Summary Education in Analytical Chemistry in Poland is mainly carried out at Universities and Technical Universities according to a unified curriculum. Summary A course on Analytical Chemistry for the life sciences currently conducted at the Chemistry Department of Chelsea College, London, is described. This course has three main components: Lectures on the analysis of materials of biological importance, practical experiments using both chemical and instrumental methods, and lectures from experts of other departments on specialized fields of application.

Analytische Chemie für die Biowissenschaften

Zusammenfassung Ein Ausbildungsplan für Analytische Chemie wird beschrieben wie er gegenwärtig in der chemischen Abteilung des Chelsea College, London, für Biowissenschaftler in Anwendung ist. Die Ausbildung umfaßt folgende drei Teile: Vorlesungen über die Analyse von biologisch relevanten Materialien, Praktika in chemischen und instrumentellen Analysenmethoden und Vorlesungen von einschlägigen Experten über spezielle Anwendungsgebiete.

Teaching of Analytical Chemistry in the University

Summary The status of analytical chemistry within the universities, particularly of the U.K. is discussed. It is argued that there are too few analytical chemists in University positions, particularly in view of the social and economic importance of analytical chemistry. Summary The various tasks and problems of Analytical Chemistry and the connections with all ranges of life are shown by means of a graphical representation according to H. Kelker. Training facilities in Analytical Chemistry are differing at the individual universities. Several universities offer the possibility of studying this field more thoroughly. The situation at the University of Tübingen is described as an example.

Analytische Chemie in der chemischen Ausbildung in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland

Zusammenfassung An Hand einer graphischen Darstellung von H. Kelker werden die vielfältigen Problemstellungen der Analytischen Chemie und die Zusammenhänge mit allen Lebensbereichen gezeigt. Die Ausbildung in Analytischer Chemie ist an den deutschen Hochschulen unterschiedlich geregelt. An einzelnen Hochschulen wird die Möglichkeit eines vertieften Studiums geboten. Dies wird am Beispiel der Universität Tübingen aufgezeigt.

Education and training of Analytical chemists in Yugoslavia

Summary There are twenty chemistry departments at Yugoslavian universities and polytechnics with as many chairs of Analytical Chemistry. The individual courses show considerable differences with regard to their extent and content. The share of Analytical Chemistry is not uniform and taken as a whole not adequate. A nationwide planning of Analytical Chemistry in universities: Possibilities and problems

Summary A nationwide planning of Analytical Chemistry in universities should meet two requirements: formulation of a common minimum programme for all universities and a well-balanced spread of research themes over the different universities. In the Netherlands this planning is the object of ISOAN, the Intersubfaculty Deliberation on Analytical Chemistry. Perhaps spectacular results have not yet been obtained, however thinking about these subjects has led to a more lucid picture and better mutual understanding.Presented at Euroanalysis III conference, Dublin, August 20–25, 1978     

New approach in teaching analytical chemistry at the Technical Universities of Czechoslovakia

Summary The 5 year study programme of the Technical Universities in Czechoslovakia comprises two courses in Analytical Chemistry. In the second year of study there are 3 h lectures of AC and 9 h of laboratory work per week. In the third year instrumental analysis is taught — 3 h lectures and 7 h practical work per week. For the last two years a subject rearrangement has been going on for the purpose of intensifying the studies.Presented at Euroanalysis III conference, Dublin, August 20–25, 1978     

Objectives in teaching analytical chemistry

Summary Demands on the analyst of today are systematically studied and the consequences for university education in analytical chemistry are discussed. The system adopted at the Technical University of Budapest is shown in detail. This comprises 5 years of university education in all the essential fundamental subjects and after subsequent successful work in a laboratory for at least 2 years, a further evening education in specialized topics for 2 years. The advantages of this system are set out.

Ausbildungsziele in der Analytischen Chemie

Zusammenfassung Die Anforderungen an den heutigen Analytiker werden systematisch untersucht und die Folgerungen für die Hochschulausbildung diskutiert. Das an der Technischen Universität Budapest eingeführte Ausbildungssystem wird näher beschrieben. Es umfaßt neben einem 5jährigen Hochschulunterricht in den wesentlichen grundlegenden Fächern eine weitere 2jährige Spezialausbildung im Abendstudium, die frühestens nach 2jähriger erfolgreicher Laborarbeit begonnen werden kann. Die Vorteile dieses Systems werden aufgezeigt.
