We report on the ion-exchange separation of Pt and Pd from the main elements emitted from catalysts of gasoline-fueled cars by exploiting the selective chelating ion exchanger Lewatit MonoPlus TP-214. Pt and Pd were then eluted with a recovery of 92% and 96%, respectively, using an acidified solution of thiourea, and the eluent was analyzed by sequential voltammetry. The detection limits are 0.04 μg L?1 and 1 μg L?1 for Pt and Pd, respectively, and the relative standard deviation is about 4.0% (for n?=?10). The procedure was successfully applied to particles emitted from automobile exhaust catalysts of four capacity engine vehicles. Graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry was also employed for reasons of comparison. Emission by four vehicles with 1400, 2600, 3200, and 4800 cc engines, respectively, ranged from 19 to 28 ng km?1 for Pt, and from 102 to 150 ng km?1 for Pd.

We report on a study on the retention and elution of ions of the precious metals Au, Ir, Pd, Pt, Rh and Ru, sometimes in the presence of ions of the nonprecious elements Co, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Te. A commercial cyano-modified microparticle-based solid phase was used as a sorbent and hydrochloric acid in various concentrations for sample solution and elution. Only Au and Pd (in the form of their chloro complexes) were retained, and Au is found to have a much higher affinity for the sorbent compared to Pd. In addition to the affinity of the metal towards the functional groups, the retention behavior of the precious metals seems to be mainly influenced by steric factors of their respective chloro complexes. Elution with 7.5 M HCl does not require the addition of organic eluent as required in other cases. The method can separate Au or both Au and Pd, from hydrochloric acid solutions containing ions of other precious metals or nonprecious elements. The sorbent was applied to recover gold from a mineral digest containing large amounts of metals such as Fe, Pb, Te, Cu, Ni and Zn.

We have developed a fast method for sensitive extraction and determination of the metal ions silver(I), gold(III), copper(II) and palladium(II). Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles were modified with polythiophene and used for extraction the metal ions without a chelating agent. Following extraction, the ions were determined by flow injection inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. The influence of sample pH, type and volume of eluent, amount of adsorbent, sample volume and time of adsorption and desorption were optimized. Under the optimum conditions, the calibration plots are linear in the 0.75 to 100 μg L?1 concentration range (R2?>?0.998), limits of detection in the range from 0.2 to 2.0 μg L?1, and enhancement factors in the range from 70 to 129. Precisions, expressed as relative standard deviations, are lower than 4.2 %. The applicability of the method was demonstrated by the successful analysis of tap water, mineral water, and river water.

We report on a sensitive, reliable and relatively fast method for separation, preconcentration and determination of trace quantities of copper(II) ion. It is making use of nanometer-sized γ-alumina nanoparticles modified with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The adsorptive potential was assessed via a Langmuir isotherm and the maximal sorption capacity was found to be 138 mg g-1. The effects of pH values, amount of ligand, flow rate, type of eluting agent, volume of eluent, and the volume of sample were examined. The effects of interfering ions on the recovery of the analyte were also investigated. Copper ion was then determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The relative standard deviation for five replicate determinations (at 50 μg L?1 of copper) is 3.3%. The detection limit (at 3 s) is 2.5 μg L?1. This method was validated with a certified reference material of oyster tissue (NIST SRM 1566b) and the results coincided well with the certified values. The procedure was successfully applied to the determination of Cu in water and food samples.

Nanoporous silicas of the type SBA-15 (Santa Barbara Amorphous) and MCM-48 (Mobile Composition of Material) were modified with dipyridylamine (dipy) and used as solid phases for the extraction of Pd(II) ions. The experimental conditions (pH, sample and eluent flow rates, type and quantity of eluent) were optimized. The recovery values were ~ 99.7 and ~ 93.4% for dipy-MCM-48 and dipy-SBA-15, respectively, the limits of detection were <0.08 and <0.11 ng L?1, the pre-concentration factors were 725 and 550, and the adsorption capacity was >78 mg g?1. The procedure was applied to the preconcentration of Pd(II) in real samples.

Graphene nanosheets were modified with amino groups and the resulting material was used as a sorbent for the extraction of cadmium and lead ions. The nanosheets were characterized by IR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis and elemental analysis. The effects of sample pH, eluent parameters (type, concentration and volume of eluent), flow rates (of both sample and eluent), and of a variety of other ions on the efficiency of the extraction of Cd(II) and Pb(II) were optimized. Following solid phase extraction, the elements were determined by FAAS. The limits of detection are <0.9 μg L?1 for Pb(II) and <5 ng L?1 for Cd(II). The relative standard deviations are <2.2 %. The method was validated by analyzing several certified reference materials and was then used for Pb(II) and Cd(II) determination in natural waters and vegetables.

