Let A be a(left and right) Noetherian ring that is semiperfect. Let e be an idempotent of A and consider the ring Γ :=(1-e)A(1-e) and the semi-simple right A-module Se := e A/e rad A. In this paper, we investigate the relationship between the global dimensions of A and Γ, by using the homological properties of Se. More precisely, we consider the Yoneda ring Y(e) := Ext_A~*(Se, Se) of e. We prove that if Y(e) is Artinian of finite global dimension, then A has finite global dimension if and only if so does Γ. We also investigate the situation where both A and Γ have finite global dimension. When A is Koszul and finite dimensional, this implies that Y(e) has finite global dimension. We end the paper with a reduction technique to compute the Cartan determinant of Artin algebras. We prove that if Y(e) has finite global dimension, then the Cartan determinants of A and Γ coincide. This provides a new way to approach the long-standing Cartan determinant conjecture.  相似文献

A generalized area function associated with a finite sum of finite products of Toeplitz operators is introduced. A distribution function inequality is established for the generalized area function. This paper details the evaluation and enhancement of the vertex-centred finite volume method for the purpose of modelling linear elastic structures undergoing bending. A matrix-free edge-based finite volume procedure is discussed and compared with the traditional isoparametric finite element method via application to a number of test-cases. It is demonstrated that the standard finite volume approach exhibits similar disadvantages to the linear Q4 finite element formulation when modelling bending. An enhanced finite volume approach is proposed to circumvent this and a rigorous error analysis conducted. It is demonstrated that the developed finite volume method is superior to both standard finite volume and Q4 finite element methods, and provides a practical alternative to the analysis of bending-dominated solid mechanics problems.  相似文献

A wavelet-based stochastic finite element method is presented for the bending analysis of thin plates. The wavelet scaling functions of spline wavelets are selected to construct the displacement interpolation functions of a rectangular thin plate element and the displacement shape functions are expressed by the spline wavelets. A new wavelet-based finite element formulation of thin plate bending is developed by using the virtual work principle. A wavelet-based stochastic finite element method that combines the proposed wavelet-based finite element method with Monte Carlo method is further formulated. With the aid of the wavelet-based stochastic finite element method, the present paper can deal with the problem of thin plate response variability resulting from the spatial variability of the material properties when it is subjected to static loads of uncertain nature. Numerical examples of thin plate bending have demonstrated that the proposed wavelet-based stochastic finite element method can achieve a high numerical accuracy and converges fast.  相似文献

A finite Hilbert transformation associated with a polynomial is the analogue of a Hilbert transformation associated with an entire function which is a generalization of the classical Hilbert transformation. The weighted Hilbert inequality, which has applications in analytic number theory, is closely related to the finite Hilbert transformation associated with a polynomial. In this note, we study a relation between the finite Hilbert transformation and the weighted Hilbert's inequality. A question is posed about the finite Hilbert transformation, of which an affirmative answer implies the weighted Hilbert inequality.

A bounded knapsack sharing problem is a maximin or minimax mathematical programming problem with one or more linear inequality constraints, an objective function composed of single variable continuous functions called tradeoff functions, and lower and upper bounds on the variables. A single constraint problem which can have negative or positive constraint coefficients and any type of continuous tradeoff functions (including multi-modal, multiple-valued and staircase functions) is considered first. Limiting conditions where the optimal value of a variable may be plus or minus infinity are explicitly considered. A preprocessor procedure to transform any single constraint problem to a finite form problem (an optimal feasible solution exists with finite variable values) is developed. Optimality conditions and three algorithms are then developed for the finite form problem. For piecewise linear tradeoff functions, the preprocessor and algorithms are polynomially bounded. The preprocessor is then modified to handle bounded knapsack sharing problems with multiple constraints. An optimality condition and algorithm is developed for the multiple constraint finite form problem. For multiple constraints, the time needed for the multiple constraint finite form algorithm is the time needed to solve a single constraint finite form problem multiplied by the number of constraints. Some multiple constraint problems cannot be transformed to multiple constraint finite form problems.  相似文献

A class of finite simplicial complexes, called pseudo cones, is developed that has a number of useful combinatorial properties. A partially ordered set is a pseudo cone if its order complex is a pseudo cone. Pseudo cones can be constructed from other pseudo cones in a number of ways. Pseudo cone ordered sets include finite dismantlable ordered sets and finite truncated noncomplemented lattices. The main result of the paper is a combinatorial proof of the fixed simplex property for finite pseudo cones in which a combinatorial structure is constructed that relates fixed simplices to one another. This gives combinatorial proofs of some well known non-constructive results in the fixed point theory of finite partially ordered sets.  相似文献

We examine asymptotic dimension and property A for groups acting on complexes. In particular, we prove that the fundamental group of a finite, developable complex of groups will have finite asymptotic dimension provided the geometric realization of the development has finite asymptotic dimension and the vertex groups are finitely generated and have finite asymptotic dimension. We also prove that property A is preserved by this construction provided the geometric realization of the development has finite asymptotic dimension and the vertex groups all have property A. These results naturally extend the corresponding results on preservation of these large-scale properties for fundamental groups of graphs of groups. We also use an example to show that the requirement that the development have finite asymptotic dimension cannot be relaxed.

A new decoupled finite element method is suggested to approximate time-dependent eddy current equations in a three-dimensional polyhedral domain. This method is based on solving a vector and a scalar from the splitting of the electric field by using edge and nodal finite elements.
