This paper reports that the nano-sheet carbon films (NSCFs) were fabricated on Si wafer chips with hydrogen--methane gas mixture by means of quartz-tube-type microwave plasma chemical vapour deposition (MWPCVD). In order to further improve the field emission (FE) characteristics, a 5-nm Au film was prepared on the samples by using electron beam evaporation. The FE properties were obviously improved due to depositing Au thin film on NSCFs. The FE current density at a macroscopic electric field, E, of 9~V/μ m was increased from 12.4~mA/cm2 to 27.2~mA/cm2 and the threshold field was decreased from 2.6~V/μ m to 2.0~V/μ m for Au-coated carbon films. A modified F-N model considering statistic effects of FE tip structures in the low E region and a space-charge-limited-current effect in the high E region were applied successfully to explain the FE data of the Au-coated NSCF.  相似文献

In this work, we improved the field-emission properties of a screen-printed single-wall carbon-nanotube (SWCNT) film by applying a strong electrostatic field during the drying process after the printing. By applying the strong field, more tips of SWCNTs could emerge from the screen-printed film and turn somewhat toward the erecting direction because of the repulsive force among the SWCNTs. The field-emission properties of the film were thus improved obviously. The improved field emitters sample has low electron emission turn-on field (Eto = 1.22 V/μm), low electron emission threshold field (Eth = 2.32 V/μm) and high brightness with good uniformity and stability. The lowest operating field of the improved sample is below 1.0 V/μm and its optimum current density exceeds 3.5 mA/cm2.  相似文献

The field emission (FE) characteristics of nano-structrued carbon films (NSCFs) are investigated. The saturation behaviour of the field emission current density found at high electric field E cannot be reasonably explained by the traditional Fowler-Nordheim (F-N) theory. A three-region E model and the curve-fitting method are utilized for discussing the FE characteristics of NSCFs. In the low, high, and middle E regions, the FE mechanism is reasonably explained by a modified F-N model, a corrected space-charge-limited-current (SCLC) model and the joint model of F-N and SCLC mechanism, respectively. Moreover, the measured FE data accord well with the results from our corrected theoretical model.  相似文献

HfNxOy thin films were deposited on Si substrates by direct current sputtering at room temperature. The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). SEM indicates that the film is composed of nanoparticles. AFM indicates that there are no sharp protrusions on the surface of the film. XRD pattern shows that the films are amorphous. The field electron emission properties of the film were also characterized. The turn-on electric field is about 14 V/μm at the current density of 10 μA/cm2, and at the electric field of 24 V/μm, the current density is up to 1 mA/cm2. The field electron emission mechanism of the HfNxOy thin film is also discussed.  相似文献

The properties of carbon nanotube (CNT) field emission cathodes fabricated by a dip coating method with trivalent chromium conversion coated substrates are studied. Two kinds of substrates with different morphologies, one with a rough crackled surface and the other with a smooth surface, were used for making the CNT cathodes, and their I-V curves and emission patterns were evaluated. The results show that, as compared to the smooth substrate surface, the rough surface with self-assembled sub-micro-cracks on the substrate can dramatically enhance the uniformity of the emission pattern and the emission efficiency. The cathode fabricated with the crackled substrate shows good field emission properties such as high brightness, good uniformity, a low turn-on field (0.86 V/μm) and a high current density of 10 mA/cm2 at 2.5 V/μm.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes with uniform density were synthesized on carbon fiber substrate by the floating catalyst method. The morphology and microstructure were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The results of field emission showed that the emission current density of carbon nanotubes/carbon fibers was 10 μA/cm2 and 1 mA/cm2 at the field of 1.25 and 2.25 V/μm, respectively, and the emission current density could be 10 and 81.2 mA/cm2 with the field of 4.5 and 7 V/μm, respectively. Using uniform and sparse density distribution of carbon nanotubes on carbon fiber substrate, the tip predominance of carbon nanotubes can be exerted, and simultaneously the effect of screening between adjacent carbon nanotubes on field emission performance can also be effectively decreased. Therefore, the carbon nanotubes/carbon fibers composite should be a good candidate for a cold cathode material.  相似文献

