMS)m-Z–(PEO)n-Z-(PDMS)m where “Z” is the group linking the chains of different polarity. n and m varied in the range m, n < 77. These polymers spontaneously form lyotropic mesphases if mixed with water. The phasediagrams and symmetry of the phases were determined. Moreover, photoreactive groups were attached at exactly and only the positions “Z” of the block copolymers. When photocrosslinking was induced in a particular lyotropic mesophase, the arrangement of the molecules in this phase structure was fixed. Although the phase structure collapsed when the systems were freed from water, the structure returned on reswelling. Some rules concerning the tendency of such molecules to self-organize as a function of the molecular structures are obtained.  相似文献

Fluorescence spectroscopy is used to probe local environments within regions of different polarity and hydrophobicity in aqueous aggregates of PEO(109)-PPO(41)-PEO(109) triblock copolymers. These copolymer aggregates have well characterized microphases in aqueous solution. Concentrations and temperatures for our studies are chosen such that the copolymers are in unimer, micellar, or micellar hydrogel forms. The observed fluorescence spectra and lifetimes from solutions individually labeled with each of the three coumarin probes report on the changes in the local polarity of the core, exterior, interfacial, and corona regions of these copolymer aggregates. This multiple fluorescence probe methodology will be straightforward to apply in general to problems in polymer and biopolymer aggregates, especially those that display strong hydrophobic effects.  相似文献

This paper reports the studies on micelle formation of new biodegradable amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)-poly[(R)-3-hydroxybutyrate]-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PHB-PEO) triblock copolymer with various PHB and PEO block lengths in aqueous solution. Transmission electron microscopy showed that the micelles took an approximately spherical shape with the surrounding diffuse outer shell formed by hydrophilic PEO blocks. The size distribution of the micelles formed by one triblock copolymer was demonstrated by dynamic light scattering technique. The critical micellization phenomena of the copolymers were extensively studied using the pyrene fluorescence dye absorption technique, and the (0,0) band changes of pyrene excitation spectra were used as a probe for the studies. For the copolymers studied in this report, the critical micelle concentrations ranged from 1.3 x 10(-5) to 1.1 x 10(-3) g/mL. For the same PEO block length of 5000, the critical micelle concentrations decreased with an increase in PHB block length, and the change was more significant in the short PHB range. It was found that the micelle formation of the biodegradable amphiphilic triblock copolymers consisting of poly(beta-hydroxyalkanoic acid) and PEO was relatively temperature-insensitive, which is quite different from their counterparts consisting of poly(alpha-hydroxyalkanoic acid) and PEO.  相似文献

AB‐type block copolymers with poly(trimethylene carbonate) [poly(TMC); A] and poly(ethylene oxide) [PEO; B; number‐average molecular weight (Mn) = 5000] blocks [poly(TMC)‐b‐PEO] were synthesized via the ring‐opening polymerization of trimethylene carbonate (TMC) in the presence of monohydroxy PEO with stannous octoate as a catalyst. Mn of the resulting copolymers increased with increasing TMC content in the feed at a constant molar ratio of the monomer to the catalyst (monomer/catalyst = 125). The thermal properties of the AB diblock copolymers were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry. The melting temperature of the PEO blocks was lower than that of the homopolymer, and the crystallinity of the PEO block decreased as the length of the poly(TMC) blocks increased. The glass‐transition temperature of the poly(TMC) blocks was dependent on the diblock copolymer composition upon first heating. The static contact angle decreased sharply with increasing PEO content in the diblock copolymers. Compared with poly(TMC), poly(TMC)‐b‐PEO had a higher Young's modulus and lower elongation at break. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 43: 4819–4827, 2005  相似文献

Anionic polymerization high vacuum techniques were employed for the synthesis of a diblock (PS-b-PtBuMA) and two triblock (PS-b-PtBuMA-b-PS) copolymers of polystyrene (PS) and poly(t-butyl methacrylate) (PtBuMA) bearing similar low molecular weight PS end-block(s). Dilute solution viscometry, as well as static and dynamic light scattering, were employed to assess whether the short PS end-blocks were able to promote association in t-amyl alcohol, a selective solvent for PtBuMA. The effect of macromolecular architecture on the association behavior of the copolymers was also examined.  相似文献

