The stabilizing effects of dispersion management (DM) at second and third order are studied for both single-channel and wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) systems. We first derive a model for the slow evolution of a pulse in an optical fiber with high-order dispersion management (HODM). For single-channel systems, in contrast with conventional DM with constant third-order dispersion, this equation possesses a stable solution, the ground state for its associated Hamiltonian, which propagates nearly periodically under direct numerical simulation. Improved performance for WDM systems is also observed, as complicated pulse interactions, which can lead to undesirable effects such as frequency shift, are prevented by HODM.  相似文献

We examine the properties of dispersion-managed (DM) solitons in fiber lines with dispersion-compensation period L much shorter than amplification distance Z(a) . DM solitons in systems with short-scale dispersion compensation have reduced power compared with DM solitons in previously studied regimes with L>/=Z(a) power (for the same local and average dispersion and the same pulse width). As a result, chirped DM soliton transmission with reasonably low power can be realized with shorter pulses when DM solitons in systems with large L/Z(a) ratios have energies that are too high to be used in practice.  相似文献

Four-wave mixing induced by modulation instability in a single-mode fiber is analyzed from the phase-matching point of view. For the two-channel transmission, a method is proposed to select the four-wave-mixing-induced sidebands, which is based on the proper use of a continuous-wave and a pulse as light sources. We find that a mass of sidebands are generated in the modulation instability resonance region, and the power of the sideband increases with not only the peak power of the pump pulse but also the continuous-wave power which acts as a seed. The research will provide guidance for fiber communication and sensing systems using wavelength division multiplexing technology.  相似文献

研究了非线性光纤光栅在禁带内对光脉冲的压缩机制,结果表明这是一介储能-调出禁带的过程,入射脉冲首先在光纤光栅中激发能量密度波包,它是有限长光纤光栅中的准孤立波,其在光纤光栅输出端的能量损失形成输出脉冲,并决定了输出脉冲的脉宽和峰值功率。在脉冲压缩过程中,自振荡效应可以导致输出脉冲的分裂,利用这种效应可以提高脉冲压缩比。  相似文献

The polarization properties of concatenations of trunks of birefringent fibers and elements with polarization-dependent losses are analyzed. We show both theoretically and experimentally that the concatenation can have zero differential group delay over a whole range of wavelengths but that a pulse propagating down the concatenation can still experience significant pulse spreading. In this example the two main methods used for characterizing polarization mode dispersion in optical fiber systems, i.e., Jones matrix eigenanalysis and the interferometric method, give different results. This counterintuitive example underlines the need for a careful assessment of the basic concepts related to polarization effects in the presence of polarization-dependent losses.  相似文献

An asymptotic theory for optical pulse propagation in a dispersion-managed (DM) fiber with random dispersion is presented. The validity of the theory is verified with direct numerical simulation. The equations that describe the slow evolution of initial pulses have special solutions that, for fibers with moderate noise in the dispersion profile, perform much better than ideal DM solitons optimized for the unperturbed fiber.  相似文献

利用单模光纤PMD矢量与Jones矩阵之间的关系,推导了由该矢量表示的光纤二阶PMD的Jones矩阵解析表达式,利用该矩阵可以确定输出端时域脉冲在二阶PMD近似下的表达式,并由此仿真二阶PMD对信号传输质量的影响.通过比较输入与输出信号脉冲波形和眼图发现,随着传输速率和传输距离的增加输出信号劣化.最后结果表明,当主偏振态的旋转速率为零时,二阶PMD的影响可以忽略;但当其值增大时,输出信号劣化严重.在光纤通信系统设计时,需要考虑偏振模色散影响分析结果,可提供参考依据.  相似文献

We numerically investigate and compare the performance of fiber nonlinearity compensation using digital back propagation (DBP) method and pilot-aided method in coherent optical transmission systems using different fiber links. Simulations for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) 112 Gb/s polarization division multiplexed quadrature phase shift keying (PDM-QPSK) systems with dispersion unmanaged (no DM) and dispersion managed (DM) fiber links are implemented. System Q-factor and maximum transmission distance at bit error rate (BER) of 3.8 ÿ 10?3 are calculated for performance comparison. The results show that, for system with no DM fiber link, DBP method outperforms pilot-aided method, because DBP method has better performance for intra-channel fiber nonlinearity compensation. However, for system with DM fiber link where inter-channel fiber nonlinearity plays an important role, pilot-aided method performs better than DBP method, because of its ability for inter-channel fiber nonlinearity compensation.  相似文献