The present work describes the field emission characteristics of conducting polymer coated multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) field emitters fabricated over flexible graphitized carbon cloth. Nanocomposites involving the combination of MWNTs and conducting polymers polyaniline (PANI) and polypyrrole (PPy) have been prepared by in-situ polymerization method and have been characterized using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Using spin coating method, field emitters based on PANI/MWNTs and PPy/MWNTs over flexible graphitized carbon cloth have been prepared. The field emission characteristics have been studied using an indigenously fabricated set up in a vacuum chamber with a base pressure of 2 × 10−5 Pa and the results are discussed. Our results display that the field emission performance of the emitters depends strongly on the work function of the emitting material. Low turn on emission field of 2.12 V/μm at 10 μA/cm2 and high emission current density of 1 mA/cm2 at 3.04 V/μm have been observed for PANI/MWNTs field emitter.  相似文献

A three-dimensional complex carbon nanoneedle has been fabricated from carbon nanowalls by a direct current plasma chemical vapor deposition system. Sample grown on stainless wire substrate pretreated with the mixing powders of diamond and molybdenum exhibits novel three-dimensional complex nanostructure, the center of which is a carbon nanoneedle, and many carbon nanowalls growing from the needle. The density of unique nanostructure emitters was about 5 × 107/cm2. The I-V characteristic addressed an emission current density of 314 mA/cm2 at the electric field of 2.5 V/μm.  相似文献

Vertically aligned ZnO nanorod arrays with different aspect ratios were synthesized by hybrid wet chemical route. Modulation of the field emission properties (FE) with aspect ratio of ZnO nanorods was examined. With the increase in the aspect ratio, the emission current density increases from 0.02 to 8 μA/cm2 at 7.0 V/μm. Turn-on voltage was seen to decrease from 9.6 to 7 V/μm at a current density of 10 μA/cm2 with the increase in aspect ratio in the ZnO films. The interrelation between the FE characteristics (emission thresholds, current density, surface uniformity, etc.) and microstructure of the ZnO nanostructure obtained from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) was discussed. Quality of the ZnO nanorods was also examined by using Raman spectroscopy and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). It was found that the observed enhancements of FE characteristics could mainly be attributed to the increase in aspect ratio and associated number density of ZnO nanorods.  相似文献

Titanium buffer layer for improved field emission of CNT based cold cathode   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Carbon nanotube (CNT) based cold cathodes are considered to be the most promising material for fabrication of next generation high-performance flat panel displays and vacuum microelectronic devices. Adhesion of CNTs with the substrate and the contact resistance between them are two of the important issues to be addressed in CNT based field emission (FE) devices. Here in this work, a buffer layer of titanium (Ti) is deposited prior to the catalyst deposition and the growth was carried out using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique. There was significant increase in emission current density from 10 mA/cm2 to 30 mA/cm2 at the field of 4 V/μm by the use of titanium buffer layer due to much less dense growth of CNTs of smaller diameter. Field emission results suggest that the adhesion of the CNTs to the substrate has improved. The titanium buffer layer has also lowered the contact resistance between the CNTs and the substrate because of which a stable emission of 30 mA for a longer duration was obtained.  相似文献

In this paper, a new composite coating was fabricated on magnesium alloy by a two-step approach, to improve the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy. First, fluoride conversion layer was synthesized on magnesium alloy surface by immersion treatment in hydrofluoric acid and then, Ti-O film was deposited on the preceding fluoride layer by magnetron sputtering. FE-SEM images revealed a smooth and uniform surface consisting of aggregated nano-particles with average size of 100 nm, and a total coating thickness of ∼1.5 μm, including an outer Ti-O film of ∼250 nm. The surface EDS and XRD data indicated that the composite coating was mainly composed of crystalline magnesium fluoride (MgF2), and non-crystalline Ti-O. Potentiodynamic polarization tests revealed that the composite coated sample have a corrosion potential (Ecorr) of −1.60 V and a corrosion current density (Icorr) of 0.17 μA/cm2, which improved by 100 mV and reduced by two orders of magnitude, compared with the sample only coated by Ti-O. EIS results showed a polarization resistance of 3.98 kΩ cm2 for the Ti-O coated sample and 0.42 kΩ cm2 for the composite coated sample, giving an improvement of about 100 times. After 72 h immersion in SBF, widespread damage and deep corrosion holes were observed on the Ti-O coated sample surface, while the integrity of composite coating remained well after 7 d. In brief, the data suggested that single Ti-O film on degradable magnesium alloys was apt to become failure prematurely in corrosion environment. Ti-O film deposited on fluoride-treated magnesium alloys might potentially meet the requirements for future clinical magnesium alloy stent application.  相似文献

