We study the propagation of linear waves, generated by a compactly supported time-harmonic force distribution, in a semi-infinite string under the assumption that the material properties depend p-period-ically on the space variable outside a sufficiently large interval [0, a]. The spectrum of the self-adjoint extension A of the spatial part of the differential operator consists of a finite or countable number of bands and a (possibly empty) discrete set of eigenvalues located in the gaps of the continuous spectrum. We show that resonances of order t or t½, respectively, occur if either ω2 is an eigenvalue of A or (i) ω2 is a boundary point of the continuous spectrum of A and (ii) the corresponding time-independent homogeneous problem has a non-trivial solution which is p-periodic or p-semiperiodic for x > a (‘standing wave’). 相似文献

A well‐known conjecture of Erd?s states that given an infinite graph G and sets A, ? V(G), there exists a family of disjoint A ? B paths ?? together with an A ? B separator X consisting of a choice of one vertex from each path in ??. There is a natural extension of this conjecture in which A, B, and X may contain ends as well as vertices. In 1975 D. Sullivan gave an example of a periodic flow on a compact 5-manifold with Epstein hierarchy of length one, and he asked whether the Epstein hierarchy of a compact foliation could have infinite length. We show that the answer is yes by constructing a periodic flow with this property on a compact 8-manifold. By modifying the example one can see that any countable ordinal can occur as the length of the Epstein hierarchy. It is known that only countable ordinals can occur [1]. 相似文献

We establish several new fractal and number theoretical phenomena connected with expansions which are generated by infinite linear iterated function systems. We show that the systems of cylinders of generalized Lüroth expansions are, generally speaking, not faithful for the Hausdorff dimension calculation. Using Yuval Peres' approach, we prove sufficient conditions for the non‐faithfulness of such families of cylinders. On the other hand, rather general sufficient conditions for the faithfulness of such covering systems are also found. As a corollary, we obtain the non‐faithfullness of the family of cylinders generated by the classical Lüroth expansion. We also develop new approach to the study of subsets of ‐essentially non‐normal numbers and prove that this set has full Hausdorff dimension. This result answers the open problem mentioned in 2 and completes the metric, dimensional and topological classification of real numbers via the asymptotic behaviour of frequencies their digits in the generalized Lüroth expansion. 相似文献

In this paper, we identify the critical point for a Hopf-pitchfork bifurcation in a nonlinear financial system with delay, and derive the normal form up to third order with their unfolding in original system parameters near the bifurcation point by normal form method and center manifold theory. Furthermore, we analyze its local dynamical behaviors, and show the coexistence of a pair of stable periodic solutions. We also show that there coexist a pair of stable small-amplitude periodic solutions and a pair of stable large-amplitude periodic solutions for different initial values. Finally, we give the bifurcation diagram with numerical illustration, showing that the pair of stable small-amplitude periodic solutions can also exist in a large region of unfolding parameters, and the financial system with delay can exhibit chaos via period-doubling bifurcations as the unfolding parameter values are far away from the critical point of the Hopf-pitchfork bifurcation. 相似文献
