In this paper we examineLF spaces, inductive limits of Fréchet spaces, in two different settings: the categoryCV S of convergence vector spaces and the categoryLC S of locally convex topological vector spaces. Special attention is given to permanence properties and retractivity properties in each case. Some interaction between properties ofLF spaces inCV S and other properties inLC S are investigated.R. A necessary and sufficient condition is presented for a set to be a Pompeiu subset of any compact homogeneous space with a finite invariant measure. The condition, which is expressed in terms of the intertwining operators of each primary summand of the quasi-regular representation, is then interpreted in the case of the compact Heisenberg manifolds. Examples are presented demonstrating that the condition to be Pompeiu in these manifolds is quite different from the corresponding condition for a torus of the same dimension. This provides a contrast with the existing comparison between the Heisenberg group itself and Euclidean space in terms of Pompeiu sets. In addition, the closed linear span of all translates of any square integrable function on any compact homogeneous space is determined.  相似文献

By observing that the infinite triangle obtained from some generalized harmonic numbers follows a Riordan array, we obtain very simple connections between the Stirling numbers of both kinds and other generalized harmonic numbers. Further, we suggest that Riordan arrays associated with such generalized harmonic numbers allow us to find new generating functions of many combinatorial sums and many generalized harmonic number identities.  相似文献

Abstract

In this note we prove that if a linear bounded operator T from l 1 to a Banach space Y is not an isomorphism, then there exists an element f = (f 1, f 2,…) ε l such that |f n| = 1 for every n and dist (f, T*Y*) = 1. This result we apply to Sidon sets in the theory of Fourier series.  相似文献

The Helgason Fourier transform on noncompact Riemannian symmetric spaces G/K is generalized to the homogeneous vector bundles over the compact dual spaces U/K. The scalar theory on U/K was considered by Sherman (the local theory for U/K of arbitrary rank, and the global theory for U/K of rank one). In this paper we extend the local theory of Sherman to arbitrary homogeneous vector bundles on U/K. For U/K of rank one we also obtain a generalization of the Cartan-Helgason theorem valid for any K-type.  相似文献

By the Von Neumann inequality every contraction on a Hilbert space is polynomially bounded. A simple example shows that this result does not extend to Banach space contractions. In this paper, we give general conditions under which an arbitrary Banach space contraction is polynomially bounded. These conditions concern the thinness of the spectrum and the behaviour of the resolvent or the sequence of negative powers. To do this we use techniques from harmonic analysis, in particular, results concerning thin sets such as Helson sets, Kronecker sets and sets that satisfy spectral synthesis.  相似文献

Differentiated means are defined in order to find formulas for jumps of distributions. We analyze two types of jumps occurring in the notions of distributional jump behavior and symmetric jump behavior. We start by defining what we call Riesz differentiated means for numerical series, then the differentiated means are extended to distributional evaluations for the Schwartz class of tempered distributions. The jumps of tempered distributions are completely determined by the differentiated means of the Fourier transform. We also find formulas for the jumps in terms of the asymptotic behavior of partial derivatives of harmonic representations and harmonic conjugate functions. Applications to Fourier series are given. The well-known Ogasawara-Maeda-Vulikh representation theorem asserts that for each Archimedean vector lattice L there exists an extremally disconnected compact Hausdorff space , unique up to a homeomorphism, such that L can be represented isomorphically as an order dense vector sublattice of the universally complete vector lattice C () of all extended-real-valued continuous functions f on for which % MathType!MTEF!2!1!+-% feaafeart1ev1aaatCvAUfeBSjuyZL2yd9gzLbvyNv2CaerbuLwBLn% hiov2DGi1BTfMBaeXafv3ySLgzGmvETj2BSbqefm0B1jxALjhiov2D% aebbfv3ySLgzGueE0jxyaibaiGc9yrFr0xXdbba91rFfpec8Eeeu0x% Xdbba9frFj0-OqFfea0dXdd9vqaq-JfrVkFHe9pgea0dXdar-Jb9hs% 0dXdbPYxe9vr0-vr0-vqpWqaaeaabiGaciaacaqabeaadaqaaqGaaO% qaamaacmqabaGaeqyYdCNaeyicI4SaeyyQdCLaeyOoaOJaaiiFaiab% gkzaMkabgIcaOiabgM8a3jabgMcaPiaacYhacqGH9aqpcqGHEisPai% aawUhacaGL9baaaaa!4E05!\[\left\{ {\omega \in \Omega :|f(\omega )| = \infty } \right\}\] is nowhere dense. Since the early days of using this representation it has been important to find conditions on L such that consists of bounded functions only. The aim of this short article is to present a simple complete characterization of such vector lattices.  相似文献

