Carbon nanostructures with precisely controlled shapes are difficult materials to synthesize. A facet‐selective‐catalytic process was thus proposed to synthesize polymer‐linked carbon nanostructures with different shapes, covering straight carbon nanofiber, carbon nano Y‐junction, carbon nano‐hexapus, and carbon nano‐octopus. A thermal chemical vapor deposition process was applied to grow these multi‐branched carbon nanostructures at temperatures lower than 350 °C. Cu nanoparticles were utilized as the catalyst and acetylene as the reaction gas. The growth of those multi‐branched nanostructures was realized through the selective growth of polymer‐like sheets on certain indexed facets of Cu catalyst. The vapor–facet–solid (VFS) mechanism, a new growth mode, has been proposed to interpret such a growth in the steps of formation, diffusion, and coupling of carbon‐containing oligomers, as well as their final precipitation to form nanostructures on the selective Cu facets.  相似文献

Controlled synthesis of asymmetrical gold nanokites was realized by reducing HAuCl4 with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in PVA‐sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) aggregations aqueous solution at room temperature without any additional reducing agents. The crystal structures, optical property and growth process of the gold nanokites were investigated by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Vis‐NIR spectrum and transmission electron microscope (TEM). HAuCl4 concentration dramatically influenced the morphologies of the products. When HAuCl4 concentration was increased from 0.5 mmol·L−1 to 2.2 mmol·L−1, the products changed from network‐like nanostructures to nanokites, nanoleaves and microplates. SDS was indispensable for the formation of gold nanokites and without SDS super‐branched structures became the dominant products.  相似文献

Synthesis of branched gold nanocrystals by a seeding growth approach is described. In this process, HAuCl4 aqueous solution was supplied stepwise to grow the gold seeds (approximately 2.5 nm) into larger nanoparticles with a highly faceted particle structure (approximately 15-20 nm in diameter). Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) served as a capping agent to facilitate the formation of highly faceted nanoparticles, and ascorbic acid was used as a weak reducing agent. The highly faceted nanoparticles then transformed into branched nanocrystals (approximately 40 nm in length) by further addition of the SDS-HAuCl4 solution and ascorbic acid for particle growth. The branched nanocrystals show bipod, tripod, tetrapod, and pentapod structures and are composed of mainly (111) lattice planes. These multipods appear to grow along the twin boundaries of the initially formed highly faceted gold nanoparticles, as the twin boundaries on the pods originate from the centers of the branched nanocrystals. The concentration of ascorbate ions in the solution was found to have a profound influence on branch formation. These branched nanocrystals are stable to storage at low temperature (that is, 4 degrees C), but they may slowly evolve into a multitwinned faceted crystal structure (that is, pentagonal-shaped decahedral structure) when stored at 30 degrees C.  相似文献

Access to multifunctionality at the nanoscale requires the development of hybrid nanostructures that combine materials of different natures. In this line of thought, current research on coordination polymers is not only focusing on their synthesis at the nanoscale, but also on combining these polymers with other materials. According to a novel and rational approach, single‐layer Au@Prussian blue analogue (PBA) and double‐layer Au@PBA@PBA′ core–shell nanoparticles (NPs) may be obtained through the growth of a cyano‐bridged coordination network on the gold surface. The nanosized heterostructures combine the plasmonic optical properties of the gold core and the magnetic properties of the PBA shell. Whereas the single‐layer nanoparticles are paramagnetic, the double‐layer nanostructures display ferromagnetism; therefore, the overall structural motif may be considered as multifunctional. The developed synthetic concept also includes an easy access to hollow PBA NPs.  相似文献

Multi-branched gold nanoparticles were synthesized in high-yield through the reduction of HAuCl(4) by using hydrazine as a reducing agent. Practically 100% of the particles have numerous branches. The high reduction capability of hydrazine is found to be crucial for the formation of these branched gold nanoparticles. Their size can be controlled from 20 to 130 nm by varying the amounts of hydrazine. The prepared nanoparticles exhibit efficient surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) properties and the SERS activity of the particles depends on the aspect ratio of their branches, which are most likely related to a great increase in the localized electromagnetic field enhancement from their unique sharp surface features arising from the branches.  相似文献

Reproducible and controllable growth of nanostructures with well‐defined physical and chemical properties is a longstanding problem in nanoscience. A key step to address this issue is to understand their underlying growth mechanism, which is often entangled in the complexity of growth environments and obscured by rapid reaction speeds. Herein, we demonstrate that the evolution of size, surface morphology, and the optical properties of gold plasmonic nanostructures could be quantitatively intercepted by dynamic and stoichiometric control of the DNA‐mediated growth. By combining synchrotron‐based small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) with transmission electron microscopy (TEM), we reliably obtained quantitative structural parameters for these fine nanostructures that correlate well with their optical properties as identified by UV/Vis absorption and dark‐field scattering spectroscopy. Through this comprehensive study, we report a growth mechanism for gold plasmonic nanostructures, and the first semiquantitative revelation of the remarkable interplay between their morphology and unique plasmonic properties.  相似文献