Well‐defined ABA triblock copolymers in which A stands for poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and B for poly(tetrahydrofuran) (PTHF) were synthesized by end‐capping bifunctionally living PTHF with different polyethylene glycol–monomethylethers. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis of these copolymers showed two melting points: one around 55 °C due to the PEO blocks, and one around 30 °C due to the PTHF segments, demonstrating that these block copolymers show extensive phase separation. Upon addition of sodium thiocyanate, crystalline complexes with PEO were formed and as a consequence, the melting points of the PEO segments had shifted to approximately 170 °C, whereas the melting points of the PTHF segments decreased slightly. The obtained materials behave as thermoplastic elastomers up to 160–175 °C. The influence of the relative lengths of the PEO and the PTHF segments on the thermal and mechanical properties of the materials have been investigated. Self‐association in aqueous solution of amphiphilic poly(acrylic acid)‐b‐poly(propylene oxide)‐b‐poly(acrylic acid) (PAA‐b‐PPO‐b‐PAA) copolymers having various outer PAA block lengths are presented. These copolymers show two thermosensitive behaviors. The first one, due to hydrogen bonds between PAA and PPO resulting in large aggregates, was observed by visible spectroscopy. The second one, due to the association of PPO middle block into aggregates, was evidenced by dynamic light scattering and pyrene fluorescence. These critical temperatures both depend on the ionization and the length of PAA blocks. The characterization of the aggregates above the critical aggregation concentration by fluorescence quenching experiments showed a very low aggregation number corresponding to dimers or trimers association depending on the conditions. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(ethylene oxide/polylactide/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO/PL/PEO) triblock copolymers, in which each block is connected by an ester bond, were synthesized by a coupling reaction between PL and PEO. Hydroxyl‐terminated PLs with various molecular weights were synthesized and used as hard segments. Hydroxyl‐terminated PEOs were converted to the corresponding acid halides via their acid group and used as a soft segment. Triblock copolymers were identified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR, and gel permeation chromatography. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X‐ray diffractometry of PEO/PL/PEO triblock copolymers suggested that PL and PEO blocks were phase‐separated and that the crystallization behavior of the PL block was markedly affected by the presence of the PEO block. PEO/PL/PEO triblock copolymers with PEO 0.75k had two exothermic peaks (by DSC), and both peaks were related to the crystallization of PL. According to thermogravimetric analysis, PEO/PL/PEO triblock copolymer showed a higher thermal stability than PL or PEO. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  The self-diffusion behavior of a triblock copolymer (PEO–b– PPO–b–PEO) in an aqueous solution of 20% (m/m) was investigated during a temperature-induced phase transition from liquid to gel state using pulsed field gradient NMR and static light scattering. The measured self-diffusivity shows a strong dependence on the observation time in the gel phase indicating the existence of diffusion barriers in the size range of about 0.6 μm. Additional static light-scattering measurements show a structure in the same size range of several hundred nanometers, which is far above molecular or micellar sizes and thus, has to be caused by larger clusters. The similarity in the space scales suggests that the restriction of molecular propagation is correlated with the grain boundaries between the domains of the poly-crystalline structure formed by the arranged micelles. A series of peptides of general primary structure (VSSLESK)n (n = 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) were designed and synthesized by fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl solid-phase synthesis using a convergent approach. Peptides containing 21, 28, 35 and 42 residues were modified with α-methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG; mol. wt. 2000) by reaction of mPEG–succinimidyl carbonate with the α-amino group of the resin-attached protected peptides. The conformation and thermal stability of the peptides and of their AB block copolymers (A is the mPEG block, B the (VSSLESK)n block) in aqueous medium were investigated by circular dichroism, size-exclusion chromatography and by analytical ultracentrifugation. The helicity of peptides increased with increasing length in a cooperative manner. The peptides and mPEG–peptides with 35 and 42 amino acid residues (block copolymers) adopted a two-stranded α-helical coiled-coil conformation in aqueous solution. The presence of the polymer chain in the diblock hybrid copolymers had no disturbing effect with respect to the stability of the α-helical peptide part in these constructs. Moreover, the thermal stability of mPEG-modified 42-peptide was substantially higher than that of the native 42-peptide. Analytical ultracentrifugation data revealed that in phosphate-buffered saline solution (25–200 μM ) the block copolymer mPEG-block-(VSSLESK)6 ( PEG42 ) associated into stable intermolecular coiled-coil dimers.

