Local hydrodynamics in the riser of an external loop airlift reactor (EL-ALR) are identified and the performances of three drag models are evaluated in computational fluid dynamics simulation. The simulation results show that the Schiller–Naumann drag model underestimated the local gas holdup at lower superficial gas velocity whereas the Tomiyama drag model overestimated that at higher superficial gas velocity. By contrast, the dual-bubble-size (DBS)-local drag model gave more reasonable radial and axial distributions of gas holdup in all cases. The reason is that the DBS-local drag model gave correct values of the lumped parameter, i.e., the ratio of the drag coefficient to bubble diameter, for varying operating conditions and radial positions. This ratio is reasonably expected to decrease with increasing superficial gas velocity and be smaller in the center and larger near the wall. Only the DBS-local drag model correctly reproduced these trends. The radial profiles of the axial velocity of the liquid and gas predicted by the DBS-local model also agreed well with experimental data.  相似文献

The present work aims to investigate numerically the flowfield and heat transfer process in gas-solid suspension in a vertical pneumatic conveying pipe. The Eulerian-Lagrangian model is used to simulate the flow of the two-phases. The gas phase is simulated based on Reynolds Average Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) with low Reynolds number k-ε model, while particle tracking procedure is used for the solid phase. An anisotropic model is used to calculate the Reynolds stresses and the turbulent Prandtl number is calculated as a function of the turbulent viscosity. The model takes into account the lift and drag forces and the effect of particle rotation as well as the particles dispersion by turbulence effect. The effects of inter-particles collisions and turbulence modulation by the solid particles, i.e. four-way coupling, are also included in the model. Comparisons between different models for turbulence modulation with experimental data are carried out to select the best model. The model is validated against published experimental data for velocities of the two phases, turbulence intensity, solids concentration, pressure drop, heat transfer rates and Nusselt number distribution. The comparisons indicate that the present model is able to predict the complex interaction between the two phases in non-isothermal gas-solid flow in the tested range. The results indicate that the particle-particle collision, turbulence dispersion and lift force play a key role in the concentration distribution. In addition, the heat transfer rate increases as the mass loading ratio increases and Nusselt number increases as the pipe diameter increases.  相似文献

Because of their advantages of high efficiency and low cost, numerical research methods for large-scale circulating fluidized bed (CFB) apparatus are gaining ever more importance. This article presents a numer- ical study of gas-solid flow dynamics using the Eulerian granular multiphase model with a drag coefficient correction based on the energy-minimization multi-scale (EMMS) model. A three-dimensional, full-loop, time-dependent simulation of the hydrodynamics of a dense CFB apparatus is performed. The process parameters (e.g., operating and initial conditions) are provided in accordance with the real experiment to enhance the accuracy of the simulation. The axial profiles of the averaged solid volume fractions and the solids flux at the outlet of the cyclone are in reasonable agreement with experimental data, thereby verifying the applicability of the mathematical and physical models. As a result, the streamline in the riser and standpipe as well as the solids distribution contours at the cross sections is analyzed. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) serves as a basis for CFB modeling to help resolve certain issues long in dispute but difficult to address experimentally. The results of this study provide the basis of a general approach to describing dynamic simulations of gas-solid flows.  相似文献

Gas–solid flow in the riser of a dense fluidized bed using Geldart B particles (sand), at high gas velocity (7.6–15.5 m/s) and with comparatively high solid flux (140–333.8 kg/m2 s), was investigated experimentally and simulated by computational fluid dynamics (CFD), both two- and three-dimensional and using the Gidaspow, O’Brien-Syamlal, Koch-Hill-Ladd and EMMS drag models. The results predicted by EMMS drag model showed the best agreement with experimental results. Calculated axial solids hold-up profiles, in particular, are well consistent with experimental data. The flow structure in the riser was well represented by the CFD results, which also indicated the cause of cluster formation. Complex hydrodynamical behaviors of particle cluster were observed. The relative motion between gas and solid phases and axial heterogeneity in the three subzones of the riser were also investigated, and were found to be consistent with predicted flow structure. The model could well depict the difference between the two exit configurations used, viz., semi-bend smooth exit and T-shaped abrupt exit. The numerical results indicate that the proposed EMMS method gives better agreement with the experimental results as compared with the Gidaspow, O’Brien-Syamlal, Koch-Hill-Ladd models. As a result, the proposed drag force model can be used as an efficient approach for the dense gas–solid two-phase flow.  相似文献