Photothermal therapy based on gold nanostructures has been widely investigated as a state‐of‐the‐art noninvasive therapy approach. Because single nanoparticles cannot harvest sufficient energy, self‐assemblies of small plasmonic particles into large aggregates are required for enhanced photothermal performance. Self‐assembled gold nanorods in lipid bilayer‐modified microcapsules are shown to localize at tumor sites, generate vapor bubbles under near‐infrared light exposure, and subsequently damage tumor tissues. The polyelectrolyte multilayer enables dense packing of gold nanorods during the assembly process, which leads to the formation of vapor bubbles around the excited capsules. The resulting vapor bubbles achieve a high efficiency of suppressing tumor growth compared to single gold nanorods. In vivo experiments demonstrated the ability of soft‐polymer multilayer microcapsules to cross the biological barriers of the body and localize at target tissues.  相似文献

The formation of gold nanoparticles and the crystal growth at the surface of mixed phosphatidylcholine (PC)-ionic surfactant vesicles was investigated. The PC-bilayer surface was negatively charged by incorporating sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and positively charged by adding hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAB). The mass ratio phosphatidylcholine:surfactant was fixed in both cases at 1:1. The gold nanoparticle formation was studied by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) combined with dynamic light scattering (DLS) and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. TEM micrographs confirm that the particle formation occurs on the vesicle surface. However, the reduction process depends on the ionic surfactant incorporated into the vesicles, the vesicle size distribution, as well as the temperature used for the reduction process. Thereby, it becomes possible to control the crystal growth of the individual spherical gold nanoparticles in a characteristic way. Red colored colloidal dispersions consisting of monodisperse spherical nanoparticles with an average particle size between 2 and 8 nm (determined by dynamic light scattering) can be obtained by using a monodisperse SDS-modified vesicle phase. When the temperature is increased to 45 degrees C, a crystallization in rod-like or triangular structures is observed. In the CTAB-based template phase in general larger gold particles of about 35 nm are formed. In similarity to the anionic vesicles a temperature increase leads to the crystallization in triangular structures.  相似文献

Nanoparticles are the focus of much attention due to their astonishing properties and numerous possibilities for applications in nanotechnology. For realising versatile functions, assembly of nanoparticles in regular patterns on surfaces and at interfaces is required. Assembling nanoparticles generates new nanostructures, which have unforeseen collective, intrinsic physical properties. These properties can be exploited for multipurpose applications in nanoelectronics, spintronics, sensors, etc. This review surveys different techniques, currently employed and being developed, for assembling nanoparticles in to ordered nanostructures. In this endeavour, the principles and methods involved in the development of assemblies are discussed. Subsequently, different possibilities of nanoparticle‐based nanostructures, obtained in multi‐dimensions, are presented.  相似文献

Carboxylated peptide‐functionalized gold nanoparticles (peptide‐GNPs) self‐assemble into two‐ and three‐dimensional nanostructures in the presence of various heavy metal ions (i.e. Pb2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+) in aqueous solution. The assembly process is monitored by following the changes in the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band of gold nanoparticles in a UV/Vis spectrophotometer, which shows the development of a new SPR band in the higher‐wavelength region. The extent of assembly is dependent on the amount of metal ions present in the medium and also the time of assembly. TEM analysis clearly shows formation of two‐ and three‐dimensional nanostructures. The assembly process is completely reversible by addition of alkaline ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) solution. The driving force for the assembly of peptide‐GNPs is mainly metal ion/carboxylate coordination. The color and spectral changes due to this assembly can be used for detection of these heavy‐metal ions in solution.  相似文献

Divergent growth of surface-initiated dendritic nanostructures on gold surfaces in a highly controlled, stepwise manner is demonstrated, using metal-organic coordination as the binding motif. The repeat unit for dendrimer growth was a branched, C3-symmetrical ligand building block bearing three bis-hydroxamate groups. The surface initiation sites for dendrimer growth were obtained by the formation of a mixed monolayer comprising isolated bis-hydroxamate disulfide anchor ligands and octanethiol (OT) at very low anchor/OT ratios. Following functionalization of the surface with spaced anchors, alternate immersion in solutions of Zr4+ ions and the branched ligand afforded surface-confined dendrimers of increasing generation, where the number of generations is conveniently controlled by the number of coordination binding sequences. The heights of different generation dendrimers are in excellent agreement with values predicted by molecular models, as well as with thicknesses of branched multilayers prepared by the same procedure on full anchor monolayers. At higher generation numbers, gradual dendrimer overlap and coalescence are observed, eventually resulting in a continuous overlayer and a transition from 3D to 1D growth. A mechanism for the development of dendritic coordination nanostructures on surfaces is discussed.  相似文献

