We calculate the next-to-leading-order QCD corrections to J/psi polarization at the Fermilab Tevatron and CERN Large Hadron Collider. Our results show that the J/psi polarization status drastically changes from transverse-polarization dominant at leading order to longitudinal-polarization dominant at next-to-leading order. Although the theoretical evaluation predicts a larger longitudinal polarization than the value measured at the Tevatron, it may provide a solution towards the previous large discrepancy for J/psi polarization between theoretical predication and experimental measurement.  相似文献

Presented are the Tevatron Run I QCD results that have been known for the degree of controversy associated with them. Also, the prospects for the QCD-motivated studies at Tevatron Run II and LHC are briefly discussed.  相似文献

We calculate the leading electroweak corrections to the light neutral Higgs boson production via qq → WH at the Fermilab Tevatron in both the standard model and the minimal supersymmetric model, which arise from the top-quark and Higgs boson loop diagrams. We found that the leading electroweak corrections can exceed the QCD corrections for favorable values of the parameters in the MSSM, but such corrections are only about -2%~-4% in the SM, which are much smaller than the QCD corrections. For the mass region of 90 < mh, < 120 GeV, the leading electroweak corrections can reach -20% for large tan β, and these corrections may be observable at a high luminosity Tevatron; at the least, new constraints on the tan β can be established.  相似文献

Measurements of the forward-backward production asymmetry of heavy quarks in Z decays provide a precise determination of . The asymmetries are sensitive to QCD effects, in particular hard gluon radiation. In this paper QCD corrections for and are discussed. The interplay between the experimental techniques used to measure the asymmetries and the QCD effects is investigated using simulated events. A procedure to estimate the correction needed for experimental measurements is proposed, and some specific examples are given. Received: 26 February 1998 / Published online: 2 June 1998  相似文献

A new QCD calculation is summarized for the transverse momentum distribution of photon pairs produced by QCD subprocesses, including all-orders soft-gluon resummation valid at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. Resummation is needed to obtain reliable predictions in the range of transverse momentum where the cross-section is the largest. Results are compared with data from the Fermilab Tevatron and predictions are made for the large hadron collider. The QCD continuum is shown to have a softer spectrum than the Higgs boson signal at the LHC.   相似文献

We study the double-diffractive production of various heavy systems (e.g. Higgs, dijet, and SUSY particles) at LHC and Tevatron collider energies. In each case we compute the probability that the rapidity gaps, which occur on either side of the produced system, survive the effects of soft rescattering and QCD bremsstrahlung effects. We calculate both the luminosity for different production mechanisms, and a wide variety of subprocess cross sections. The results allow numerical predictions to be readily made for the cross sections of all these processes at the LHC and the Tevatron collider. For example, we predict that the cross section for the exclusive double-diffractive production of a 120 GeV Higgs boson at the LHC is about 3 fb, and that the QCD background in the decay mode is about 4 times smaller than the Higgs signal if the experimental missing-mass resolution is 1 GeV. For completeness we also discuss production via or WW fusion. Received: 7 November 2001 / Revised version: 11 December 2001 / Published online: 25 January 2002  相似文献

We present predictions for four-jet production at the Tevatron Collider. The standard QCD production of four-jet final states through 2→4-parton processes is compared to the double-parton scattering production.  相似文献

We report on the calculation of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production of top–antitop-quark pairs in association with a hard jet at the Tevatron and at the LHC. Results for integrated and differential cross sections are presented. We find a significant reduction of the scale dependence. In most cases the corrections are below 20% indicating that the perturbative expansion is well under control. Moreover, the forward–backward charge asymmetry of the top quark, which is analyzed at the Tevatron, is studied at next-to-leading order. We find large corrections, suggesting that the definition of the observable has to be refined.  相似文献

QCD predictions for asymmetries in largep T polarized photon reactions on a polarized target are given. Taking cross-section differences is shown to yield new tests of QCD. Double inclusive cross section measurements provide a direct way to measure the distribution function of polarized gluons in the proton.  相似文献

We investigate the QCD Compton effect γqgq by using Monte Carlo, methods to simulate complete three jet events for photon-nucleon interactions. This process provides unique possibilities for jet studies because the incoming photon transfers its entire energy to the final state gluon and quark jets. We present a number of predictions for photons in the range of energies presently available up to Tevatron energies and find that the QCD Compton effect will dominate over vector meson dominance at large gluon transverse momenta.  相似文献

