We study the setP X of scalarsp such thatL p is lattice-isomorphically embedded into a given rearrangement invariant (r.i.) function spaceX[0, 1]. Given 0<αβ<∞, we construct a family of Orlicz function spacesX=L F [0, 1], with Boyd indicesα andβ, whose associated setsP X are the closed intervals [γ, β], for everyγ withαγβ. In particular forα>2, this proves the existence of separable 2-convex r.i. function spaces on [0,1] containing isomorphically scales ofL p -spaces for different values ofp. We also show that, in general, the associated setP X is not closed. Similar questions in the setting of Banach spaces with uncountable symmetric basis are also considered. Thus, we construct a family of Orlicz spaces ℓ F (I), with symmetric basis and indices fixed in advance, containing ℓ p (Γ-subspaces for differentp’s and uncountable Λ⊂I. In contrast with the behavior in the countable case (Lindenstrauss and Tzafriri [L-T1]), we show that the set of scalarsp for which ℓ p (Γ) is isomorphic to a subspace of a given Orlicz space ℓ F (I) is not in general closed.  Let X be one of the Banach spaces c 0 , ℓ p , 1≤p<∞; Ω⊂X pseudoconvex open, a holomorphic Banach vector bundle with a Banach Lie group G * for structure group. We show that a suitable Runge-type approximation hypothesis on X, G * (which we also prove for G * a solvable Lie group) implies the vanishing of the sheaf cohomology groups H q (Ω, 𝒪 E ), q≥1, with coefficients in the sheaf of germs of holomorphic sections of E. Further, letting 𝒪Γ (𝒞Γ) be the sheaf of germs of holomorphic (continuous) sections of a Banach Lie group bundle Γ→Ω with Banach Lie groups G, G * for fiber group and structure group, we show that a suitable Runge-type approximation hypothesis on X, G, G * (which we prove again for G, G * solvable Lie groups) implies the injectivity (and for X=ℓ1 also the surjectivity) of the Grauert–Oka map H 1 (Ω, 𝒪Γ)→H 1 (Ω, 𝒞Γ) of multiplicative cohomology sets. A Banach space X will be called extensible if every operator EX from a subspace EX can be extended to an operator XX. Denote by dens X. The smallest cardinal of a subset of X whose linear span is dense in X, the space X will be called automorphic when for every subspace EX every into isomorphism T: EX for which dens X/E = dens X/TE can be extended to an automorphism XX. Lindenstrauss and Rosenthal proved that c 0 is automorphic and conjectured that c 0 and ℓ2 are the only separable automorphic spaces. Moreover, they ask about the extensible or automorphic character of c 0(Γ), for Γ uncountable. That c 0(Γ) is extensible was proved by Johnson and Zippin, and we prove here that it is automorphic and that, moreover, every automorphic space is extensible while the converse fails. We then study the local structure of extensible spaces, showing in particular that an infinite dimensional extensible space cannot contain uniformly complemented copies of ℓ n p , 1 ≤ p < ∞, p ≠ 2. We derive that infinite dimensional spaces such as L p (μ), p ≠ 2, C(K) spaces not isomorphic to c 0 for K metric compact, subspaces of c 0 which are not isomorphic to c 0, the Gurarij space, Tsirelson spaces or the Argyros-Deliyanni HI space cannot be automorphic. For 1 ≤p ≤ ∞ we show that there are no denting points in the unit ball of ℓ(lp). This extends a result recently proved by Grząślewicz and Scherwentke whenp = 2 [GS1]. We also show that for any Banach spaceX and for any measure space (Ω, A, μ), the unit ball of ℓ(L 1 (μ), X) has denting points iffL 1(μ) is finite dimensional and the unit ball ofX has a denting point. We also exhibit other classes of Banach spacesX andY for which the unit ball of ℓ(X, Y) has no denting points. When X* has the extreme point intersection property, we show that all ‘nice’ operators in the unit ball of ℓ(X, Y) are strongly extreme points.  相似文献