This paper examines the suitability of various drag models for predicting the hydrodynamics of the turbulent fluidization of FCC particles on the Fluent V6.2 platform. The drag models included those of Syamlal–O’Brien, Gidaspow, modified Syamlal–O’Brien, and McKeen. Comparison between experimental data and simulated results showed that the Syamlal–O’Brien, Gidaspow, and modified Syamlal–O’Brien drag models highly overestimated gas–solid momentum exchange and could not predict the formation of dense phase in the fluidized bed, while the McKeen drag model could not capture the dilute characteristics due to underestimation of drag force. The standard Gidaspow drag model was then modified by adopting the effective particle cluster diameter to account for particle clusters, which was, however, proved inapplicable for FCC particle turbulent fluidization. A four-zone drag model (dense phase, sub-dense phase, sub-dilute phase and dilute phase) was finally proposed to calculate the gas–solid exchange coefficient in the turbulent fluidization of FCC particles, and was validated by satisfactory agreement between prediction and experiment.  相似文献

This paper illustrates the use of an adaptive finite element method as a means of achieving verification of codes and simulations of impinging round jets, that is obtaining numerical predictions with controlled accuracy. Validation of these grid‐independent solution is then performed by comparing predictions to measurements. We adopt the standard and accepted definitions of verification and validation (Technical Report AIAA‐G‐077‐1998, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 1998; Verification and Validation in Computational Science and Engineering. Hermosa Publishers: Albuquerque, NM, 1998). Mesh adaptation is used to perform the systematic and rigorous grid refinement studies required for both verification and validation in CFD. This ensures that discrepancies observed between predictions and measurements are due to deficiencies in the mathematical model of the flow. Issues in verification and validation are discussed. The paper presents an example of code verification by the method of manufactured solution. Examples of successful and unsuccessful validation for laminar and turbulent impinging jets show that agreement with experiments is achieved only with a good mathematical model of the flow physics combined with accurate numerical solution of the differential equations. The paper emphasizes good CFD practice to systematically achieve verification so that validation studies are always performed on solid grounds. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper contains a three-dimensional study on the influence of different turbulence models for external supersonic flow field simulations, aiming at reaching the best accuracy in rocket aerodynamics. A well-studied test case -a slender body- has been used for the validation process, which involves the major turbulence models available. The SST k–ω model has been selected as the most suitable one for this kind of flows. Good agreements between numerical, theoretical and experimental results are obtained, which are used to set up some guidelines regarding the configuration of Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) supersonic models for these flight regimes.

Drag reduction (DR) for air and water flowing in an inclined 0.0127 m diameter pipe was investigated experimentally. The fluids had an annular configuration and the pipe is inclined upward. The injection of drag reducing polymer (DRP) solution produced drag reductions as high as 71% with concentration of 100 ppm in the pipeline. A maximum drag reduction that is accompanied (in most cases) by a change to a stratified or annular-stratified pattern. The drag reduction is sensitive to the gas and liquid superficial velocities and the pipe inclination. Maximum drag reduction was achieved in the case of pipe inclination of 1.28° at the lowest superficial gas velocity and the highest superficial liquid velocity. For the first time in literature, the drag reduction variations with the square root of the superficial velocities ration for flows with the same final flow patterns have self-similar behaviors.  相似文献

Using Brownian dynamics (BD) simulations of FENE bead-spring models, the dynamics of star-branched polymers in dilute solutions under extensional flow have been investigated. Studies on star polymers in transient extensional flow reveal that the initial transient stress response at low strains is governed by both the number of arms and the shortest arm. On the other hand, the steady-state behavior of star polymers in elongational flow is limited by the maximum effective “contour” length of the molecules. The distribution of arm extension and birefringence of the star-branched molecule are broader and the mean is shifted to lower values, when compared to equivalent linear systems. As a result, the degree of arm extension at steady-state decreases as the number of arms in the star increases. Both an analysis of individual ensembles in Brownian dynamics simulations and a study of a simple force balance indicate that the constraint imposed on the star arms by the central branch point and contributions from “asymmetric” arm arrangements give rise to overall less extended and oriented star-branched molecules with broader arm extension and birefringence distributions. The results obtained from stress-conformation hysteresis simulation indicate that less-stretched arms exhibit more retarded relaxation, as the number of arms increases in star-branched molecules. The effect of excluded volume (EV) interactions, incorporated through the Lennard–Jones potential, on the dynamics of star polymers in extensional flow appears unimportant.  相似文献

