Employing high resolution photoemission spectroscopy, we studied the evolution of the spectral features in rare earth hexaboride single crystals as a function of temperature and 4f binding energy, where the variation of the 4f binding energy is obtained by changing the rare earth element. High energy resolution helped to reveal the distinct features corresponding to the various photoemission final states. Experimental results of CeB(6), a dense Kondo system, exhibit the growth of the features near the Fermi level with the decrease in temperature relative to the uncompensated local moment contributions. The valence band spectra of the antiferromagnetic compounds, PrB(6) and NdB(6), exhibit multiple features-the 4f ionization peaks (poorly screened features) appear at higher binding energies and the features in the vicinity of the Fermi level possessing significant 4f character are due to the well-screened photoemission final states. These results indicate finite hybridization between the 4f and B 2s2p conduction electronic states. Interestingly, the well-screened features in PrB(6) and NdB(6) exhibit unusual enhancement in intensity at low temperature.  相似文献

A new method of monitoring the superconductivity in the Hg-1201 films is proposed using the photoinduced optical second harmonic generation (PISHG). In the present work the experimental PISHG results are presented for the Hg-1201 films deposited on the MgO substrates. We have found that the PISHG is more sensitive compared with the traditional methods (resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, etc.). Using of the pump–probe technique allows obtaining additional parameters of the carrier relaxation responsible for the superconductivity. The proposed method has an advantage compared with the others because they are contactless and non-invasive and give a possibility to detect the phase transitions with higher precision.  相似文献

能谷自由度是近年来随着新型二维量子材料的研究而兴起的新焦点,而非线性光学则是现代光学学科中的重要分支。这两个看似没有任何交集的领域由于都对物质材料的中心反演对称破缺极度敏感而密切关联。文章将以过渡金属二硫属化物的单层和少层为代表,介绍能谷自由度与非线性光学中最基本的二次谐波过程之间的关系。由此得出,非线性光学可以成为研究能谷物理的重要技术和手段。同时,过渡金属二硫属化物等能谷材料也大大丰富了非线性光学的研究对象,预期二维材料和器件可以成为非线性光学研究的新机遇和新热点。  相似文献

Two very efficient methods for obtaining approximate solutions to nonlinear acoustics equations are discussed. I proposed these methods earlier, but they are still little known. The first method is based on expanding an unknown function into a Taylor series with respect to the coordinate (evolution variable) and on approximate summation of the terms of this series in all orders up to the infinite order. This series can be summed completely only in particular cases, e.g., for a simple wave. It has been noted that the partial summation technique is implemented more easily if all the terms of the series are represented as corresponding topological diagrams. The second method is based on introducing a “nonlinear” phase delay (proportional to the wave amplitude) for the temporal variable in linear solutions of the problem. The application technique of these methods is illustrated by obtaining approximate solutions of the Burgers equation.  相似文献

A filamenting femtosecond laser pulse self-stabilizes the intensity fluctuation inside the filament core due to intensity clamping and generates an excellent spatial beam quality inside the core due to self-spatial filtering. The high quality of the core can be sampled by nonlinear processes. A few models of nonlinear optical systems, known experimentally to possess both stable and unstable dynamical modes, are approximated by different dynamical models and integrated by different numerical methods. It is shown that the onset of instabilities and chaotic behavior in the same physical system may be dependent on the model used and on the numerical method applied. Finite order difference schemes should be applied with caution to infinite dimensional dynamical systems displaying irregular behavior.  相似文献

Measurement of the phase, and not only the intensity, of the nonlinear optical response of a system is important in many applications which are reviewed here. We demonstrate and compare several techniques for direct measurement of the phase of the nonlinear susceptibilities through nonlinear interferometry. Different ways of imparting a controllable phase shift are discussed. Unless the coherence length is impractically large, the preferred method is to use a variable-pressure gas cell to control the phase difference between the input laser pulse and the nonlinear optical signal.Prof. F. Oscillating solitons are obtained in nonlinear optics. Analytical study of the variable-coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger equation, which is used to describe the soliton propagation in those systems, is carried out using the Hirota’s bilinear method. The bilinear forms and analytic soliton solutions are derived, and the relevant properties and features of oscillating solitons are illustrated. Oscillating solitons are controlled by the reciprocal of the group velocity and Kerr nonlinearity. Results of this paper will be valuable to the study of dispersion-managed optical communication system and mode-locked fibre lasers.  相似文献

We consider nonlinear optical devices which are excited by coherent light from a laser and in which several other waves are generated by nonlinear processes. We develop a general theory to treat the noise properties of the generated waves. In particular a probability distribution function is found which in principle can be measured experimentally. We study the relations between solitons of nonlinear Schro¨dinger equation and eigen-states of linear Schro¨dinger equation with some quantum wells. Many different non-degenerated solitons are re-derived from the eigen-states in the quantum wells. We show that the vector solitons for the coupled system with attractive interactions correspond to the identical eigen-states with the ones of the coupled systems with repulsive interactions. Although their energy eigenvalues seem to be different, they can be reduced to identical ones in the same quantum wells. The non-degenerated solitons for multi-component systems can be used to construct much abundant degenerated solitons in more components coupled cases.Meanwhile, we demonstrate that soliton solutions in nonlinear systems can also be used to solve the eigen-problems of quantum wells. As an example, we present the eigenvalue and eigen-state in a complicated quantum well for which the Hamiltonian belongs to the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian having parity–time symmetry. We further present the ground state and the first exited state in an asymmetric quantum double-well from asymmetric solitons. Based on these results, we expect that many nonlinear physical systems can be used to observe the quantum states evolution of quantum wells, such as a water wave tank, nonlinear fiber, Bose–Einstein condensate, and even plasma, although some of them are classical physical systems. These relations provide another way to understand the stability of solitons in nonlinear Schro¨dinger equation described systems, in contrast to the balance between dispersion and nonlinearity.  相似文献

This is a review and analysis of the optical properties of quantum crystallites, with principal emphasis on the electro-optic Stark effect and all optical third order nonlinearity. There are also introductory discussions on physical size regimes, crystallite synthesis, quantum confinement theory, and linear optical properties. The experiments describe CdSe crystallites, exhibiting strong confinement of electrons and holes, and CuCl crystallites, exhibiting weak confinement of the exciton center of mass. In the CdSe system, neither the Stark effect nor the third order nonlinearity is well understood. The Stark shifts appear to be smaller than calculated, and field inducted broadening also occurs. The third order nonlinearity is only modestly stronger than in bulk material, despite theoretical prediction. Unexpectedly large homogeneous widths, due to surface carrier trapping, in the nominally discrete crystallite excited states appear to be involved. The CuCl system shows far narrower spectroscopic homogeneous widths, and corresponds more closely to an ideal quantum dot in the weak confinement limit. CuCl also exhibits exciton superradiance at low temperature. Surface chemistry and crystallite encapsulation are critical in achieving the predicted large Stark and third order optical effects in II-VI and III-V crystallites.  相似文献
