We investigate the conditions under which the chaotic inflationary model can provide sufficient inflation to solve the usual cosmological problems. We use a mixture of analytic and numerical techniques to examine the success of the model in cases where spatial curvatures of the background metric are large and when the scalar field lagrangian includes contributions from velocity terms and spatial gradients. Using the simplest natural measure on the space of initial conditions, we calculate the probability of obtaining sufficient inflation given random initial conditions when velocity terms and curvature terms are included. We find this probability to be large in all cases considered. We also derive conditions under which scalar field inhomogeneities will not affect the viability of inflation.  相似文献

We consider the problem of a Majorana single-particle in a box in (1 + 1) dimensions. We show that the most general set of boundary conditions for the equation that models this particle is composed of two families of boundary conditions, each one with a real parameter. Within this set, we only have four confining boundary conditions—but infinite not confining boundary conditions. Our results are also valid when we include a Lorentz scalar potential in this equation. No other Lorentz potential can be added. We also show that the four confining boundary conditions for the Majorana particle are precisely the four boundary conditions that mathematically can arise from the general linear boundary condition used in the MIT bag model. Certainly, the four boundary conditions for the Majorana particle are also subject to the Majorana condition.  相似文献

We discuss implications of the seaward boundary conditions used in initial-boundary value problem formulation of nonlinear shallow-water wave propagation over a linear slope. We first demonstrate the reflection of wave velocity in the case of Dirichlet condition and that of water elevation in the case of Neumann condition. We then show that linear superposition of the two boundary conditions results in much less reflection at the artificial boundary. We also propose a new boundary condition of mixed type and compare its results with that of the aforementioned conditions.  相似文献

We study numerically the behavior of two-phase flow in porous media via the parameters capillary number and viscosity ratio, under steady-state conditions and various levels of saturation. We construct a phase diagram, where the phases are defined according to whether one or both fluids move. We establish a semi-empirical theory for the location of the phase boundaries. The steady-state conditions are obtained by implementing biperiodic boundary conditions.  相似文献

We investigate the effect of varying boundary conditions on the renormalization group flow in a recently developed noncommutative geometry model of particle physics and cosmology. We first show that there is a sensitive dependence on the initial conditions at unification, so that, varying a parameter even slightly can be shown to have drastic effects on the running of the model parameters. We compare the running in the case of the default and the maximal mixing conditions at unification. We then exhibit explicitly a particular choice of initial conditions at the unification scale, in the form of modified maximal mixing conditions, which have the property that they satisfy all the geometric constraints imposed by the noncommutative geometry of the model at unification, and at the same time, after running them down to lower energies with the renormalization group flow, they still agree in order of magnitude with the predictions at the electroweak scale.  相似文献

We studied synchronization induced by a common external noise in scalar time-delay systems. We have found a set of sufficient conditions for the synchronization. This set of conditions shows that the synchronization occurs in a wide class of time-delay systems. Numerical evidence for the analytically obtained conditions is also presented.  相似文献

We study the renormalization of non-semisimple gauge models quantized in the 't Hooft-background gauge to all orders. We analyze the normalization conditions for masses and couplings compatible with the Slavnov-Taylor and Ward-Takahashi Identities and with the IR constraints. We take into account both the problem of renormalization of CKM matrix elements and the problem of CP violation and we show that the Background Field Method (BFM) provides proper normalization conditions for fermion, scalar and gauge field mixings. We discuss the hard and the soft anomalies of the Slavnov-Taylor Identities and the conditions under which they are absent.  相似文献

We study the finite-size scaling properties of the Ising model on the M?bius strip and the Klein bottle. The results are compared with those of the Ising model under different boundary conditions, that is, the free, cylindrical, and toroidal boundary conditions. The difference in the magnetization distribution function p(m) for various boundary conditions is discussed in terms of the number of the percolating clusters and the cluster size. We also find interesting aspect-ratio dependence of the value of the Binder parameter at T = T(c) for various boundary conditions. We discuss the relation to the finite-size correction calculations for the dimer statistics.  相似文献

We generalize the Gel'fand-Dorfman theorem to Poisson manifolds using the cohomological conditions. We find conditions to construct some compatible Poisson structures (exact cocycle type) suited to the needs of the theorem. Exact Poisson structures on vector spaces are also studied. We present the further development of the three-particle formalism for differential Faddeev equations. The asymptotic boundary conditions in the hyperspherical adiabatic representation have been constructed. We prove that these conditions are asymptotically equivalent to the standard Merkuriev boundary conditions. With these boundary conditions we have formulated the boundary-value problem for Faddeev equations which has the property that the binary channel and the breakup channel are explicitly orthogonal. The effective numerical scheme for solving the formulated boundary-value problem is given.  相似文献

We study the global behavior of two interacting magnetic monopoles in the non-relativistic limit. We identify what appear to be regions in phase space of regular and stochastic motions. We also construct Julia sets, and approximate stable and unstable sets. We predict imprisoned motion for some initial conditions with infinite monopole separation, and note that the set of bounded initial conditions can sometimes separate regular motion from stochastic motion.  相似文献

We study the quantization of two versions of unimodular gravity, namely fully diffeomorphism-invariant unimodular gravity and unimodular gravity with fixed metric determinant, utilizing standard path integral approach. We derive the BRST symmetry of effective actions corresponding to several relevant gauge conditions. We observe that for some gauge conditions, the restricted gauge structure may complicate the formulation and effective actions, in particular, if the chosen gauge conditions involve the canonical momentum conjugate to the induced metric on the spatial hypersurface. The BRST symmetry is extended further to the finite field-dependent BRST transformation, in order to establish the mapping between different gauge conditions in each of the two versions of unimodular gravity.  相似文献

Stability of closed timelike curves in the Gödel universe   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We study, in some detail, the linear stability of closed timelike curves in the Gödel universe. We show that these curves are stable. We present a simple extension (deformation) of the Gödel metric that contains a class of closed timelike curves similar to the ones associated to the original metric. This extension correspond to the addition of matter whose energy-momentum tensor is analyzed. We find the conditions to have matter that satisfies the usual energy conditions. We study the stability of closed timelike curves in the presence of usual matter as well as in the presence of exotic matter (matter that does satisfy the above mentioned conditions). We find that the closed timelike curves in the Gödel universe with or without the inclusion of regular or exotic matter are stable under linear perturbations. We also find a sort of structural stability.  相似文献

We consider a reaction-diffusion system, consisting of two coupled PDEs with equal diffusion coefficients, describing autocatalysis under isothermal conditions in a slab. With enforced symmetric boundary conditions only stationary or simple periodic behaviour occurs. When the symmetry is broken by enforcing non-symmetric boundary conditions we have obtained bi-periodic solutions. We have also obtained oscillations essentially confined to one half of the spatial domain.  相似文献

We calculate the spectrum of the resonant transition radiation generated by a fast charged particle moving in plasma with small-scale random magnetic inhomogeneities. We determine the conditions under which this type of transition radiation dominates over the transition radiation on plasma density inhomogeneities. We discuss possible applications of the resonant transition radiation in astrophysical and geophysical conditions.  相似文献
