The paper deals with the theoretical investigation of a fundamental problem of biomaguetic fluid flow through a porous medium subject to a magnetic field by using the principles of biomagnetic fluid dynamics (BFD). The study pertains to a situation where magnetization of the fluid varies with temperature. The fluid is considered to be non-Newtonian, whose flow is governed by the equation of a second-grade viscoelastic fluid. The walls of the channel are assumed to be stretchable, where the surface velocity is proportional to the longitudinal distance from the origin of coordinates. The problem is first reduced to solving a system of coupled nonlinear differential equations involving seven parameters. Considering blood as a biomagnetic fluid and using the present analysis, an attempt is made to compute some parameters of the blood flow by developing a suitable numerical method and by devising an appropriate finite difference scheme. The computational results are presented in graphical form, and thereby some theoretical predictions are made with respect to the hemodynamical flow of the blood in a hyperthermal state under the action of a magnetic field. The results clearly indicate that the presence of a magnetic dipole bears the potential so as to affect the characteristics of the blood flow in arteries to a significant extent during the therapeutic procedure of electromagnetic hyperthermia. The study will attract the attention of clinicians, to whom the results would be useful in the treatment of cancer patients by the method of electromagnetic hyperthermia.  相似文献

The laminar, incompressible, three‐dimensional, fully developed viscous flow of a non‐conducting biomagnetic fluid in a impermeable rectangular duct is numerically studied in the presence of an applied magnetic field. It is assumed that the magnetic field strength is sufficiently strong to saturate the biofluid and the magnetization is given as a function of the magnetic field intensity. The system of the partial differential equations, resulting after the introduction of appropriate non‐dimensional variables, is solved applying an efficient numerical technique based on a pressure‐linked pseudotransient method on a common grid. Results concerning the existence and the uniqueness of the solution, are also given. The obtained results, for different values for the parameters entering into the problem under consideration, show that the flow is appreciably influenced by the presence of the magnetic field. In this study, matrix representation of the Chebyshev collocation method for partial differential equation has been represented and applied to solve magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow equations in a rectangular duct in the presence of transverse external oblique magnetic field. Numerical solution of velocity and induced magnetic field is obtained for steady‐state, fully developed, incompressible flow for a conducting fluid inside the duct. The Chebyshev collocation method is used with a reasonable number of collocations points, which gives accurate numerical solutions of the MHD flow problem. The results for velocity and induced magnetic field are visualized in terms of graphics for values of Hartmann number H≤1000. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The steady rotation of a disk of infinite radius in a conducting incompressible fluid in the presence of an axial magnetic field leads to the formation on the disk of a three-dimensional axisymmetric boundary layer in which all quantities, in view of the symmetry, depend only on two coordinates. Since the characteristic dimension is missing in this problem, the problem is self-similar and, consequently, reduces to the solution of ordinary differential equations.Several studies have been made of the steady rotation of a disk in an isotropically conductive fluid. In [1] a study was made of the asymptotic behavior of the solution at a large distance from the disk. In [2] the problem is linearized under the assumption of small Alfven numbers, and the solution is constructed with the aid of the method of integral relations. In the case of small magnetic Reynolds numbers the problem has been solved by numerical methods [3,4]. In [5] the method of integral relations was used to study translational flow past a disk. The rotation of a weakly conductive fluid above a fixed base was studied in [6,7], The effect of conductivity anisotropy on a flow of a similar sort was studied approximately in [8], In the following we present a numerical solution of the boundary-layer problem on a disk with account for the Hall effect.  相似文献

In this paper we first summarize the magnetic and mechanical balance equations for magnetorheological fluids undergoing steady motion in the presence of a magnetic field. A general three-dimensional non-linear constitutive law for such a fluid is given for the case in which the magnetic induction vector is used as the independent magnetic variable. The equations are needed for the analysis of boundary-value problems involving fluids with dispersed micron-sized ferrous particles subjected to a time-independent magnetic field. For illustration, the equations are applied, in the case of an incompressible fluid, to the solution of some basic problems. We consider unidirectional flow in a region confined by two infinite parallel plates with a magnetic field applied perpendicular to the plates. Next, we examine two problems involving a circular cylindrical geometry with the fluid occupying the region between two concentric cylinders: axial flow subjected to an axial magnetic field and circumferential flow with a circumferential field. After making some simplifying assumptions on the constitutive law and choosing material parameters, numerical solutions for the velocity profiles are illustrated.  相似文献