A finitely presented group G is hyperbolic iff H (1) 1(G,ℝ)=0=(1) 2(G, ℝ), where H (1) * (resp. (1) *) denotes the ℓ1-homology (resp. reduced ℓ1-homology). If Γ is a graph, then every ℓ1 1-cycle in Γ with real coefficients can be approximated by 1-cycles of compact support. A 1-relator group G is hyperbolic iff H (1) 1(G,ℝ)=0. Suppose Γ is a group acting on a set X, written as (Γ,X). An r-labeling f: X→{1,2, ..., r} of X is called distinguishing for (Γ,X) if for all σ∈Γ,σ≠1, there exists an element xX such that f(x)≠f(x σ ). The distinguishing number d(Γ,X) of (Γ,X) is the minimum r for which there is a distinguishing r-labeling for (Γ,X). If Γ is the automorphism group of a graph G, then d(Γ,V (G)) is denoted by d(G), and is called the distinguishing number of the graph G. The distinguishing set of Γ-actions is defined to be D*(Γ)={d(Γ,X): Γ acts on X}, and the distinguishing set of Γ-graphs is defined to be D(Γ)={d(G): Aut(G)≅Γ}. This paper determines the distinguishing set of Γ-actions and the distinguishing set of Γ-graphs for almost simple groups Γ.  相似文献

Let X be an infinite-dimensional Banach space with weight τ. By Cld AW (X), we denote the hyperspace of nonempty closed sets in X with the Attouch—Wets topology. By Fin AW (X), Comp AW (X) and Bdd AW (X), we denote the subspaces of Cld AW (X) consisting of finite sets, compact sets and bounded closed sets, respectively. In this paper, it is proved that Fin AW (X)≈Comp AW (X)≈ℓ2(τ)×ℓ2 f ℓandℓBdd AW (X)≈ℓ2(2τ)×ℓ2 f where ≈ means ‘is homeomorphic to’, ℓ2(τ) is the Hilbert space with weight τ (ℓ2(ℵ0)=ℓ2 the separable Hilbert space) and ℓ2 f ={(x i ) iεN εℓ2x i =0 except for finitely many iεN}.  相似文献

Harold Widom proved in 1966 that the spectrum of a Toeplitz operator T(a) acting on the Hardy space Hp(\mathbbT)H^p({\mathbb{T}}) over the unit circle \mathbbT{\mathbb{T}} is a connected subset of the complex plane for every bounded measurable symbol a and 1 < p < ∞. In 1972, Ronald Douglas established the connectedness of the essential spectrum of T(a) on H2(\mathbbT)H^2({\mathbb{T}}). We show that, as was suspected, these results remain valid in the setting of Hardy spaces Hp(Γ,w), 1 < p < ∞, with general Muckenhoupt weights w over arbitrary Carleson curves Γ.  相似文献

An elementary proof of the (known) fact that each element of the Banach space w p (X) of weakly absolutelyp-summable sequences (if 1≤p<∞) in the Banach spaceX is the norm limit of its sections if and only if each element of w p (X) is a norm null sequence inX, is given. Little modification to this proof leads to a similar result for a family of Orlicz sequence spaces. Some applications to spaces of compact operators on Banach sequence spaces are considered.  相似文献

We give examples of non-amenable infinite conjugacy classes groups Γ with the Haagerup property, weakly amenable with constant Λcb(Γ) = 1, for which we show that the associated II1 factors L(Γ) are strongly solid, i.e. the normalizer of any diffuse amenable subalgebra P ì L(G){P \subset L(\Gamma)} generates an amenable von Neumann algebra. Nevertheless, for these examples of groups Γ, L(Γ) is not isomorphic to any interpolated free group factor L(F t ), for 1 < t ≤  ∞.  相似文献

Given 0<αpβ<∞, we construct Orlicz function spacesL F [0, 1] with Boyd indicesα andβ such thatL p is lattice isomorphic to a sublattice ofL F [0, 1]. Forp>2 this shows the existence of (non-trivial) separable r.i. spaces on [0, 1] containing an isomorphic copy ofL p . The discrete case of Orlicz spaces ℓ F (I) containing an isomorphic copy of ℓ p (Γ) for uncountable sets Γ ⊂I is also considered. Supported in part by DGICYT, grant PB91-0377.  相似文献

Let B w (ℓ p ) denote the space of infinite matrices A for which A(x) ∈ ℓ p for all x = {x k } k=1 ∈ ℓ p with |x k | ↘ 0. We characterize the upper triangular positive matrices from B w (ℓ p ), 1 < p < ∞, by using a special kind of Schur multipliers and the G. Bennett factorization technique. Also some related results are stated and discussed.  相似文献