Local transformation groups acting on a manifold X define a natural action of on a space D(X), of functions on X. The natural action induces a local representation of on a Hilbert subspace of the space of distributions on D(X).  相似文献

In this article a Littlewood-Paley theorem for a new kind of Littlewood-Paley g-functions over spaces of homogeneous type is presented. Based on it the authors establish inhomogeneous discrete Calderón reproducing formulas for spaces of homogeneous type, making use of Calderón-Zygmund operators.  相似文献

There is a pair of commuting operators (T 1,T 2) on Hilbert space such that eachT 1 andT 2 is similar to a contraction but the pair (T 1,T 2) is not similar to a pair of contractions. There is a pair of commuting unitarizable representations (1,2) on the free group withN2 generators such that (1,2) is not similar to a pair of unitary representations. In connection with these examples, we introduce and study a notion of length for aC *-algebra (or an operator algebra) generated by two subalgebras, which is analogous to the minimum length of a word in the generators of a group.Partially supported by the N.S.F.  相似文献

Let A be a complex, commutative Banach algebra and let MA be the structure space of A. Assume that there exists a continuous homomorphism h : L1(G) → A with dense range, where L1(G) is the group algebra of a locally compact abelian group G. The main results of this paper can be summarized as follows: (a) If the dual space A* has the Radon-Nikodym property, then MA is scattered (i.e., it has no nonempty perfect subset) and . (b) If the algebra A has an identity, then the space A* has the Radon-Nikodym property if and only if . Furthermore, any of these conditions implies that MA is scattered. Several applications are given. Received: 29 September 2005  相似文献

Factorizations of Wiener-Hopf type of elements of weighted Wiener algebras of continuous matrix-valued functions on a compact abelian group are studied. The factorizations are with respect to a fixed linear order in the character group (considered with the discrete topology). Among other results, it is proved that if a matrix function has a canonical factorization in one such matrix Wiener algebra then it belongs to the connected component of the identity of the group of invertible elements in the algebra, and moreover, the factors of the canonical factorization depend continuously on the matrix function. In the scalar case, complete characterizations of canonical and noncanonical factorability are given in terms of abstract winding numbers. Wiener-Hopf equivalence of matrix functions with elements in weighted Wiener algebras is also discussed. We present a new construction of finite Gelfand pairs by looking at the action of the full automorphism group of a finite spherically homogeneous rooted tree of type r on the variety V(r,s) of all spherically homogeneous subtrees of type s.This generalizes well-known examples as the finite ultrametric space, the Hamming scheme and the Johnson scheme. We also present further generalizations of these classical examples. The first two are based on Harary's notions of composition and exponentiation of group actions. Finally, the generalized Johnson scheme provides the inductive step for the harmonic analysis of our main construction.  相似文献

G. Choquet and J. Deny have characterized the positive solutions of the convolution equation *= of measures on locally compact abelian groups, for a given positive measure . By elementary methods, we extend their characterization to locally compact nilpotent groups which complements the various existing results on the equation, and we work out the solutions explicitly for the Heisenberg groups and some nilpotent matrix groups, by finding all the exponential functions on these groups.  相似文献

Let G be a locally compact group. We show that its Fourier algebra A(G) is amenable if and only if G has an abelian subgroup of finite index, and that its Fourier–Stieltjes algebra B(G) is amenable if and only if G has a compact, abelian subgroup of finite index. We then show that A(G) is weakly amenable if the component of the identity of G is abelian, and we prove some partial results towards the converse.Research supported by NSERC under grant no. 90749-00.Research supported by NSERC under grant no. 227043-00.  相似文献
