Metastable ion spectra and deuterium labelling have been used to investigate a series of gaseous [C8H9]+ ions of isomeric structures. The similarity of the intensities of their metastable loss of hydrogen, acetylene and ethylene molecules and metastable reactions of specifically labelled ions, suggests that the [C8H9]+ reacting ions, formed initially with different structures, isomerise to a common structure or mixture of structures via deep-seated rearrangement reactions which render all hydrogen atoms equivalent. The isomerisation process involved is controlled by a conversion of a vinyl bond into an allyl-type bond, thus destroying the aromatic moiety.  相似文献

In order to establish the mechanism of CO loss occurring during metastable decomposition of protonated 1-indanone, fragmentations of monocyclic [C9H9O]+ isomers have been studied. These ions of known structure were prepared by CI protonation and fragmentation of the corresponding acids chlorides. It is demonstrated that the wide component of the [MH? CO]+ metastable peak induced by protonated 1-indanone fragmentation is the result of fragmentation of the [C6H5CH2CH2CO]+ isomer ion.  相似文献

The charge exchange mass spectra of 14 C6H12 isomers have been determined using [CS2], [COS], [Xe], [CO], [N2] and [Ar] as the major reactant ions covering the recombination energy range from ∼10.2 eV to ∼15.8 eV. From the charge exchange data breakdown graphs have been constructed expressing the energy dependence of the fragmentation of the isomeric [C6H12] molecular ions. The electron impact mass spectra are discussed in relation to these breakdown graphs and approximate internal energy distribution functions derived from photoelectron spectra.  相似文献

The proton transfer equilibrium reactions involving 3-penten-2-one, 3-methyl-3-buten-2-one, crotonic acid and methacrylic acid were carried out in an ion cyclotron resonance (ICR) spectrometer. The semiempirical method MNDO, used to estimate the heats of formation for 14 protonated [C5H9O]+ and [C4H7O2]+ ions and the energetic aspect of the fragmentations of metastable [C6H12O]+. and [C6H12O2]+. ions, leads to the conclusion that the ions corresponding to protonation at the carbonyl oxygen are the most stable. Thus the experimentally determined heats of formation of protonated olefinic carbonyl compounds can be attributed to the following structures: [CH3COHCHCHCH3]+ (δHf = 490 KJ mol?1), [CH3COHC(CH3)CH2]+ (δHf = 502 KJ mol?1), [HOCOHCHCHCH3]+ (δHf = 330 KJ mol?1) and [HOCOHC(CH3)CH2]+ (δHf = 336 KJ mol?1).  相似文献

[C13H9S]+, [C14H11]+, [C13H11]+ and [C8H7S]+ ions with unknown structures were generated from two [C14H12S]precursor ions by fragmentation reactions that must be preceded by extensive rearrangements. Ions with the same compositions, each with several initial structures, were prepared by simple bond-breaking reactions. Metastable characteristics were compared for each of the four types of ions. It was found than in all cases fast isomerization reactions occur prior to fragmentation, so that no information about the unknown ion structures could be obtained by comparison of the observed fragmentations of metastable ions.  相似文献

The unimolecular decompositions of two isomers of [C3H8N]+, \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ {\rm CH}_{\rm 3} {\rm CH}_{\rm 2} {\rm CH} = \mathop {\rm N}\limits^ + {\rm H}_2 $\end{document} and \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ {\rm CH}_{\rm 3} {\rm CH}_{\rm 2} \mathop {\rm N}\limits^ + {\rm H = CH}_{\rm 2} $\end{document}, are discussed in terms of the potential energy profile over which reaction may be considered to occur. The energy needed to promote slow (metastable) dissociations of either ion is found to be less than that required to cause isomerization to the other structure. This finding is supported by the observation of different decomposition pathways, different metastable peak shapes for C2H4 loss, the results of 2H labelling studies, and energy measurements on the two ions. The corresponding potential energy profile for decomposition of the oxygen analogues, \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}${\rm CH}_{\rm 3} {\rm CH}_{\rm 2} {\rm CH =\!= }\mathop {\rm O}\limits^ + {\rm H} $\end{document} and \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ {\rm CH}_{\rm 3} {\rm CH}_{\rm 2} \mathop {\rm O}\limits^ + {\rm = CH}_{\rm 2} $\end{document}, is compared and contrasted with that proposed for the [C3H8N]+ isomers. This analysis indicates that for the oxygen analogues, the energy needed to decompose either ion is very similar to that required to cause isomerization to the other structure. Consequently, dissociation of either ion is finely balanced with rearrangement to the other and similar reactions are observed. Detailed mechanisms are proposed for loss of H2O and C2H4 from each ion and it is shown that these mechanisms are consistent with 2H and 13C labelling studies, the kinetic energy release associated with each decomposition channel, the relative competition between H2O and C2H4 loss and energy measurements.  相似文献