We report on the synthesis of Fe3O4-functionalized metal-organic framework (m-MOF) composite from Zn(II) and 2-aminoterephthalic acid by a hydrothermal reaction. The magnetic composite is iso-reticular and was characterized by FTIR, X-ray diffraction, SEM, magnetization, and TGA. The m-MOF was then applied as a sorbent for the solid-phase extraction of trace levels of copper ions with subsequent quantification by electrothermal AAS. The amount of sorbent applied, the pH of the sample solution, extraction time, eluent concentration and volume, and desorption time were optimized. Under the optimum conditions, the enrichment factor is 50, and the sorption capacity of the material is 2.4 mg g?1. The calibration plot is linear over the 0.1 to 10 μg L?1 Cu(II) concentration range, the relative standard deviation is 0.4 % at a level of 0.1 μg L?1 (for n?=?10), and the detection limit is as low as 73 ng L?1. We consider this magnetic MOF composite to be a promising and highly efficient material for the preconcentration of metal ions.

The fluorescence quenching of quantum dots by hemoglobin has been demonstrated to depend on surface functionalization, and this property has been utilized to construct a novel fluorescent method for rapid, sensitive, and selective detection of trace hemoglobin in urine at microgram level. This method shows low interference and high selectivity for hemoglobin with a limit of detection of 4.3 μg L?1 in water and 66.1 μg L?1 in urine, which are lower than those of currently used methods in labs and clinics. Spike and recovery tests in raw, acidified, and alkalized urine samples exhibit good recovery rates for the spiked concentrations close to the limit of detection.

A fully automated method has been developed for determining eight macrocyclic musk fragrances in wastewater samples. The method is based on headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) followed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Five different fibres (PDMS 7 μm, PDMS 30 μm, PDMS 100 μm, PDMS/DVB 65 μm and PA 85 μm) were tested. The best conditions were achieved when a PDMS/DVB 65 μm fibre was exposed for 45 min in the headspace of 10 mL water samples at 100 °C. Method detection limits were found in the low ng L?1 range between 0.75 and 5 ng L?1 depending on the target analytes. Moreover, under optimized conditions, the method gave good levels of intra-day and inter-day repeatabilities in wastewater samples with relative standard deviations (n?=?5, 1,000 ng L?1) less than 9 and 14 %, respectively. The applicability of the method was tested with influent and effluent urban wastewater samples from different wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The analysis of influent urban wastewater revealed the presence of most of the target macrocyclic musks with, most notably, the maximum concentration of ambrettolide being obtained in WWTP A (4.36 μg L?1) and WWTP B (12.29 μg L?1), respectively. The analysis of effluent urban wastewater showed a decrease in target analyte concentrations, with exaltone and ambrettolide being the most abundant compounds with concentrations varying between below method quantification limit (<MQL) and 2.46 μg L?1.

We have developed a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) probe for the determination of mercury(II) using methimazole-functionalized and cyclodextrin-coated silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). These AgNPs in pH 10 solution containing sodium chloride exhibit strong SERS at 502 cm?1. Its intensity strongly decreases in the presence of Hg(II). This effect serves as the basis for a new method for the rapid, fast and selective determination of trace Hg(II). The analytical range is from 0.50 μg L?1 to 150 μg L?1, and the limit of detection is 0.10 μg L?1. The influence of 11 metal ions commonly encountered in environmental water samples was found to be quite small. The method was applied to the determination of Hg(II) in spiked water samples and gave recoveries ranging from 98.5 to 105.2 % and with relative standard deviations of <3.5 % (n?=?5). The total analysis time is <10 min for a single sample.

Activated carbon was chemically modified with ethyl-3-(2-aminoethylamino)-2-chlorobut-2-enoate to obtain a material for selective solid-phase extraction of trace Au(III), Pd(II) and Pt(IV) prior to their determination by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. Experimental conditions such as effects of pH, shaking time, sample flow rate and volume, elution and interfering ions were studied. The ions Au(III), Pd(II) and Pt(IV) can be quantitatively adsorbed on the new sorbent from solution of pH 1. The adsorbed ions were then eluted with 0.1 mol L?1 hydrochloric acid and containing 4% thiourea. Many common ions do not interfere. The adsorption capacity of the material is 305, 92, and 126 mg g?1 for Au(III), Pd(II) and Pt(IV), respectively, and the detection limits are 5, 11 and 9 ng mL?1. The relative standard deviation is less than 3.0% (n?=?8) under optimum conditions. The method was validated by analyzing two certified reference materials and successfully applied to the preconcentration and determination of these ions in actual samples with satisfactory results.