Copper nitride (Cu3N) thin film was deposited on silicon (Si) substrate by reactive magnetron sputtering method. X-ray diffraction measurement showed that the film was composed of Cu3N crystallites with anti-ReO3 structure and exhibited preferential orientation of [1 0 0] direction. The field emission (FE) result showed that Cu3N film had a turn-on electric field of about 3 V/μm at a current density of 1 μA/cm2 and a current density of 700 μA/cm2 was obtained at the electric field of 24 V/μm. The emission mechanism inferred by Fowler-Nordheim (FN) plot is shown as following: thermal electron emission at low field region and tunneling electron emission at high field region.  相似文献

Photosensitive carbon nanotube (CNT) paste was prepared by 3-roll milling of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), UV-sensitive binder solution, and Ag as filler additives. Arrays of MWNT dots with a diode structure were fabricated by a combination of screen printing method and photolithography using these paste, and acetone utilized as the developer. The MWNT dots were well-defined and the organic binder materials in the dots were partially removed. The MWNT film without a heat treatment showed a high current density of 1.35 mA/cm2 at 3.25 V/μm and low turn-on field of 2.2 V/μm at 100 μA/cm2. Acetone can be used as an efficient developer to form patterns and to remove the organic residues in patterns, simultaneously.  相似文献

Field emission property of printed CNTs-mixed ZnO nanoneedles   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
ZnO nanoneedles were synthesized via thermal evaporation method without any catalyst. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy investigations showed that these products presented a nanoneedle structure. To enhance the field emission (FE) properties of screen printed ZnO nanoneedles, a given amount (0.05 g) carbon nanotubes (CNTs) mixed with (0.5 g) ZnO nanoneedles paste via screen printed method and heat-treatment at (600 °C, 500 °C and 450 °C) was presented. The CNTs-mixed ZnO nanoneedles heat-treated at 450 °C had the lowest turn-on field of 3.75 V/μm, highest field emission current of 0.16 mA at 7.5 V/μm and highest β of 830. An efficiency FE enhancement of 450 °C sample was attributed to melioration of conductance between ZnO nanoneedles and ITO surface by CNTs.  相似文献

Field emission studies of a bunch and a single isolated RuO2:SnO2 wire have been performed. A current density of 5.73 × 104 A/cm2 is drawn from the single wire emitter at an applied field of 8.46 × 104 V/μm. Nonlinearity in the Fowler-Nordheim (F-N) plot has been observed and explained on the basis of electron emission from both the conduction and the valence bands of the semiconductor. The current stability recorded at the preset value of 1.5 μA is observed to be good. Overall the high emission current density, good stability and mechanically robust nature of the RuO2:SnO2 wires offer advantages as field emitters for many potential applications.  相似文献

Zinc oxide nanopencil arrays were synthesized on pyramidal Si(1 0 0) substrates via a simple thermal evaporation method. Their field emission properties have been investigated: the turn-on electric field (at the current density of 10 μA/cm2) was about 3.8 V/μm, and the threshold electric field (at the current density of 1 mA/cm2) was 5.8 V/μm. Compared with similar structures grown on flat Si substrates, which were made as references, the pyramidal Si-based ZnO nanopencil arrays appeared to be superior in field emission performance, thus the importance of the non-flat substrates has been accentuated. The pyramidal Si substrates could not only suppress the field screening effect but also improve the field enhancement effect during the field emission process. These findings indicated that using non-flat substrates is an efficient strategy to improve the field emission properties.  相似文献

Si doped and undoped nanocrystalline aluminum nitride thin films were deposited on various substrates by direct current sputtering technique. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the formation of phase pure hexagonal aluminum nitride with a single peak corresponding to (1 0 0) reflection of AlN with lattice constants, a = 0.3114 nm and c = 0.4986 nm. Energy dispersive analysis of X-rays confirmed the presence of Si in the doped AlN films. Atomic force microscopic studies showed that the average particle size of the film prepared at substrate temperature 200 °C was 9.5 nm, but when 5 at.% Si was incorporated the average particle size increased to ∼21 nm. Field emission study indicated that, with increasing Si doping concentration, the emission characteristics have been improved. The turn-on field (Eto) was 15.0 (±0.7) V/μm, 8.0 (±0.4) V/μm and 7.8 (±0.5) V/μm for undoped, 3 at.% and 5 at.% Si doped AlN films respectively and the maximum current density of 0.27 μA/cm2 has been observed for 5 at.% Si doped nanocrystalline AlN film. It was also found that the dielectric properties were highly dependent on Si doping.  相似文献

