We report measurements of the quantum Hall state energy gap at avoided crossings between Landau levels originating from different conduction band valleys in AlAs quantum wells. These gaps exhibit an approximately linear dependence on the magnetic field over a wide range of fields and filling factors. More remarkably, we observe an unexpected dependence of the gap size on the relative spin orientation of the crossing levels, with parallel-spin crossings exhibiting larger gaps than antiparallel-spin crossings.  相似文献

Avoided crossings of discrete states as well as of resonance states are traced back to the existence of branch points (BPs) which are singular points in the complex energy plane. They cannot be identified with exceptional points. At a BP width bifurcation occurs, different Riemann sheets evolve and the levels do not cross anymore when the system is still further opened. The BPs are physically meaningful: they influence the dynamics of open as well as of closed quantum systems. The geometric phase that arises by encircling a BP, is different from the phase that appears by encircling a diabolic point. This is found to be true even for the two BPs into which the diabolic point is unfolded by opening the system. From the eigenvalue equationH \ n () =E n ()\ n () withH H 0 +V one can derive an autonomous system of first order differential equations for the eigenvaluesE n () and the matrix elementsV mn () where is the independent variable. To solve the dynamical system we need the initial valuesE n ( = 0) and \ n ( = 0). Thus one finds the motion of the energy levelsE n (). We discuss the question of energy level crossing. Furthermore we describe the connection with the stationary state perturbation theory. The dependence of the survival probability as well as some thermodynamic quantities on is derived. This means we calculate the differential equations which these quantities obey. Finally we derive the equations of motion for the extended caseH =H 0 +V 1 + 2 V 2 and give an application to a supersymmetric Hamiltonian.  相似文献

The sfermion-mass spectrum of the minimal supersymmetric standard model is investigated at the one-loop level. An on-shell scheme has been specified for renormalization of the basic breaking parameters of the sfermionic sector. Owing to SU(2)-invariance, the soft-breaking mass parameters of the left-chiral scalar fermions of each isospin doublet are identical. Thus, one of the sfermion masses of each doublet can be expressed in terms of the other masses and receives a mass shift at the one-loop level with respect to the lowest-order value, which can be of O(10 GeV). We have measured the energy-level structure of high mobility, strongly coupled bilayer two-dimensional electron systems in tilted magnetic fields by means of magnetotransport experiments. At tilt angles where single-particle levels with opposite spin and symmetry cross, we observe a surprising sudden broadening of the quantum Hall plateaus and a deepening of the Shubnikov–de Haas minima. This observation is explained by an interaction-induced rearrangement of the energy level structure which strongly increases the energetic splitting of two (anti-)crossing levels.  相似文献

By developing an approach by which we are able to quickly obtain spectra and eigenstates, we reveal for what is believed to be the first time the two novel phenomena of magic numbers and erratic level crossings in double-well Bose-Einstein condensates of N atoms. For N < or = 27 and values of U/J that are not too small (U is the two-body interaction strength, and J is the hopping parameter), systems with even atoms are shown to be much more stable than those with odd atoms, and hence even integers play a role in such systems as if they were the magic numbers of nuclei. For N > or = 30, erratic level crossings occur as NU > J.  相似文献

Generalising previous work on static strong Coulomb fields to the time-dependent case, we propose an alternative e + e - -pair production mechanism relying on avoided crossing transitions between positive and negative energy states. The sea level cosmic ray muon spectrum at 89° has been estimated from the primary nucleon spectrum estimated after the latest JACEE measurements. The p-A collision cross section has been considered for hadronic energy moments calculations. The meson atmospheric diffusion equations after Bugaev et al. have been used in this analysis. The calculated large zenith angle muon spectrum is well in accord with the latest MUTRON data for cosmic ray muons arriving at zenith angles 86° to 90°.On leave from Indian Association for the cultivation of Science, Calcutta 700032, India.  相似文献

We have studied the Ho3+ spin dynamics for LiY0.998Ho0.002F4 via the positive muon (mu+) transverse field depolarization rate lambdaTF as a function of temperature and magnetic field. We find sharp minima in lambdaTF(H) at fields for which the Ho3+ ion system has field-induced (avoided) level crossings. The reduction scales with calculated level repulsions, suggesting that mu+ depolarization by slow fluctuations of nonresonant Ho3+ spin states is partly suppressed when resonant tunneling opens new fluctuation channels at frequencies much greater than the muon precession frequency.  相似文献

We report conductance measurements of ballistic one-dimensional (1D) wires defined in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures in an in-plane magnetic field, B. When the Zeeman energy is equal to the 1D subband energy spacing, the spin-split subband N upward arrow intersects (N+1) downward arrow, where N is the index of the spin-degenerate 1D subband. At the crossing of N=1 upward arrow and N=2 downward arrow subbands, there is a spontaneous splitting giving rise to an additional conductance structure evolving from the 1.5(2e(2)/h) plateau. With further increase in B, the structure develops into a plateau and lowers to 2e(2)/h. With increasing temperature and magnetic field the structure shows characteristics of the 0.7 structure. Our results suggest that at low densities a spontaneous spin splitting occurs whenever two 1D subbands of opposite spins cross.  相似文献

In the present article we perform analytical and numerical calculations related to persistent currents in 2D isolated mesoscopic annular cavities threaded by a magnetic flux. The system considered has a high number of open channels and therefore the single particle spectrum exhibits many level crossings as the flux varies. Mixed traffic flux composed of crossing pedestrians and vehicles extensively exists in cities. To study the characteristics of the interference traffic flux, we develop a pedestrian-vehicle cellular automata model to present the interaction behaviors on a simple cross road. By realizing the fundamental parameters (i.e. injecting rates α1, α2, the extracting rate β and the pedestrian arrival rate αP), simulations are carried out. The vehicular traffic flux is calculated in terms of rates. The effect of the crosswalk can be regarded as a dynamic impurity. The system phase diagrams in the (α1,αP) plane are built. It is found that the phase diagrams consist essentially of four phases namely Free Flow, Congested, Maximal Current and Gridlock. The value of the Maximal current phase depends on the extracting rate β, while the Gridlock phase is achieved only when the pedestrians generating rate is higher than a critical value. Furthermore, the effect of vehicles changing lane (Pch1,Pch2) and the location of the crosswalk XP on the dynamic characteristics of vehicles flow are investigated. It is found that traffic situation in the system is slightly enhanced if the location of the crosswalks XP is far from the intersection. However, when Pch1, Pch2 increase, the traffic becomes congested and the Gridlock phase enlarges.  相似文献
