The relationship between the temporal coherence (i.e., the coherence length) and the output power of a multi-longitudinal-mode Ar+ laser operated near the threshold current is studied. The experimental measurements show that the coherence length is a hyperbola as a function of the output power. A simple model of the multimode equal-amplitude power spectrum is employed in the theoretical analysis. Good agreement between theory and experiment is obtained. It is shown that for a multi-longitudinal-mode Ar+ laser, the product of coherence length and the output power is almost a constant. 4 gas laser with an intracavity absorbing cell is studied experimentally and theoretically at a modulation frequency approximately equal to the intermode beat frequency. It is revealed that in the vicinity of the absorption-line centre the intensity of every mode for certain system parameters displays resonance structures narrower than the homogeneous line width of the absorption line. This occurs when the range of mode synchronization is near the absorption-line centre and its size is less than the homogeneous width of the absorption line. A symmetric four-level closed-loop ? type (the diamond-shape) atomic system driven by four coherent optical fields is investigated. The system shows rich quantum interference and coherence features. When symmetry of the system is broken, interesting phenomena such as single and double-dark resonances appear. As a result, the controllable double electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) effect is generated, which will facilitate the implementation of quantum phase gate (QPG) operation.  相似文献

Volume holographic gratings and two-dimensional periodic microstructures in azodye-doped polymethylmethacrylate were fabricated, respectively, by interference of two coherent beams of a femtosecond laser and by interference of three coherent beams of a nanosecond laser. The dependence of the first-order Bragg diffraction efficiency and the photoinduced refractive-index modulation of the gratings on the intensity of the writing light was investigated. The measurements of the absorption spectra before and after irradiation with the writing light suggest that the photoinduced gratings were refractive-index-modulated gratings, which arose from a photoinduced decomposition reaction of the azodye molecules through multiphoton absorption. In the experiments involving the interference of three beams, the period of the two-dimensional periodic microstructures was changed by adjusting the angle between the three writing beams. Velocity vector measurement by using fiber-optic low coherence interferometers is proposed and demonstrated. The interference outputs between the reference and backscattered light from the probing points in the flow are correlation processed. The probing points can be specified and are set on the x-, y-, and z-axis in the flow by using the fiber-optic low coherence interferometers. The direction (angles from each axis) and absolute value of the flow velocity can be measured from peak positions of correlations.  相似文献

We theoretically investigated transient response of open and closed three-level ladder-type atomic system with or without the spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) which could be satisfied with the help of an incoherent pumping. The existence of the SGC effect makes the open and closed system to be distinguished. We compared transient response of weak probe between open and closed system and found that transient properties exhibit different features by adjusting some related parameters, such as the relative phase between probe and coupling fields, the angle between two dipole moments.  相似文献

We investigate the dependences of the diffraction efficiency of the first order self-diffracted beam in bacteriorhodopsin (bR) films on the illumination time, the intensity and wavelength of the incident light. When the blue light (λ = 488 nm) and low intensity red light (λ = 632.8 nm) are incident on the bR film respectively,the diffraction efficiencies increase from zero to a stable value with the illumination time. When the green light (λ = 533 nm) and high-intensity red light illuminate the bR film respectively, the diffraction efficiencies increase from zero to the maximum and then decrease to a stable value with the illumination time. Rise and decay times are dependent on the intensity and wavelength of the incident light. The maximal diffraction efficiency of the red light is twice as high as that of the green light. The highest diffraction efficiency of 5.4% is obtained at 633nm.The diffraction efficiency change with the time for the green light is larger than that for the blue and red light.  相似文献

To show the relations between dynamic diffraction behaviors of two coupled waves and parameters of bacteriorhodopsin (bR) film, we presented a model of numerical simulation, in which the thermal effect is considered. Using wavelength of 532 nm, the relations between dynamic diffraction behaviors and parameters of bR film are revealed and the numerical results are in good agreement with the experimental ones. For different incident intensities, the higher the intensity, the lower the stable normalized diffraction intensity. For different bR molecular concentrations in the M state, the higher the molecular concentration, the higher the stable value of normalized diffraction intensity. For different thickness of bR film, the larger the thickness, the higher the stable value of normalized diffraction intensity. For different lifetime in the M state, the longer the lifetime of the M state, the lower the stable value of normalized diffraction intensity. The normalized diffraction intensity with low stable value corresponds to its fast rising and decaying rate.  相似文献

With the Schrödinger equations, we investigate the low-intensity light pulse propagation through a semiconductor quantum wells. Through studying the dispersion and absorption properties of the weak probe field, it is shown that slow light propagation is observed in this system. From the view point of practical purpose, it is more advantageous than its corresponding atomic system. Such investigation of slow light propagation may lead to important practical applications in semiconductor quantum information.  相似文献

