Novel approximate mathematical models of long-wave theory describing flows of a density-stratified liquid with a free boundary are proposed. It is shown that in certain cases the equations of the novel models coincide with either the equations of nonisentropic gas dynamics with a polytropic equation of state for γ = 2 or the equations describing the dynamics of a mixture of two perfect gases.  相似文献

A thin film flow of a viscous liquid flowing down a vertical wall in the field of the gravity force is studied. The values of temperatures on the solid wall and on the free surface are constant. The viscosity and thermal diffusivity are functions of temperature. A model of the deformation of a free weightless liquid film with rims fixed at a plane contour and subject to the action of thermocapillary forces is investigated. The film free-surface temperature is assumed to be a known function of the coordinates and time. The equation describing the film thickness evolution in the long-wave approximation is of the second order with respect to time and of the fourth order with respect to the longitudinal coordinates. A model plane nonstationary problem is calculated, making it possible to estimate the lifetime of the film as a function of the rate of variation of the temperature profile curvature on the free boundary. If the characteristic time of the temperature variation is large as compared with the film’s natural oscillation period, the problem can be considered in the quasi-steady approximation, which is studied in detail for the plane and axisymmetric cases. The critical values of the temperature profile curvature, for which the film thickness on the symmetry axis vanishes, resulting in the rupture of the film, are calculated.  相似文献

The finite element method is employed to investigate time-dependent liquid metal flows with free convection, free surfaces and Marangoni effects. The liquid circulates in a two-dimensional shallow trough with differentially heated vertical walls. The spatial formulation incorporates mixed Lagrangian approximations to the velocity, pressure, temperature and free surface position. The time integration is performed with the backward Euler and trapezoid rule methods with step size control. The Galerkin method is used to reduce the problem to a set of non-linear equations which are solved with the Newton–Raphson method. Calculations are performed for conditions relevant to the electron beam vaporization of refractory metals. The Prandtl number is 0·015 and Grashof number are in the transition range between laminar and turbulent flow. The results reveal the effects of flow intensity, surface tension gradients, mesh refinement and time integration strategy.  相似文献

The equilibrium shapes of a nonisothermal liquid film with a heat-insulated free surface for large Marangoni numbers are investigated in the long-wave approximation using a combination of analytical and numerical methods. It is proved that the two-dimensional problem of the equilibrium of a strip-shaped film has a steady-state solution for an arbitrary large temperature gradient on the boundaries of the strip. An increase in this gradient leads to an abrupt thinning of the film near the heated boundary, which can result in instability and rupture of the film. 将Michelson光学干涉测量系统与图像处理技术相结合,发展形成一种实时诊断热毛细对流和浮力对流流体表面形貌的实验测量系统. 采用光学干涉测量方法研究了两端带有温差的矩形池内薄层流体的对流、表面变形、以及表面波的基本问题. 应用Fourier变换方法对实验结果进行计算和分析,得到了流体表面变形和表面波的定量的实验结果. 实验结果表明了在浮力-热毛细对流的发展过程中,首先出现流体的表面变形,之后在该变形的基础上,叠加了一个表面波的信息,该表面变形和表面波与流体的温度梯度、表面张力、以及浮力有直接的关系;表面波隐藏在表面变形内.  相似文献

By the method of tracer particles the velocity field of thermocapillary convection in a thin layer of silicone oil, excited by a quasi-point heat source in the rigid substrate, is investigated as a function of the layer thickness, the temperature of the heater, and the liquid viscosity. The vertical velocity distributions are plotted in several cross-sections at different distances from the vortex axis. A novel method of measuring the profile of the thermocapillary depression, based on mirror reflection from the free liquid surface of radiation scattered by a tracer particle, is proposed. The central segment of the profile of the thermocapillary depression is obtained for different values of the layer thickness, the liquid viscosity and the heater temperature.  相似文献

Axisymmetric free-film flows are encountered in connection with the atomization of liquids and the collision of jets [1, 2]. In [3] steady motion with transverse symmetry is examined and its inviscid instability is studied. Here, steady flow with an arbitrary velocity profile is investigated numerically by the collocation method. The study of the stability of the steady flow under the assumption of local plane-parallelism leads to the formulation of a sixth-order eigenvalue problem which is solved numerically. The plane problem of reptation motion of a biological object in a viscous fluid is solved analytically in a long-wave approximation. The motion if laminar. Computational expressions and asymptotic estimates are obtained for the axial and shear forces, expended energy, and motion trajectory. Within the framework of the magnetohydrodynamic approach, a system of equations is derived for nonlinear evolution of long-wave axisymmetric perturbations on a conducting fluid jet with surface electric current, located along the axis of a conducting solid cylinder in a longitudinal magnetic field. The fluid is assumed to be inviscid, incompressible, and ideally conducting, like the cylinder walls. It is shown that, if the longitudinal field is uniform and the axial flow is shear-free, this system can be either hyperbolic or elliptic-hyperbolic, depending on problem parameters. The boundaries of hyperbolicity and ellipticity regions in the space of solutions are determined. In the hyperbolicity region, equations of characteristics and conditions on them are obtained. The problem of the decay of velocity discontinuity on the jet is considered. Conditions are found for the existence of a continuous self-similar solution in the hyperbolicity region, corresponding to collision of jets.  相似文献