The effects of a velocity slip and an external magnetic field on the flow of biomagnetic fluid (blood) through a stenosed bifurcated artery are investigated by using ANSYS FLUENT. Blood is regarded as a non-Newtonian power-law fluid, and the magnetization and electrical conductivity are considered in the mathematical model. The no-slip condition is replaced by the first-order slip condition. The slip boundary condition and magnetic force are compiled in the solver by the user-defined function (UDF). Numerical solutions are obtained by the finite volume method based on a nonuniform grid structure. The accuracy and efficiency of the solver are verified through a comparison with the literature. The results are presented graphically for different parameter values, and the effects of the magnetic number, the magnetic source position, the vascular obstruction ratio, the slip parameter, and the power-law index on the flow and temperature fields are illustrated.  相似文献

We study theoretically and computationally the incompressible, non-conducting, micropolar, biomagnetic (blood) flow and heat transfer through a two-dimensional square porous medium in an (x,y) coordinate system, bound by impermeable walls. The magnetic field acting on the fluid is generated by an electrical current flowing normal to the xy plane, at a distance l beneath the base side of the square. The flow regime is affected by the magnetization B 0 and a linear relation is used to define the relationship between magnetization and magnetic field intensity. The steady governing equations for x-direction translational (linear) momentum, y-direction translational (linear) momentum, angular momentum (micro-rotation) and energy (heat) conservation are presented. The energy equation incorporates a special term designating the thermal power per unit volume due to the magnetocaloric effect. The governing equations are non-dimensionalized into a dimensionless (ξ,η) coordinate system using a set of similarity transformations. The resulting two point boundary value problem is shown to be represented by five dependent non-dimensional variables, f ξ  (velocity), f η (velocity), g (micro-rotation), E (magnetic field intensity) and θ (temperature) with appropriate boundary conditions at the walls. The thermophysical parameters controlling the flow are the micropolar parameter (R), biomagnetic parameter (N H ), Darcy number (Da), Forchheimer (Fs), magnetic field strength parameter (Mn), Eckert number (Ec) and Prandtl number (Pr). Numerical solutions are obtained using the finite element method and also the finite difference method for Ec=2.476×10−6 and Prandtl number Pr=20, which represent realistic biomagnetic hemodynamic and heat transfer scenarios. Temperatures are shown to be considerably increased with Mn values but depressed by a rise in biomagnetic parameter (N H ) and also a rise in micropolarity (R). Translational velocity components are found to decrease substantially with micropolarity (R), a trend consistent with Newtonian blood flows. Micro-rotation values are shown to increase considerably with a rise in R values but are reduced with a rise in biomagnetic parameter (N H ). Both translational velocities are boosted with a rise in Darcy number as is micro-rotation. Forchheimer number is also shown to decrease translational velocities but increase micro-rotation. Excellent agreement is demonstrated between both numerical solutions. The mathematical model finds applications in blood flow control devices, hemodynamics in porous biomaterials and also biomagnetic flows in highly perfused skeletal tissue. Dedicated to Professor Y.C. Fung (1919-), Emeritus Professor of Biomechanics, Bioengineering Department, University of California at San Diego, USA for his seminal contributions to biomechanics and physiological fluid mechanics over four decades and his excellent encouragement to the authors, in particular OAB, with computational biofluid dynamics research.  相似文献

The example of two non-stationary forces is used to study the impact of external influences leading to the occurrence of additional ponderomotive forces on the wave regimes of the film freely flowing down a vertical surface. The first case describes a ferromagnetic fluid film affected by the magnetic field, and the second case touches upon a dielectric fluid film affected by the electric field. For the given forces, in the case of small flow rates, the problem is reduced to the solution of a model equation for the perturbation of the film thickness. The numerical solutions of the problem are obtained, and several characteristic scenarios of evolution of periodical perturbations are considered. It is shown that changes in the boundaries of the region of linear stability of the unperturbed flow with a flat free surface under the influence of ponderomotive forces have a great impact on the flow.  相似文献

An exact and a numerical solutions to the problem of a steady mixed convective MHD flow of an incompressible viscous electrically conducting fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate with combined heat and mass transfer are presented.A uniform magnetic field is assumed to be applied transversely to the direction of the flow with the consideration of the induced magnetic field with viscous and magnetic dissipations of energy. The porous plate is subjected to a constant suction velocity as well as a uniform mixed stream velocity. The governing equations are solved by the perturbation technique and a numerical method. The analytical expressions for the velocity field, the temperature field, the induced magnetic field, the skin-friction,and the rate of heat transfer at the plate are obtained. The numerical results are demonstrated graphically for various values of the parameters involved in the problem. The effects of the Hartmann number, the chemical reaction parameter, the magnetic Prandtl number, and the other parameters involved in the velocity field, the temperature field, the concentration field, and the induced magnetic field from the plate to the fluid are discussed. An increase in the heat source/sink or the Eckert number is found to strongly enhance the fluid velocity values. The induced magnetic field along the x-direction increases with the increase in the Hartmann number, the magnetic Prandtl number, the heat source/sink,and the viscous dissipation. It is found that the flow velocity, the fluid temperature, and the induced magnetic field decrease with the increase in the destructive chemical reaction.Applications of the study arise in the thermal plasma reactor modelling, the electromagnetic induction, the magnetohydrodynamic transport phenomena in chromatographic systems, and the magnetic field control of materials processing.  相似文献