[C9H10N]+ cations (m/e 132) are generated by electron-impact from structurally distinct compounds within a mass spectrometer. They undergo three metastable fragmentation processes, preceded by isomerisation reactions of the precursor ions. The kinetics and energetics of the unimolecular reactions involved are discussed.  相似文献

Four isomeric thioethers, 2,3-dimethylthiirane ( 1 ), 2-methylthietane ( 2 ), tetrahydrothiophene ( 3 ), and allyl methyl thioether ( 4 ), have been subjected to mass spectrometric analysis in the gas phase, under electron impact (El) and chemical ionization (CI) conditions. The metastable molecular ions M+′ generated from 1-4 under EI (70 eV) conditions give distinct patterns of unimolecular fragmentation, thus indicating that isomer interconversion reactions are slower than dissociation (a possible exception, to some extent, is the case of [M2]+′ and [M2]+′). The change of the relative intensities of some prominent peaks with increasing ion lifetime (decomposition within the ion source, the first, and the second field-free regions of the mass spectrometer) is pointed out. Metastable [MH]+ ions, generated from 1-4 in chemical ionization experiments with CH4, all eliminate H2 and H2S, although in different relative proportions. In addition to these processes protonated 4 also undergoes loss of C2H4 and C3H6, likely from a C-protonated structure.  相似文献

Collisional activation spectra were used to characterize isomeric ion structures for [CH5P] and [C2H7P] radical cations and [C2H6P]+ even-electron ions. Apart from ionized methylphosphane, [CH3PH2], ions of structure [CH2PH3] appear to be stable in the gas phase. Among the isomeric [C2H7P] ions stable ion structures [CH2PH2CH3] and [CH2CH2PH3]/[CH3CHPH3] are proposed as being generated by appropriate dissociative ionization reactions of alkyl phosphanes. At least three isomeric [C2H6]+ ions appear to exist, of which \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ {\rm CH}_{\rm 3} - \mathop {\rm P}\limits^{\rm + } {\rm H = CH}_{\rm 2} $\end{document} could be identified positively.  相似文献

[C2H3O]+ ions with the initial structures [CH3CO]+, and [CH2CHO]+ cannot be distinguished on the basis of their collisional activation spectra, demonstrating that these isomers interconvert at energies below their threshold for decomposition. Self-protonation of ketene leads to the [CH3CO]+ ion, while the [C2H3O]+ ion generated from glycerol most probably has the structure of an oxygen protonated ketene [CH2?C?OH]+.  相似文献

Mass spectra from collisionally activated dissociation (CAD) of [C2H3O]+ ions, including isotopically labeled analogs, provide further information on the isomers [CH3C?O+] (a), [CH2?C?O+H] (b), [+CH2CH?O] (c) and (d). Our data generally support the recent conclusions from theory by Radom and coworkers and from experiment by Terlouw, Holmes and coworkers. Most acetyl-containing molecular ions form a ions in high purity only at low energies, consistent with isomerization of higher energy molecular ions to form the more stable enol which dissociates to b. Isomer d, prepared from (CICH2)2CHOH, undergoes facile hydrogen scrambling, presumably through a degenerate 1,2-hydrogen shift. Theory suggests that c undergoes spontaneous isomerization to a and d; although [C2H3O]+ ions from BrCH2CHO appear to consist of a and ~15% d, the latter are formed without substantial hydrogen scrambling.  相似文献

Ab initio molecular orbital calculations have been carried out for 17 possible isomeric [C3H7O]+ structures. Optimized geometries have been obtained with a split-valence basis set and improved relative energies determined with polarization basis sets and with incorporation of electron correlation. The results agree well with available experimental data. In particular, (CH3)2COH+, CH3CH2CHOH+, CH3CHOCH3+, CH3CH2OCH2+, and have been confirmed as low-energy isomers. Six additional structures appear to be energetically accessible and to offer a reasonable prospect for experimental observation. These are CH2CHCH2OH2+, CH2C(CH3)OH2+, CH3CHCHOH2+, CH2CHOHCH3+, and .  相似文献

The structure and fragmentation of eight [C6H13O] + ions formed by protonation of C6H12O carbonyl compounds in the gas phase have been investigated using isotopic labeling and metastable ion studies to investigate the fragmentation reactions and collisional dissociation studies to probe ion structures. Protonated 3-methyl-2-pentanone and protonated 2-methyl-3-pentanone readily-interconvert by pinacolic-retro-pinacolic rearrangements; the remaining six ions represent stable ion structures, although in many cases fragmentation is preceded by pinacolic-type rearrangements. Unimolecular (metastable ion) fragmentation of the [C6H13O] + species occurs by elimination of H2O, C3H6, C4H8 and C2H4O. The last three elimination reactions appear to occur through the intermediacy of a proton-bound complex of a carbonyl compound and an olefin, with the proton residing with the species of higher proton affinity on decomposition of the complex.  相似文献

