The literature in the field of interior point methods for linear programming has been almost exclusively algorithm oriented. Recently Güler, Roos, Terlaky and Vial presented a complete duality theory for linear programming based on the interior point approach. In this paper we present a more simple approach which is based on an embedding of the primal problem and its dual into a skew symmetric self-dual problem. This embedding is essentially due Ye, Todd and Mizuno

First we consider a skew symmetric self-dual linear program. We show that the strong duality theorem trivally holds in this case. Then, using the logarithmic barrier problem and the central path, the existence of a strictly complementary optimal solution is proved. Using the embedding just described, we easily obtain the strong duality theorem and the existence of strictly complementary optimal solutions for general linear programming problems  相似文献

We present an infeasible interior-point algorithm for symmetric linear complementarity problem based on modified Nesterov–Todd directions by using Euclidean Jordan algebras. The algorithm decreases the duality gap and the feasibility residual at the same rate. In this algorithm, we construct strictly feasible iterates for a sequence of perturbations of the given problem. Each main iteration of the algorithm consists of a feasibility step and a number of centring steps. The starting point in the first iteration is strictly feasible for a perturbed problem. The feasibility steps lead to a strictly feasible iterate for the next perturbed problem. By using centring steps for the new perturbed problem, a strictly feasible iterate is obtained to be close to the central path of the new perturbed problem. Furthermore, giving a complexity analysis of the algorithm, we derive the currently best-known iteration bound for infeasible interior-point methods.  相似文献

We present a full Nesterov and Todd step primal-dual infeasible interior-point algorithm for symmetric optimization based on Darvay’s technique by using Euclidean Jordan algebras. The search directions are obtained by an equivalent algebraic transformation of the centering equation. The algorithm decreases the duality gap and the feasibility residuals at the same rate. During this algorithm we construct strictly feasible iterates for a sequence of perturbations of the given problem and its dual problem. Each main iteration of the algorithm consists of a feasibility step and some centering steps. The starting point in the first iteration of the algorithm depends on a positive number ξ and it is strictly feasible for a perturbed pair. The feasibility steps find strictly feasible iterates for the next perturbed pair. By using centering steps for the new perturbed pair, we obtain strictly feasible iterates close to the central path of the new perturbed pair. The algorithm finds an ?-optimal solution or detects infeasibility of the given problem. Moreover, we derive the currently best known iteration bound for infeasible interior-point methods.  相似文献

In this paper, we first present a full-Newton step feasible interior-point algorithm for solving horizontal linear complementarity problems. We prove that the full-Newton step to the central path is quadratically convergent. Then, we generalize an infeasible interior-point method for linear optimization to horizontal linear complementarity problems based on new search directions. This algorithm starts from strictly feasible iterates on the central path of a perturbed problem that is produced by a suitable perturbation in the horizontal linear complementarity problem. We use the so-called feasibility steps that find strictly feasible iterates for the next perturbed problem. By using centering steps for the new perturbed problem, we obtain a strictly feasible iterate close enough to the central path of the new perturbed problem. The complexity of the algorithm coincides with the best known iteration bound for infeasible interior-point methods.  相似文献

We propose a new full-Newton step infeasible interior-point algorithm for monotone linear complementarity problems based on a simple locally-kernel function. The algorithm uses the simple locally-kernel function to determine the search directions and define the neighborhood of central path. Two types of full-Newton steps are used, feasibility step and centering step. The algorithm starts from strictly feasible iterates of a perturbed problem, on its central path, and feasibility steps find strictly feasible iterates for the next perturbed problem. By using centering steps for the new perturbed problem, we obtain strictly feasible iterates close enough to the central path of the new perturbed problem. The procedure is repeated until an ?-approximate solution is found. We analyze the algorithm and obtain the complexity bound, which coincides with the best-known result for monotone linear complementarity problems.  相似文献