Recently, branched and star-shaped gold nanoparticles have received significant attention for their unique optical and electronic properties, but most examples of such nanoparticles have a zero-dimensional shape with varying numbers of branches coming from a quasi-spherical core. This report details the first examples of higher-order penta-branched gold particles including rod-, wire-, and platelike particles which contain a uniquely periodic starfruitlike morphology. These nanoparticles are synthesized in the presence of silver ions by a seed-mediated approach based on utilizing highly purified pentahedrally twinned gold nanorods and nanowires as seed particles. The extent of the growth can be varied, leading to shifts in the plasmon resonances of the particles. In addition, the application of the starfruit rods for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is demonstrated.  相似文献

The core-shell gold nanoparticles and copolymer of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBAA) hybrids (Au@copolymer) were fabricated through surface-initiated atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) on the surface of gold nanoparticles in 2-propanol/water mixed solvents. The surface of citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles was first modified by a disulfide initiator for ATRP. The slight cross-linking polymerization between NIPAM and MBAA occurred on the gold surface and resulted in the formation of core-shell Au@copolymer nanostructures that were characterized by TEM, and FTIR and UV-visible spectroscopy. Such synthesized Au@copolymer hybrids possess clearly thermosensitive properties and exhibit "inspire" and "expire" water behavior in response to temperature changes in aqueous solution. Because of this property, we enable to trap and encapsulate smaller nanoparticles by using the free space of the copolymer-network scaffold anchored at the gold surface.  相似文献

Novel polyaniline (PANI) with nanotube, nanosheet, and nanofiber shapes was facilely synthesized by a self‐templating one‐pot process. Anilinium‐dodecylsulfate (DS) complex, obtained by mixing equivalent amounts of aniline and sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS), played a template‐like role in forming PANI nanostructures. It was found that the morphology and electrical conductivity of the PANI nanostructures changed with the amount of SDS and the reaction temperature. Nanotube‐shaped PANI synthesized at the temperature of anilinium‐DS complex formation in presence of SDS (concentration <0.12 M) showed high conductivity (12.9 S/cm). At higher temperature, the morphology changed to shape of a rose flower and electrical conductivity decreased to 3.95 S/cm. This suggested that both temperature and SDS concentration were key parameters for controlling the formation of the anilinium‐DS complex that acted as a template. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Surface‐confined atom transfer radical polymerization was used to prepare gold nanoparticle–poly(methyl methacrylate) core–shell particles at elevated temperature. First, gold nanoparticles were prepared by the one‐pot borohydride reduction of tetrachloroaurate in the presence of 11‐mercapto‐1‐undecanol (MUD). MUD‐capped gold nanoparticles were then exchanged with 3‐mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPS) to prepare a self‐assembled monolayer (SAM) of MPS on the gold nanoparticle surfaces and subsequently hydrolyzed with hydrochloric acid. The extent of exchange of MUD with MPS was determined by NMR. The resulting crosslinked silica‐primer layer stabilized the SAM of MPS and was allowed to react with the initiator [(chloromethyl)phenylethyl] trimethoxysilane. Atom transfer radical polymerization was conducted on the Cl‐terminated gold nanoparticles with the CuCl/2,2′‐bipyridyl catalyst system at elevated temperature. The rates of polymerization with the initiator‐modified gold nanoparticles exhibited first‐order kinetics with respect to the monomer, and the number‐average molecular weight of the cleaved graft polymer increased linearly with the monomer conversion. The presence of the polymer on the gold nanoparticle surface was identified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyglycidyl methacrylate (PGMA) microspheres, crosslinked and surface‐functionalized by amine, can be used as a solid‐state template for the synthesis of gold (Au) crystals in the forms of either nanoparticles (NPs) or plates. It is discovered that the polymer microsphere acts as an internal template to cultivate Au NPs inside the microsphere or an external template to generate the single‐crystal plates depending on the critical concentration (Ccr) of gold ions. The ion–dipole interaction and the structure‐dependent solubility of gold induce two distinct gold nanostructures in the presence of the functionalized polymer microspheres. The catalytic activity and long‐term storage of the developed gold nanostructures that can be easily scaled‐up for mass production through the developed novel methodology is demonstrated.  相似文献