Results for the complete NLO electroweak corrections to Standard Model Higgs production via gluon fusion are included in the total cross section for hadronic collisions. Artificially large threshold effects are avoided working in the complex-mass scheme. The numerical impact at LHC (Tevatron) energies is explored for Higgs mass values up to 500 GeV (200 GeV). Assuming a complete factorization of the electroweak corrections, one finds a +5% shift with respect to the NNLO QCD cross section for a Higgs mass of 120 GeV both at the LHC and the Tevatron. Adopting two different factorization schemes for the electroweak effects, an estimate of the corresponding total theoretical uncertainty is computed.  相似文献

We present an implementation of heavy quarkonium production within a perturbative QCD cascade based on the Color Dipole Cascade model. We consider the processes most relevant in the context of the ψ′ surplus at the Tevatron; gψ′ and cψ′ in the color-singlet model and gψ′ through the color-octet mechanism. Our implementation is, however, easily extendible to other quarkonia and other production mechanisms. Where comparison is possible we find good agreement with analytical calculations. We present some suggestions for measurements at the Tevatron that would be sensitive to the shape of the fragmentation functions. Our calculations indicate that such measurements could be used to test the color-octet mechanism solution to the ψ′ surplus at the Tevatron.  相似文献

A comprehensive survey is presented of the polarization structure of the leading order QCD processes for the production of jets at largep t in photon-photon collisions which are the result of colliding positrons. Results are given for asymmetries. It is shown that by separating events with various jet topologies it is possible to investigate different aspects of polarization and QCD. For instance the four anf three jet process asymmetries are found to be sensitive to the relative magnitudes of the perturbative anf non-perturbative components of the photon structure function. A discussion is given of the usefulness of polarization in separating the two gluon jet subprocess. It is concluded that such experiments could be very useful in understanding QCD and the strong interactions.  相似文献

We consider QCD radiative corrections to standard model Higgs-boson production in association with a W boson in hadron collisions. We present a fully exclusive calculation up to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD perturbation theory. To perform this NNLO computation, we use a recently proposed version of the subtraction formalism. Our calculation includes finite-width effects, the leptonic decay of the W boson with its spin correlations, and the decay of the Higgs boson into a bb pair. We present selected numerical results at the Tevatron and the LHC.  相似文献

A unitarized eikonal model including semi-hard QCD effects is developed to explain the dominant features in elastic scattering and particle production, with special emphasis on the violations of KNO scaling and on the growth of forward-backward correlations. A quantitative agreement with existent data is achieved. Predictions are given for particle production and correlations at Tevatron and SSC energies.  相似文献

We review theoretical calculations for top-quark production that include complete next-to-leading-order QCD corrections as well as higher-order soft-gluon corrections from threshold resummation. We discuss in detail the differences between various approaches that have appeared in the literature and review results for top-quark total cross sections and differential distributions at the Tevatron and the LHC.  相似文献

We discuss forward-backward charge asymmetries for lepton-pair production in association with a large-transverse-momentum jet at hadron colliders. The lepton charge asymmetry relative to the jet direction A(j)(FB) gives a new determination of the effective weak mixing angle sin((2)theta(lept)(eff)(M(2)(Z)) with a statistical precision after cuts of approximately 10(-3) (8x10(-3)) at LHC (Tevatron). This is to be compared with the current uncertainty at LEP and SLD from the asymmetries alone, 2x10(-4). The identification of b jets also allows for the measurement of the bottom-quark-Z asymmetry A(b)(FB) at hadron colliders, the resulting statistical precision for sin((2)theta(lept)(eff)(M(2)(Z)) being approximately 9x10(-4) (2x10(-2) at Tevatron), also lower than the reported precision at e(+)e(-) colliders, 3x10(-4).  相似文献

We present total rates and kinematic distributions for the associated production of a single bottom quark and a Higgs boson at the Fermilab Tevatron and CERN Large Hardon Collider. We include next-to-leading order QCD corrections and compare the results obtained in the four and five flavor number schemes for parton distribution functions.  相似文献