Recently, Luc defined a dual program for a multiple objective linear program. The dual problem is also a multiple objective linear problem and the weak duality and strong duality theorems for these primal and dual problems have been established. Here, we use these results to prove some relationships between multiple objective linear primal and dual problems. We extend the available results on single objective linear primal and dual problems to multiple objective linear primal and dual problems. Complementary slackness conditions for efficient solutions, and conditions for the existence of weakly efficient solution sets and existence of strictly primal and dual feasible points are established. We show that primal-dual (weakly) efficient solutions satisfying strictly complementary conditions exist. Furthermore, we consider Isermann’s and Kolumban’s dual problems and establish conditions for the existence of strictly primal and dual feasible points. We show the existence of primal-dual feasible points satisfying strictly complementary conditions for Isermann’s dual problem. Also, we give an alternative proof to establish necessary conditions for weakly efficient solutions of multiple objective programs, assuming the Kuhn–Tucker (KT) constraint qualification. We also provide a new condition to ensure the KT constraint qualification.  相似文献

Interior-point methods for semidefinite optimization have been studied intensively, due to their polynomial complexity and practical efficiency. Recently, the second author designed a primal-dual infeasible interior-point algorithm with the currently best iteration bound for linear optimization problems. Since the algorithm uses only full Newton steps, it has the advantage that no line-searches are needed. In this paper we extend the algorithm to semidefinite optimization. The algorithm constructs strictly feasible iterates for a sequence of perturbations of the given problem and its dual problem, close to their central paths. Two types of full-Newton steps are used, feasibility steps and (ordinary) centering steps, respectively. The algorithm starts from strictly feasible iterates of a perturbed pair, on its central path, and feasibility steps find strictly feasible iterates for the next perturbed pair. By using centering steps for the new perturbed pair, we obtain strictly feasible iterates close enough to the central path of the new perturbed pair. The starting point depends on a positive number ζ. The algorithm terminates either by finding an ε-solution or by detecting that the primal-dual problem pair has no optimal solution (X *,y *,S *) with vanishing duality gap such that the eigenvalues of X * and S * do not exceed ζ. The iteration bound coincides with the currently best iteration bound for semidefinite optimization problems.  相似文献

In this paper, a new full Nesterov–Todd step infeasible interior-point method for Cartesian \(P_*(\kappa )\) linear complementarity problem over symmetric cone is considered. Our algorithm starts from a strictly feasible point of a perturbed problem, after a full Nesterov–Todd step for the new perturbed problem the obtained strictly feasible iterate is close to the central path of it, where closeness is measured by some merit function. Furthermore, the complexity bound of the algorithm is the best available for infeasible interior-point methods.  相似文献

Many problems arising in practical applications lead to linear programming problems. Hence, they are fundamentally tractable. Recent interior-point methods can exploit problem structure to solve such problems very efficiently. Infeasible interior-point predictor–corrector methods using floating-point arithmetic sometimes compute an approximate solution with duality gap less than a given tolerance even when the problem may not have a solution. We present an efficient verification method for solving linear programming problems which computes a guaranteed enclosure of the optimal solution and which verifies the existence of the solution within the computed interval.  相似文献

An indefinite stochastic linear-quadratic (LQ) optimal control problem with cross term over an infinite time horizon is studied, allowing the weighting matrices to be indefinite. A systematic approach to the problem based on semidefinite programming (SDP) and related duality analysis is developed. Several implication relations among the SDP complementary duality, the existence of the solution to the generalized Riccati equation and the optimality of LQ problem are discussed. Based on these relations, a numerical procedure that provides a thorough treatment of the LQ problem via primal-dual SDP is given: it identifies a stabilizing optimal feedback control or determines the problem has no optimal solution. An example is provided to illustrate the results obtained.  相似文献

We present a predictor-corrector path-following interior-point algorithm for \(P_*(\kappa )\) horizontal linear complementarity problem based on new search directions. In each iteration, the algorithm performs two kinds of steps: a predictor (damped Newton) step and a corrector (full Newton) step. The full Newton-step is generated from an algebraic reformulation of the centering equation, which defines the central path and seeks directions in a small neighborhood of the central path. While the damped Newton step is used to move in the direction of optimal solution and reduce the duality gap. We derive the complexity for the algorithm, which coincides with the best known iteration bound for \(P_*(\kappa )\) -horizontal linear complementarity problems.  相似文献

