The invention of the slot waveguide had enabled a number of interesting novel linear or nonlinear optical applications by guiding light in nanometers-wide low index slots guarded by high-index slabs. As one of its key characteristics, the low modal index for this kind of waveguides has been demonstrated by many studies. However, their higher order dispersion properties have not been thoroughly investigated yet, while the growing size and complexity of these devices and their potential nonlinear optical applications involving short optical pulses demand further understanding in their dispersion behavior. We here carry out a numerical study on the higher order dispersion characteristics of the SOI-based slot structures around the 1550 nm wavelength. Our results show that they could have significantly different second order dispersion properties in contrast to the traditional channel SOI waveguides. Their potentially large normal dispersion could have an impact on various nonlinear or linear applications. The relationship between the dispersion performance and the waveguide design is also investigated, and the results could show further venues to optimize or control the dispersion properties of such waveguides.  相似文献

从脉冲在光纤中传输所遵循的广义非线性薛定谔方程出发,通过数值模拟对色散渐减光纤产生超连续谱(SC)进行了研究.结果表明:色散渐减光纤的色散斜率k、色散参量D0、参量L0和R及脉冲的峰值功率、脉冲宽度对SC谱的产生有着极其重要影响|在色散渐减光纤产生超连续谱的过程中,三、四阶群速度色散甚至更高阶群速度色散对超连续谱的影响完全可以忽略,但高阶非线性效应对SC谱的产生影响很小|计算表明对光纤和脉冲的各参量进行优化选择后,可以获得宽而平坦的超连续谱.  相似文献

A simplified system of equations describing small-amplitude nonlinear quasi-transverse waves in an elastic weakly anisotropic medium with complicated dissipation and dispersion is considered. A simplified system of equations derived for describing the propagation and evolution of one-dimensional weakly nonlinear electromagnetic waves in a weakly anisotropic dielectric is found to be of the same type as the system of equations for quasi-transverse waves in an elastic medium. The steady-state structure of small-amplitude quasi-transverse discontinuities and a large number of admissible discontinuity types is studied using this system of equations. Viscous dissipation is traditionally assumed to be described in terms of the next differentiation order as compared to those constituting the hyperbolic system describing long waves, while the terms responsible for dispersion have an even higher differentiation order.  相似文献

In this review, considering the important linear and nonlinear optical effects like group velocity dispersion, higher order dispersion, Kerr nonlinearity, self-steepening, stimulated Raman scattering, birefringence, self-induced transparency and various inhomogeneous effects in fibers, the completely integrable concept and bright, dark and self-induced transparency soliton models in nonlinear fiber optics are discussed. Considering the above important optical effects, the different completely integrable soliton models in the form of nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS), NLS-Maxwell-Bloch (MB) type equations reported in the literature are discussed. In this article, the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with higher order dispersion and nonlinear terms have been discussed analytically using extended Fan sub-equation method. 通过数值求解非线性薛定谔方程,得到了二阶和三阶孤子的传输特性,并和一阶孤子做了比较.对于二阶孤子和三阶孤子间的相互作用做了分析,讨论了三阶色散对高阶孤子相互作用的影响,得出随着三阶色散的增大,会使孤子的衰变具有新的特性,将会导致光孤子通信的误码率加大.  相似文献

The Hirota equation is a higher order extension of the nonlinear Schr6dinger equation by incorporating third order dispersion and one form of self steepening effect, New periodic waves for the discrete Hirota equation are given in terms of elliptic functions. The continuum limit converges to the analogous result for the continuous Hirota equation, while the long wave limit of these discrete periodic patterns reproduces the known resulr of the integrable Ablowitz-Ladik system.  相似文献

We show that the second order nonlinear generation of light, a process that it is assumed to require highly ordered materials, is also possible in structures of randomly oriented nonlinear domains. We explain theoretically why in such disordered structures the efficiency of the nonlinear generation of light grows linearly with the number of domains. Moreover, a higher degree of disorder, obtained when the dispersion is made very large, has no negative effect for the nonlinear light generation. In such conditions, light generation is shown to be equally efficient for any average size of the domains and also to grow linearly with respect to the number of domains.  相似文献