Ag(TCNQ) and Cu(TCNQ) nanowires were synthesized via vapor-transport reaction method at a low temperature of 100 °C. Field emission properties of the as-obtained nanowires on ITO glass substrates were studied. The turn-on electric fields of Ag(TCNQ) and Cu(TCNQ) nanowires were 9.7 and 7.6 V/μm (with emission current of 10 μA/cm2), respectively. The turn-on electric fields of Ag(TCNQ) and Cu(TCNQ) nanowires decreased to 6 and 2.2 V/μm, and the emission current densities increased by two orders at a field of 8 V/μm with a homogeneous-like metal (e.g. Cu for Cu(TCNQ)) buffer layer to the substrate. The improved field emission is due to the better conduct in the nanowires/substrate interface and higher internal conductance of the nanowires. The patterned field emission cathode was then fabricated by localized growing M-TCNQ nanowires onto mask-deposited metal film buffer layer. The emission luminance was measured to be 810 cd/m2 at a field of 8.5 V/μm.  相似文献

Silicon carbide (SiC), as it is well-known, is inaccessible to usual methods of technological processing. Consequently, it is important to search for alternative technologies of processing SiC, including laser processing, and to study the accompanying physical processes. The work deals with the investigation of pulsed laser radiation influence on the surface of 6H-SiC crystal. The calculated temperature profile of SiC under laser irradiation is shown. Structural changes in surface and near-surface layers of SiC were studied by atomic force microscopy images, photoluminescence, Raman spectra and field emission current-voltage characteristics of initial and irradiated surfaces. It is shown that the cone-shaped nanostructures with typical dimension of 100-200 nm height and 5-10 nm width at the edge are formed on SiC surface under nitrogen laser exposure (λ = 0.337 μm, tp = 7 ns, Ep = 1.5 mJ). The average values of threshold energy density 〈Wthn〉 at which formation of nanostructures starts on the 0 0 0 1 and surfaces of n-type 6H-SiC(N), nitrogen concentration nN ≅ 2 × 1018 cm−3, are determined to be 3.5 J/cm2 and 3.0 J/cm2, respectively. The field emission appeared only after laser irradiation of the surface at threshold voltage of 1000 V at currents from 0.7 μA to 0.7 mA. The main role of the thermogradient effect in the processes of mass transfer in prior to ablation stages of nanostructure formation under UV laser irradiation (LI) was determined. We ascertained that the residual tensile stresses appear on SiC surface as a result of laser microablation. The nanostructures obtained could be applied in the field of sensor and emitting extreme electronic devices.  相似文献

Glassy films of Ga10Ge25S65 with 4 μm thickness were deposited on quartz substrates by electron beam evaporation. Photoexpansion (PE) (photoinduced increase in volume) and photobleaching (PB) (blue shift of the bandgap) effects have been examined. The exposed areas have been analyzed using perfilometer and an expansion of 1.7 μm (ΔV/V ≈ 30%) is observed for composition Ga10Ge25S65 exposed during 180 min and 3 mW/cm2 power density. The optical absorption edge measured for the film Ge25Ga10S65 above and below the bandgap show that the blue shift of the gap by below bandgap photon illumination is considerable higher (ΔEg = 440 meV) than ΔEg induced by above bandgap illumination (ΔEg = 190 meV). The distribution of the refraction index profile showed a negative change of the refraction index in the irradiated samples (Δn = −0.6). The morphology was examined using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The chemical compositions measured using an energy dispersive analyzer (EDX) indicate an increase of the oxygen atoms into the irradiated area. Using a Lloyd's mirror setup for continuous wave holography it was possible to record holographic gratings using the photoinduced effects that occur in them. Diffraction efficiency up to 25% was achieved for the recorded gratings and atomic force microscopy images are presented.  相似文献