For a locally compact group G, the measure convolution algebra M(G) carries a natural coproduct. In previous work, we showed that the canonical predual C 0(G) of M(G) is the unique predual which makes both the product and the coproduct on M(G) weak*-continuous. Given a discrete semigroup S, the convolution algebra 1(S) also carries a coproduct. In this paper we examine preduals for 1(S) making both the product and the coproduct weak*-continuous. Under certain conditions on S, we show that 1(S) has a unique such predual. Such S include the free semigroup on finitely many generators. In general, however, this need not be the case even for quite simple semigroups and we construct uncountably many such preduals on 1(S) when S is either ℤ+×ℤ or (ℕ,⋅).  相似文献

J. Lindenstrauss proves in [L] thatc 0(Γ) is not quasicomplemented inl (Γ) while H. P. Rosenthal in [R] proves that subspaces, whose dual balls are weak* sequentially compact and weak* separable, are quasicomplemented inl (Γ). In this note it is proved that weak* separability of the dual is the precise condition determining whether a subspace, without isomorphic copies ofl 1 and whose dual balls are weak* sequentially compact, is quasicomplemented or not inl (Γ). Especially spaces isomorphic tol p(Γ), for 1<p<∞, have no quasicomplements inl (Γ) if Γ is uncountable.  相似文献

We prove the boundedness of the maximal operator Mr in the spaces L^p(·)(Г,p) with variable exponent p(t) and power weight p on an arbitrary Carleson curve under the assumption that p(t) satisfies the log-condition on Г. We prove also weighted Sobolev type L^p(·)(Г, p) → L^q(·)(Г, p)-theorem for potential operators on Carleson curves.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group. The prime graph Γ(G) of G is defined as follows. The vertices of Γ(G) are the primes dividing the order of G and two distinct vertices p and p′ are joined by an edge if there is an element in G of order pp′. We denote by k(Γ(G)) the number of isomorphism classes of finite groups H satisfying Γ(G) = Γ(H). Given a natural number r, a finite group G is called r-recognizable by prime graph if k(Γ(G)) =  r. In Shen et al. (Sib. Math. J. 51(2):244–254, 2010), it is proved that if p is an odd prime, then B p (3) is recognizable by element orders. In this paper as the main result, we show that if G is a finite group such that Γ(G) = Γ(B p (3)), where p > 3 is an odd prime, then G @ Bp(3){G\cong B_p(3)} or C p (3). Also if Γ(G) = Γ(B 3(3)), then G @ B3(3), C3(3), D4(3){G\cong B_3(3), C_3(3), D_4(3)}, or G/O2(G) @ Aut(2B2(8)){G/O_2(G)\cong {\rm Aut}(^2B_2(8))}. As a corollary, the main result of the above paper is obtained.  相似文献

Let Γ be a regular curve and Lp(Γ),1<p<+∞, be the class of all complex-valued functions f defined on Γ which are such that |f|p is integrable in sense of Lebesgue. In this work, we define the kth p-Faber polynomial Fk.p(z), the kth p-Faber principle part ≈Fk.p(1/z) for Γ, and defined the nth p-Faber-Laurent rational function Rn,p(f, z) and p-generalized modulus of continuity Ωp of a function f of Lp(Γ). We investigate some properties of Fk.p(z) and ≈Fk.p(1/z). And then we prove a direct theorem characterizing the degree of approximation with respect to Ωp in the mean of functions of Lp(Γ) by the rational functions Rn.p(.,z).  相似文献

If P is a pleated plane in 3-dimensional hyperbolic space H 3 and α a geodesic in its intrinsic metric we define B(P,α), the average bending of P in the direction α. We show that if P is a convex pleated plane embedded in H 3 then B(P,α)≤K for some universal K. Furthermore if PΓ is a boundary component of the convex hull of a quasi-Fuchsian group Γ then B(PΓ,α)=B(Γ) almost everywhere, where B(Γ) is a constant times the length of the bending lamination βΓ of the pleated surface X Γ=PΓ/Γ. We use these to prove a number of results about quasi-Fuchsian groups including a universal bound on the Lipschitz constant for the map to infinity and a bound on the length of βΓ by a constant times the Euler characteristic of X Γ.
