This paper characterizes the stationary (subgame) perfect equilibria of an n-person noncooperative bargaining model with characteristic functions, and provides strategic foundations of some cooperative solution concepts such as the core, the bargaining set and the kernel. The contribution of this paper is twofold. First, we show that a linear programming formulation successfully characterizes the stationary (subgame) perfect equilibria of our bargaining game. We suggest a linear programming formulation as an algorithm for the stationary (subgame) perfect equilibria of a class of n-person noncooperative games. Second, utilizing the linear programming formulation, we show that stationary (subgame) perfect equilibria of n-person noncooperative games provide strategic foundations for the bargaining set and the kernel.  相似文献

A new approach based on occupation measures is introduced for studying stochastic differential games. For two-person zero-sum games, the existence of values and optimal strategies for both players is established for various payoff criteria. We examine stochastic games with finite state and action spaces. For the -discounted case, as well as for the irreducible limiting average case, we show the existence of trembling-hand perfect equilibria and give characterizations of those equilibria. We study stochastic games with countable state space, compact action spaces, and limiting average payoff. ForN-person games, the existence of an equilibrium in stationary strategies is established under a certain Liapunov stability condition. In stochastic games with finite state and action spaces, we examine existence of equilibria where player 1 uses the limiting average reward and player 2 a discounted reward for the evaluations of the respective payoff sequences. By the nature of these rewards, the far future determines player 1's reward, while player 2 is rather interested in the near future. This gives rise to a natural cooperation between the players along the course of the play. First we show the existence of stationary ε-equilibria, for all ε>0, in these games. However, besides these stationary ε-equilibria, there also exist ε-equilibria, in terms of only slightly more complex ultimately stationary strategies, which are rather in the spirit of these games because, after a large stage when the discounted game is not interesting any longer, the players cooperate to guarantee the highest feasible reward to player 1. Moreover, we analyze an interesting example demonstrating that 0-equilibria do not necessarily exist in these games, not even in terms of history dependent strategies. Finally, we examine special classes of stochastic games with specific conditions on the transition and payoff structures. Several examples are given to clarify all these issues.  相似文献

For any positive integersk andn, the subclass ofk-convexn-person games is considered. In casek=n, we are dealing with convexn-person games. Three characterizations ofk-convexn-person games, formulated in terms of the core and certain adapted marginal worth vectors, are given. Further it is shown that fork-convexn-person games the intersection of the (pre)kernel with the core consists of a unique point (namely the nucleolus), but that the (pre)kernel may contain points outside the core. For certain 1-convex and 2-convexn-person games the part of the bargaining set outside the core is even disconnected with the core. The Shapley value of ank-convexn-person game can be expressed in terms of the extreme points of the core and a correction-vector whenever the game satisfies a certain symmetric condition. The mean field limit of large-population symmetric stochastic differential games is derived in a general setting, with and without common noise, on a finite time horizon. Minimal assumptions are imposed on equilibrium strategies, which may be asymmetric and based on full information. It is shown that approximate Nash equilibria in the n-player games admit certain weak limits as n tends to infinity, and every limit is a weak solution of the mean field game (MFG). Conversely, every weak MFG solution can be obtained as the limit of a sequence of approximate Nash equilibria in the n-player games. Thus, the MFG precisely characterizes the possible limiting equilibrium behavior of the n-player games. Even in the setting without common noise, the empirical state distributions may admit stochastic limits which cannot be described by the usual notion of MFG solution.  相似文献

We consider a class of quasilinear elliptic systems of PDEs consisting of N Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equations coupled with N divergence form equations, generalising to N > 1 populations the PDEs for stationary Mean-Field Games first proposed by Lasry and Lions. We provide a wide range of sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to these systems: either the Hamiltonians are required to behave at most linearly for large gradients, as it occurs when the controls of the agents are bounded, or they must grow faster than linearly and not oscillate too much in the space variables, in a suitable sense. We show the connection of these systems with the classical strongly coupled systems of Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equations of the theory of N-person stochastic differential games studied by Bensoussan and Frehse. We also prove the existence of Nash equilibria in feedback form for some N-person games.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider constrained noncooperative N-person stochastic games with discounted cost criteria. The state space is assumed to be countable and the action sets are compact metric spaces. We present three main results. The first concerns the sensitivity or approximation of constrained games. The second shows the existence of Nash equilibria for constrained games with a finite state space (and compact actions space), and, finally, in the third one we extend that existence result to a class of constrained games which can be “approximated” by constrained games with finitely many states and compact action spaces. Since the seminal paper of Nash (1950) game theoretic literature has focused mostly on equilibrium and not on maximin (minimax) strategies. We study the properties of these strategies in non-zero-sum strategic games that possess (completely) mixed Nash equilibria. We find that under certain conditions maximin strategies have several interesting properties, some of which extend beyond 2-person strategic games. In particular, for n-person games we specify necessary and sufficient conditions for maximin strategies to yield the same expected payoffs as Nash equilibrium strategies. We also show how maximin strategies may facilitate payoff comparison across Nash equilibria as well as refine some Nash equilibrium strategies.  相似文献