This paper studies thermocapillary vortices induced by local heating of a bubble surface in a Hele-Shaw cell by a light beam. It is found that the vortex rotation frequency and its depth depend on the distance from the light-beam projection onto the layer to the bubble boundary. The surface velocity of the thermocapillary flow is calculated using the balance of the near-surface and return flows of the thermocapillary vortex and the equality of capillary and dynamic pressures. A steady flow of a thin film of a viscous incompressible liquid on a rotating cylinder (the cylinder axis is perpendicular to the direction of the force of gravity) is considered. Capillary effects are taken into account on the free surface. Thin-layer equations derived by Pukhnachov, which depend on the Galileo number and capillary number, are solved. If the first parameter equals zero, the force of gravity also equals zero. If the second parameter equals zero, the surface-tension coefficient also equals zero. The values of these parameters that ensure the solution existence and the number of solutions are determined by the method of collocations. One more solution corresponding to the drop-shaped free surface is found numerically. Variations of flow parameters caused by variations of the Galileo number and capillary number are considered. In this paper a semi-implicit method for three-dimensional circulation in isopycnal co-ordinates is derived and discussed. It is assumed that the flow is hydrostatic and characterized by isopycnal surfaces which can be represented by explicit, single-valued functions. The hydrostatic pressure is determined by using the conjugate gradient method to solve a block pentadiagonal linear system. The horizontal velocities are determined by solving a large set of tridiagonal systems. The stability of the resulting algorithm is shown to be independent of the surface and internal gravity wave speeds. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The classical shallow-water equations describing the propagation of long waves in flow without a shear of the horizontal velocity along the vertical coincide with the equations describing the isentropic motion of a polytropic gas for a polytropic exponent γ = 2 (in the theory of fluid wave motion, this fact is called the gas-dynamic analogy). A new mathematical model of long-wave theory is derived that describes shear free-boundary fluid flows. It is shown that in the case of one-dimensional motion, the equations of the new model coincide with the equations describing nonisentropic gas motion with a special choice of the equation of state, and in the multidimensional case, the new system of long-wave equations differs significantly from the gas motion model. In the general case, it is established that the system of equations derived is a hyperbolic system. Many studies involving the shapes and stability of liquid menisci formed during the extraction of a vertical rod from a liquid basin (rod‐in‐free‐surface problem) have been reported in the literature. However, the vast majority of these were conducted under the assumptions that the radius of the basin (R) is infinite and that, at its extremity, both the slope and curvature of the liquid surface are zero. Recently, a few studies involving finite basins have been reported; however, these were conducted under the assumption that the displaced volume of the liquid in the basin is prescribed. In this study, a parametric finite element method was employed to determine the behavior (shape and stability) of liquid menisci formed during the extraction of a vertical rod with circular cross‐section from a liquid contained in a circular basin with finite radius. The plots presented in this paper enable investigators to predict the critical extraction height (a priori) as a function of the radius ratio (R/r) and Bond number (β0gr2/γ) for the case where the contact angle (θ2) at the outer extremity of the basin is 90°. 上部开口环形液池在水平径向温度梯度作用下会出现内部温度和自由面的振荡,本文研究了二者发生的临界条件.环形液池内柱加热外壁制冷,以0.5℃/min的速率线性升温得到水平径向温差,T型热电偶测量液层内部单点温度,高精度激光位移传感器测量液层自由面某点形变.随两端温差增加,当超过某一临界温度ΔTct时,开始出现振荡.实验结果表明,对同一种硅油,两种振荡的临界条件随液层厚度具有相同的变化趋势.对不同普朗特(Prandtl)数(Pr)的硅油,振荡临界条件临界马兰哥尼数(Macr)随着邦德数(Bo)的增加而变大.本文工作是中国科学院科学先导专项SJ-10返回式科学实验卫星项目-热毛细对流表面波空间实验研究的地面研究结果,该工作为空间实验提供前期的基础科学研究数据和实验保障.  相似文献