We report the synthesis and characterization of three different ordered mesoporous materials, labeled MCM‐48, SBA‐155, and SBA‐16 type materials, which were functionalized with gold nanoparticles using three different strategies. The functionalization strategies can be categorized as (i) in situ growth of gold nanoparticles, (ii) template loading, and (iii) diffusion loading of prefabricated gold nanoparticles. Two different particle sizes were employed in the latter two strategies, 5 nm and 10 nm. For all mesoporous structures, functionalization strategies, and particle sizes attempted, the materials retained their long‐range order upon incorporation of nanoparticles. From the adsorption isotherms, incorporation of gold nanoparticles altered the pore structure of the mesoporous support of some of the SBA‐15 and SBA‐16 type materials, with the effect on incorporation on the pore structure being particle size dependent in most cases. The majority of gold nanoparticles were found to reside on the external surface of the materials regardless of substrate and functionalization strategy; however, for the in situ synthesis and the template loading strategies, a significant fraction of the particles was determined to reside within the pore system of the material. In situ growth resulted in the highest content of gold nanoparticles in the solid phase. The relative effectiveness in retaining gold nanoparticles in the solid phase for each functionalization strategy was determined to be, in descending order, in situ synthesis, template loading, and diffusion loading.  相似文献

Small carbon nano‐onions (CNOs, 6–8 shells) were prepared in high yield and functionalized with carboxylic groups by chemical oxidation. After functionalization these nanostructures were soluble in aqueous solutions. 3‐(4,5‐dimethylthiazol‐2‐yl)‐5‐(3‐carboxymethoxyphenyl)‐2‐(4‐sulfophenyl)‐2 tetrazolium (MTS) tests showed excellent cytocompatibility of all CNOs analyzed at 30 and 300 μg mL?1, so these carbon nanostructures can be safely used for biological applications. The first covalent functionalization of oxidized CNOs (ox‐CNOs) with biomolecules, by using biotin–avidin interactions is reported here. Multilayers were prepared on a gold surface by layer‐by‐layer assembly and the process was monitored by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Covalent binding of molecules to the short amine‐terminated organosulfur monolayers was assessed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy using total attenuated reflactance mode (FT‐IR/HATR).  相似文献

The interaction between surfactants and hydrates provides insight into the role of surfactants in promoting hydrate formation. This work aims at understanding the adsorption behavior of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) on cyclopentane (CP) hydrates and its derivative surfactant on tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) hydrates. Cyclopentane (CP) is a hydrophobic former whereas tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) is a salt that forms semiclathrate hydrates. The adsorption on these two hydrates was studied by zeta potential and pyrene fluorescence measurements. CP hydrates have a negative surface charge in the absence of SDS, and it decreases to a minimum as the SDS concentration increases from 0 to 0.17 mM. Then, it increases with further increased SDS concentration. The adsorption density of DS (-) on CP hydrates reaches a saturated value at 1.73 mM SDS. The micropolarity parameter of the TBAB hydrate/water interface starts to increase rapidly at 0.17 mM SDS and levels off at 1.73 mM SDS. The presence of Br (-) in TBAB hydrate suspensions could compete with TBADS (from association of DS (-) and TBA (+)) and DS (-) for the adsorption on the hydrate surface, but they have a much stronger affinity for the hydrates than does Br (-). From the fluorescence measurements, it was found that the micropolarity of the hydrate/water interface is mainly dependent on the polarity of hydrate formers.  相似文献

Reproducible detection of a target molecule is demonstrated using temporally stable solution-phase silica-void-gold nanoparticles and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). These composite nanostructures are homogeneous (diameter = 45 +/- 4 nm) and entrap single 13 nm gold nanoparticle cores inside porous silica membranes which prevent electromagnetic coupling and aggregation between adjacent nanoparticles. The optical properties of the gold nanoparticle cores and structural changes of the composite nanostructures are characterized using extinction spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy, respectively, and both techniques are used to monitor the formation of the silica membrane. The resulting nanostructures exhibit temporally stable optical properties in the presence of salt and 2-naphthalenethiol. Similar SERS spectral features are observed when 2-naphthalenethiol is incubated with both bare and membrane-encapsulated gold nanoparticles. Disappearance of the S-H Raman vibrational band centered at 2566 cm(-1) with the composite nanoparticles indicates that the target molecule is binding directly to the metal surface. Furthermore, these nanostructures exhibit reproducible SERS signals for at least a 2 h period. This first demonstration of utilizing solution-phase silica-void-gold nanoparticles as reproducible SERS substrates will allow for future fundamental studies in understanding the mechanisms of SERS using solution-phase nanostructures as well as for applications that involve the direct and reproducible detection of biological and environmental molecules.  相似文献