A new ternary photopolymer system is used in fabricating photonic crystals (PhCs) with controlled defects by combination of single-photon and two-photon photopolymerization. The former process can produce PhCs in one-step recording with a low-power (tens mW) continuous-wave laser at 532nm, while the latter can create desired defects. The preparation of the material, the optical setup and the preliminary experimental results are given. Compared with other methods, this approach is much more accessible and convenient for use of visible light and has advantages of making PhCs in a large scale quickly and economicaJly and introducing any defects exactly, especially for three-dimensional structures.  相似文献

We propose a scheme for giant enhancement of the Kerr nonlinearity in a four-level atomic system in which spontaneously generated coherence is present. The physics mechanism of the enhancement of Kerr nonlinearity is mainly based on the presence of an extra atomic coherence induced by the spontaneously generated coherence. Numerical values obtained by solving the density matrix equations agree well with these exact analytical values.  相似文献

In this Letter we discuss how the classical coherence matrix can be generalized to describe the quantum properties of broadband two-photon entangled states. Procedures for experimental evaluation of two-photon matrix elements have been outlined. We illustrate how this formalism can be used for characterization of multi-parameter optical entanglement and discuss its possible applications in quantum optical measurement and quantum coherent control.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to study the squeezing and statistical properties of the light produced by a degenerate three-level laser whose cavity contains a degenerate parametric amplifier. In this quantum optical system the top and bottom levels of the three-level atoms injected into the laser cavity are coupled by the pump mode emerging from the parametric amplifier. For a linear gain coefficient of 100 and for a cavity damping constant of 0.8, the maximum intracavity squeezing is found at steady state and at threshold to be 93%.  相似文献

The results are reported of the CO-laser optothermal (OT) detection of impurity gases when their absorption spectra overlap with those of an interfering gas. The influence of the latter was avoided using low gas pressures corresponding to a maximum of the OT sensitivity. Frequency tuned in the 5.2–6.3 m wavelength range, 12C16O and 13C16O waveguide lasers were used. The fine frequency tuning at 490 MHz was achieved for 150 laser transitions of both molecules. The OT sensitivity was estimated by NO2 detection in the presence of water vapor. The minimal detectable concentration proved to be 60 ppb at P 19–18(14) transition of a 12C16O laser for NO2 and 75 ppb on P 12–11(13) transition of a 13C16O laser for H2O.  相似文献

This paper introduces an innovative method to control and select transverse mode pattern in a He-Ne laser. The cat’s eye cavity is established by using a cat’s eye reflector as the reflecting mirror. Laser transverse mode pattern varies continuously when the distance between the convex lens and the concave mirror is changed, which form the cat’s eye reflector. By Newton-Cotes method, the numerical solution of two-dimensional diffraction integral equation in the cat’s eye cavity is obtained, the laser operating modes under various parameters are analyzed, and the eigenvalue ηmn and diffraction power loss corresponding with every transverse mode are calculated. The parameters assuring fundamental transverse mode output are figured out, which match the experiment results well. Therefore, a new convenient real-time means for the control and selection of the laser transverse mode is realized.  相似文献

The effect of spontaneously generated coherence on the probe response in an open ladder atomic system with equispaced levels is studied. The result shows that by adjusting the strength of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC), electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and high dispersion (index of refraction) with zero absorption can be realized, a much larger gain without inversion (GWI) than that without SGC can be obtained. Moreover, in the open system and for some strength of SGC, GWI without the incoherent pumping is much larger than that with the incoherent pumping; however, in the corresponding closed system, when the incoherent pumping is absent, we cannot obtain any gain (with or without inversion) for any strength of SGC. In addition, the manipulation role of the atomic exit and injection rates on SGC-dependent absorption property is analyzed for the case when the incoherence pumping does not exist.  相似文献

We consider a non-degenerate three-level cascade laser coupled to a two-mode squeezed vacuum reservoir via the lossy single-port mirror. Applying the pertinent master equation, we analyze the effects of the injected squeezed light on the quadrature squeezing, entanglement and normalized intensity difference fluctuations. We show that the injected squeezed light considerably enhances the degree of squeezing and entanglement in the two-mode light for certain initial conditions. Moreover, the injected squeezed light increases the mean photon number where the squeezing and entanglement is significant. We also show that the presence of the injected squeezed light greatly reduces the noise in the intensity difference.  相似文献

We propose a novel scheme to trap a particle based on a delicate interplay between coherence and decoherence. If the decoherence occurs as a particle is located in the scattering region and subsequently the appropriate destructive interference takes place, the particle can be trapped in the scattering area. We consider two possible experimental realizations of such trapping: a ring attached to a single lead and a ring attached to two leads. Our scheme has nothing to do with a quasi-bound state of the system, but has a close analogy with the weak localization phenomena in disordered conductors.  相似文献

The geometrical optics in Fresnel quantum holography for quantum entangled two-photon source and classical thermal light source based on the second-order correlation measurement has been discussed. We theoretically prove that the Fresnel quantum hologram of the detected object can be obtained through second-order correlation measurement and the optical reconstruction process can be accomplished by making use of a point light source.  相似文献