A double clad solid silica fiber is newly designed for applications which need the high efficiency operation of two colors of light. Ultrashort pulses with a central wavelength of 800?nm are delivered by the core of the double clad fiber which can realize the transmission of the optical pulses with a net chromatic dispersion of zero. This is achieved by integrating the double clad fiber with a pair of long period gratings, which allows optical pulses to propagate in a higher order mode (LP02) in the middle of the fiber as well as in a fundamental mode (LP01) at the beginning and end of the fiber. The index profile of the double clad fiber is engineered so that the higher order mode has high anomalous dispersion that can be used to compensate for normal dispersion of the fundamental mode. By controlling the lengths of the fiber where pulses are in a fundamental and in a higher order modes, the fiber with total zero dispersion can be realized. The double clad fiber can collect 100?% of visible light within the numerical aperture of 0.21 with a loss of the optical pulses less than 1?%. The design of this fiber is essential for applications including fiber-optic nonlinear imaging for compactness, robustness, and low optical power loss in dispersion compensation.  相似文献

A novel phase‐matching scheme which is based on the dispersion compensation in the nonlinear optical composite materials containing metal nanoparticles is proposed. Anomalous dispersion originating from the plasmon resonance in metal nanoparticles compensates the dispersion of the host nonlinear material, leading to the perfect phase‐matching and high efficiency of nonlinear optical wavelength conversion. The effectiveness of this approach is theoretically demonstrated, taking third‐order nonlinear processes such as the direct third‐harmonic generation and four‐wave mixing in ZnO composites containing silica‐core–silver‐shell nanoparticles as examples. The results show that with the proposed phase‐matching scheme, unprecedentedly high conversion efficiency can be obtained compared with preceding results in third‐order nonlinear optical solid‐state materials.  相似文献

基于广义非线性薛定谔方程,通过数值计算对高非线性光纤正常色散区产生超连续谱进行了研究.结果表明,抽运脉冲的峰值功率、脉冲宽度以及脉冲初始啁啾对该光纤正常色散区超连续谱的形成有极其重要的影响;在高非线性光纤正常色散区产生超连续谱的过程中,三、四阶群速度色散甚至更高阶群速度色散对超连续谱的影响完全可以忽略,但与其他高非线性效应相比,自陡峭效应对超连续谱产生的影响更为明显.高功率超短光脉冲在高非线性光纤正常色散区,得到了没有泵浦成份残余、-20 dB谱宽达400 nm以上而频谱强度起伏小于10 dB的超宽而平坦超连续谱.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the continuous wave (cw) propagation through the nonlinear periodic structure that consists of alternating layers of both positive and negative Kerr coefficients along the propagation direction. We investigate the modulational instability (MI) conditions required for the generation of ultrashort pulses for the nonlinearity management system. We study the occurrence of MI at the top and bottom edges of the photonic band gap (PBG) where the forward and backward propagating waves are strongly coupled because of the presence of the grating structure. We also study the MI when cw is detuned from the edges of the PBG into the anomalous and normal dispersion regimes. In addition, we discuss the existence of gap solitons for the nonlinearity management system in the upper and lower branches of the dispersion curve through the MI gain spectra. We observe the generation of higher order solitons in the nonlinear periodic structure when the input power is increased beyond a certain critical level. Finally, we discuss the generation of higher order Bragg grating solitons through the intensity evolution of the forward and backward propagating fields.  相似文献

This paper mainly does research and analysis on anti-dispersive performance and anti-nonlinear performance for intensity modulation formats such as NRZ, RZ, CS-RZ, DRZ, MD-RZ in 40 Gbps high-speed single-channel optical transmission system. It compares the five pattern modulation formats in dispersion tolerance, nonlinear tolerance, and advantages and disadvantages in transmission distance. Anti-nonlinear effect ability of CSRZ and RZ are stronger than that of NRZ code; in the single-channel transmission system, DRZ and improved modulation format MDRZ have better resistance for anti-nonlinear performance, so they are suitable for long-distance transmission. RZ has the minimum dispersion tolerance. NRZ has higher spectrum efficiency than RZ, and thus have a better dispersion tolerance. CSRZ code has higher spectral efficiency, higher dispersion tolerance and nonlinear tolerance than RZ code, making it more suitable for long distance transmission.  相似文献

In this paper, four common dispersion profiles have been investigated for obtaining as high as possible wings free compressed pulse in nonlinear fiber loop mirror. Results show that linear profile can be considered as the best choice. Also, as the importance for enhanced adjustability of higher order soliton effect pulse compression, we propose a new simple method, as active fiber loop. According to our investigation it can be seen that when the amplification factor changes from 3 dB to 4 dB in an active linear profile dispersion decreased fiber loop mirror, the compression factor can be adjusted to any desired value between 140 and 170 where it is approximately two times higher than passive loop.  相似文献