We consider slow steady flows of a conducting fluid at large values of the Hartmann number and small values of the magnetic Reynolds number in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. The general solution is obtained in explicit form for the basic portion (core) of the flow, where the inertia and viscous forces may be neglected. The boundary conditions which this solution must satisfy at the outer edges of the boundary layers which develop at the walls are considered. Possible types of discontinuity surfaces and other singularities in the flow core are examined. An exact solution is obtained for the problem of conducting fluid flow in a tube of arbitrary section in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. The content of this paper is a generalization of some results on flows in a homogeneous magnetic field, obtained in [1–8], to the case of arbitrary flows in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. The author's interest in the problems considered in this study was attracted by a report presented by Professor Shercliff at the Institute of Mechanics, Moscow State University, in May 1967, on the studies of English scientists on conducting fluid flows in a strong uniform magnetic field.  相似文献

In this work we develop a mathematical model to predict the velocity profile for an unidirectional, incompressible and steady flow of an Oldroyd 6-constant fluid. The fluid is electrically conducting by a transverse magnetic field. The developed governing equation is non-linear. This equation is solved analytically to obtain the general solution. The governing non-linear equation is also solved numerically subject to appropriate boundary conditions (three cases of typical plane shearing flows) by an iterative technique with the finite-difference discretizations. A parametric study of the physical parameters involved in the problems such as the applied magnetic field and the material constants is conducted. The obtained results are illustrated graphically to show salient features of the solutions. Numerical results show that the applied magnetic field tends to reduce the flow velocity. Depending on the choice of the material parameters, the fluid exhibits shear-thickening or shear-thinning behaviours.  相似文献

The similarity solution for the problem of mixed convection boundary layer flow adjacent to a stretching vertical sheet in an incompressible electrically conducting fluid in the presence of a transverse magnetic field is presented. It is assumed that the sheet is stretched with a power-law velocity and is subjected to a variable surface heat flux. The governing partial differential equations are first transformed into a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations, before being solved numerically by the Keller-box method. The numerical results obtained are then compared with previously reported cases available in the literature as well as the series solution for certain values of parameters, to support their validity. The effects of the governing parameters on the flow field and heat transfer characteristics are obtained and discussed.  相似文献

This paper presents a study of hydromagnetic Couette flow of an incompress- ible and electrically conducting fluid between two parallel rotating plates, one of which is oscillating in its own plane. A uniform transverse magnetic field is used, and the induced magnetic field is taken into account. The exact solution to the governing equations is obtained in a closed form. The solution to the problem in the case of vanishing and small finite magnetic Prandtl numbers is also derived from the general solution. The asymp- totic behavior of the solution for large values of the frequency parameter is analyzed to gain some physical insights into the flow pattern. Expressions for the shear stress at both the oscillatory and stationary plates due to primary and secondary flows and mass flow rate in the primary and secondary flow directions are also obtained. The results of the fluid velocity and the induced magnetic field are presented. The shear stresses on the plates due to the primary and secondary flows and the corresponding mass flow rates are presented in a tabular form.  相似文献

The magnetically induced fluid flow in a square container is investigated by means of numerical simulations. Low frequency/ low induction conditions are assumed. The effect of the rotating magnetic field gives rise to a time-independent magnetic body force, computed via the electrical potential equation and Ohm's law and a time-dependent part that is neglected due to the low-interaction parameter. The magnetic body force calculation is verified successfully by comparison with the exact solution. The behavior of the fluid flow in the square container reveals similar features to the flow in the cylindrical container, for instance, in the dependence on the intensities of the magnetic field. However, we did find differences in the velocity field distribution. Particularly, in the finite as well as infinite geometry, the velocity field is influenced by the corner of the container and remains non-axisymmetric in a wide range of Taylor numbers.  相似文献

The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of an incompressible, viscous, electrically conducting fluid in a rectangular duct with an external magnetic field applied transverse to the flow has been investigated. The walls parallel to the applied magnetic field are conducting while the other two walls which are perpendicular to the field are insulators. The boundary element method (BEM) with constant elements has been used to cast the problem into the form of an integral equation over the boundary and to obtain a system of algebraic equations for the boundary unknown values only. The solution of this integral equation presents no problem as encountered in the solution of the singular integral equations for interior methods. Computations have been carried out for several values of the Hartmann number (1 ? M ? 10). It is found that as M increases, boundary layers are formed close to the insulated boundaries for both the velocity and the induced magnetic field and in the central part their behaviours are uniform. Selected graphs are given showing the behaviours of the velocity and the induced magnetic field.  相似文献

