The combinatorial synthesis of oligo(phenylene ethynylene) tetramers, both in solution and on solid support, is described. These products are of interest for molecular electronics applications. An iterative sequence, coupling of aryl halides to alkynes under Sonogashira conditions, was used. Five monomers functionalized with electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups were synthesized, and used to generate a library of 25 trimers in a solution-phase based process. A library of 24 tetramers was prepared by subsequent protodesilylation and coupling with the alligator clip 4-iodo-1-thioacetylbenzene. The solution-phase based sequence was successfully adapted to a higher yielding directed split-and-pool solid-phase process, with average yields of 78–86% for each step over seven steps. A triazene linker group was used to attach the starting monomer to the polymer beads. At the completion of the solid-phase-based process, traceless cleavage of trimers from the resin was achieved by sonication of the resin in 10% HCl/THF solution. The released products were then poised for the final step in the sequence, attachment of the alligator clip.  相似文献

利用Sonogashira偶合反应合成了两种新的含磺酸根侧链的聚苯乙炔-吡啶类共轭聚合物P1, P2. 通过紫外-可见吸收光谱和荧光光谱对其光学性质及Cu2+传感检测进行了研究. 结果表明, 按一定比例嵌段引入吡啶环的聚合物P1能有效地改善共轭主链的刚性, 提高检测的灵敏度, 使共轭聚合物具有更优异的荧光化学传感性能. 在甲醇溶剂中, P1 的荧光能被Cu2+有效地猝灭, 相对单体模型分子PESO3, 其响应信号扩大222倍.  相似文献

In this contribution, we report the synthesis of chiral all‐conjugated branched poly(phenylene ethynylenes) with a controlled amount of branching. Subsequently, the self‐assembly of these PPEs is studied by means of UV–vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, and DSC and the influence of branching is investigated. Two new poly(phenylene ethynylene)s with alkoxyphenyl substituents were synthesized and characterized. The polymers were amorphous, dissolved readily in common organic solvents, and showed glass‐transition temperatures at 162–175 °C. They showed blue photoluminescence both in solution and in the solid state due to the steric interaction between the substituents and the main chain that caused an interruption of the conjugation length. The quantum yields in a tetrahydrofuran solution were up to 0.63. Excimer emission was the dominant product of the photoexcitation of thin films of the polymers. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(2,5-bis[N-methyl-N-hexylamino] phenylene vinylene) (BAM-PPV) has been studied for several decades as an anti-corrosion coating. Although the polymer is readily synthesized via base-promoted radical chain polymerization, BAM-PPV exhibits poor solubility at high-molecular weights (Mw > 100 kDa), which limits its applications. In this work, the molecular weight of BAM-PPV was modulated with nitrobenzene. At nitrobenzene loading as low as 0.9 mol%, the polymerization reaction produced low-molecular weight BAM-PPV (Mw = 5–46 kDa). The polymerization of BAM-PPV was systematically studied via size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and 1H NMR spectroscopy, which revealed suppression of the dimer intermediate before chain polymerization. Collectively, this work could expand the practical applications of BAM-PPV for use in optoelectronic devices or corrosion inhibition coatings.  相似文献

A derivative of poly(p‐phenylene ethynylene) was subjected to the palladium‐catalyzed three‐component coupling reactions with aryl halides and phenylboronic acid to obtain polymers having tetrasubstituted cis‐vinylene units. For example, 69% of the acetylene units in the prepolymer were converted to cis‐vinylene (i.e., tetrasubstituted cis‐vinylene) units using iodobenzene and phenylboronic acid (5 equiv each with respect to acetylene units). In the UV–vis absorption spectra of the resulting polymers, clear hypsochromic shifts of the absorption maxima were observed, while bathochromic shifts and suppression of the efficiency were observed in their photoluminescence spectra. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new poly(p‐phenylene ethynylene) derivative with pendant 2,2′‐bipyridyl groups and glycol units (PPE‐bipy) has been prepared, and its metal ion sensing properties were investigated. The polymer of PPE‐bipy exhibited high selectivity for Hg2+ as compared with Li+, Na+, K+, Ba2+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Al3+, Mn2+, Ag+, Zn2+, Pb2+, Ni2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, Co,2+ and Fe3+ in THF/EtOH (1:1, v/v) solution. The fluorescence of PPE‐bipy was efficiently quenched by Hg2+ ions, and the detection limit was found to be 8.0 nM in a THF/EtOH (1:1, v/v) solvent system. PPE‐bipy also showed a selective chromogenic behavior toward Hg2+ ions by changing the color of the solution from slight yellow to colorless, which can be detected with the naked eye. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary: Conjugated poly(p‐phenylene ethynylene) networks with interesting optoelectronic properties were synthesized by the palladium‐catalyzed polycondensation of 2,5‐diiodo‐4‐[(2‐ethylhexyl)oxy]methoxybenzene, and 1,4‐diethynyl‐2,5‐bis‐(octyloxy)benzene, with 1,2,4‐tribromobenzene as cross‐linker. The cross‐linker concentration was varied and materials with different cross‐link densities were prepared. The materials were processed into films by simultaneous polymerization and shaping. An alternative approach is to synthesize these cross‐linked polymers in the form of spherical particles, which can be processed from dispersions.

Poly(ortho‐phenylene ethynylene)s (PoPEs) have been synthesized via an in situ activation/coupling AB′ polycondensation protocol. The resulting polymers have been characterized by several analytical methods and are shown to have no structural defects. Although the Sonogashira–Hagihara polycondensation reaction is less efficient than for the preparation of the corresponding meta‐ and para‐linked polymers, presumably because of steric hindrance caused by the ortho substituents, the process can be accelerated by the use of microwave irradiation. Optical spectroscopy indicates solvent‐dependent conformational changes between extended transoid and helical cisoid conformations, providing the first experimental evidence for solvophobically driven folding of the PoPE backbone. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, a simplified route to synthesize soluble, spiro‐bridged ladder‐type poly(p‐phenylene)s (spiro‐LPPP) was developed. The new, simplified synthesis route for spiro‐LPPP involves two reaction steps: a single‐stranded precursor polymer containing diaryloylbenzene building blocks was obtained by the Suzuki reaction, followed by a subsequent twofold cyclization cascade using methanesulfonic acid to form the target spiro‐LPPP. Spiro‐LPPP shows a well‐defined chemical structure, high molecular weight (Mn of 17,500 g/mol with a polydispersity index of 2.0), excellent thermal stability (5% weight loss at 370 °C), and good solubility in common organic solvents. Spiro‐LPPP emits blue light (λmax,em = 455 nm) with the high solution PL quantum yield (94%). The spectral properties of spiro‐LPPP in the solid state are very similar to the solution properties, thus indicating a low degree of intermolecular aggregation. After annealing a thin film of spiro‐LPPP to 120 °C in air for 3 to 24 h, its emission spectrum is unchanged, reflecting excellent thermooxidative stability. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A sterically encumbered m‐terphenyl oxacyclophane substituted with two aryl iodide substituents has been prepared as a versatile monomer for the preparation of π‐conjugated polymers. The monomer has been used to prepare a poly(p‐phenylene ethynylene) derivative (P1) incorporating oxacyclophane units as canopies that shield one side of the π‐system from inter‐chain interactions. The photophysical properties of P1 in dilute solution compare well to those of a poly(p‐phenylene ethynylene) derivative (P2) that lacks the canopy. The presence of the steric canopy leads to a diminished inter‐chain interaction in the solid state and enhances the kinetic response of P1 to vapors of nitro‐organics such as TNT, presumably by increasing the permeability of P1 to these analytes over that of P2.