The ionization and [C4H7]+ appearance energies for a series of C4H7CI and C4H7Br isomers have been measured by dissociative photoionization mass spectrometry. Cationic heats of formation, based on the stationary electron convention, are derived. No threshold ion is observed with a heat of formation corresponding to the trans-1-methylallyl cation, although there is evidence for formation of the less stable cis isomer. A 298 K heat of formation of 871 kJ mol?1 is obtained for the cyclopropylcarbinyl cation, with the cyclobutyl cation having a higher value of 886 kJ mol?1. At the HF/6-31G** level, ab initio molecular orbital calculations show the 2-butenyl, isobutenyl and homoallyl cations to be stable forms of [C4H7]+, being less stable than the trans-1-methylallyl cation by 101 kJ mol?1, 159 kJ mol?1 and 164 kJ mol?1, respectively. However, threshold formation is not observed for any of these ions, the fragmentation of appropriate precursor molecules producing [C4H7]+ ions with lower energy structures.  相似文献

Methods are described for the unequivocal identification of the acetyl, [CH3? \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document} ?O] (a), 1-hydroxyvinyl, [CH2?\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}? OH] (b), and oxiranyl, (d), cations. They involve the careful examination of metastable peak intensities and shapes and collision induced processes at very low, high and intermediate collision gas pressures. It will be shown that each [C2H3O]+ ion produces a unique metastable peak for the fragmentation [C2H3O]+ → [CH3]++CO, each appropriately relating to different [C2H3O]+ structures. [CH3? \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}?O] ions do not interconvert with any of the other [C2H3O]+ ions prior to loss of CO, but deuterium and 13C labelling experiments established that [CH2?\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}? OH] (b) rearranges via a 1,2-H shift into energy-rich leading to the loss of positional identity of the carbon atoms in ions (b). Fragmentation of b to [CH3]++CO has a high activation energy, c. 400 kJ mol?1. On the other hand, , generated at its threshold from a suitable precursor molecule, does not rearrange into [CH2?\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}? OH], but undergoes a slow isomerization into [CH3? \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}?O] via [CH2\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}HO]. Interpretation of results rests in part upon recent ab initio calculations. The methods described in this paper permit the identification of reactions that have hitherto lain unsuspected: for example, many of the ionized molecules of type CH3COR examined in this work produce [CH2?\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}? OH] ions in addition to [CH3? \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}?O] showing that some enolization takes place prior to fragmentation. Furthermore, ionized ethanol generates a, b and d ions. We have also applied the methods for identification of daughter ions in systems of current interest. The loss of OH˙ from [CH3COOD] generates only [CH2?\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}? OD]. Elimination of CH3˙ from the enol of acetone radical cation most probably generates only [CH3? \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}?O] ions, confirming the earlier proposal for non-ergodic behaviour of this system. We stress, however, that until all stable isomeric species (such as [CH3? \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm O}\limits^{\rm + } $\end{document}?C:]) have been experimentally identified, the hypothesis of incompletely randomized energy should be used with reserve.  相似文献

An energetic study of the production of [C7H8N]+ and [C6H7]+ fragment ions from o-toluidine and N-methylaniline is reported. The mechanisms for the formation of the ions are suggested. Metastable peaks associated with the formation and fragmentation of reactive [C7H8N]+ and [C6H7]+ ions were detected and kinetic energy released were determined. The results indicate that the [C7H8N]+ ion is formed at threshold from o-toluidine with an aminotropylium structure whereas for N-methylaniline the ion is formed with anN-phenylmethaniminium structure. [C6H7]+ ions are believed to be formed at threshold from the two precursors with a protonated benzene structure.  相似文献

Appearance energies for [C7H7]+ and [C6H5]+ fragment ions obtained from methylphenol isomers were measured at the threshold using the electron impact technique. Different processes for the formation of the ions are suggested and discussed. Metastable peaks were detected and the kinetic energies released were determined. The results indicate that [C7H7]+ ions are formed from metbylpbenois with both benzyl and tropylium structures, whereas [C6H5]+ ions are formed with the phenyl structure at the detected thresholds. Kinetic energies released on fragmentation of reactive [ C7H7]+ and [C6H5]+ ions were used as a probe for the structure of the ions at 70 eV.  相似文献
