To verify the hypothesis about the common origin of the low-frequency 1/f noise and the quantum f noise recently measured in the Josephson charge qubits, we study the temperature dependence of the 1/f noise and decay of coherent oscillations. The T2 dependence of the 1/f noise is experimentally demonstrated, which supports the hypothesis. We also show that dephasing in the Josephson charge qubits off the electrostatic energy degeneracy point is consistently explained by the same low-frequency 1/f noise that is observed in the transport measurements.  相似文献

Superconducting quantum circuits based on Josephson junctions have made rapid progress in demonstrating quantum behavior and scalability. However, the future prospects ultimately depend upon the intrinsic coherence of Josephson junctions, and whether superconducting qubits can be adequately isolated from their environment. We introduce a new architecture for superconducting quantum circuits employing a three-dimensional resonator that suppresses qubit decoherence while maintaining sufficient coupling to the control signal. With the new architecture, we demonstrate that Josephson junction qubits are highly coherent, with T2 ~ 10 to 20 μs without the use of spin echo, and highly stable, showing no evidence for 1/f critical current noise. These results suggest that the overall quality of Josephson junctions in these qubits will allow error rates of a few 10(-4), approaching the error correction threshold.  相似文献

We study decoherence due to low frequency noise in Josephson qubits. Non-Markovian classical noise due to switching impurities determines inhomogeneous broadening of the signal. The theory is extended to include effects of high-frequency quantum noise, due to impurities or to the electromagnetic environment. The interplay of slow noise with intrinsically non-Gaussian noise sources may explain the rich physics observed in the spectroscopy and in the dynamics of charge based devices.  相似文献

We present a new method to measure 1/f noise in Josephson quantum bits (qubits) that yields low-frequency spectra below 1 Hz. A comparison of the noise taken at positive and negative bias of a phase qubit shows the dominant noise source to be flux noise and not junction critical-current noise, with a magnitude similar to that measured previously in other systems. Theoretical calculations show that the level of flux noise is not compatible with the standard model of noise from two-level state defects in the surface oxides of the films.  相似文献

Decoherence of Josephson qubits can be substantially reduced by tuning their parameters to optimal operation points with only quadratic coupling to fluctuations. We analyze dephasing due to 1/f noise for a two-level system detuned from an optimal point, i.e., the crossover to the linear-coupling regime, both for free induction decay and for spin-echo experiments. Influence of several noise sources is also discussed. The text was submitted by the authors in English.  相似文献

Although Josephson junction qubits show great promise for quantum computing, the origin of dominant decoherence mechanisms remains unknown. Improving the operation of a Josephson junction based phase qubit has revealed microscopic two-level systems or resonators within the tunnel barrier that cause decoherence. We report spectroscopic data that show a level splitting characteristic of coupling between a two-state qubit and a two-level system. Furthermore, we show Rabi oscillations whose "coherence amplitude" is significantly degraded by the presence of these spurious microwave resonators. The discovery of these resonators impacts the future of Josephson qubits as well as existing Josephson technologies.  相似文献

We present the design of a superconducting flux qubit with a large loop inductance. The large loop inductance is desirable for coupling between qubits. The loop is configured into a gradiometer form that could reduce the interference from environmental magnetic noise. A combined Josephson junction, i.e., a DC-SQUID is used to replace the small Josephson junction in the usual 3-JJ (Josephaon junction) flux qubit, leading to a tunable energy gap by using an independent external flux line. We perform numerical calculations to investigate the dependence of the energy gap on qubit parameters such as junction capacitance, critical current, loop inductance, and the ratio of junction energy between small and large junctions in the flux qubit. We suggest a range of values for the parameters.  相似文献

We propose a new and feasible scheme to implement quantum gates in decoherence-free subspaces (DFSs) with Josephson charge qubits situated in a circuit QED architecture. Based on the resonator-assisted interaction, the controllable interqubit couplings occur only by tuning the individual flux biases, by which we obtain the DFS-encoded universal quantum gates. Compared with the non-DFS situation, we numerically consider the robustness of the DFS-encoded scheme that can be insensitive to the collective noises. Thus the protocol may perform the fault-tolerant quantum computing with Josephson charge qubits.  相似文献

We have detected coherent quantum oscillations between Josephson phase qubits and critical-current fluctuators by implementing a new state readout technique that is an order of magnitude faster than previous methods. These results reveal a new aspect of the quantum behavior of Josephson junctions, and they demonstrate the means to measure two-qubit interactions in the time domain. The junction-fluctuator interaction also points to a possible mechanism for decoherence and reduced fidelity in superconducting qubits.  相似文献

We propose and study a model of dephasing due to an environment of bistable fluctuators. We apply our analysis to the decoherence of Josephson qubits, induced by background charges present in the substrate, which are also responsible for the 1/f noise. The discrete nature of the environment leads to a number of new features which are mostly pronounced for slowly moving charges. Far away from the degeneracy this model for the dephasing is solved exactly.  相似文献