Parameters affecting solid-phase extraction were systematically studied. This new adsorbent exhibited good characteristics for separation and preconcentration of Au(III), Pd(II) and Pt(IV) in aqueous solution, such as excellent selectivity, fast adsorption equilibrium, high tolerance limits of potentially interfering ions, high enrichment factor and low costs. It also shows relatively high adsorption capacity when compared to several other adsorbents. In addition, the synthetic method of the adsorbent was very simple.  相似文献

A simple, cheap, and nonpolluting method was developed for the cloud point extraction of gold (Au) and palladium (Pd). It is based on the complexation reaction of Au and Pd with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone (PMBP) and micelle mediated extraction of the complex using the non-ionic surfactant poly(ethylene glycol) mono-p-nonylphenyl ether (PONPE 7.5). Under the optimized experimental conditions, the enrichment factors are 16 and 17 for Au and Pd, respectively, for 15?mL of preconcentrated solution. The limits of detection are 3.8???g?L?1 and 1.8???g?L?1 for Au and Pd, respectively. The relative standard deviations are 1.4% for Au and 0.6% for Pd (n?=?11). The method was successfully applied to the determination of Au and Pd in certified reference materials and mine samples.

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are a large class of natural compounds amongst which the esterified 1,2-unsaturated necine base is toxic for humans and livestock. In the present study, a method was developed and validated for the screening and quantification of nine PAs and one PA N-oxide in teas (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) and herbal teas (camomile, fennel, linden, mint, rooibos, verbena). Samples were analysed by HPLC on a RP-column, packed with sub-2 μm core-shell particles, and quantified using tandem mass spectrometry operating in the positive electrospray ionisation mode. These PAs and some of their isomers were detected in a majority of the analysed beverages (50/70 samples). In 24 samples, PA concentrations were above the limit of quantification and the sum of the nine targeted PAs was between 0.021 and 0.954 μg per cup of tea. Thus, in some cases, total concentrations exceed the maximum daily intake recommended by the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment and the UK’s Committee On Toxicity (i.e. 0.007 μg kg?1 bw). Xanthine oxidase (XOD) catalyzes the metabolism of hypoxanthine and xanthine to uric acid, the overproduction of which could cause hyperuricemia, a risk factor for gout. Inhibition of XOD is a major treatment for gout, and biflavonoids have been found to act as XOD-inhibitory compounds. In this study, ultrafiltration liquid chromatography with photodiode-array detection coupled to electrospray-ionization tandem mass spectrometry (UF-LC-PDA–ESI-MS) was used to screen and identify XOD inhibitors from S. tamariscina. High-performance counter-current chromatography (HPCCC) was used to separate and isolate the active constituents of these XOD inhibitors. Furthermore, ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) and triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry (TQ-MS) was used to determine the XOD-inhibitory activity of the obtained XOD inhibitors, and enzyme kinetics was performed with Lineweaver–Burk (LB) plots using xanthine as the substrate. As a result, two compounds in S. tamariscina were screened as XOD inhibitors: 65.31 mg amentoflavone and 0.76 mg robustaflavone were isolated from approximately 2.5 g?S. tamariscina by use of HPCCC. The purities of the two compounds obtained were over 98 % and 95 %, respectively, as determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Lineweaver–Burk plot analysis indicated that amentoflavone and robustaflavone were non-competitive inhibitors of XOD, and the IC 50 values of amentoflavone and robustaflavone for XOD inhibition were 16.26 μg mL?1 (30.22 μmol L?1) and 11.98 μg mL?1 (22.27 μmol L?1), respectively. The IC 50 value of allopurinol, used as the standard, was 7.49 μg mL?1 (46.23 μmol L?1). The results reveal that the method for systematic screening, identification, and isolation of bioactive components in S. tamariscina and for detecting their inhibitory activity using ultrafiltration LC–ESI-MS, HPCCC, and UPLC–TQ-MS is feasible and efficient, and could be expected to extend to screening and separation of other enzyme inhibitors. We have explored the feasibility of using a magnetite-doped eggshell membrane as a magnetic solid phase extraction sorbent for the separation of aluminum ion from aqueous solutions. The sorbent was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. A fast, simple and non-expensive method was then developed for the determination of trace quantities of Al(III) in water and food samples by combining magnetic solid phase extraction with fluorometric quantitation via its highly fluorescent complex with 8-hydroxyquinoline. The effects of pH value, amount of sorbent, sample volume, elution conditions and interfering ions on extraction were optimized. Under optimum conditions, the calibration graph extends from 0.5 to 65.0 μg L?1, the limit of detection is 0.2 μg L?1, and the enrichment factor is 84. The method was validated by the successful analysis of a standard reference material (NIST SRM 1549; nonfat milk powder) and applied to the determination of Al(III) in several waters, black tea, tomato paste and cocoa powder samples. We have developed a gold ion-imprinted polymer (GIP) by incorporating a dipyridyl ligand into an ethylene glycol dimethacrylate matrix which then was coated onto porous silica particles. The material was used for the selective extraction of ultratrace quantities of gold ion from mine stones, this followed by its quantitation by FAAS. The effects of concentration and volume of eluent, pH of the solution, flow rates of sample and eluent, and effect of potentially interfering ions, especially palladium and platinum, was investigated. The limit of detection is <0.2 ng?mL?1, the precision (RSD%) is 1.03 %, and recoveries are >99 %. In order to show the high selectivity and efficiency of the new sorbent, the results were compared to those obtained with more simple sorbents possessing the same functional groups. The accuracy of the method was demonstrated by the accurate determination of gold ions in a certified reference material. To the best of our knowledge, there is no report so far on an imprint for gold ions that has such a selectivity over Pd(II) and Pt(II) ions.