Using the existence results in Kajii (J Econ Theory 56:194–205, 1992), we identify a class of n-person noncooperative games containing a dense residual subset of games whose cooperative equilibria are all essential. Moreover, we show that every game in this collection possesses an essential component of the \(\alpha \)-core by proving the connectivity of minimal essential subsets of the \(\alpha \)-core.  相似文献

In this note we show that a solution proposed byRaiffa for two-person bargaining games, which has recently been axiomatized byKalai/Smorodinsky, does not generalize in a straightforward manner to generaln-person bargaining games. We prove the existence of ε-(Nash) equilibria in two-person non-zerosum limiting average repeated games with absorbing states. These are stochastic games in which all states but one are absorbing. This paper gives wide characterization of n-person non-coalitional games with finite players’ strategy spaces and payoff functions having some concavity or convexity properties. The characterization is done in terms of the existence of two-point-strategy Nash equilibria, that is equilibria consisting only of mixed strategies with supports being one or two-point sets of players’ pure strategy spaces. The structure of such simple equilibria is discussed in different cases. The results obtained in the paper can be seen as a discrete counterpart of Glicksberg’s theorem and other known results about the existence of pure (or “almost pure”) Nash equilibria in continuous concave (convex) games with compact convex spaces of players’ pure strategies.  相似文献

We examine n-player stochastic games. These are dynamic games where a play evolves in stages along a finite set of states; at each stage players independently have to choose actions in the present state and these choices determine a stage payoff to each player as well as a transition to a new state where actions have to be chosen at the next stage. For each player the infinite sequence of his stage payoffs is evaluated by taking the limiting average. Normally stochastic games are examined under the condition of full monitoring, i.e. at any stage each player observes the present state and the actions chosen by all players. This paper is a first attempt towards understanding under what circumstances equilibria could exist in n-player stochastic games without full monitoring. We demonstrate the non-existence of -equilibria in n-player stochastic games, with respect to the average reward, when at each stage each player is able to observe the present state, his own action, his own payoff, and the payoffs of the other players, but is unable to observe the actions of them. For this purpose, we present and examine a counterexample with 3 players. If we further drop the assumption that the players can observe the payoffs of the others, then counterexamples already exist in games with only 2 players.  相似文献

We are concerned with Nash equilibrium points forn-person games. It is proved that, given any real algebraic numberα, there exists a 3-person game with rational data which has a unique equilibrium point andα is the equilibrium payoff for some player. We also present a method which allows us to reduce an arbitraryn-person game to a 3-person one, so that a number of questions about generaln-person games can be reduced to consideration of the special 3-person case. Finally, a completely mixed game, where the equilibrium set is a manifold of dimension one, is constructed.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider discrete-time \(N\) -person constrained stochastic games with discounted cost criteria. The state space is denumerable and the action space is a Borel set, while the cost functions are admitted to be unbounded from below and above. Under suitable conditions weaker than those in (Alvarez-Mena and Hernández-Lerma, Math Methods Oper Res 63:261–285, 2006) for bounded cost functions, we also show the existence of a Nash equilibrium for the constrained games by introducing two approximations. The first one, which is as in (Alvarez-Mena and Hernández-Lerma, Math Methods Oper Res 63:261–285, 2006), is to construct a sequence of finite games to approximate a (constrained) auxiliary game with an initial distribution that is concentrated on a finite set. However, without hypotheses of bounded costs as in (Alvarez-Mena and Hernández-Lerma, Math Methods Oper Res 63:261–285, 2006), we also establish the existence of a Nash equilibrium for the auxiliary game with unbounded costs by developing more shaper error bounds of the approximation. The second one, which is new, is to construct a sequence of the auxiliary-type games above and prove that the limit of the sequence of Nash equilibria for the auxiliary-type games is a Nash equilibrium for the original constrained games. Our results are illustrated by a controlled queueing system.  相似文献
