The maximal Fejér operator on real Hardy spaces

We prove that the maximal Fej'er operator is not bounded on the real Hardy spaces H ¹, which may be considered over and . We also draw corollaries for the corresponding Hardy spaces over ² and ². This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Some notes on strongly E*-unitary inverse semigroups

In this paper, we give a direct proof that every strongly inverse semigroup can be embedded into a 0-semidirect product of a semilattice with zero by a group. As a corollary, we obtain a new proof of the structure theory of strongly inverse semigroups described in [1]. We also prove that the strongly inverse semigroups are precisely inverse semigroups equipped with a , idempotent pure prehomomorphism to a primitive inverse semigroup.     

The bandwidth of the complement of A K-TREE

The minimal number of pieces realizing affine congruence by dissection of topological discs

Let be a group of affine transformations of the plane that contains a strict contraction and all translations. It is shown that any two topological discs are congruent dissection with respect to such that only three topological discs are used as pieces of dissection. Two pieces of dissection do not suffice in general even if consists of all affine transformations. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Graph homology of the moduli space of pointed real curves of genus zero

The moduli space parameterizes the isomorphism classes of S-pointed stable real curves of genus zero which are invariant under relabeling by the involution σ. This moduli space is stratified according to the degeneration types of σ-invariant curves. The degeneration types of σ-invariant curves are encoded by their dual trees with additional decorations. We construct a combinatorial graph complex generated by the fundamental classes of strata of . We show that the homology of is isomorphic to the homology of our graph complex. We also give a presentation of the fundamental group of .      

Large deviations of the steady-state distribution of reflected processes with applications to queueing systems

We consider a Skorohod map which takes paths in to paths which stay in the positive orthant . We let be the domain of definition of . A convex and lower semi-continuous function and a set are given. We are concerned with the calculation of the infimum of the value for t ⩾ 0 and absolutely continuous subject to the conditions and . We show that such minimization problems characterize large deviation asymptotics of tail probabilities of the steady-state distribution of certain reflected processes. We approximate the infimum by a sequence of finite-dimensional minimization problems. This approximation allows to formulate an algorithm for the calculation of the infimum and to derive analytical bounds for its value. Several applications are discussed including large deviations of generalized processor sharing and large deviations of heavily loaded queueing networks. Pseudo algebraically closed fields over rings

We prove that for almost allσ ∈G ℚ the field has the following property: For each absolutely irreducible affine varietyV of dimensionr and each dominating separable rational mapϕ:V→ there exists a point a ∈ such thatϕ(a) ∈ ℤ^r. We then say that is PAC over ℤ. This is a stronger property then being PAC. Indeed we show that beside the fields other fields which are algebraic over ℤ and are known in the literature to be PAC are not PAC over ℤ.

In this paper we investigate finite rank operators in the Jacobson radical of Alg( ), where are nests. Based on the concrete characterizations of rank one operators in Alg( ) and , we obtain that each finite rank operator in can be written as a finite sum of rank one operators in and the weak closure of equals Alg( ) if and only if at least one of is continuous.

Existence and Weyl’s law for spherical cusp forms

Let G be a split adjoint semisimple group over and a maximal compact subgroup. We shall give a uniform, short and essentially elementary proof of the Weyl law for cusp forms on congruence quotients of . This proves a conjecture of Sarnak for -split groups, previously known only for the case G = PGL(n). The key idea amounts to a new type of simple trace formula. The First-Order Nonholonomic Connections with the Galilean Groups of Local Transformations. II

In the canonical smooth fiber bundles endowed with the metric tensor fields of relevant structure, we consider natural representations of the Galilean groups and construct -invariant generalizations of differentiable connections. In both regular and special cases of the representations of the relevant groups , we found all the affine nonholonomic -, -, and -connections of the first order (see [1]–[3]) possessing the local Lie groups of transformations and also described the respective -invariant planar connections.

For a ring R with , we build an injective assembly map , detected by the Dennis trace map. This is proved by establishing a delocalization property for the assembly map in Hochschild homology, namely providing a gluing of simpler assembly maps (i.e. localized at the identity of ) to build , and by delocalizing a known assembly map in K-theory to define . We also prove the delocalization property in cyclic homology and in related theories.     

Moduli Spaces of Stable Polygons and Symplectic Structures on\overline {\mathcal{M}} _{0,n}

In this paper, certain natural and elementary polygonal objects in Euclidean space, the stable polygons, are introduced, and the novel moduli spaces of stable polygons are constructed as complex analytic spaces. Quite unexpectedly, these new moduli spaces are shown to be projective and isomorphic to the moduli space of the Deligne–Mumford stable curves of genus 0. Further, built into the structures of stable polygons are some natural data giving rise to a family of (classes of) symplectic (Kähler) forms. This, via the link to , brings up a new tool to study the Kähler topology of . A wild but precise conjecture on the shape of the Kähler cone of is given in the end.     

On K3 of Witt Vectors of Length Two Over Finite Fields

We prove that for W₂ the Witt vectors of length two over the finite field , we have in characteristic at least 5 and for (3,f) = 1. The result is proved by using the identity and calculating the right term with a group homology spectral sequence. Some information on the spectral sequence is achieved by using the action of the outer automorphism of SL on the homology groups and recent results on K-groups of local rings and the ring of dual numbers over finite fields.     

Sharp Conditions for the CLT of Linear Processes in a Hilbert Space

In this paper we study the behavior of sums of a linear process associated to a strictly stationary sequence with values in a real separable Hilbert space and are linear operators from H to H. One of the results is that satisfies the CLT provided are i.i.d. centered having finite second moments and . We shall provide an example which shows that the condition on the operators is essentially sharp. Extensions of this result are given for sequences of weak dependent random variables under minimal conditions.