In order to improve the understanding of counter-current two-phase flows and to validate new physical models, CFD simulations of 1/3rd scale model of the hot leg of a German Konvoi PWR with rectangular cross section was performed. Selected counter-current flow limitation (CCFL) experiments at the Helmholtz–Zentrum Dresden–Rossendorf (HZDR) were calculated with ANSYS CFX 12.1 using the multi-fluid Euler–Euler modeling approach. The transient calculations were carried out using a gas/liquid inhomogeneous multiphase flow model coupled with a k-ω turbulence model for each phase. In the simulation, the surface drag was approached by a new correlation inside the Algebraic Interfacial Area Density (AIAD) model. The AIAD model allows the detection of the morphological form of the two phase flow and the corresponding switching via a blending function of each correlation from one object pair to another. As a result this model can distinguish between bubbles, droplets and the free surface using the local liquid phase volume fraction value. A comparison with the high-speed video observations shows a good qualitative agreement. The results indicated that quantitative agreement of the CCFL characteristics between calculation and experimental data was obtained. The goal is to provide an easy usable AIAD framework for all Code users, with the possibility of the implementation of their own correlations.  相似文献

We present an efficient implementation of the proper (in vivo) outlet boundary conditions in detailed, three‐dimensional (3D) and time‐periodic simulations of blood flow through arteries. This is achieved through the intermediate use of an approximate ‘simulant’ model of the outlet pressure/flow relationship corresponding to the full 3D and time‐dependent numerical simulation. This model allows us to efficiently couple the 3D outlet pressure/flow conditions to the equivalent relations due to the downstream arterial network, as obtained from a one‐dimensional approximate model in the form of Fourier frequency impedance coefficients. An adjustable time‐periodic function correction term in the simulant model requires input from the full 3D model that has to run iteratively until convergence. The advantage of the proposed numerical scheme is that it decouples the upstream detailed simulation from the downstream approximate network model offering exceptional versatility. This approach is demonstrated here in a series of detailed 3D simulations of blood flow, performed using the commercial software FLUENT?, through an asymmetric arterial bifurcation. Two cases are considered: first a healthy system patterned after the left main coronary arterial bifurcation, and second a diseased case where an occlusion has developed in one of the daughter vessels, resulting in strengthening the asymmetry of the bifurcation. Rapid convergence of the iterative process was achieved in both cases. Subtle changes occur in the shear patterns of the daughter vessels, whereas the flow distribution is quite different. In the presence of a stenosis additional regions of low shear develop due to inertial effects. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A computational method is proposed to simulate 3D unsteady cavitating flows in spatial turbopump inducers. It is based on the code FineTurbo, adapted to take into account two‐phase flow phenomena. The initial model is a time‐marching algorithm devoted to compressible flow, associated with a low‐speed preconditioner to treat low Mach number flows. The presented work covers the 3D implementation of a physical model developed in LEGI for several years to simulate 2D unsteady cavitating flows. It is based on a barotropic state law that relates the fluid density to the pressure variations. A modification of the preconditioner is proposed to treat efficiently as well highly compressible two‐phase flow areas as weakly compressible single‐phase flow conditions. The numerical model is applied to time‐accurate simulations of cavitating flow in spatial turbopump inducers. The first geometry is a 2D Venturi type section designed to simulate an inducer blade suction side. Results obtained with this simple test case, including the study of its general cavitating behaviour, numerical tests, and precise comparisons with previous experimental measurements inside the cavity, lead to a satisfactory validation of the model. A complete three‐dimensional rotating inducer geometry is then considered, and its quasi‐static behaviour in cavitating conditions is investigated. Numerical results are compared to experimental measurements and visualizations, and a promising agreement is obtained. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We present an experimental benchmark database for the transitional cavity flow. The database is obtained by planar Particle Image Velocimetry measurements at the median plane of the cavity model, for Reynolds numbers between 6300 and 19,000 based on the cavity height. A detailed uncertainty analysis of the experimental results is performed via the correlation statistics method for PIV uncertainty quantification and linear error propagation. The experimental results are compared to two-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) numerical simulations with different turbulence models. It is shown that, when the standard k-ω turbulence model is employed, the discrepancy between numerical simulations and experimental results exceeds the uncertainty of the latter. Conversely, RANS simulations with the SST k-ω turbulence model agree well with the experimental data in terms of time-averaged flow properties; however, the turbulent kinetic energy results present significant discrepancies at all considered Reynolds numbers. We show that a non-physical velocity may appear in the numerical computation of the flow of an incompressible fluid subjected to external forces. A distorted mesh and the use of a numerical method which does not rigorously ensure the incompressibility condition turn out to be responsible for this phenomenon. We illustrate it with numerical examples and we propose a projection method which improves the results. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