The effect of polyethylene oxide (PEO) or polypropylene oxide (PPO) oligomers of various molecular weight (Mw) as well as of triblock copolymers, based on PEO and PPO blocks, on aqueous laponite RD suspensions was studied with small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). The radius of gyration (RG) increases for low M w whereas the opposite occurs for larger Mw. This behavior is explained on the basis that an effective R G is given by two contributions: (1) the size of the particles coated with the polymer and (2) the interactions between the laponite RD particles which are attractive for small and repulsive for large polymers. The SANS curves in the whole Q-range are well described by a model of noninteracting polydisperse core+shell disks, where the thickness of the polymer layer increases with the Mw. The adsorbed polymer is in a more compact conformation compared to a random coil distribution while the fraction of the polymer in the shell formed around the laponite RD particles is nearly independent of Mw. For increasing laponite RD amounts, at a given polymer composition, the thickness of the polymer slightly changes. In some cases, where also gelation is sped up, a structure factor with attractive interaction was employed which allowed to evaluate the attractive forces between the laponite RD particles. The gelation time was determined for mixtures at fixed copolymer and laponite RD concentrations. Surprisingly, it is observed that gels are formed despite the fact that the binding sites of the laponite RD particles are almost covered but the polymer size is too small to prevent aggregation. The gelation rate is correlated to structure and thermodynamics of these systems. Namely, when the balance between the steric forces and the depletion attractive forces undergoes an abrupt change the gelation time also undergoes a sharp variation. For lower and comparable Mw, PPO speeds up the gelation more efficiently than PEO while for higher Mw the gelation kinetics is slowed down again. Interestingly, copolymers of PEO and PPO blocks do not induce gelation in the time-window where the homopolymers do.  相似文献

A series of new polypseudorotaxanes were synthesized in high yields when the middle poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) block of poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide) (PPO-PEO-PPO) triblock copolymers was selectively recognized and included by alpha-cyclodextrin (alpha-CD) to form crystalline inclusion complexes (ICs), although the middle PEO block was flanked by two thicker PPO blocks, and a PPO chain had been previously thought to be impenetrable to alpha-CD. X-ray diffraction studies demonstrated that the IC domains of the polypseudorotaxanes assumed a channel-type structure similar to the necklace-like ICs formed by alpha-CD and PEO homopolymers. Solid-state CP/MAS (13)C NMR studies showed that the alpha-CD molecules in the polypseudorotaxanes adopted a symmetrical conformation due to the formation of ICs. The compositions and stoichiometry of the polypseudorotaxanes were studied using (1)H NMR, and a 2:1 (ethylene oxide unit to alpha-CD) stoichiometry was found for all polypseudorotaxanes although the PPO-PEO-PPO triblock copolymers had different compositions and block lengths, suggesting that only the PEO block was closely included by alpha-CD molecules, whereas the PPO blocks were uncovered. The hypothesis was further supported by the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) studies of the polypseudorotaxanes. The glass transitions of the PPO blocks in the polypseudorotaxanes were clearly observed because they were uncovered by alpha-CD and remained amorphous, whereas the glass-transition temperatures increased, because the molecular motion of the PPO blocks was restricted by the hard crystalline phases of the IC domains formed by alpha-CD and the PEO blocks. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) revealed that the polypseudorotaxanes had better thermal stability than their free components due to the inclusion complexation. Finally, the kinetics of the threading process of alpha-CD onto the copolymers was also studied. The findings reported in this article suggested interesting possibilities in designing other cyclodextrin ICs and polypseudorotaxanes with block structures.  相似文献

Poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(methyl acrylate) diblock copolymers with narrow molecular weight distributions were synthesized using atom transfer radical polymerization. The copolymers were used as micellar templates for the synthesis of mesoporous silicas. The products were characterized using small-angle X-ray scattering, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nitrogen adsorption. The obtained silicas exhibited two-dimensional hexagonal structures of cylindrical mesopores, and thus can be classified as SBA-15 silicas. In some cases, the size of ordered domains was very small. The (100) interplanar spacings were 13–17 nm, depending on the size of the diblock copolymer used and on the synthesis conditions. Nitrogen adsorption showed that the silicas exhibited specific surface areas of 350–800 m2 g−1, pore volumes ∼1 cm3 g−1, and narrow pore size distributions. The BJH (nominal) pore diameters were up to ∼20 nm, but actual diameters of cylindrical pores are expected to be somewhat smaller. In many cases, the mesopores exhibited constrictions.  相似文献