We characterize a niobium-based vertical Josephson interferometer which we propose to include in a superconducting loop for applications to quantum computation using flux qubits. The most interesting feature of this device is that the Josephson current is precisely modulated by a small transversal magnetic field parallel to superconducting loop plane from a maximum to zero, with fine control and precision. This device can be used to independently control the off-diagonal Hamiltonian terms of flux qubits and/or to control the flux transfer function of a superconducting transformer for inter-qubits coupling.  相似文献

We analyze a controllable generation of maximally entangled mixed states of a circuit containing two-coupled superconducting charge qubits. Each qubit is based on a Cooper pair box connected to a reservoir electrode through a Josephson junction. Illustrative variational calculations were performed to demonstrate the effect on the two-qubits entanglement. At sufficiently deviation between the Josephson energies of the qubits and/or strong coupling regime, maximally entangled mixed states at certain instances of time is synthesized. We show that entanglement has an interesting subsequent time evolution, including the sudden death effect. This enables us to completely characterize the phenomenon of entanglement sharing in the coupling of two superconducting charge qubits, a system of both theoretical and experimental interest.  相似文献

We consider a model that contains two coupled superconducting charge qubits by sharing a large Josephson junction. We examine the dynamical properties of the linear entropy of two qubits and the probability of both qubits being in an excited state. The results show that the initial mean photon number, the initial phase of the field and the relative phase of the two qubits' levels play an important role in the evolution of the linear entropy of the two qubits and the probability.  相似文献

Various physical systems were proposed for quantum information processing. Among those nanoscale devices appear most promising for integration in electronic circuits and large-scale applications. We discuss Josephson junction circuits in two regimes where they can be used for quantum computing. These systems combine intrinsic coherence of the superconducting state with control possibilities of single-charge circuits. In the regime where the typical charging energy dominates over the Josephson coupling, the low-temperature dynamics is limited to two states differing by a Cooper-pair charge on a superconducting island. In the opposite regime of prevailing Josephson energy, the phase (or flux) degree of freedom can be used to store and process quantum information. Under suitable conditions the system reduces to two states with different flux configurations. Several qubits can be joined together into a register. The quantum state of a qubit register can be manipulated by voltage and magnetic field pulses. The qubits are inevitably coupled to the environment. However, estimates of the phase coherence time show that many elementary quantum logic operations can be performed before the phase coherence is lost. In addition to manipulations, the final state of the qubits has to be read out. This quantum measurement process can be accomplished using a single-electron transistor for charge Josephson qubits, and a d.c.-SQUID for flux qubits. Recent successful experiments with superconducting qubits demonstrate for the first time quantum coherence in macroscopic systems.  相似文献

Quantum optimal control theory allows us to design accurate quantum gates. We employ it to design high-fidelity two-bit gates for Josephson charge qubits in the presence of both leakage and noise. Our protocol considerably increases the fidelity of the gate and, more important, it is quite robust in the disruptive presence of 1/f noise. The improvement in the gate performances discussed in this work (errors approximately 10(-3)-10(-4) in realistic cases) allows us to cross the fault tolerance threshold.  相似文献

The realization of coupled qubit setups is a fundamental step towards implementation of universal quantum computing architectures. Solid state nano- devices, despite being very promising from the point of view of scalability and integration, strongly suffer from various noise sources. Particular detrimental role is played by low-frequency noise components. Here we identify stability conditions against low-frequency charge noise of two Josephson qubits in a fixed coupling scheme implementation. The effects of adiabatic noise in an i-SWAP protocol is discussed. Reduced sensitivity to charge flutuations with respect to the single qubit setup is predicted.  相似文献

We have developed and tested a classical superconducting logic interface to a qubit prototype based on two macroscopically distinct quantum states of a vortex in a long Josephson junction. The initial state preparation as well as the readout of a qubit is demonstrated by using a relatively simple Rapid Single Flux Quantum (RSFQ) circuit. RSFQ logic appears as a very feasible choice for constructing an interface between superconducting qubits and room-temperature electronics.Received: 16 January 2004, Published online: 20 April 2004PACS: 74.40. + k Fluctuations (noise, chaos, nonequilibrium superconductivity, localization, etc.) - 74.50. + r Tunneling phenomena; point contacts, weak links, Josephson effects - 74.78.-w Superconducting films and low-dimensional structures  相似文献

We study an LC circuit implemented using a current-biased Josephson junction (CBJJ) as a tunable coupler for superconducting qubits. By modulating the bias current, the junction can be tuned in and out of resonance and entangled with the qubits coupled to it. One can thus implement two-qubit operations by mediating entanglement. We consider the examples of CBJJ and charge-phase qubits. A simple recoupling scheme leads to a generalization to arbitrary qubit designs.  相似文献

We present the first experimental results on a device with more than two superconducting qubits. The circuit consists of four three-junction flux qubits, with simultaneous ferro- and antiferromagnetic coupling implemented using shared Josephson junctions. Its response, which is dominated by the ground state, is characterized using low-frequency impedance measurement with a superconducting tank circuit coupled to the qubits. The results are found to be in excellent agreement with the quantum-mechanical predictions.  相似文献