In certain technical applications when a magnetic field with rotational symmetry has to be calculated, it is often a principal requirement that a given line should be a magnetic line of force (or more accurately, that a given surface of rotation should coincide with a surface of magnetic force). An exact particular solution of the problem is found in the case when the given line of force is straight. This solution is subsequently generalized to the case of an arbitrary smooth line, approximating it by a broken line. A method is also proposed for producing and calculating a magnetic field satisfying the above conditions. The solution of this problem may be used in questions of magneto-hydrodynamics and plasmadynamics as the first approximation for the magnetic field in the case of small magnetic Reynolds numbers, when it is required that a certain line of fluid flow should coincide with a magnetic line of force. The authors would like to mention that it was due to the constant interest of E. S. Kuznetsov and his valuable advice that the present paper was completed.  相似文献

In the present study, we have proposed an immersed‐boundary finite‐volume method for the direct numerical simulation of flows with inertialess paramagnetic particles suspended in a nonmagnetic fluid under an external magnetic field without the need for any model such as the dipole–dipole interaction. In the proposed method, the magnetic field (or force) is described by the numerical solution of the Maxwell equation without current, where the smoothed representation technique is employed to tackle the discontinuity of magnetic permeability across the particle–fluid interface. The flow field, on the other hand, is described by the solution of the continuity and momentum equations, where the discrete‐forcing‐based immersed‐boundary method is employed to satisfy the no‐slip condition at the interface. To validate the method, we performed numerical simulations on the two‐dimensional motion of two and three paramagnetic particles in a nonmagnetic fluid subjected to an external uniform magnetic field and then compared the results with the existing finite‐element and semi‐analytical solutions. Comparison shows that the proposed method is robust in the direct simulation of such magnetic particulate flows. This method can be extended to more general flows without difficulty: three‐dimensional particulate flows, flows with a great number of particles, or flows under an arbitrary external magnetic field. Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of a viscous electrically conducting incompressible fluid between two stationary impermeable disks is considered. A homogeneous electric current density vector normal to the surface is specified on the upper disk, and the lower disk is nonconducting. The exact von Karman solution of the complete system of MHD equations is studied in which the axial velocity and the magnetic field depend only on the axial coordinate. The problem contains two dimensionless parameters: the electric current density on the upper plate Y and the Batchelor number (magnetic Prandtl number). It is assumed that there is no external source that produces an axial magnetic field. The problem is solved for a Batchelor number of 0–2. Fluid flow is caused by the electric current. It is shown that for small values of Y, the fluid velocity vector has only axial and radial components. The velocity of motion increases with increasing Y, and at a critical value of Y, there is a bifurcation of the new steady flow regime with fluid rotation, while the flow without rotation becomes unstable. A feature of the obtained new exact solution is the absence of an axial magnetic field necessary for the occurrence of an azimuthal component of the ponderomotive force, as is the case in the MHD dynamo. A new mechanism for the bifurcation of rotation in MHD flow is found.  相似文献

An exact solution of the magnetohydrodynamic equations is constructed which describes steady vortex flow in a stationary cylinder on the axis of which a conductor carrying a known current is located. The solution is obtained under the assumption that the fluid is viscous and has finite electrical conductivity and that the magnetic field has only the axial and azimuthal components in a cylindrical coordinate system. It is found that the action of the Lorentz force is compensated by changing the pressure. Fluid flow occurs from the periphery to the axis of the cylinder under a pressure gradient, with flow rotation and swirling. The fluid flow causes a concentration of the magnetic lines near the axis of the cylinder, providing an exponential decrease in the magnetic field strength with distance from the axis. This flow can be considered as a model of a local increase in the magnetic field strength due to the transfer of its force lines by the flow of the electrically conducting fluid.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of steady magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a viscous and electrically conducting fluid over a stretching sheet is studied. The effect of the induced magnetic field is taken into account. The transformed ordinary differential equations are solved numerically using the finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. Numerical results are obtained for various values of the magnetic parameter, the reciprocal magnetic Prandtl number and the Prandtl number. The effects of these parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are determined and discussed in detail. When the magnetic field is absent, the closed analytical results for the skin friction are compared with the exact numerical results. Also the numerical results for the heat flux from the stretching surface are compared with the results reported by other authors when the magnetic field is absent. It is found that very good agreement exists.  相似文献