Most existing interior-point methods for a linear complementarity problem (LCP) require the existence of a strictly feasible point to guarantee that the iterates are bounded. Based on a regularized central path, we present an infeasible interior-point algorithm for LCPs without requiring the strict feasibility condition. The iterates generated by the algorithm are bounded when the problem is a P * LCP and has a solution. Moreover, when the problem is a monotone LCP and has a solution, we prove that the convergence rate is globally linear and it achieves `-feasibility and `-complementarity in at most O(n 2 ln(1/`)) iterations with a properly chosen starting point.  相似文献

We present a new primal-dual path-following interior-point algorithm for linear complementarity problem over symmetric cones. The algorithm is based on a reformulation of the central path for finding the search directions. For a full Nesterov–Todd step feasible interior-point algorithm based on the search directions, the complexity bound of the algorithm with the small update approach is the best available.  相似文献

Abstract

We define a new interior-point method (IPM), which is suitable for solving symmetric optimization (SO) problems. The proposed algorithm is based on a new search direction. In order to obtain this direction, we apply the method of algebraically equivalent transformation on the centering equation of the central path. We prove that the associated barrier cannot be derived from a usual kernel function. Therefore, we introduce a new notion, namely the concept of the positive-asymptotic kernel function. We conclude that this algorithm solves the problem in polynomial time and has the same complexity as the best known IPMs for SO.  相似文献

In a recent work [J. Castro, J. Cuesta, Quadratic regularizations in an interior-point method for primal block-angular problems, Mathematical Programming, in press (doi:10.1007/s10107-010-0341-2)] the authors improved one of the most efficient interior-point approaches for some classes of block-angular problems. This was achieved by adding a quadratic regularization to the logarithmic barrier. This regularized barrier was shown to be self-concordant, thus fitting the general structural optimization interior-point framework. In practice, however, most codes implement primal-dual path-following algorithms. This short paper shows that the primal-dual regularized central path is well defined, i.e., it exists, it is unique, and it converges to a strictly complementary primal-dual solution.  相似文献

Primal-dual interior-point methods (IPMs) have shown their power in solving large classes of optimization problems. However, at present there is still a gap between the practical behavior of these algorithms and their theoretical worst-case complexity results, with respect to the strategies of updating the duality gap parameter in the algorithm. The so-called small-update IPMs enjoy the best known theoretical worst-case iteration bound, but work very poorly in practice. To the contrary, the so-called large-update IPMs have superior practical performance but with relatively weaker theoretical results. In this paper we discuss the new algorithmic variants and improved complexity results with respect to the new family of Self-Regular proximity based IPMs for Linear Optimization problems, and their generalizations to Conic and Semidefinite Optimization This research was supported by the MITACS project “New IPMs and Software for Convex Conic-Linear Optimization and Their Application to Solve VLSI Circuit Layout Problems”, by an NSERC discovery grant, and the CRC program. Abstract

In this paper we study the welldefinedness of the central path associated to a nonlinear convex semidefinite programming problem with smooth objective and constraint functions. Under standard assumptions, we prove that the existence of the central path is equivalent to the nonemptiness and boundedness of the optimal set. Other equivalent conditions are given, such as the existence of a strictly dual feasible point or the existence of a single central point. The monotonic behavior of the primal and dual logarithmic barriers and of the primal and dual objective functions along the trajectory is also discussed. The existence and optimality of cluster points is established and finally, under the additional assumption of analyticity of the data functions, the convergence of the primal-dual trajectory is proved.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new notion of augmenting function known as indicator augmenting function to establish a minmax type duality relation, existence of a path of solution converging to optimal value and a zero duality gap relation for a nonconvex primal problem and the corresponding Lagrangian dual problem. We also obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for an exact penalty representation in the framework of indicator augmented Lagrangian.  相似文献

After a brief introduction to Jordan algebras, we present a primal–dual interior-point algorithm for second-order conic optimization that uses full Nesterov–Todd steps; no line searches are required. The number of iterations of the algorithm coincides with the currently best iteration bound for second-order conic optimization. We also generalize an infeasible interior-point method for linear optimization to second-order conic optimization. As usual for infeasible interior-point methods, the starting point depends on a positive number. The algorithm either finds a solution in a finite number of iterations or determines that the primal–dual problem pair has no optimal solution with vanishing duality gap.  相似文献