We report on a fast, simple and accurate method for the determination of proline in urine samples by employing a nanostructured film of conducting polypyrrole for electrochemically controlled solid-phase microextraction, and ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) for detection. This method has the advantages of simple sample preparation and a sensitivity of IMS to proline that is higher than that for other amino acids. The calibration curve is linear in the range of 0.5–60 μg L?1 (4–521 nmol L?1), and the detection limit is 0.2 μg L?1. The electrochemical potentials for uptake and release were optimized. The method was successfully applied to the clean-up and quantitation of trace amounts of proline in urine samples.

A fully automated method consisting of microextraction by packed sorbent (MEPS) coupled directly to programmed temperature vaporizer–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (PTV–GC–MS) has been developed to determine the 12 chlorobenzene congeners (chlorobenzene; 1,2-, 1,3-, and 1,4-dichlorobenzene; 1,2,3-, 1,2,4-, and 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene; 1,2,3,4-, 1,2,3,5-, and 1,2,4,5-tetrachlorobenzene; pentachlorobenzene; and hexachlorobenzene) in water samples. The effects of the variables on MEPS extraction, using a C18 sorbent, and the instrumental PTV conditions were studied. The internal standard 1,4-dichlorobenzene d4 was used as a surrogate. The proposed method afforded good reproducibility, with relative standard deviations (RSD %) lower than 12 %. The limits of detection varied between 0.0003 μg L?1 for 1,2,3,4-tetrachlorobenzene and 0.07 μg L?1 for 1,3- and 1,4-dichlorobenzene, while those of quantification varied between 0.001 μg L?1 and 0.2 μg L?1 for the same compounds. Accuracy of the proposed method was confirmed by applying it to the determination of chlorobenzenes in different spiked water samples, including river, reservoir, and effluent wastewater.

We report on a fluorescent probe for the optical (and even bare eye) detection of palladium(II) ion which causes the probe to undergo a strong increase in absorbance and fluorescence. The probe is easily synthesized from rhodamine B hydrazide and 9-anthraldehyde and displays high selectivity over other metal ions. Fluorescence intensity and absorbance are linearly proportional to the concentration of Pd(II) in the 0–7 μM and 0–1 μM concentration range, respectively, with detection limits of 0.21 μM and 0.03 μM. The probe can detect Pd(II) with virtually no interferences by other metal ions and anions. It was applied to intracellular imaging of Pd(II) in living cells and to its determination in a palladium-containing catalyst and in spiked water samples.

Ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography has been used for the separation and analysis of unmodified and modified antisense oligonucleotides. For this reason, we tested various columns of low particle sizes in our analysis of unmodified and phosphorothioate oligonucleotides. The influence of both the type and concentration of ion-pair reagent on the retention of the studied biomolecules was tested. The developed methods were used for separation of unmodified oligonucleotides and to determine antisense oligonucleotides in human serum samples. The results proved that octadecyl and phenyl columns are the most selective in the resolution of oligonucleotides which differ in the position of single nucleotides in the sequence. The phenyl column was selected and applied for the analysis of phosphorothioate oligonucleotides in serum samples. The calibration plots showed good linearity within the test concentration ranges. The intra-day CV of the calibration curve slopes was in the range of 1.6 to 4.2 %. The limits of detection (LODs) were in the range of 0.11–0.16 μg mL?1, while the limit of quantification (LOQ) values were between 0.35 and 0.51 μg mL?1. Figure
