Summary Information criteria for two-sided uniform ϕ-equivalence, which is a newly introduced strong approximate equivalence of probability distributions, are proposed. The criteria resort to some modified K-L informations defined on suitable approximate main domains and are presented in the form of systems with double inequalities. They present systematic implements to handle many statistical approximation problems and are useful to evaluate related approximation errors quantitatively. Criteria for asymptotic cases are also derived from the presented inequalities. As applications, necessary and sufficient conditions and error evaluations are given for approximate and/or asymptotic equivalences of the probability distributions on sampling with and without replacement from a finite population and on quasi-extreme order statistics from a continuous distribution. Over the past few decades, the Processor-Sharing (PS) discipline has attracted a great deal of attention in the queueing literature. While the PS paradigm emerged in the sixties as an idealization of round-robin scheduling in time-shared computer systems, it has recently captured renewed interest as a useful concept for modeling the flow-level performance of bandwidth-sharing protocols in communication networks. In contrast to the simple geometric queue length distribution, the sojourn time lacks such a nice closed-form characterization, even for exponential service requirements. In case of heavy-tailed service requirements however, there exists a simple asymptotic equivalence between the sojourn time and the service requirement distribution, which is commonly referred to as a reduced service rate approximation. In the present survey paper, we give an overview of several methods that have been developed to obtain such an asymptotic equivalence under various distributional assumptions. We outline the differences and similarities between the various approaches, discuss some connections, and present necessary and sufficient conditions for an asymptotic equivalence to hold. We also consider the generalization of the reduced service rate approximation to several extensions of the M/G/1 PS queue. In addition, we identify a relationship between the reduced service rate approximation and a queue length distribution with a geometrically decaying tail, and extend it to so-called bandwidth-sharing networks. The state-of-the-art with regard to sojourn time asymptotics in PS queues with light-tailed service requirements is also briefly described. Parallelization of stochastic approximation procedures can reduce computation and total observation time of a system. Concerning the number of all observations used by the pure sequential and the suggested parallel method a weak invariance principle implies the asymptotic equivalence of both methods. A loglog invariance principle and a rate of a.s. convergence result describe the pathwise properties. The first result on the asymptotic equivalence of linear systems is a discrete analog of an improved version of the Levinson's well-known theorem on asymptotic equivalence of linear differential equations, while the second one providing conditions for asymptotic equivalence of linear and quasilinear systems is related to that of Yakubovich in differential equations case.  相似文献

We investigate the approximation properties of general polynomial preserving operators that approximate a function into some scaled subspace of L2via an appropriate sequence of inner products. In particular, we consider integer shift-invariant approximations such as those provided by splines and wavelets, as well as finite elements and multi-wavelets which use multiple generators. We estimate the approximation error as a function of the scale parameterTwhen the function to approximate is sufficiently regular. We then present a generalized sampling theorem, a result that is rich enough to provide tight bounds as well as asymptotic expansions of the approximation error as a function of the sampling stepT. Another more theoretical consequence is the proof of a conjecture by Strang and Fix, which states the equivalence between the order of a multi-wavelet space and the order of a particular subspace generated by a single function. Finally, we consider refinable generating functions and use the two-scale relation to obtain explicit formulae for the coefficients of the asymptotic development of the error. The leading constants are easily computable and can be the basis for the comparison of the approximation power of wavelet and multi-wavelet expansions of a given orderL.  相似文献

Boundary-value problems of the three-dimensional asymmetric micropolar, moment theory of elasticity with free rotation are considered for thin plates. It is assumed that the total stress-strain state is the sum of the internal stress-strain state and the boundary layers, which are determined in an approximation using asymptotic analysis. Three different asymptotic forms are constructed for the three-dimensional boundary-value problem posed, depending on the values of dimensionless physical constants of the plate material. The initial approximation for the first asymptotic form leads to a theory of micropolar plates with free rotation, the initial approximation for the second asymptotic form leads to a theory of micropolar plates with constrained rotation, and the initial approximation for the third asymptotic form leads to a theory of micropolar plates with “small shear stiffness.” The corresponding micropolar boundary layers are constructed and studied. The regions of applicability of each of the theories of micropolar plates constructed are indicated.  相似文献

For a singularly perturbed parabolic equation termed in applications as the reaction-diffusion-advection equation, stationary solutions with internal transition layers (contrast structures) are studied. An arbitrary-order asymptotic approximation of such solutions is constructed, and an existence theorem is proved. An efficient algorithm for constructing an asymptotic approximation of the transition point is proposed. The constructed asymptotic approximation is justified by applying the asymptotic method of differential inequalities, which is extended to the class of problems under study. This method is also used to establish the Lyapunov stability of such stationary solutions.  相似文献

For scalar diffusion models with unknown drift function asymptotic equivalence in the sense of Le Cam's deficiency between statistical experiments is considered under long-time asymptotics. A local asymptotic equivalence result is established with an accompanying sequence of simple Gaussian shift experiments. Corresponding globally asymptotically equivalent experiments are obtained as compound experiments. The results are extended in several directions including time discretisation. An explicit transformation of decision functions from the Gaussian to the diffusion experiment is constructed. The equivalence and asymptotic equivalence between the solutions of a linear difference system and some families of quasi-linear ones are studied by using a Lipschitz component-wise condition combined with a spectrally small dichotomy, which is introduced. The equivalence is described by a homeomorphism and the results also include unbounded solutions. The results show the vectorial attractivity of the solutions of the linear part.  相似文献

We present a method for the efficient approximation of integrals with highly oscillatory vector-valued kernels, such as integrals involving Airy functions or Bessel functions. We construct a vector-valued version of the asymptotic expansion, which allows us to determine the asymptotic order of a Levin-type method. Levin-type methods are constructed using collocation, and choosing a basis based on the asymptotic expansion results in an approximation with significantly higher asymptotic order. In this note, we provide basic asymptotic formulas for approximating large g-gonal sequence factorials by using Stirling and Burnside asymptotic approximation formulas for large factorials. In this paper we consider positive solutions of second order quasilinear ordinary differential equations with singular nonlinearities. We obtain asymptotic equivalence theorems for asymptotically superlinear solutions and decaying solutions. By using these theorems, exact asymptotic forms of such solutions are determined. Theorems on the sufficient conditions for the systems to be biasymptotically equivalent and for the existence of biasymptotically almost periodic solutions are obtained.