The observation of dark pulse in a dispersion-managed fiber ring laser with net negative cavity group velocity dispersion (GVD) is reported. Both bright and dark pulses can be obtained in our fiber laser. When we appropriately adjust the cavity birefringence to achieve triple-wavelength mode-locked operation in the laser by rotating the polarization controller, the bright pulse could be switched to dark pulse. It is believed that the dark dispersion-managed (DM) pulse generation is caused by the linear and nonlinear intermodulation effects among the three wavelength pulses.  相似文献

We present the experimentally determined optical bend loss for random hole optical fibers in the spectral range 1520 to 1570 nm induced by wrapping the optical fiber around a fixed diameter mandrel. The optical losses are compared to those obtained for a single-mode fiber and a multimode fiber using the same bending procedures. The bending induced optical losses in the random hole optical fibers were several orders of magnitude lower than for the single-mode fiber and were about 1 order of magnitude lower than for the multimode fiber.  相似文献

针对微波脉冲激励下复杂屏蔽腔体内部电路耦合电磁量计算的问题,建立了一个微波混沌腔体,通过测试获取了含内部电路的腔体辐射和辐射散射参数,利用随机耦合模型(RCM),对干扰脉冲能量进行了归一化处理,计算分析了微波脉冲宽度、脉冲间隔、脉冲数目以及腔体损耗因子对目标点感应电磁量统计分布的影响。计算结果表明:脉冲干扰下电路目标点耦合电磁量强于功率源激励;在脉冲能量一定的条件下,目标点耦合电磁量与微波脉冲的宽度、间隔和数目的变化均呈现一定的谐振特性,且单脉冲激励对电路的影响明显强于多脉冲。与此同时,实验还研究了电路易受电磁干扰的目标点的确定方法。  相似文献

Under small signal situation, the analytical expression for describing the output signal emitted from an Yb3+-doped fiber amplifier with a Gaussian input pulse signal is deduced, by full considering both fiber guided modes’ propagation constant and filling factor, which depend on the signal frequency. Pumped by continue wave (CW) source, the analytical expressions of the small signal gain and each guided mode's output power are obtained. Based on these analytical expressions, the various intensity distributions of output pulses amplified by the fiber amplifier with different Gaussian input pulse widths are analyzed.  相似文献

We develop a numerical model to explore the polarization-dependent compression of multi-mJ laser pulses in a gas-filled hollow fiber. We show how losses and instabilities due to cycling of pulse energy between fiber modes can be efficiently minimized using circularly polarized light and adjusting simple experimental parameters such as pulse energy, chirp and gas pressure. This should help scale the peak power of few-cycle pulses available for high-field experiments using standard hollow fiber compressors. We also discuss the limits of this approach.  相似文献

Experimental, analytical, and numerical investigation of the transient reflectivity of the electromagnetic pulse from an antireflective structure with losses is conducted. Analytical investigations have shown that the envelope of the amplitude modulated reflected signal changes significantly even under small losses. In this paper, the influences of the dispersion distribution in the cavity on the output pulse properties of the all-normaldispersion(ANDi) fiber laser are investigated. Our simulations show that, as the relative length of the dispersion fiber increases, the temporal width and the spectral bandwidth of the output pulse for an ANDi fiber laser with fixed total cavity dispersion or fiber length are decreased, while the pulse energy is enhanced and the compressed pulse width is increased.These simulation predictions have been proved by our experimental results. The reason may be that the nonlinear phase shift accumulated in the nonlinear fiber is more than that in the dispersion fiber if they have the same length.  相似文献

The crosstalk in WDM systems caused by cross-phase modulation (XPM) in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers(EDFA) was studied analytically. The results confirm that the EDFA induced phase shift does cause crosstalk in WDM systems. The crosstalk between two channels both with modulated pulse signals is studied for the first time. It was found that the EDFA induced phase shift will cause serious deterioration of the eye diagram when the optical signals continue to travel in the normal-dispersion regime of the transmission fiber, while in the anomalous-dispersion regime this phase shift will not cause much deterioration of the eye diagram.  相似文献

讨论了应用于光纤分布式布里渊传感散射谱最优化拟合的Levenberg-Marquardt(L-M)非线性最小二乘算法。分析并推导了一种可较好地反映入纤脉冲宽度越来越窄所引起的光纤分布式布里渊传感散射谱形状变化的Pseu-do-Voigt分析拟合模型。由调制脉冲光和调制器泄漏连续光共同作用所产生的光纤分布式布里渊传感散射谱应为Lorentzian型谱和Gaussian型谱的线性权重组合。Gaussian型函数部分可视为Lorentzian型函数谱的近似修正处理。基于L-M算法对光纤布里渊传感散射谱采样数据进行了曲线拟合和最优化参数估计,所得到的结果与理论分析情况吻合。  相似文献
